I don't understand, you bought the best soundbar in that price range and returned. Jbl will not be as good. You should have stuck with 990d and if you really hate the music on it so much, then get something dedicated for music. I am sorry, but I have been reading for a while and 990d/f are the top in that price range

I’m have the q990d and it is way thicker than I anticipated. Luckily I was able to push my tv back some. But even with my tv all the way back it barely fit on my tv stand. But if you did put it on your tv stand it would point down which wouldn’t be good. I’m not sure how wide the 800 is but if it’s skinnier you’re probably better off.

I’ve had Sony, lg, and Vizio and recently got a q990d and it blows my other soundbars out of the water. There are definitely better surround sound options out there. But as far as soundbars go it seems it’s either Sonos or Samsung that most people champion. And most reviewers agree.

Any soundbar can do. But depends on how immersed you want to be. A 200 dollar soundbar is not going to sound near as good as a 1000 dollar one. I have a Samsung q990 and it trumps every other soundbar I’ve had up to this point. I’d highly recommend it if you have the cash. But if not, any soundbar will be better than tv speakers.

Also, at least with the q990d you can adjust the volume of the rears and change it left/right as well. For me in my usual seating position the right rear is a bit closer to me than the left rear so I have the right rear turned down a bit in volume to make it equal to my ears.

The Samsung is better. Don’t get an LG just for the soundbar+TV feature (“WOW orchestra” or something like that), the consensus seems to be that it’s a pretty dumb feature and certainly inferior to just having a good soundbar on its own. Other brands offer the same thing with their TV+soundbars and it’s a complete gimmick always. The Q990F is very solid and often on sale. I went down the soundbar route too (space limitations, so can’t have a proper avr + speaker system) and ended up with the Q990D. Very similar to the Q990F and am quite satisfied with it.

I can’t speak to personal experience with the others, but I find the Samsung Q990D to be very good. It’s basically the same as the Q990F except the sub of the newer F model is supposedly cleaner but a bit less punchy (probably not a problem in a small apartment). At loud and lower volumes, the soundbar sounds great compared to anything else I’ve had. I highly recommend especially at that price. The rears are not overkill as I think the sort of loud noise that might annoy your neighbors will be coming from the soundbar and sub, not the rears. If you can set up rear speakers in your space, definitely get a soundbar that comes with a set. In fact, I would still get the q990f even if I had to set up the rears as fronts because that price is very good.

Id avoid the Samsung Q990D at all costs. Ever since the recent firmware update, it has completely bricked many units - mine included. I’ve done every tech support recommendation from Samsungs support, crawled Reddit and YouTube endlessly, nothing works. Now in the process of trying to get my money back. Save yourself the insane headache and buy any other sound bar.

I commented on similar posts a while ago. Here is a copy paste Please refer to the Dolby Atmos speaker placing guide, or the ones from the Q990D/F manual. Next, you wanna calibrate the channels so that from the seating position, every speaker outputs the same volume. This varies from setup to setup, so you have to do it yourself. if your on an iPhone (there might be similar apps on Android), download the NIOSH App, place the phone with the microphone upwards on the seating position at ear level and get all channels to the same volume, as your main speakers on the bar. You can use a Dolby Atmos Channel Test sound file, which is somewhere in this sub. You have to make sure, that the bar gets fed with the Atmos audio signal, otherwise it won’t work. Then you should be good to go :)

the q990d dual hdmi 2.1 passthru is the only reason i went for it(4k120,dolby vision, earc with 0 lag..or at least no visible lag) also made all my cable mess go away since i do not have to run 3 hdmi cables to the tv(wall mount): PC CoreElec android box Q990D pc hdmi and android box hdmi go in the q990d and one hdmi to the tv. also you can set the rear speakers as front speakers. can also confirm with this setup : pc-->q990d-->G4 oled no audio lag

I use the s990d with the rear speakers as fronts. It’s better than not using them at all, but they certainly work better as rear speakers. I wish I could find a way to set them up as rears but it’s basically impossible with the shape of my living room. That being said, I got the set on sale for like 750$. The sound upgrade was absolutely worth it given that price.

Q990D sub is somewhat better than Q800C sub and even Q990C sub. A lot more disciplined and still deep enough to rumble the house at 25+ volume. Even though all this subs got the same 8 inch driver, Q990 series subs are technically delivering 40W more power than Q800 & Q930 series subs. It really depends on what you are going to use it. If you're listening mainly to music, it won't make much difference anyway.

Have the q990d. Previously had my sub wedged between the tv stand and a bookshelf. At most times, bass seemed missing even on high setting. Moved the sub to the left of the tv stand and now even with +3, feels like the house shakes. It's super punchy. Smooth side facing me. Sub speaker facing tv stand.

Honestly, I haven't tried Standard mode at all, however, I still believe it has to be something about the Bluetooth chip, and I feel like they improved it on the Q990D! So, the Q990C has Bluetooth 4.2 which even Q950A uses, and apart from the HDMI 2.1 upgrade, I haven't seen anyone talking about the new Bluetooth 5.2 chip the Q990D will have which I think it will fix this issue. Had the opportunity to test a JBL 1300 having a Bluetooth 5.0 chip and couldn't hear any high frequency distortions!

Why do you want to stick with LG brand for the sound bar? I have a C4 65” as my family’s main TV. We got a Samsung Q990D and I am VERY happy with it. It’s entirely wireless other than needing power. Soundbar up front. Wireless subwoofer that just needs to be plugged into a power outlet. 2 back satellite speakers that are also wireless (and need power outlet) Plus that Dolby Atmos. It is a sweet setup that perfectly complements the C4 OLED. You would be able to get it or the C model, heavily discounted now since they have announced the Q990E. The Q990D is considered the very best soundbar without going into audiophile pricing territory ($2,000+) https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/samsung/hw-q990d

It all depends on what TV you have now and how you perceive the image. Some people won’t notice a big difference between the led Nu8000 and OLED S90D. You can watch all the videos in the world and hear great stories about color and blacks, but if you personally don’t see it clearly, it doesn’t matter and will bring less impact than sound system . I bought the S90D, and everyone was amazed by it I also bought the Q990D, and that amazed me more . So, my personal opinion is that if your TV isn’t too bad, go for the sound system. It brings an immersive experience (again, if you invest in something good) And different movie experience and later on you can go for tv . Also we can’t ignore the price my q990d was 650$ and s90d 77 1350$

With the factors you want it to meet the q990d wins. I have it myself and it sounds amazing. The q990f from what I have seen will have improved bass and a new audio format from Samsung that is supposed to compete with other similar formats like Dolby Atmos. Besides that not much else. If money is not an issue the Sonos setup is preferable. You can even have two subwoofers and a modular setup for the long road. With the modularity you can swap speakers and other components for a solution that best fits your needs.
