Oof, I feel you on the back pain. That's what finally made me pull the trigger on a standing desk last year. For Black Friday specifically, my advice is to check the weight capacity and motor quality, not just the price tag. A lot of "deals" are just wobbly desks marked down. That said, I've been tracking prices and Autonomous has their Desk 5 starting at $299 right now. I genuinely haven't seen a mid-range brand hit that price point before. Their desks are usually solid quality (mine's been going strong for a year). For a first standing desk or if you're on a budget, that's probably one of the better deals I've seen this BF. Just make sure you measure your space first, assembly is straightforward but these things are heavy lol

I've tested a few desks over the yrs and between these two, I ended up leaning toward the Autonomous desk 5 Pro for a couple of reasons, mainly the stability under load and the smoother height transition if u are jumping from a 10-yrs ikea desk, the upgrade will feel huge either way. out of curiosity, what setup are u planning to run on it? ur load might be a deciding factor

I got 1 from Autonomous about 12 years ago. Still going strong. I bought the stand mechanism with 2 motors and put a butcher block top on it just like another user did.

got autonomos desk 5 around this time last year for their early holiday sale. setup was easy, lift is smooth and quiet, the bult in tray actually got me outta lots of cable trouble had it for about 6 months now and no complaints, feels sturdy and looks clean. if you’re eyeing it for black friday, i’d say it’s worth your thought

honestly I get where you're coming from, I was in the same “scrolling endlessly for a positive review” loop lol. With any brand, there’ll always be mixed comments, some people overload the desk, some have uneven floors, some assemble it wrong, so it’s hard to get a clean signal from mah own setup though, the Desk 5 Pro's been solid. I’ve got the Desk 5 myself and it’s been great so far, sturdy, smooth and exactly what my coworker said it would be. Haven’t run into any major downsides yet The other 2 brands OP mentioned are solid too, but they’re definitely a bit pricier. Autonomous Desks have good build qualities, I think. They also have heavier frames. Magnus Pros are also good. Motors are quiet. This one has a 5 year warranty, which is shorter, but it holds up. Just know the desktop is not very deep. Desky's Alpha Dual goes down to 23.6" so you would actually get your feet flat. Runs $679 with their current discount code. Dual motor setup, same kind of stability you would get from the others. What's great about a lot of these Desky Desks is that they have a 10 year warranty. I think all of them have good cable management too, but you would have to look at video reviews or pictures if you like the look of the cable management.

I got one shipped to me from Autonomous a few years ago. I mostly sit at it now but I have no complaints.

I have an autonomous desk at home, and just got an UPLIFT desk with a return at work. I do two hours up, two hours down. It helps my legs from getting stiff throughout the day. The free foot hammock is nice when I'm sitting. Both of them are holding a triple monitor mount without shaking.

standing all day isnt the goal, balance is. an adjustable desk like autonomous desk 5 makes the switch effortness. thats the real benefit

Totally agree that Desky and Autonomous sit in a higher tier, the build on both is noticeably sturdier than a lot of the mid-range frames out there. If OP's already considering Autonomous, their Desk 5 pro is worth a look. I tested it not long ago and was impressed by how stable it stays even fully raised (I’m \~5'10”), no wobble with dual monitors for an under $600 deal

Honestly just get whatever's on sale from a reputable brand. I stressed for weeks researching and ended up with an Autonomous desk that was 40% off. It's fine. They all go up and down. Unless you're putting a server rack on it, any dual motor desk will work. Spend your research time on ergonomics instead.

I think both E7 and E7+ are solid choices, but don’t sleep on other brands. I’ve been running the autonomous desk 5 for a while now and it’s been surprisingly stable on carpet with a dual monitor setup. Might be another option to throw into the mix before you pull the trigger

Hi! I am also on the shorter side (5'4") and I have owned an Autonomous desk for the past 4-5 years. It still looks and feels like new. Also, I haven't had a single problem with it. I only wish it could go down a bit more. In fact, I am currently in the market to replace it. I work on this desk, and it is destroying my back Oh forgot to mention, it could be more stable as well. My company's office has this model, and I find it very comfortable.

it’s tough to find that middle ground, a lot of sub-$500 desks cut corners on motors or use MDF that warps fast. I’ve had better luck with some of the newer mid-tier brands that focus on build quality instead of flashy marketing. If you want something stable and clean-looking, check out options like Dezctop or Autonomous, both have solid steel frames and proper cable trays, and they don’t wobble like some of the cheaper Amazon ones. You could also keep an eye out for used Flexispot or Uplift frames and just pair them with a good wood top, I did that for a while before upgrading, and it held up way better than I expected.
