IMHO, the Q800D is an incredible value and will not disappoint. While the F series does have the newer compact sub, the actual driver size is smaller. The Q800D has an 8in driver, while the Q800F is a 6.5in driver with an 8in passive radiator. Both are superior to the S800 series, as they'll have much richer tone due to their larger drivers and higher wattage.

Just got the 800D from Samsung. Coming from a Yamaha 3.1.2. Massive leap. I haven't tried watching a lot of my physical media as of yet, only a few but it's amazing so far. I'll probably want to get the 9500s satellites down the road but right now it's perfect for my setup.

Sound bars have their place. Typically a small apartment. I have a Samsung Q 800 it’s quite good. Would it be better with individual speaker of course but for my use case I prefer this. It’s cleaner looking and it works well.

I find the cheap Samsung or the slim ones sound rough that’s why I called out the specific one I have. You have tried the Q800 or Q910/990 series? I used to have a Vizio that also sounded solid for what it was but the Samsung Q800 is far better. I went to a large audio shop and I wanted a soundbar for a variety of personal reasons and it was the best one that I could find.

I recently purchased the Samsung Q800D and am QUITE impressed! \* wide sound state \* gets lound \* bassy if you like it that way \* fantastic instrument saparation I consume more music than tv/movies, so I notice the details more than cinema consumption, I'd say. Highly impressed with this soundbar so far, also considering how it doesn't have rear speakers.

Soundbars (high tier) nowadays are very good. Although. But if you really appreciate surround sound and/or music I would recommend at least a 3.1 system+AVR instead. I was never pleased with my Samsung Q800 soundbar, so I went back to regular speakers again and couldn't be happier.

Ya I went from a JBL 2.1 soundbar that maybe cost me $300 in 2019, to the Q800 it there was little to no difference. Some movies even sounded worse especially with voices or dialogue. Luckily I got it on sale but the normal price of these Samsung set ups for the quality is insane. Just get a decent speaker and avr set up for that.

Depends. I've got a Q800d which is a very good midrange soundbar. I genuinely got a fright watching Fight Club the other night with the sound of the faux plane crash. I'd recommend that one out of personal experience. But any decent soundbar should comfortably twat TV speakers, especially any with a subwoofer

Get the Sonos system. Samsung is terrible at support. Further you can buy the Sonos components from Costco. At least most of them. Return policy is quite generous as you probably know. Don’t be tempted by the Samsung pricing. It’s just not as good or reliable as the Sonos systems. He’ll even the JBL soundbar systems have better sound than the Q series.

At a minimum get the samsung q800. Movies with Disney, prime and apple TV sounds great on surround sound. Unfortunately Netflix wants to ridiculously charge for 4k and dolby surround. Like 29 a month

If you are not interested in the Multiroom abilities at all, it's hard to recommend the Beam. For 800 bucks you can get a  Samsung Q990D, which comes with Sub and rears and destroys the Beam Gen 2. Even the 800D performs better. It comes with a Sub and costs roughly the same as the Beam alone. The Sonos Arc Ultra is significantly more expensive, but also in another galaxy regarding sound quality. However, if you care for money more than for multiroom audio and music, the Samsung would again be the better choice.

I have both.  7.1 Home theater at home and a Q800D in an apartment I rent for work.  There's no comparison.   The soundbar is good, and infinitely better than a TV speaker, but my home theater blows it out of the water. However,  there's no way I'd use that home theater in an apartment or townhouse, so the Q800D with subwoofer at a low volume is my apartment choice.

I’ve had the sennheiser ambeo, Bose smart ultra, and the Samsung q800, in that order. First two were returned for connectivity issues with my newish Samsung tv. The q800 has been great (the ambeo probably had the best surround but only if it connected). Q symphony is amazing. With the first two bars, you could clearly tell the sound was coming from below the TV… q symphony fixes that completely. And the subwoofer is amazing.

Yes, but I'd wager that he wants a full body sound stage. Pick up an open box Q-600C/F or QS-730D, then test it out. You'll be very surprised. I personally have a Samsung Q-800D (5.1.2) with Samsung SWA-9500S rear speakers (2.0.2) combined with the TV speakers (Q-Symphony) for a total of a 7/9.2.4 channel surround sound system. Along with the 77" S90D streaming through an Apple TV 4K ethernet model, it's truly an immersive experience! You won't be disappointed if you decide to get one. Even go to Best Buy and listen to a demo model on display!

I live in an apt and just got the Q800D, and use it without the sub. It sounds infinitely better than my TV speakers.  That said, it doesn't have the low end below 80-100Hz, but I don't want that anyway. I looked at other options, but they were way more expensive since I was able to get the 800D for around $550 with discounts.

There is no "best soundbar" for any TV. If your TV and soundbar both have HDMI ARC or eARC (LG C3 does), your soundbar's power and volume can be controlled by the tv's remote. Samsung HW-Q800D regularly goes on sale around $649/$699. I have one, it sounds great, does well for dolby atmos, the subwoofer is very good, it has lots of features like HDMI eARC, wifi, Spotify Cast, smart things, google amazon & amazon alexa support. It's rated well by RTINGS as well. Also supports SWA-9500S wireless rear speaker kit if you want to upgrade it down the road.

If the Q990 doesn't fit, don't force it. I will say that the 9500s rears that you can purchase are decent, but NOT the same speakers that you get with the Q990. I would 100% buy a Q990 for future proofing just for the improved rears, even if I didn't use them for awhile. Alternatively, but the Q800 now (I love mine), and then upgrade to the Q990 when the time comes. it's not going to kill you - you can always repurpose the Q800 to another room or sell it to get a bit of $$ back.

I was in the same exact position. I ordered a Samsung TV and HW-Q600C soundbar "for fun" in the beginning of this month. Liked the concept so much but returned both to get better models.  What I can say based on my countless hours of research: as of now, the best "budget" but decent quality system is hw-q600c especially if you can get some used version on Amazon or eBay.  The next best system for money is a used / renewed HW-QS730D. This is basically an improved version of the q600c with a better subwoofer, Wi-Fi and FLAC/ALAC support, as well as AirPlay 2 and others. I've realized how important wifi is for loseless streaming. You can't just do it on BT, have to use HDMI.  If you want to know what I ended up with: I've found an HW-Q800D for $370 on eBay from a reputable seller. It's used, but turned out to be like new. I guess enthusiasts here would say it's a steal. I am impressed with the quality of this tech.  Good luck! Added: I see you're concerned about design. Look up hw-s800b and related. Used of course if you want to save up a noticeable amount!

Some say you should not go below Samsung Q800D, and I lisened. Turned out to be a good decision, so I recommend it as well. Q600 has high latency based on Rtings, Q700 lacks bass. Q800 has no rears, but you can buy them later as an addon if you want and have the budget. I don't know much about other brands.

You could have got the 930f for £150 in that 45 minute period with the discount code and cash back. You need to keep an eye out at the start of every October, for sound bars and for tvs as they do silly offers where it makes more sense to buy it and sell what ever you have. I got a q800 and a 65 inch q80r when newly released for £ 1400 total price. Tv was £2100 and sound bar was £800 before cashback.

As a happy Q800d owner, that one. I'm going through the Harry Potter series currently and I just finished Chamber of Secrets. The Quidditch match in that film is one of the best action sequences I've seen in some time and the sound design for it is big reason why. I don't think I would have appreciated it as much with another soundbar. There's detail and real oomph (perhaps too much oomph from the sub, but that's not a problem for me) The side firing speakers give a nice width to the soundstage. And it handles action really well. Explosions and impacts have that 'WHOOMPH!' that I love watching action films in the cinema, with real size and depth. The raptors attacking the cow in Jurassic Park feels terrifying where it didn't before, the Trex attack is incredible, the bass when the brachiosaur's feet thunder on the ground is glorious, the car slamming to the ground when it falls out of the tree is amazing too as is the Galliimus stampede, which has great detail and real width, giving that sense of a herd of animals in your living room. I'm gushing a bit and using perhaps too many superlatives but I really love this thing. I got mine for a nice bargain and I see that, luckily for me and unfortunately for others, the price seems to have gone up. But if you can get it or one of its siblings (the Q800A, B, C or the current F) I'd recommend based on my experience with the Q800D

Rather than ¨bigger is better¨you might want to consider a soundbar with the biggest soundstage. I just got a Sonos Arc Ultra with two era 100s to replace a Samsung Q800 with rear surrounds. Even though they are similar in size the Sonos soundstage blows the Samsung out of the water.

Brand does not matter a lot if you don't want to use brand specific features (e.g. Samsung's Q-Symphony or Wireless Atmos - I don't know about features like this from TCL). HDMI-CEC supports power and volume controls, and changing source to the TV. I have a Samsung Q800D and it's amazing but it costs around $500. You should check out the Q700 series as those are cheaper but has good score on Rtings.

I'm gonna assume you're in US, you can get Q700 or even Q800 at around $350-$400 depending on your luck. Too bad you just missed out on massive Christmas sale. (Don't bother about the latest D model, unless you absolutely need some minor feature upgrade. You can get C or B model cheaply if you're lucky.) I highly recommend mid range Samsung soundbars just because their surround expansion kit is massively cheaper than any competitors. You can get SWA-9500S rear speaker set later for around $150-$200 depending on your luck. Even if you don't plan to upgrade with surround kit later, they are still solid overall.

Get at least. 3.1 bar. I like the Samsung q600f for it's value. It's enough. It's good. It's a hell of a lot better than the tv speakers. Something like the q000f will blow you away without being too bulky. But it's double. Split the difference with the q800. I quite like the Samsung bars. Sony's good but expensive and piecemail. I don't really like their sub and bar combo ones. Some with sonos or bose. Nice but expensive and piecemail. TCL and Hisense have stuff but I've never heard it. But also haven't heard discussion about it. I like JBL. But their bars are just too bass heavy and the mids aren't great. Lg's not bad either. But Samsung is my choice
