Urbn, Graco GoMax, and Joie Mint latch are all baseless latch infant seats. All of the nuna seats can be installed baseless if you use a seatbelt btw. They’re all safe. People feel like they’re not safe because they’re new or because they don’t know how car seats work, but ask any CPST or look online for video demos - they can explain how it’s just as safe as other car seats on the market. People have this idea that the base that it clicks into, is safer, but when you have the baseless latch connection…it’s doing the same thing as the base is (connecting via latch lol) ?? Idk the weight limits for the the Graco and Joie car seats but the nuna urbn, nuna pipa RX, and Aire RX all have the same weight and height limits now. They’re 4-30lbs and 16-30 inches. The older models varied more, but now they’re the same across the 3.

I’m in NYC and take more ride shares than anything else, so a baseless car seat was my first priority. I was almost sold on a Nuna travel system with the Pipa Urbn car seat with the latch feature. Then I discovered the Joie brand, which has the Mint Latch car seat with identical features and honestly looks like a Nuna dupe. Also the Joie Ginger pramette stroller is comparable to the Nuna stroller I was considering but I was sold on the fact that the seat flexes into a bassinet, so I wouldn’t have to purchase a separate attachment. And altogether it was still a fraction of the Nuna price tag! I’m due very soon and super excited to take it for a spin!

We have the Joie (Nuna’s sister company) mint latch car seat which is baseless, and it’s sooo easy. This is my first baby, so never had a car seat with a base, but I don’t see how it could get any easier. It takes maybe 3 seconds tops and we never have any issue with it. We don’t take ubers or taxis either, but love it anyway!

I’d look into the Mint Latch car seat if you don’t want to buy bases. I get it, they’re so expensive. There’s a stroller it clicks right into. I looked at both at Target, and I was impressed for the price! I’m a pretty die hard bugaboo fan, but if I needed convenience and baseless install I’d go this route https://joiebaby.com/us/mint-latch-integrated-rigid-latch?srsltid=AfmBOoq9ZJVrJJBSJMFC4VW8Ier2aBqN38dDJOLOF_SUyX2-Y6rgBeKH#color=683

We have a Joie Mint Latch car seat and the Nutmeg stroller. We love them! Super High Quality! Plus you can get them on a huge discount right now at Target with the 20% off car seat deal. You don't even need to trade in a carseat! I watched a lot of reviews and there pretty similar and it seems like its about 85-90% of what Nuna offers in the Joie comparables for the price!

I want to say the first week or two I did feel like my baby slouched in there 8lb baby removed the pillow at the appropriate time I did take the strap covers off till my baby was bigger tho because the fit was better without them but beyond that just make sure you adjust them once they’re in the seat like pull them up if needed. I want to say once we took out the insert and raised the strap level it was better but she was a bigger baby by that point. Also make sure you have the angle correct I messed that up and didn’t realize it was wrong till 4 months in and that’s why my baby’s head would go forward when she fell asleep. I would have saved myself the paranoia had I realized it wasn’t level early on.

I had a Nuna (Pipa Lite RX) with my first and the Joie Mint this time and prefer the Mint! My baby always kicked off the sky drape on the Nuna and the Joie Mint honestly feels like similar quality to me (I have the maple that comes with the nutmeg). Strollers and convertible car seats are worth spending extra money on in my opinion, infant seats are outgrown too quickly to justify it to me. They all go through the same safety testing.

The LX stroller has a few more features but if you wanna save a little bit more you could get the Regular Ginger. They have a few other stroller models that are also worth looking at that are all a little different.

I know I sound like a broken record with the other comments but the joie car seat isn't the best. If possible, see if you can get an infant carrier (a good budget one is the maxicosi cabriofix or a spin option is the avionaut pixel pro or cosmo) and then get a next stage seat when they're older. Also, car seats go by height/weight, not age. Joie tends to be outgrown quite early (too early for a child to then forward face safely) and they are really bulky seats. I'd definitely go for a separate infant carrier. Pram wise. I regretted my travel bundle - Egg3. If I had my time again, I'd buy a cheaper pram and stroller and buy a better car seat. We just bought the Lejoux+ stroller for holidays and it's great. I see us using that now instead of the Egg stroller. So don't be like me lol

Almost too many options! I was overwhelmed by the selection especially while pregnant. I let my wife research it. I told her my main concern was overall weight during postpartum. We ended up going with the Joie brand. Target mainly carries their line. We went with their combo one that has the stroller too; Ginger & Mint Latch Travel system. We've been using the whole set for two months and very happy with the products. One cool feature is the car seat is baseless. Instead it has these arms that rotate out and lock into the car's seat anchors. Without a need for a base, it makes it super easy to go between cars. One of my fav features! Hope you're able to select one without going ?? ??

NICU based car seat tech here- - Evenflo Litemax, especially the models with the one piece body insert like [this one](https://www.evenflo.com/products/pivot-modular-car-seats-and-stroller-travel-systems) (not sure they sell this specific car seat on its own anymore, I can only find the exact one I prefer in travel system form). The insert design promotes excellent positioning without pushing babies’ heads forward. The hip harness and crotch buckle adjust to be absolutely tiny (this seat starts at 3lbs). Between the harness adjustments and the insert, the positioning for small babies is truly excellent. - Joie Mint Latch- this baseless car seat has rigid latch anchors that pop right out on the seat itself, which 1. Is a huge safety feature and 2. Makes this seat just as convenient as seats with bases - it’s just as fast to get in and out of the car as it is to pop my other car seat in and out of the base. The harness doesn’t adjust as small as the Litemax (almost nothing does) but the body insert is supportive and the harness fit for 5lbs is good. I see this seat often and sometimes I do have to remove the head insert because it can push some babies’ heads forward but overall quite pleased with it (I’ve been using it for my youngest for about a year now!) - Chicco Keyfit35/Keyfit Max (same product with updated limits and names to comply with new federal regulations about infant car seat weight limits). Fits small babies wonderfully, is very user friendly, minimal adjustments needed over the life of the seat (remove the body insert at 11lbs and click the headrest higher as baby grows but that’s it). There is a built in headrest and a removable cushioned head insert that sits on top of that- I usually remove the extra insert to avoid heads being pushed forward in a chin to chest position. - Graco- avoid the Snugride Lite models, they don’t fit *well* until 7-9lbs depending on baby’s build. This can be worked around by using a crotch roll but that’s a hassle, just avoid it. If you want a Graco seat, opt for one with a large headrest like [this one](https://www.gracobaby.com/shop/car-seats/infant-car-seats/snugride-snugfit-dlx-infant-car-seat/SAP_2156211.html). These models have an infant body insert that is actually supportive and useful (avoiding the issues with the Lite models) and they allow you to shorten the crotch buckle for an improved fit if needed. There are several “trim levels” with different names - the extra stuff like winter covers and one hand adjust handles and whatnot are irrelevant, you can pick a model with the right type of headrest that meets your price preferences and has whatever bonus accessories you like. - Clek Liing - pricy but *amazing* for preemies. If you want a bougie car seat then this is the one to get for a preemie (skip everything Uppababy, and most Nunas). The infant insert is unique in the US but a common style in Europe- the baby’s butt sits on a block shaped “shelf” to promote good body position and prevent slouching. I’ve known people to balk at this design because it looks odd for US consumers but MAN it’s effective! The base is also lots of fun - rigid latch and load leg are great every management features. One of my own 27 week twins came home from the NICU in a Liing on his due date. - Nuna Pipa Urbn: same category as the Joie Mint Latch, it’s a baseless seat that clicks directly into the vehicle latch anchors. The other Pipa models (the ones with bases) aren’t my favorite for tiny preemies but the Urbn is lovely because it has smaller harness adjustments and a more supportive insert setup than the other Pipa models. The head insert has two layers and I usually remove the top layer to prevent it from pushing little heads forward. My youngest used this one for a while too! Two major drawbacks: it’s only available as a travel system with a stroller so it’s expensive and you don’t have the full market of stroller options to choose from unless you want to spend *more* money. (I have the Triv model stroller with mine and it’s solid but I’m not a Nuna stroller fangirl in general. More often I used the Urbn with my Bugaboo Butterfly stroller with adaptors). Aaand it has a maximum weight limit of 22lbs (compared to 30-35lbs for the others on this list). Most babies outgrow a 30-35lb car seat by height way before they reach the weight limit, but 22lbs comes quickly especially for higher percentile babies. My 80th percentile youngest was too heavy for this seat by like 8 months old. - skip baby trend. For the love of NICU CPSTs everywhere, please don’t get a BabyTrend seat. ??

Central Chidlom has loads but prices are going to be similar across the city, the one we got (can’t remember exactly which but it’s Joie and is whichever was the highest rated on which that was available here) was about 3x what it costs in Europe - this isn’t hyperbole, I actually bought the same seat in Europe when we visited for a month. We have it & haven’t had any issues. The newborn insert does have a small pillow inside of it that’s meant only for teensy babies, so you have to remove it if your baby is over 7# or something like that. We also adjusted which level we clicked into the anchors of the car because initially he was more forward leaning, but he looks much better now. The blue line on the side of the shell has to be parallel to the ground (not to the slope of the seat). I do love the Latch as a whole, super easy install.

I do believe it is this seat which is a good budget one. If you're on Facebook, I recommended joining the Bump to Booster group. The admins are experts and are so good at giving good non-judgemental advice. This is a good seat once baby fits but all isofix seats have a set weight limit, usually around 18kg for low budget seats which doesn't tend to last children long enough so then it would be recommended to buy a longer lasting seat which is double the money. I got the maxi cosi cabriofix with base with my travel system (had to ask for others as the pebble wasn't very supportive or recommended) and now I use the Avionaut Sky. We switched around 6 months and love it so I can highly recommend that. It lasts until 25kg which should see my low centile baby until she's old enough for a booster. It was pricier at £300 but it lasts 10 years so we'll get lots of use out of it when we have our next one too. It really is a minefield so don't worry. I went down a rabbit hole when I was pregnant and had a panic attack that my baby would die if I would bought the pebble. All my friends have them and they're fine seats. My baby wouldn't die if she were in it but them hormones are brutal!

Ultimately we won’t need the single to double function which was one of the main appeals. Joke’s on me, my mom bought the travel system anyway ?? Joie or graco are both fine. They do a lower level seat than the stages if you’re no longer rear facing. Other brands are also fine thanks to our highly regulated system. As a run-down of the rules here: New car seats are R129 compliant. Also known as I-size and are based on the height of the child. Some older style seats are still sold, but will be listed as R44. These are still completely legal and safe but the R129 moves from a weight based system to a height based system, includes more directional crash testing and longer rear-facing on models including the 0-15m age option. Child car seats in the UK are highly regulated and tested. Buying from Halfords, they won’t be selling any seats that aren’t tested and compliant so feel free to spend less than £100 if it suits the needs of your children. Children under 15 months / 74cm must rear-face. Children over that may forward face or rear-face. Children up to 105cm must use a 5point harness. Any child over that can use a seat-belt high back. Most children here tend to start forward facing somewhen between 2 and early 4 but rear facing is obviously safer etc. If you’re happy forward facing both kids, look between £60-£100 for a basic R129 seat that still meets all relevant regulation and testing.

Expecting in 12 days and we got the Joie Ginger & Mint Latch Travel System. We’ve tested it out without the baby and it is pretty easy to clip in plus fits great with the stroller. I believe you can just buy the car seat on its own though if you don’t want the whole travel system!

Second the latch system! The Joie Mint Latch car seat also has it and works well for us so far!
