My two cents as a regular consumer and someone with no claim to being an audiophile… I am a long time AirPods Pro user, first with the AirPods Pro 2 and now for several years with the AirPods Pro 2. I was very much looking forward to the release of the AirPods Pro 3. Unfortunately, however, I am disappointed with its sound quality. Of course, how we perceive sound and our preferences in music, our individual and our opinions subjective. However, in my opinion, Apple did nobody any favors, changing the sound signature of the AirPods Pro 3.  The increased bass and to a lesser degree, the peak in the treble have produced for me and almost cartoonish sound. Although I had hoped for a little more bass and sub base rumble than the AirPods Pro 2, neither the quantity nor quality of the bass in the new model strikes a positive chord with me. So, seeking more bass than APP2 but keeping the balance of APP2, I I bought the Technics AZ 100. For sound quality it blows both the APP2 and APP3 out of the water. Out of the box, the AZ100 sound pretty good, but with minimal tweaking in the EQ, they sound incredible. Directly comparing them to the new AirPods, the key difference. Is that the bass on the AZ100 is more detailed and less bloated.  On the AirPods, the bass is loud but fails to present any sense of nuance. For lack of a better term, it is thumpy. All drums sound the same. Piano tends to be overly loud. Low notes get smeared together. By contrast, the AZ100 bass is very present. You can hear and feel it. However, it is sharp and detailed. Vocals on the AZ100 are clear and retain a sense of worth and naturalness. Basically, the new AirPods seem to have substituted a thick bass for crispness and detail in bass. The bass seems somehow artificial and overstated. Not so with the AZ100.  Overall, the AZ100 is just more natural sounding and detailed then the new AirPods. If anything, it is like the AirPods Pro 2 but with appropriate bass and more and more clarity. Having said all this, I am seriously torn as to which set of buds to keep. The AirPods Pro 3 ANC is incredible and probably unsurpassed by anything except the new Bose and even then perhaps it’s equal. The AZ100 ANC is excellent, like maybe a 90 out of 100, but Apple is now as close to 100 as one can probably get with today’s technology. Also, being fully enmeshed in the apple ecosystem, the AirPods are seamlessly integrated. Little things like checking the battery level are no-brainers when compared to the AZ100.  As for comfort and fit, I don’t love either of them and wish that Apple had simply kept the fit and tips of the AirPods Pro 2 which for me we’re always perfect and felt like I had nothing in my ears. I hope this helps anyone who might chance to read this.

Great review! I recently got and tested both. Although I am a biased B&W fan due to their loudspeakers and prefer the brightness of their overall sound, I wanted them to win. I take business calls and would need to use the earbuds from time to time. Calls in a noisy place with the MyVoice AI, and transparency mode unfortunately beat out the sound quality as the deal breaker. I'll sadly return the Pi8s and happily roll with the AZ100s.

Of the ones listed, the Denon Perl Pro is the best... I own the AZ-100's and the Perl Pro... The AZ-100 is better call quality though... That being said... If your budget is $500, Devialet Gemini 2's... I use my Gem2's more than any other of my buds. I could also suggest Noble Audio Fokus Rex5's, $449... They sound amazing, but not the best for rock/metal music.

For sound quality, music streaming, and ANC, the Status Between 3ANC smokes the AZ100... BUT, in terms of functionality, call quality, Customizability, the AZ100 is better... Status is boasting that their new Status Pro X buds are a huge improvement of the 3ANC'S, I got my pre-order in, so we shall see about that.

Yes.. Eq, customizing the touch controls. The AZ100 allows you to adjust ANC level and volumn of the transparency mode as well... The AI enhancements for removing background noise while making calls works REALLY well. So, if all you need is sound quality, 3ANC all the way... If you are ok with sacrificing some sound quality for functionality, AZ100 the better choice... That being said... Status will be shipping their new Pro X buds within the next couple weeks... You may want to wait and see what people have to say about them... I have them on pre-order.

They are good but have been relegated to my “work” earbuds since all the others suck on phone calls. The Technics are small, lightweight, and easy to quickly connect for a conference call and don’t sound muffled like the Gemini II’s. For music, anything else is better. The Technics have a weird muddy flub to the bass I can’t put my finger on.

The bass was already loose to begin with on the AZ80s. The new AZ100s sound very blubbery, not tight and controlled, and the low mids are muddled. It’s like they amplified the crappiness like hearing yourself talk underwater. Hope that makes sense for you. And if not, oh well.

If you want something well balanced, probably stick to 3rd gen airpods. Technics az100 excel in sound quality but ANC is not comparable to the best. Bose quietcomfort ultra excel in ANC but sound quality isn't the best. B&W pi8, Noble Fokus Rex 5 is on the top for sound quality but the call quality is bad.

Technics AZ100, bought one, very happy. I spent a lot of time researching. I particularly prefer ANC from Headphones ( I have a Sony WH1000XM6 for that) but the ANC of the AZ100 does the job. Sound is superb and I really like how you can customize controls and EQ with their app. I also really like the tech built-in for call clarity in noisy environments, it even removes the background noise of people calling you. I really appreciate it. You won't regret it.

I've tested the Nothing ear and I wasn't this impressed with the sound like you were. I have the AZ100s and honestly, it is the best sounding earbuds I've ever had. I prefer to listen to music on the Technics over my Sony WH1000XM6 headphones, especially pumping LDAC to max Bitrate listening to HiFi sound on Qobuz. I change the EQ on Technics app depending on the type of music and I really enjoy it, and I love the voice clarity for calls on noisy environments, top notch.

I love my AZ100s, but I got them mostly because what I wanted the earbuds to be best was SOUND + MIC (Call clarity in noisy environments) , for me ANC is also important but I have a Sony XM6 for that. For the AZ100 ANC is okay-ish, but in my opinion the best in the market for calls and stay nice in the ears for running, but con is the IPX4 only , if you expect to run in the rain, it's not the earbud for you.

It doesn't sound terrible, it can sound "metallic" if you are in a place with INSANE background noise. I was amazed that managed to isolate only the speakers voice, even if it didn't sound super natural, you could understand everything the person was saying without an issue. In my own experience, everyone always heard with me great clarity, especially when I am cycling and having calls. They can't hear the noise, cars around, etc, only my voice, so I am pretty happy with it. But what I really love about these earbuds is the sound. This fucker put me in the audiophile game, something that Boses or Sonys didn't manage to do.

I am not an audiophile in anyway, I don’t have the knowledge to really compare every model of earbuds but what I do know is that the user experience was great since the unpacking. The app doesn’t have a beautiful UI but it sure has a lot of functionnalities. It explains every options really well and helps you get the best eartips and the best experience depending on your usage. The sound really amazed me but it was the first time that I had ever tried buds in this price category. I think that the sound really get to me, I had goosebumps quite a few time while using them with music from various style. I had them because they appeared to be the most « versatile » ones and they surely are. I’ve read here that the ANC is nothing more than correct but the fact of being able to manage it makes it quite powerfull compared to my buds 2 pro. I feel like it was the right choice even if the comments seem to say that there are better buds for 300. What I can say is that I am very satisfied with mine and I did not have this feeling of rediscovering music ever since I got the HD598 from Senheiser in 2015. Sorry if my sentences are unclear. Recap: for me they are the bomb

My pro 1, after 2 years of teams calls and music daily use, had seriously lost much of the battery life (can't stand 2 hours teams call... Not that my brain can do much better but... So far I have to) So I decided to do the upgrade and go for Technics AZ100, sound was disappointing and voice isolation horrible and robotic, People started joking me if I was simulating my voice with a neural model. So I returned and went for pro 2. Sound is not that bad as they say, it's just "different" after some week I can say that it's a more "educated" sound, you need to give some time to your ears to digest it, but in the end I can say that PBP 2 sounds a little better than PBP 1. Sound is richer and more detailed and bass is more gentle and again detailed, especially in vynil ripped music, I can better feel the punchy sounds without all that bass that was pumped out the 1s. If you want more bass you can play with the equalizer and get the same sound of the 1s

I think the Earfun Air 4 Pro are the most Budget Option Here. I have tried a bunch of the "Higher end" earbuds, Like Denon Pearl Pro, AZ80, AZ100 etc.. And honestly, Wireless earbuds do not get that close to good higher end IEMs. They plateau early at a very decent level, and the good value options are 90% of the higher end options. Many people (including myself Sometimes) really WANT their more expensive buds to be that much better, so they really convince themselves the money is worth it That, of course, is my personal opinion, but it's based in a bunch of experience so yeah.

A vote for Pi8. I bought the Pi8 and was incredibly happy with its performance but kept reading that AZ100 and Gemini II had better bass response. This left me unsatisfied with my purchase so I ordered AZ100 and Gemini II while within my return window for Pi8. After in numerous AB tests between the three I have to say I am incredibly happy with the Pi8. The quality is on par with the other two, including in the bass response. When using the case as transmitter the quality surpasses the other two and any other. pi8 with the case transmitting sound, wipes the floor with the other two. The soundstage is insane. It’s like they are performing in front of you. Clarity and detail is crystal. Compared to the Pi8 the AZ100 sound a bit muffled and not the most clear in highs and mids. The low end is a bit muddy too. Similarly for Gemini II which are better in highs and mids but they are all over the place in lows. Still I wouldn’t recommend Pi8 or any other. What I realised is that one may fit for your ear better than the other. The Az100 is fat around the cushion and doesn’t fit into the ear canal. Pi8 is slim and slides right into my ear. It’s lightweight and hugs it snugly. No leaks. This was simply not the case with Az100 or Gemini. I strongly suggest buying atleast two, or even three and test it out yourself.

For me personally I felt the sound is better and above the other two brands. I like the clarity and the bass is very refined. It’s going to last me four to five years hopefully. To pay 100 extra for better sound for half a decade seems a good deal for me. The only thing AZ100 has going for it is the app. Its app is much better than B&w. But again, narrow it down to two and get both. Then AB it and return the one that doesn’t work for you.

Get Technics Reference class earbuds (AZ-100) and never look back. You’ll thank me later!

I'm currently listening to 2024, they're phenomenal, I must say. The sound is very sharp, but the AZ100 gives me a fuller and more rounded sound.

As an owner of both Technics AZ80 and AZ100, the AZ100 took everything that was wrong with the AZ80 and made it sound like listening under water.

The bass was already loose to begin with on the AZ80s. The new AZ100s sound very blubbery, not tight and controlled, and the low mids are muddled. It’s like they amplified the crappiness like hearing yourself talk underwater. Hope that makes sense for you. And if not, oh well.

On pure SQ alone: Noble Prestige > Devialet Gemini 2 > Master & Dynamic MW09 > Noble Fokus Rex5 > Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 > Denon Perl Pro > Technics AZ100 > Sennheiser MTW4
