100% the answer is Sonos. The Beam Gen 2 soundbar is a solid soundbar that offers decent atmos sound. The next step up to the Sonos Arc or Arc Ultra will hit different if you're not worried about cost. Add a Sonos Sub and that's all you'll need. I say this as someone that has a Klipsch Reference Premier 5.1.2 setup with a Denon 2800h receiver in my living room. I use the soundbar setup in my bedroom and it has pretty good quality. Does it hit quite the same as Atmos in a true home theater setup? Of course not, but it's still a damn good soundbar choice that gives you the Atmos you want.

If you don't care 'much' about Atmos sound then the Fives are the solution. I will say get the arc though because in the future you can run the arc as a soundbar and add other speakers. You will not be able to use the era 100s/300s or Fives for TV sound. Just my thoughts.

The vocals and front Atmos are improvements. It's noticeable in some content and maybe incremental in other content. Mainly referring to Netflix/HBO/Disney etc. If you run Kodi content with high bit rates it's definitely a huge difference.

Still have a Playbar in my downstairs den paired with two Play:3s. I only replaced my upstairs Playbar to an Arc a few years ago because the little flapper door for the optical cable input broke and it would no longer hold the plug in place. Perfectly working otherwise, what shame to have to junk it. Sonos said they can't fix that so they gave us a nice deal for an update to Arc. While on this subject, is there any advantage to using an HDMI from eARC/ARC to the Playbar utilizing Sonos' HDMI to Optical adapter? Or is there nothing to gain over using an Optical cable?

That was the idea. Stand alone power for a bedroom. Amazing. I left my Arc, era 300’s and 2 subs in the theatre room and kept Ultra in the bedroom without subs and surrounds.

Hearing is different. Many here, including myself are praising the stand alone unit. How good it is. That’s where it shines. But the word “worth” has to be shared with “value”. Twice as much $$$ for the Ultra isn’t worth it for the average consumer. I got it as a gift. I immediately saw the value in it when using it alone in my bedroom. But not with surrounds and subs. Is it an improvement? Sure. But $500 more? Not quite.

In your opinion. Everyone’s ears are different. As a stand alone unit you are correct but when used in surround it’s not so obvious. It’s not worth $500 more to upgrade from the Arc.

I second who ever said Sonos Arc Ultra. Again doesn’t have rears or sub but the quality of the sound is great for music and movies. The surround is great for the time being until you can potentially add rears and later a sub but the sub is great in the bar alone. Depending how big your space is. I can give you a 15% discount code for them as well.

I live in an apartment and have a pretty high end soundbar system (Sonos Arc Ultra, Era 300s, Sub and Sonos Amp powering front left / right) and having experienced several AVR based system I’ll be the first to admit that if I ever live somewhere that can I can have a dedicated theatre room I’ll be switching in a heartbeat. Don’t get me wrong my system sounds great but it’s nowhere near that level, especially for Atmos with ceiling mounted speakers.

In my opinion, a pair of Era 300s will sounds better than Era 100s + Arc Ultra + mini Sub for music. I have a pair of Sonos Play 1s, Arc, and mini sub and it sounds perfectly acceptable for music but there's something about the Era 300s that are more "full sounding".

I couldn’t agree more. My Era 100s stereo pair sounded soooo much better, in terms of filling the place and even clarity, than when I have finally setup my Arc Ultra x Era 100s surrounds.

I had a really cheap sound system before I got a Beam Gen 1 and I didn’t really get blown away either. I did start enjoying it a lot more once I added surround speakers and other Sonos speakers for each room for multi room audio. I eventually upgraded to the Arc and that was a decent jump in quality.

Hate to say this as it may not be helpful but most of matters on your surrounding area and placement. I have the Arc Ultra, Sub Gen 4, 2 Symfonisk standing lamps in our family room and a Q990C in our living room. They both sound good but they do produce a different sound. They both are easy to set up. The reason Q990 series is so popular is the value. Most people probably get it on sale and not MSRP. If I had to choose one for myself, I would go with Sonos but again the area you set everything up matters a lot. Sonos does have the calibration and Samsung kind of does too but it’s been debated if it does anything at all as when you turn it off and on, you do not hear any difference. If you want to save money and get a great experience, go with Q990 series. If you like the sound of your lamp, even though it’s not a soundbar. Should have the same sound signature. As I’m sure everyone who has Sonos says, you can use the surrounds as actual speakers if you decide or if you get more Sonos products, you can have audio all over the house. If you decide to go with Sonos, let me know. I may be able to provide you a 15% discount code and if you decide to go with Samsung, I get it for $700. However I do have to login and order it.

I have a Sonos arc ultra which has a mini woofer in the bar itself. I have been overwhelming impressed with it, its not sub level shaking but I can literally feel the base when it hits. It depends on your setup, i live in a semi-detched house so I don't want the base rumbling through the wall to the neighbour. If you are detached then a cheaper centre soundbar with a bass unit may be better overall. that said for your budget you will only get so much.

I did an AB of Bose Ultra and Sonos Arc Ultra. I have to say the Sonos is superior. Very well balanced, better bass, localisation for music is audible. The Bose seems to upmix everything, giving space to contents where even it is inappropriate. Unfortunately, the Bose is priced same as the normal Arc, which I was unable to test.

You can connect to an arc ultra through Bluetooth which will play music out of the soundbar and any peripherals directly attached to your home theatre system in the Sonos app. In my case that’s an ultra and two Sonos one’s.

I would say it depends on your room, your TV and especially your needs. The Arc Ultra is a good soundbar and won‘t disappoint you. If you plan to add a Sub and Rears you can also buy that stuff later, because the system is modular. Maybe listen to one. And maybe compare the Beam 2. I just upgraded from Beam 2 to Arc Ultra. I‘m happy with it. And its good if you want to upgrade to some multi room features in future.

Got a Sonos Arc (not the Ultra) for the wife, and she's happy with it. I have the Q990F in the living room. You can get the Sonos Arc or Arc Ultra and later add the Sub and the rear speakers. I'm amazed with the Sonos Arc; it sounds like I have rear speakers. As a standalone soundbar, the Sonos Arc music reproduction is top-tier. The Q990F, on the other hand, is great for movies and gaming. Not that the Sonos Arc isn't good for gaming, but Samsung's game mode just sounds amazing. I use my Q990F as a reference because it's literally the same as the Q990D, just with 100 watts more, a revamped subwoofer, and an IAMF decoder (aka Eclipsa Audio). I would say if you want a complete system, go for the Q990D. If you don't have the space for the rear speakers or you want a more simplistic look, go with the Sonos Arc Ultra, knowing that later you can add a sub and rear speakers if you choose to.

I have an arc and a pair of 100’s in an apartment. The 100’s perform quite well, much more bass than the ARC, They are not paired with the ARC , but used as separate speakers I. The same physical room as the ARC. This works best for us, watching older non atmos shows most of the time and YouTube videos.

I have an arc with two era 300 and a subwoofer. Just upgraded to ultra. Honestly the difference is not that noticeable. It might be a little better but it’s almost like I have to convince myself. Even the dialogue to me was only slightly louder as opposite to some reviewers experience. I think if you have Apple TV and turn on the speech enhancement it would make even less a difference. Overall not worth the upgrade and would wait for the next generation product.

Recently got the LG G4 and the following Sonos system to pair with it: - Arc Ultra - Era 300s - Sub mini I have had no issues with the above. I did wait a while before diving into my first Sonos system after reading/watching tons of reviews etc. Very happy with the overall outcome and sound quality. For context we do have a small living room (3.5m x 4.5m) with standard UK ceiling height. I did originally have the Era 100s with the setup as though the room was too small for the Era 300s for both movies and music, but after trialling both options the Era 300s were definitely a great combo and gave a greater well balanced sound for both movies and music. I found the sound from the Era 100s were quite influenced by the more directional nature of how they output sound vs the Era 300s being more flexible and forgiving. But all this is just my opinion and experience. Hope this helps in some way.

I just made the upgrade from the Beam Gen2 to the Arc Ultra. May it depends on your room, your setup and your TV. For me I can say that the upgrade is noteable. The sound is much brighter, better high tones and the bass is stronger. I also moved to a bigger appartment and now I have a larger living room with 25 m^2. but I also have two One SL as surrounds and a Sub Mini for the deeper sounds. Long story short, I definetly would say that you can hear the difference. Brighter sound and the Atmos Effects are clearer. For me it was worth the upgrade. But the Beam Gen2 is still a very good soundbar. If you have the money and its worth to you, go for it. But if you stay with the beam you also won‘t be disappointed.

Standalone, I think the Ultra is better. More bass, yes. The sound signature is very very bright though, to the point of sounding shrill/harsh at times with no way to tune that away without making it sound lifeless. If you have or plan to add a sub and rears, the difference between Arc and Arc Ultra will be so small that I would just save my money and take the Arc.
