r/Ubiquiti • Next-Gen UniFi Doorbell Experiences Bring Protect & Access Together ->Native HomeKit: Aqara G4/G410 More involved: UniFi G4 doorbell -> Scrypted UniFi Plugin -> HKSV
r/HomeKit • Best HKSV Doorbell right now? ->The wifi model was horrible for me. Despite having the AP nearly on the other side of the door it had a terrible signal. I suspect the steel door is at fault but I'm not replacing the door. It looks nice. PoE was the only way I could get the doorbell to stop disconnecting. I opened the old one up and connected a 2.4 GHz antenna and dangled it out of the case just as a test. Sure enough it worked great but it looks stupid with a giant antenna that is easy to rip off anyway.
r/Ubiquiti • Next-Gen UniFi Doorbell Experiences Bring Protect & Access Together ->10000% Agree. You are trying to make one camera do the work of at least two cameras here. Get a wired PoE doorbell cam to do doorbell cam duty. Then get either as u/Curious\_Party\_4683 suggested a 4mm or greater lens, or a cameras with PTZ (with actual optical Z) and auto tracking. Reolink and Unifi make good options for both of those.
r/smarthome • Highest quality video (for about 60 feet+) in a doorbell cam? ->Some do. Eufy and Unifi offer dual camera options that they typically call a "package cam" I think the bigger issue is angle and height. A camera will have a wider and further view when you can get ya boi Pythagoras in on the game and angle that camera down. So it's hard to have a doorbell which must by it's very nature be lower down to see people and let them press the button.
r/smarthome • Highest quality video (for about 60 feet+) in a doorbell cam? ->Yeah, I have it. The ubiquiti ecosystem just rocks. The user flows in their apps, the hardware, the locally stored data archive and security features for remote access. It's not a value brand, but it rocks—if you have money I would go with ubiquiti everything and never look back—I think of them like I think of Apple in terms of UX and core tech. If you have the network gear it's just like that but applied to security. Slick. I have something like a 16TB security drive in my UDM pro that logs my 10+ cameras locally for some months, then a rolling backup to a NAS that gives me a year+ of logging in case we are slow to notice something. It's all completely rock solid, and their wifi gear has enough juice that I haven't bothered pulling POE for most of them. I never scratch more than 40% of my wireless bandwidth. Funnily, the G4 just more than paid for itself as I was able to prove to a contractor that their guy created some gnarly property damage. It was far away but clear as day. I panned easily through at high speed to find the right time, capped the frames, archived them and sent in like 3min.
r/smarthome • I analyzed Reddit data for the 25 most recommended smart doorbells (in the past year) ->I moved to UniFi and their doorbell is 10000x better. The video quality is incomparable.
r/Ring • Ring doorbell sucks ->My Ring doorbell was useless. It missed events all the time, the intercom barely worked, and the video quality was garbage. I replaced it with a UniFi wifi doorbell and all those problems went away.
r/Ring • Ring doorbell sucks ->Ordered a g4 wifi. It had an issue and was rma. Gonna send it back. Replacement was back ordered so hopefully this means new bell without Poe for us in the same boat
r/Ubiquiti • Do wait or not to wait (Doorbells) ->Unifi Protect doorbell has been good for me.
r/homeassistant • Looking for a video doorbell without subscriptions and creating accounts ->I love the G4 and the display
r/Ubiquiti • Found this preview of the doorbells! ->It’s not, we rotate between Peppa pig, Bluey, snoopy, Elmo, and Mickey GIFs and all the kids in the neighborhood absolutely love it
r/Ubiquiti • Found this preview of the doorbells! ->g4 better has wifi can be powered via normal doorbell wires and isnt huge. this is a downgrade.
r/Ubiquiti • Next-Gen UniFi Doorbell Experiences Bring Protect & Access Together ->Well this is crap wanted a drop in replacement for g4 not something thats going to need new wires run will stick to my g4 and if it dies hopefully there will be g4 stock around for a while because this new one isnt home user friendly.

r/Nest • View on Reddit →I stand by what I said. And I believe UniFi to be a better solution than Ring.
r/homesecurity • View on Reddit →I believe UniFi has way more industry trust than Ring, Amazon, Google in terms of selling customer usage data.
r/homesecurity • View on Reddit →AI detection sends me a notification the a package has been delivered… otherwise, the front facing cameras on doorbells typically don’t have sufficient field of view
r/homeassistant • View on Reddit →g4 better has wifi can be powered via normal doorbell wires and isnt huge. this is a downgrade.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Not saying a newer version isn’t coming out (I have no idea), though the G4 doorbell was discounted the same last holiday season too. That’s when I bought mine. Love the doorbell!
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →UniFi. Video is stored locally on either a Cloud Key or NVR.
r/homesecurity • View on Reddit →And somehow I bet morons in my neighborhood and delivery drivers would still press the camera lense like my g4. Edit: I don’t get the entire fiasco. The g4 doorbell is huge too. As long as the form factor isn’t bigger I could give a shit less. People are complaining now then in a year or two everyone has huge ass buttons. It’s like a modern version of the original orange illuminated doorbells most of us pulled off to put a smart door bell onto.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →I'm in the same boat. My G4 doorbell finally gave out this summer and I ordered the lite this morning. Guess I'll be finding a way to get a cable ran.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →I will be switching to a unifi doorbell. No fees and all local storage. Number of days storage is only limited by hard drive space. Add in AI features like searching for "red car" and all instances of where a red car came into view is shown, number plate and face recognition. For me, nothing better on the market.
r/Hue • View on Reddit →After using the original G4 (not Pro) doorbells, I will never use a WiFi doorbell again. It is POE all the way and I will buy once cry once on running ethernet. One of my G4 doorbells just died after 3 years. Both doorbells constantly disconnecting/reconnecting even though they are each 10-12 feet away from an AP. I bought a G4 Pro POE for $379 to replace my dead G4 (because they don't sell the POE without the Chime). Turns out I could have waited until the Doorbell Lite ships as that is pretty much like an improved G4 with POE. I am deciding whether to resell the G4 Pro POE. I don't need a fingerprint reader and additional package camera, but I am concerned about being without one of my doorbells for months.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Protect is extremely fast to notify me and load video using the G4 Doorbell over wifi5.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Unifi Protect is probably the most reliable/user friendly. I've used lots of surveillance platforms, and nothing I've seen even comes close. I haven't tried their smart plugs yet, but for cameras, doorbells & sensors, it's fantastic.
r/smarthome • View on Reddit →If it had wifi it would be the #1 doorbell but the extra effort to drop an ethernet run will keep people away, either from being lazy or difficulty / cost. I think the form factor made everyone assume a smaller size despite the dimensions available online. The wall behind my doorbell is a closet in a room that has ethernet, so running it wouldn't be too hard. I'm not sure what I will replace my original G4 Doorbell. Mine is several years old, and the battery began to fail during winter and stopped chiming my mechanical chime. I changed to just notify with the digital chime and also smart home, and the battery failure isn't a factor anymore. Mine has been in a north facing covered patio in SoCal so not weathered much.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Just here to say unifi. That is all. Good luck everyone.
r/Nest • View on Reddit →Yeah and it comes with a wedge piece to angle it better.
r/HomeKit • View on Reddit →Absolutely! I have a UniFi doorbell and it’s great. I also have 3 CCTV cameras by UniFi and it all records 24/7 to UniFi NVR. Well worth the investment.
r/AskUK • View on Reddit →10000% Agree. You are trying to make one camera do the work of at least two cameras here. Get a wired PoE doorbell cam to do doorbell cam duty. r/smarthome • View on Reddit →I use a Unifi doorbell hooked up to a UPS. My WiFi is also on the UPS. This means the doorbell is powered during an outage, the local recording is powered during an outage and I can also remote view during a power outage. If really needed, you could add a 4g backup to Unifi network gear too.
r/smarthome • View on Reddit →That would be me. My front door is 12 feet from my network closet under the stairs. Two small holes drilled and I have POE. I have a G4 doorbell there now that will move to the back door to replace one that died. I WFH so I'm not fussy about a package camera, the main camera captures it just fine. Do not need access control as that would require replacement of my front door and jamb. Old fashioned key still works fine.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →For me the G4 is sufficient. There are better unifi options (G6 coming soon) , but l need a WiFi version. So for me it's either the G4 or G4 Pro. Since I have a camera covering the front of the house, the G4 would be sufficient. The UDR7 has one POE port, so you will need a POE adapter to power one of your APs.
r/Hue • View on Reddit →My G4 is just a couple of months old but if the G6 should be compatible with the intercom viewer then it's probably time to upgrade
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Well I did, but still got ~15-days on my return window.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Well this is crap wanted a drop in replacement for g4 not something thats going to need new wires run will stick to my g4 and if it dies hopefully there will be g4 stock around for a while because this new one isnt home user friendly.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Budget? I have an Ubiquiti doorbell with scrypted. Even without scrypted it’s a great overall doorbell with the ability to save locally. Setup is expensive though
r/HomeKit • View on Reddit →UniFi ??, and the plugin is professional good
r/HomeKit • View on Reddit →Some do. Eufy and Unifi offer dual camera options that they typically call a "package cam" I think the bigger issue is angle and height. r/smarthome • View on Reddit →I have this and it works great, but it will cost a bit to get everything.
r/homeautomation • View on Reddit →That was me...WHY?! I think I'm just going to return it and go with the doorbell lite when it comes out. Seems like it'll do the trick for my current house! I'm sure the pro would be awesome but I'm also sure it's going to be like $500+ and I can't justify that on a doorbell.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →My older G4 (non-pro) doorbells have worked fine for years, until one just died in September. I quickly picked up a G4 Pro POE as I'm going to wire Ethernet 20 feet to my door, but I haven't installed it yet as the Pro is total overkill for my use. I don't need a separate package camera, NFC reader, fingerprint reader. At the same time I am sick of WiFi with a doorbell camera. I need reliability and that's not WiFi's strongest suit. I'm holding out for the new Doorbell Lite.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →I have 2 G4 Doorbells and will be replacing one with the Doorbell Lite. The doorbells have 2 settings: 1. When to record - Always, Custom or Never. I have it set to Always. (note that this only enables in conjunction with setting #2) 2. Recording Mode - Continuous, Events Only or Adaptive. I use Events only so it only records when triggered by motion. So if you had #1 set to Custom 7 AM to 7 PM, and someone came up to your door at 7:10 PM, no recording would occur. This vs. Pro: I actually bought a Pro POE a couple months back. I will not be installing it, too big and I don't need a dedicated package camera and fingerprint reader. The use case for the Pro is business facilities and rich homeowners.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →i agree ... and their doorbells have a front camera and package camera
r/homeassistant • View on Reddit →This is exactly what ie done. I’ve put a 5GB drive in my gen 2+ cloud key and it supports my UniFi video doorbell + 2 wall mounted cameras and gives me more than 3 months of video retention. No subscriptions.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Looks like the g4 WiFi is still in stock outside of the USA. For how long who knows. The WiFi version can work with mechanical chimes but often requires a transformer upgrade to use on doorbell power,as the one most people have for just the door bell are usually pretty weak. If it’s a gen 2 + I believe the cloud key has a 2.5 inch bay that can be used for protect storage. The unas can only be used as an archive location not nvr storage
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →Go with UniFi. All recording is internal to your home.
r/smarthome • View on Reddit →This. Unifi is expensive yes but it just works rocksolid
r/homeautomation • View on Reddit →The package camera is a great idea and the implementation is solid. That said, the G4 Doorbell has a camera module with a resolution that's artificially kneecapped. The image quality isn't terrible, but it's pretty close by 2025 standards. That's a product that's ripe for replacement. You can see how that replacement is going look, in an early form, by looking at the newest Access products.
r/Ubiquiti • View on Reddit →I can't speak for 'people' but my G4 doorbells have been terrible with WiFi. The front door one is 12 feet from an AP but still shows signal strength issues. The antennae in the original G4s was pretty poor. There are plenty of how to articles on replacing them here on Reddit and ending up with fantastic signal.
