r/AskUK →I got rid of my Dyson this year and bought a Henry. The suction is good, the build is good and I'm only on my second bag (2 adults, 2 children, 1 cat, 3 bed house, usually hoover a couple of times a week. I think we've had it since February. The only thing was that it smelt a bit musty, presumably because I'm collecting dust and hair and keeping it in a cupboard rather than emptying every time like I did with the Dyson. I've chucked a magic tree in on top of the bag and that seems to have resolved that. I don't think the design is as good as a Dyson; all the Dyson bits click together which is easy. BUT the cost difference isn't worth it. Henry was good value at less than half the price of the Dyson, British made and performs well with a smile on his face.

Most of the absolute self masturbatory nonsense you see about him is that he is made in the UK, good if you live in the UK, and can and does suck up anything from dust to pet hair to brick mess to bags of flour to ping pong balls. If you AREN'T in the UK, and don't regularly need to hoover up bits of bricks, you don't benefit from a cheap, transport costs free local business made solution. And you suffer for any carpet you may have in him not having a spinny head brush bit. You then have to deal with a cord, winding it up, finding a plug socket/outlet, daft wheels that don't roll over bumps, top heavy design so it falls over all the time, awkward to carry even in his transport/storage state. For the same money (in non UK markets), you can have the Dyson that you just pick up, suck up the muck and pop back in it's storage area on charge.

My long haired cat moults like crazy and our Shark upright will pick up everything out of the carpet, and the sofas and chairs with the attachments. Also helps when the humans moult; two people with thyroid issues constantly shedding long hair live here too. My cat-owning friends have bought Shark hoovers. Henry was alright but I hate his silly face and he constantly tipped over when I used it. The combo of the two just infuriated me!

I’ve got the 15 with the laser, and agree it’s really there for convenience I can quickly grab it whilst I’m waiting for the coffee machine to heat up or the kettle to boil and give the living room / lounge a quick once over, etc It takes a bit of maintaining, so I’ve got a couple of filters so I can swap out when one needs washing, and you’ve gotta take it “apart” occasionally and clean out the canister and vents inside with a brush, but it works and has enough suction to do a decent job. I’ve got a good old Henry for the deep cleans, has way more suction but is much more heavy to carry around and means pulling out the cable and plugging it in

However I admit that they are cumbersome and they do deliberately throw themselves over in a tantrum, grab the corners of walls to avoid their workload and talk shit about you behind your back all while having a very smug look on their stupid red faces. That being said I would also reccomend miele. Also very good quality but much less personality.

r/AskUK • Which hoover would you choose and why? ->I built an accessory for my Henry using a cyclone and a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. You buy an extra pipe (nose) for Henry and run the cyclone in the middle. I've hoovered up all sorts, like the crap between 150 year old floorboards, to a room full of plaster that I've chopped off the walls with an SDS. The cyclone and the bucket do a really good job of catching about 99 percent of the big stuff. Gravity and centrifuge. (A bit like the concept of how Dyson came about, but on a 5 gallon scale). I also use it for dust extraction when woodworking. You wouldn't want to carry it from room to room to clean up after the pets. But if you are staying broadly in one spot it's an efficient way to collect a lot of stuff without using hundreds of bags. And it helps save Henry's lungs too.

The Henry sucks up all the floof our golden retriever sheds without problem, and the Sebo does a good enough job on the carpet upstairs (where the dog is not supposed to go..)

Been going for years without needlessly changing the design so you aren’t stuck with obsolete parts. Easily serviceable with inexpensive spare parts, all of which are readily available directly from Numatic and a decent range of attachments available too. Bought a Dyson cordless when I first moved in but it just felt a bit work shy and complained a lot. Replaced with a Henry and it’s a trooper. Does everything well with no fuss. I’ve used it in the garage. I’ve attached it to the mitre saw. It’ll ingest sawdust and nails like it’s nothing. Got one at the shop too, I’m sure it’s been there for at least 15 years and it’s used at least three times a week. Hasn’t seen a bag in years. What a fucking *brilliant* machine.

(it's so bulky and also the hose makes noises in every move also the head is impossible to pull forward/backwards because you can't remove the hairs that tangle to the wheel) Oh and i think henry is the only vacuum i would buy as a bagged vacuum.

You could go for the direct animal model. George is a wet and dry hoover, and we have had one, but these days we have Henry and a Bessel carpet cleaner specifically for washing the carpets. Worth stating that most hoovers will fail to completely pull hairs up and so it’s useful to also have a rubber brush, or a window squidgee. You will be supposed at how much hair those things pull up

I think the Henry I used at my previous job is still working as well, absolute cockeoaches, I admit they are large and clumsy and not ideal for smaller homes though

To counter the Henry, Screwfix ow brand titan wet and dry vacuums are amazing! so cheap, but so much suction.
