This is important to maintain access to images of someone who decides to break the camera, with the memory card, off the mounting. Tapo ofc.

Everything works great. No monthly fee and uses local storage. Highly recommend. I found it equivalent or better than Nest for all features.

Same functionality as Nest, but my Nest would run out of battery every 2 weeks, take half the day to charge, and had a shitty mount and would wobble, AND it was double the price with a $10 a month subscription.

However, the doorbell has an anti-theft mode with a fairly loud alarm, and the subscription is £28 per year for a single doorbell/camera which isn't bad at all.

r/smarthome • What video doorbell is the best? ->Their naming scheme doesn't make any sense to me but after trying to compare their different models I went for the TapoD230S1 Video Doorbell Camera Kit. It comes with a little square hub that plugs into your router/WiFi box which holds the microSD card which you must buy separately, up to 512GB. I just have a 128GB one in mine. You download the Tapo app on your phone/tablet and it guides you through setup of camera and hub. Once set up you can have the app on many devices, just log in with the password you'll have made. Then you can see all the stored video saved on the microSD card or see live and even interact with a delivery person wherever in the world you are as long as you have an internet connection without the data having to be on some cloud server. I can have my phone give me notifications when someone comes to the door, like it's useful while at work to check that the dog walker didn't forget to come walk the dog and that he did bring him home or to chat to a delivery driver to tell them where to buy the parcel if not in. It can also see my car so if anyone inteferes with it while I'm on holiday I can see that - that's actually the reason I got it in the first place because I came home after being away a couple of weeks and my car have been opened up, rifled through, the interior light left on and the battery dead. But I want comfortable with using Amazon or Eufy after the stories of their employees spying on people through their cameras or Eufy's complete lack of security - the thing that got them ditched by Linus Tech Tips.

The indoor cam eats a battery in 36 hours when there's no motion, two ring doorbells completely died, and I've had to buy at least 5 replacement batteries for them due to them no longer charging. Moved to Tapo recently for the doorbells and wouldn't go back, cheaper, better camera quality and records to an SD card inside the house, so you don't have to pay monthly.

The App notifies me of whatever I want it to (movement, crossed-line, entry to specific area, person detected, or camera tampering). You can get a subscription if you want cloud storage, or you can install a micro SD card. You can speak through the camera speaker and it gives you live audio recordings too. I was an easy install and took me about 30 mins for each one, this included drilling the holes, mounting and connecting to the internet/ app set up.

If you like you can also have it stored on the cloud for a reasonable price but they are not pushy with this service, if you select to only have it stored locally they don't try to sell the subscription anymore. I have one and have the app on multiple devices, I can view either live or triggers when someone has walked past or come to the door. They have a whole ecosystem of other security devices and cameras which can all be accessed from the same app. I'm planning to get one to look out the back as I caught a bunch of teenagers climbing over my back wall

There are many doorbells that use their own chime via wifi. Those typically have the ability to change the chime and chime volume as well as not use the chime. You can choose to only receive phone notifications. Look for doorbells that use their own wireless chime. Tapo is one choice. It has many chime sound choices. You may find a a different chime sound that does not bother your dog at reduced volume

r/Ring • View on Reddit →+1 for Tapo. My doorbells are quick and they have good video quality 5mp 2k day and night. Do NOT buy blink. I ended up recycling mine as I couldn’t even sell them for $10 on marketplace. They were slow even with the blink module. They were even slower after the chip unsoldered itself from the inside of the module and I couldn’t even sell only see video when the bell was pressed. The delay with the sync module was about 7 seconds and over a dozen without. By the time I got the notification and could respond anyone who rang the bell was already off the property.

It's a bit bulky but a decent deal at ~$140. Edit, no subscription, 24hr streaming option, and local storage on SD.

r/AskIreland • View on Reddit →For a while on Android, the Tapo doorbell wouldn't do a video call to your phone unless you had the app open. As in, the app had to actually be on screen. If it was running in the background you'd only get an easily missed notification that someone had rang the doorbell. After a few few months there was an update to the app to "address Android video calling issues" and all they did was explicitly state on the permissions screen that it wouldn't work unless the app was in the foreground. Then another few months after that it actually got fixed. So I guess I give them points for actually fixing things with software updates, but it they're still 7the sort of company that uses paying customers as beta testers. As well as the doorbell I have the central hub yoke, two external wireless cameras, and a little pan and tilt camera in the kitchen that I mostly use to keep an eye on the dogs if we're out. Other than that doorbell issue I haven't had a problem with any of the kit.

However I've been using Tapo products for a bit now and love them. They have everything you want, doorbell, cameras (would recommend the wired one but also have bettery ones). Price to value is realllllly good. Subscription optional, but they all have the ability to store video to the SD card. "Ai" features just mean they can recognize a person/dog/car etc. Would recommend.
