I do mostly web development and I do have LG 34gn850 which has great colors and great performance for its money. But, sometimes I wish my monitor to has bigger vertical resolution, because it feels a bit narrow for working, other times I wish to have wider horizontal resolution like 5120x1440p or even more. Maybe somewhere in the middle will be my sweet spot. If I do have the money I'd go for as big as posible screen with high refresh rate and higher resolution. Last but not least choose the right curvature of the screen that will suits you best for your needs and preferences.

For immersion in adventure games or racing get the 39. If PPI matters get the 34. What made me return the 39 and get the 34 was the fringing and how everything looks stretched. In competitive games you will noticed a bunch of artifacts, jagged edges, and text fringing. Dota 2 for example, after a match I was so exhausted that I couldn't even look at the screen anymore. Same for Age of Empires.

I went with a 34 1440p over the 32 4k. I had this exact dilemma and got the 32 4k first 240hz. My graphic card was 4090 and it looked great but fps was under 100 all the time. Switched to the 1440p 34 240hz and absolute love the switch. I get like 160hz+ and it’s so smooth and beautiful when playing cod and Diablo

I also now have the LG 34GN850, which has 1900R and its amazing! Maybe not ideal for productivity, since it has no builtin KVM, PBP or PIP, but i dont really need that, so theres that. But the curve is ideal for me, since it also doesnt take up that much space on the desk. Also, no more ghosting!

I just bought the LG OLED 5K2K 45” ultrawide. I think there’s a 34” version? My last LG 34” 1440p ultrawide was great too. My last 4 monitors have been LG and they’ve been great.

What about the viewing angles? I had an S3422DWG from Dell as well and color and gamma shifts were obvious from almost any angle. Additionally, the panel had some serious VRR flicker. Black Smearing was also noticable in some games, e.g. Neon Abyss. Had to return it and got the LG 34GN850 instead because it had none of these issues apart from poor contrast. I am still looking to find an upgrade till this day...

Have this exact request and it's infuriating. All recommendations are just discontinued stuff that's no longer available as of about mid this year. The few ultrawide IPSes that remain all have either insufficient refresh rates/response times and/or ghosting issues. Hell I've seen recommendations on here for monitors like the LG 34GN850-B or Gigabyte M34WQ within the last 30 days, despite the fact that none of them are available anymore.

If I recall correctly, the original 49" Neo G9 has full array local dimming, and is VA w/ 1ms response times. Movie watching is still more enjoyable on a 21:9, in my opinion/ experience, as it will soak up all the screen real estate. If you were willing to compromise for OLED, the upcoming 21:9 LG 45" 5k2k display sounds amazing if movies are a big second factor after productivity. For context, I have owned an IPS LG 34" UW, and currently use an OG G9. I'm sure others with more experience will chime in, thought I'd share my 2¢ anyways :3

I got it this morning and so far I like this the most. The only downside is the IPS black which of course is even brighter than the VA Panel but it's really only noticable on completely black scenes. The colors are great, response time is awesome and somehow the real g-sync feels way smoother than FreeSync on the other displays. Text is perfectly fine to read and MUCH clearer than the OLED Display. The one display which arrived DOA had less backlight bleeding than the one I am using currently but again thats only visible in black scenes. I would not recommend this display if you are watching a lot of movies but all in all its the best of the three I tested for gaming combined with office use. I would have kept the VA if it hadn´t had the VRR flicker but the IPS is superior in this regard so I gotta go with the LG IPS

I use the LG ultragear 34". I'm not sure if it's the exact same model that you say is not in stock. It's the best monitor Ive I've had though, so I'd say it's worth doing some digging. I tried some VA panels, and they had the dreaded VRR/AdaptiveSync flicker issue that so many get. I've heard OLEDs get them too. I'd never go back to gaming without VRR, especially at high refresh rates. The one I returned before getting the LG even flickered on the desktop sometimes. IPS hardly ever has that issue.

My official job title is Business Analyst, but my function is essentially a form of grant writing. 90% to include reading and editing documents. My laptop and software were all provided by my employer, as well as two functional, but old, monitors. I bought the LG 34” curved monitor (on sale for $160) and it’s been a game changer for me. I don’t lose track of my cursor, c & p is easier, and I can have multiple docs up at the same time without having to minimize any of them. I’ve also found I have less head/eye aches. And my desk just feels less cluttered with one monitor as opposed to two. Also bought a basic, but wireless, mouse and keyboard.

Few years ago I got LG UltraGear 34GN850-B ultrawide. For gaming I can't imagine now playing on a regular monitor. Ultrawide is still improvement over regular monitor for work but here 2 monitors would still be better. Btw for all the years of playing on ultrawide there was only 1 indie game where I was forced to play with black bars and 16:9 resolution - Zero Sievert. Games are working fine. If a game doesn't support ultrawide there is a program - Flawless Widescreen that you have to turn on before starting the game. In other case you need HxD to edit exe file and replace 1 value, and that's it. I've been playing games like The Witcher from 2007 or Gothic from 2001 without issues in ultrawide resolutions.

I own the UW1440p and it's an excellent monitor for gaming. I also play FPS shooters and have essentially the same computer (5070Ti instead of 9070XT), and it's a perfect monitor for that. Having said that, since you can find both for similar prices, I'd probably go with the 5k2k. You guys can always pop in a 5090 or whatever is king down the road, and AM5 will be supported for years.

I have neither of those monitors. I use a old LG 3440x1440 34". That only has 108ppi resolution while the mentioned 5k2k displays have 140ppi. However, MacOS has scaling problems with everything that is not "retina" resolution, so everything below ~200ppi. I find the text to be a bit blurrier on non-Apple displays compared to Windows. But you get used to it. Also the built-in window management is complicated, sluggish and not really suitable for ultrawide monitors, you'll want additional software like Better Touch Tool or Rectangle.

I've been using a LG 34GN850-B that I picked up last Black Friday for something like $280 or so if I'm remembering correctly. Not sure what they're going for now or if stock even exists. That said, for the price, it's a hell of a monitor. UWQHD, 144Hz (160Hz OCed). It's years old tech at this point and not perfect, of course, but at the price I was able to pick it up I think it's a steal for what it offers.

I was in the same boat and ordered both. Ive got the asus VG34VQL3A VA right in front of me playing RDR2 and a Dell Alienware AW3423DWF OLED watching Stream. My 34GN850P-B IPS will arive tomorrow. Already got one but it was DOA. I can tell you 2 things about the OLED and VA: 1. The VA has terrible VRR Flicker and I had to disable it because it gave me headaches. Bright areas always flicker regardless of FPS. It flickers with 40 and with 140. Common problem with this Panel but everything else is superb for VA. You have to sit straight in front of it for having its color shine bright. I like this one a lot but the VRR sucks ass. 2. The OLED has terrible fringing on text. Its barely noticable on white text with bright background but white text on black background is a pain to read. VRR flicker is not that bad and limited to grey-ish areas when running below 57fps. Will not keep it since the text fringing is driving me nuts. Feel free to AMA

Short of spending substantially more and going OLED I'm not sure I could have hoped to do too much better. Yeah, black levels are raised, obviously, it's an IPS panel. But it's got brightness to spare (I'm running 30% I think?), which is plenty useful when one's setup has to deal with elevated levels of ambient light. No doubt, when I upgrade next I'll almost certainly move to an OLED panel, or some relative equivalent. I can certainly appreciate advantages on offer as someone with a much-loved OLED-centric 4K UHD home media setup. But damn, I simply couldn't find another option at the price that could beat it when all the variables (size/resolution/refresh/panel tech/etc.) were factored. That's not to say that alternative doesn't exist, simply that the time I allotted to research on this one component didn't reveal it at the time. ??

From my one 14inch MacBook pro I connected to my monitor using their thunderbolt type c connection, giving power to the laptop and display to the monitor. I then connected the HDMI from monitor to laptop. My monitor has the ability to display both inputs at once in a split mode and the MacBook thinks of it as two displays. Pretty neat

Hey i went through the same pain 6 months ago. I was looking for a 34” ultrawide I would mostly use for programming that would also be really good for occasional gaming. I knew it would be best to get an ips because I didn’t want to spend 700-1000€ euro on an oled that pretty much would have an expiration date because of burn in and I didn’t want to have a monitor I would have to baby all the time. Like thinking about putting it to sleep the moment I don’t use it, hide the status/task bar… The only good ips that fit the description was the lg 34gn850. I knew it would be good because I had pretty much the same monitor but in 27”. I went with that and I’m very happy. That’s what I would recommend if you can find it.

I've been using the aw3423dwf since January. I really use it a lot, and there has been zero burn-in. I do the refresh every 4 hours like it asks though, and only use it for gaming and watching 21:9 movies. I do mostly play Cyberpunk though and with the HUD usually off, so that certainly helps with burn-in. Of the other games I've spent a lot of time playing (God of War and Ragnarok) no noticeable issues. I also played a lot of Spider-Man 2, but the HUD isn't stationary so really no fear there. I originally thought I'd use it as a replacement for my LG 34gn850p-b, but the fringing is real. I've actually gotten used to it, so I can work on the OLED if I want, but the IPS is just so much better for coding, reading documents and browsing the web. I ended up keeping it for that kind of stuff. As for the quality on the OLED, jesus ! The detail in the darks and near-blacks is insane, and comparing a game on my OLED to one on my IPS, it's like looking at a bas-relief. Or now that I'm used to it, trying the IPS out of curiosity looks like a watercolor painting on toilet paper ??
