For a two-story home, you’ll need a robot vacuum that remembers multiple floor maps and has strong suction on both hard floors and carpets. I recommend the Roborock Q5 Max; it’s a mid-range option with smart mapping and powerful suction. For quiet, slim daily cleaning, the Eufy 11S MAX is another great option. If you want detailed pros and cons on these models, I’m sharing [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/KeepThisInMind/comments/1o1wp3o/best_robot_vacuum_cleaner_for_wood_floors_that/) with the best robot vacuums for wood floors and multi-level homes. Hope it helps you find the best fit for your home!

great news! Almost ANY roborock you get (for that matter, any robot) is going to far surpass your i7 experience. I would not grab the Q5, TBH. There is, actually a very big difference between $500 and $1000 robots, but if I may recommend... I'd say the best CURRENT value on a Roborock is the Curv/Edge, the S8 MaxV Ultra and the QRevo MaxV. While the Saros are great... I don't think they're better \*enough\* than the models listed about to justify the price. Also, I'd wait for Prime Day, regardless. Also, I test robots for a living for Lifehacker, and am not sponsored by anyone, and test robots in my very real house.

To follow on to this question - what are good vaccums for pet hair? I had a RoboRock Q5 Max+ which was a pretty good unit (until it smeared and flung dog droppings everywhere with its rotating baseboard cleaning brush). The one thing I'm looking for is a vac that actually sucks the detritus successfully into its bag when it parks on its base. The Q5 Max+ was always jammed with what looked like lint/dog hair. It wouldn't get sucked into the base and would just clog the vacuum. Thanks!

I second this. I think I only paid $200 for my Q5? Mine doesn't mop or auto empty, but very good on the vacuuming front (and has all the good mapping, navigation, multi floor modes the other ones do). And they do have models with the mopping and auto emptying things.

This is more of an uninformed opinion than unpopular. I can run mine when I'm not even home. I can adjust the noise level of I am home. I can even have it do just one or 2 rooms if I want/ and have it do places I'm not occupying. I did save money and get one that I have to manually empty...but guess what? Emptying it takes me a LOT less time than vacuuming the entire floor. This sub is for opinions, but you're factually wrong on it being a waste of time, because it is saving me time...the only way it would be wasting my time is if the alternative was to not sweep or vacuum the floors at all...

Yeah, I’m slowly realizing that even at higher prices, there are still trade-offs for top models. The Roborock Q5 Max+ seems like only a minor upgrade, the Pa vacuum power is higher, but actual performance often depends on the brush and internal airflow of the robot anyway. I have a lot of 90° corners, so a moveable side brush seems like a worthwhile upgrade. I definitely want a full station with separate dirty and fresh water tanks, as well as warm water cleaning, otherwise it won’t be able to remove oily residues from the mops. I also want a good anti-hair-tangle feature and strong performance on carpets. My big carpet is deep black, and I’ve heard that some robots have issues with that? With those requirements, I keep coming back to the Roborock Q Revo Master as the cheapest option. I looked at the Eufy Omni C20 and on paper it doesn’t look bad and is only 400€, but in tests it failed at vacuuming on carpet and ended up with a lot of grime in the main brush after mopping. Eufy doesn’t seem very popular in Germany; I haven’t seen too many reviews. I did watch some videos from Vacuum Wars and Just A Dad.

Roborock q5 max+ works well with our shepherd mix. He sheds all year long. Vacuuming helps to maintain the floors in between the cleanings. There is a mopping version of that robot but it's not worth it.

Older roombas are simple, reliable, durable, effective, and cheap. But they don't have smart navigation or mapping where you can ask them to clean specific areas. If you want navigation they become less cheap and less durable. I have a 10yo 600 series roomba and a new Roborock Q5. Q5 is great but I'm skeptical that it's going to last as long.

Ya Q7 can mop but its version of mopping is really just dragging a damp mop across the floor (doesn’t rotate or vibrate like the good ones do.) The Q5 also has better suction power. Out of the 2, I’d just go for the Q5.

It’s hard to find a combo robot under 1000 AUD that also mops well. Since your home is mostly carpeted, I’d stick with the Roborock Q5 Max+.

What’s your purchasing region (usually country)? this will dictate your available choices. If in the EU, UK, and Australia, I’d go for the L40S Ultra (not the L40 Ultra) as the brushes have been improved to pick up pet hair on carpet. This is a somewhat cost effective combo model. For a vacuum only robot, the roborock Q5 Pro+ or Max+ are popular choices. The Q8 Max+ and Pro+ are also popular and will do better with obstacles.

This! I am so interested in others schedules. I just upgraded from an irobot about 4 years old to a roborock q5. It is amazing!!! I don't have enough details to share yet as it has been less than one week. Right now, I have it on the same schedule as I did the irobot. Every weekday at 6am, and every weekend day 10am. The previous robot didn't have mopping -- I have it set to only mop once a week right now. But I have seen a lot of folks say they only run every other day. For what it is worth, I have a 1200sqft single floor house. All LVT with a few short carpet runners. Dry environment so LOTS of dust. 4 to 5 dogs (we run a rescue). Humans are just my husband and myself.

I had a Samsung Jetbot that broke after a year and a half, and would have cost me $150 to fix. I went back and forth on fixing it, but ultimately realized that I could buy a brand new robot for that price. The Roborock Q5 happened to be on sale for exactly that price, so I ended up buying it, and have been using it obsessively to clean up the buildup from the past several months. I didn’t realize how much dust and hair had accumulated on my carpets in that time (I live in an apartment, and don’t own another vacuum), and looking at what a difference it’s made to have a freshly-vacuumed carpet has just given me so much tranquility. I have a cat, but really the buildup had come from me, because I have long hair that tends to shed. There was literally a mouse-sized amount of hair tangled up in the side brush after running the vacuum four times, with the main rollers covered in hair. The advice that was given to me by folks in this subreddit is to make sure you get a robot with Lidar. Lidar is the mapping technology that actually allows the robovac to clean every inch of the floor. The robovacs without Lidar just kind of bounce around, and aren’t nearly as effective at cleaning because they don’t keep track of where they’ve been. They go in zig-zag patterns, and Lidar robots go back and forth. It’s more expensive, but to me the difference is worth it. I’ll also say that what convinced me to get a robovac in the first place is that someone told me it forces them to keep their floors clean. You can’t have your floors cluttered because it will block the robot and stop it from doing its job, or even get it tangled up. So that’s just one more reason to get one.

I recently bought the Q5 max plus and have had no issues. Run it everyday with a German shepherd in the house. Didn’t need mopping so this was a perfect solution for me.  I’m also coming over from a IRobot and the Roborock has been so much better than the iRobot.

[Roborock Q5 max+ refurbished.](https://ebay.us/m/RslbTV) This is going to be a bit over a budget, but I promise it is worth the extra $20-$30. Clip the coupon and it will be $216 before taxes. And it comes with a 2 year warranty plus free returns if you hate it. I don’t think you’ll beat that price to performance. Anything new under $200 is gonna be cheap and a poor performer.

Hello there, 3 cats(4 before), 2 dogs here. I've owned iRobot, Laresmart, Shark, and Roborock vacuums for about 10 years. I've tried a few robots along the way, but before I go any further, I really want to stress... DO NOT have your robot run on a schedule while you are not home. I've bought "poop detection" robots and such... and they just don't work yet... at least not 100%. Ask me how I know... 2 died to "poop" incidents. Now to answer your question, I have had many robots for carpets and floors, and so far Roborock seems to be the way to go... price, maintenance, and performance are all pretty good. I personally have the Roborock Q5 Max+, and I rarely have to touch it(no tangles in the brush!)... that being said, it does not have a mop. Side note: Mopping is very hit and miss. I personally just mop myself currently... but based on all the reviews... it may do 70% of a human job. My plan for this year(black friday) is to get another Roborock vacuum... Based on my research for the past month or so, **Roborock Qrevo S5V** or **Roborock Qrevo Pro** seems to be the way to go for a mid-tier/high-tier robot. Stay away from brush rollers; stick to the spinning type. Don't get sucked into the top-tier robots; they are experimental and will eventually trickle down to mid-tier robots. Keep in mind that while these robots are lifesavers, they are still "early tech"... AND they are very aggressive with the influencer space. If there is an affiliate link, don't trust the review. I'm in no way affiliated or anything, just based on my 1.5-year experience with my Roborock and other robots. I plan on getting a **Roborock Qrevo Pro** at black friday this year unless something else comes up

iRobot is easily 2x the price of a comparable Roborock unit and with worse software. I owned one for years and the software took a nosedive when they were looking to sell out to Amazon. Went with the Roborock Q5 Max a few years back and never looked back. A comparable using to the $350 Roborock from iRobot is easily $700 which IMO is too much for a simple robot vacuum.

I just got a roborock q5 dual rollers, “used like new” on amazon (it was in brand new condition) for like $240. It’s a vacuum only. I have four dogs (cattle dogs and labs) and two cats (one long hair) so I was sweeping and vacuuming every day. It was exhausting. Just got the roborock two weeks ago and it is the BEST money I’ve ever spent! It has a super big dustbin, self empties, dog hair never gets stuck or tangled, works great on rugs and hardwood and has so many different speeds. The app is easy to navigate too. I love it so much!

Honestly i don't notice it so much anymore, i think that part is about as loud as a normal vacuum is during operation.  I had a piece of paper clog the vent the other week and that sound was horrible. But the app caught the problem and told me how to fix it which was nice. Easy solution.

A lot of robots have really good anti-tangle solutions now. If you want a vacuum only robot, the Dyson VisNav will be the best vacuum but a bad robot. The Roborock Q5 Max+ or the Q8 Max+ is recommended as it strikes a good spot between fur pickup and good navigation. For combo robots, the cheapest one that deals with fur, pet poop, rugs, and mops well is the dreame L40 Ultra at 399 USD.

I just got a Roborock and LOVE IT. I have four dogs and two cats (two cattle dog, two labs, one long hair cat so non stop shedding - I had to vacuum and sweep every day) and this thing has changed my life. We have mostly hardwood floors and one carpet but it doesn’t struggle at all on the rug and has smooth transitions onto each. Hair never gets tangled. It’s self emptying and has great battery life. It takes a little over two hours for it to vacuum my house and it doesn’t ever drop below 40% battery. I can’t believe I waited this long to get it. I was like the OP for years, just always overwhelmed with the hair no matter how much I cleaned! We had a roomba years ago and it does not compare to the roborock. OP I got a “used like new” Roborock q5 with dual rollers (large dustbin capacity) on amazon so I saved a wee bit of money that way. Best investment ever.

I’m hesitant to compare to the S7, because I don’t know what that has. In terms of cutting edge technology, Roborock has some crazy new things coming—like one with a robot arm that will pick up and move objects in the way. And it will raise itself up over transitions, like to a carpet. The Saros10 model came out in the past year and is supposed to be fantastic—at $1200 to $1600. I’m just saying that for $179, the Q8 is better than what I have. There are 2 rubber rollers on the bottom (rather than one), and it’s great for dust & pet hair. The phone app is easier to use and edit. I’ve had no problems with docking or finding the dock. And the small-area-clean button works great, which my Q5 didn’t have.

Maybe a refurbished roomba for carpets but navigation is an option. A roborock would be better at navigation. The Q5 Pro with no autoempty station would be better at not disturbing people if it will autoempty during working hours but the Q8 Max+ or the Q5 Max+ can be considered if you’d like one with an autoempty station.

Don't spend $1000 on one, go for one around $350-$400 with an auto emptying dock. Roborock is my favorite. You'll get 99% the same features and function as the $1k one, and if you like it then you can get a second one and still be under $1k!

I have hardwood and the same model vacuum and do see little bits it left occasionally, but it does roughly as well as my prior eufy. Maybe you didn’t clean the filter often enough? (every 2 weeks is recommended). If you don’t clean that thing airflow can get restricted fast. Anyway since you ran into dog poop, the only models I remember from my research being good at avoiding that were roombas.

I’d recommend robots with an autoempty station so most of the maintenance will be replacing the dustbag, tapping the dust out of the filter, and cleaning the robot once in a while. A lot of vacuum only robots with an autoempty base station will be fit in this budget! A popular choice is the Roborock Q5 Max+ or the Roborock Q8 Max+. Combo models will need more care ( you’d also have to refill the clean water tank, emptying the dirty water tank, cleaning the water tanks, and the mop pad cleaning tray). Some have completely removable mop pad cleaning trays which make it more physically accessible to clean. Some other ones don’t. For combo models, the recent sales and discounts have made the Dreame L40 Ultra (438.99*-599) or the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra (599) will be the best priced model given all the self cleaning features it has. I believe both models have a pet mode where it purposely tries to be quieter when it sees pets (dogs and cats alike). It’s cheapest to find the dreame L40 Ultra with the anti-tangle TriCut brush at the dreame physical store which accepts orders placed over phone or email. I recommend these models mainly because the mop pad cleaning tray has wipers that will redirect dirt to the drainage area, reducing the need to clean the area. Unfortunately, the mop pad cleaning tray isn’t completely removable (the base in contact with the water is not removable). Here’s a video on how the mop pad cleaning tray is cleaned. https://youtu.be/kSoxaozdtkU The roborock qrevo models have a completely removable mop tray which makes it easier to clean compared to the Dreame or roborock models. However, I haven’t found a roborock qrevo model at a price as low as the Dreame and MOVA models. The Qrevo QV 35A ($599.99) does have an anti-tangle side brush but no mop pad cleaning tray self cleaning and the lack of an RGB camera means the price isn’t as worth as the other models :( Here’s a video of how maintenance will look for the QRevo models: https://youtu.be/f0NzG5ANyEc Maintenance tips and tricks: For maintenance, please tap the dust out of the filter once every few cleaning tasks or whatever is most convenient for you guys. Mud will build up in the brush compartment of combo models if you set your robot to vacuum and mop at the same time, making cleaning the brush area more often. so I recommend asking it to vacuum first then mop so the need to clean the brush compartment will be less often. Combo robots require the base station’s mop pad cleaning tray to be cleaned once every two weeks or so (I suggest leaving it alone and finding the ideal frequency for you). In my use, squeegee based self-cleaning mop pad cleaning trays will mean fur catches on the wipers and the nubs which happens with most friction based cleaning methods. I use a pet safe robot mop compatible detergent in the clean water tank at a ratio of 1:100. Bissell’s spinwave compatible multisurface cleaner is my favorite. I also use a silver ion module in the clean water tank to prevent gross stuff from building up in it. I use a deodorization and disinfectant module in my dirty water tank to help with the smell (it should be emptied as soon as the robot finishes cleaning and cleaning its mops). You’ll have to scrub down this dirty water tank every once in a while too. I run my combo robot twice a day which means I have to refill and empty my tanks once every two days or so. No smell or anything.

The best vacuum is the one you’ll use. We have a Roborock Q5 Max+ and a Sebo E3. It’s without question that the Sebo is better built, more reliable, cleans better, etc. But as a father of two very young children and someone who works long hours, and does not want to spend my very little free time cleaning, I’d chose the Roborock because it’s the one that vacuums my house every day without my input. It’s unfortunate, but the Sebo does me no good sitting in my closet.
