I have one of these that I use vertically with my Mac Mini at work. https://us.espres.so/products/espresso-pro I’ve seen random brands on Amazon as small as 12.5”, though I can’t speak to the quality.

Been using an espresso Display for over a year now and it's great - seems like one of the best options for Mac

i tested both for photo work on mac. the espresso has noticeably better color accuracy out of the box - closer to the ipad pro's p3 coverage. the sotsu is slightly brighter but the coating is more aggressive which makes it look less sharp next to a macbook screen. both beat the cheap amazon ones by a mile though. if screen matching matters most, espresso edges it. asus also makes the zencreen series which sits in between these two price wise and holds up well color wise.

If screen quality matters, Espresso is usually praised for color and build, but you might also want to check options from LG like the StanbyME line, not as ultra-thin, but the display quality and versatility can be surprisingly great for work, media, and travel setups. It's great for working moms like me who needs reliable screen quality on the go,

Depends on the monitor. I have a couple that do, but my favorite is my espresso display. https://www.reddit.com/r/macmini/s/rmWRxtwwhI

I've had an espresso for 2 years now. Great monitor, super light weight. Have taken it traveling and used it as a second monitor. It primarily sits on my desk as a third monitor. The magnetic stand doesn't work very well. The monitor will slide down the magnet mount if the angle is too vertical. The stand itself will collapse in on itself if not positioned at the right angle. Those are the only things I find annoying about it, but it's a great portable monitor. Basically like carrying a large iPad.

Yeah the concept of multiple screens with your laptop is def worth the investment. But I'm not always so sure about those laptop wing attachment concepts. I used one and it nearly broke the hinge of my laptop screen as there was a lot of weight on the back. I'd actually recommend going with a standalone portable monitor instead - way more flexibility and you're not putting stress on your laptop. I use an espresso Display for the ergonomic angle of putting it above my laptop, but there are other options available too. What kind of work are you doing that's making you consider the second screen? That might help narrow down if its worth it for your specific use case.

I use an espresso Display with the ergonomic stand. I like it! I use the one that isn't touch screen but they also have ones which are touchscreen for documents. Not sure about the rest of them though!

It's a cool form factor. I've been thinking of getting one of these just for ChatGPT usage. It isn't on that small size form, but the touchscreen on espresso Displays is pretty good for a monitor once you install their driver.

Yeah I used to work like you in that exact way. Biggest hack I found was an ergonomic portable monitor which can sit above your laptop. The brand I have is espresso Displays and it has a magnetic stand. But yes, I've found so many of my workflows require looking at two apps / websites / platforms at once. Or if something is going on in Microsoft teams, having that open whilst doing my work lets me keep up to date. I stopped using my laptop as a media player (Spotify etc.) and just connect with my phone to make my laptop just about work. I could work without a mouse, without an external keyboard. But just a laptop screen would typically find issues with productivity --> or more just ease of work. I hate when it feels more difficult when necessary. For neck strain - a laptop riser or a monitor above laptop. At my main desk a large desktop monitor, 1x 32" screen. Adjustable stand up desk.
