MiniRigs hands down. Listening to them now. Always an amazing experience. Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $150 and get yourself the 2.1 setup with the sub. You will not regret it one bit.

I love the sound profile of the Minirigs myself. 2 x Minirig 3s in stereo and I'm all good.  I'd say every portable speaker is going to have some compromises though. So your best sounding speaker will depend what kind of music you most enjoy listening to...

The downvotes are always cause the Minirigs are fiddly. Mine are too. That's why I hesitate to recommend them to people.  They are the best sound I've heard in bluetooth speakers though - not to mention sick af in design aesthetic. ?? After using Minirigs for the better part of 4 years I've got a system that makes them solid enough for me now... but still, I wouldn't begrudge anybody for downvoting a suggestion to use Minirigs because there's a decent chance they've had their own horrible experience with them!

MINIRIG is the smallest powerhouse I know of, can go crazy loud. The best thing is that this power capacity means the sound is super clean at decent volume (maybe 40 - 50%)

Youd be crazy to use them as monitors. Perhaps some people don't understand what monitors are actually used for. Minirigs do not play deep, are not flat and sound changes depending on orientation. Probably the same people claiming the uboom l is flat and neutral lol

Thats because they aren't professionals (i assume) and just accept anything they hear on youtube. Monitors in the wrong setting can sound awful. However the minirigs are not monitors. They resolve well however and suit a discerning ear. Just don't use them as monitors or your mix will be crap.

I think the minirig has the highest decibels to size ratio you can get, not sure how long the battery will last if you’re using it on a higher volume level though. I have two minirig 3s and they are incredibly impressive speakers

It’s honestly hard to grasp how loud it can get given its size, it doesn’t look like it should be able to get anywhere near as loud as it can. I’m not sure about specific model comparisons, but it is louder and maintains better sound quality than many of its larger competitors. They aren’t cheap, but if budget isn’t an issue you can get two and pair them together, and even get a subwoofer to have a whole 2.1 system that stays fairly portable with the right carrying setup

I got 2 minirigs to do the sound for my outdoor wedding. They are awesome and I still use them daily 2 years later. They have a “gain” setting built into the single button you use to power them on so sometimes when they start up they are incredibly loud but other than that the minirigs are very good and I used to use an Anker Soundcore in the past.

There’s only 2 real portable options with no lag. The minirig series or the Blueant x-3d. All the new JBL series basically has some form of lag built in so you’re basically screwed.

And FFS. We know the mini rig is Superior to pretty much anything. The reason it's a non-viable recommendation is because it's out of most people's price range.

I’m a big clarity fan and also have bilateral tinnitus. The last speaker I got was really bass heavy, which was ok for certain types of music, but it was horrible for podcasts which I listen to a lot. I’ve got a Minirig system now, I can turn the bass down for spoken content, and they offer very good fidelity for a portable speaker, you could ad another at a later date for a stereo pair

Heard from a couple of sources that the Earfun Boom I is pretty good IF you tune the settings. Check Alan Ross Reviews on YouTube or here: https://canadianomad.com/best-portable-bluetooth-party-speakers-battery-powered/#Soundboks_gen_3_%E2%80%93_Most_well-rounded_powerful_battery_powered_speaker Remember though, if you’re going for ultraportable DJing then really one of the major things you’re fighting is that physics really isn’t on your side. You can only push so much air about with a small speaker, and they almost invariably sound muddy when you get to high volumes. If it sounds shit, people will feel fatigued quicker, and will lose dancing energy. It’s just one of those things. Since as a DJ your main concern is often getting people to dance, or at least enjoy music, then you should be absolutely concerned about this. And as I said, for ultraportable DJing this is a bigger thing as you’re necessarily doing it with smaller equipment which doesn’t have the same headroom thanks to *physics*. I’d generally recommend you go for minirigs. They’re more expensive, I know. But it’s a one time purchase, and they are the best you can get. Anyway, I’m curious - what’s the rest of your setup look like (or planned to be)? Mine’s 4x minirig 3s, 2x Minirig Sub 3, iPhone 12 or iPad Air, djay pro, numark dj2go2 if using the iPad, apelab apecoins for lighting. But thinking I might swap to the new Hercules one as it would allow me to go fully on to the iPhone.

Hello, You can add 2 latencies in bluetooth speakers: 1) bluetooth latency Latency depends on the bluetooth audio codec. The lowest latency speakers decode bluetooth aptx (or variants as aptX HD, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless), with 40ms latency. Using aptX codec requires a source (Intel AX210 card) capable to send aptx bluetooth. Intel AX210 board is capable to send an aptX bluetooth signal, but you may have to install the aptX codec. 2) DSP in the speakers Compact bluetooth speakers often include a DSP to enhance the sound, which adds latency. => A solution of low latency aptx speakers are Minirig 3 / Minirig 4 speakers: they have no DSP (because they are super powerful) and they are aptx.

I went for a Minirig set up. Not cheap, but zero latency with aux, insane battery life and they do a portable sub. The 2.1 set up slaps.

How much is your budget? If you really need to go cheap, Anker is a pretty decent brand and very good reputation. I have the MINIRIG and it bumps. Pricey little guy though, but man it’s worth it. For pocket operators though you’re gonna wanna use direct line in. You’re gonna get bad latency with Bluetooth. Pretty much terrible for producing.

Maybe I'm just a broke bitch who assumes that everybody else is a broke bitch because I never recommend the mini rig due to its obtusely inhibiting cost. After all three pieces aren't you looking at like just under 500 bucks or so? Even if I had that to spare, I don't think I could allow myself to spend that much on a... yeah, fuck yeah, I could.

Depends on the speaker. Some of the delay is caused by Bluetooth, and some by the DSP (signal processing) - aux will bypass the Bluetooth, but not necessarily the DSP. Some speakers have minimal-to-zero lag on the aux (Minirig, Tribit Stormbox Blast) and some still have significant. For example I believe some of the JBL PartyBoxes have lag on the aux in but not on the daisychain as that bypasses the DSP :)

I don't know the exact specs but IMO they're pretty grunty and can easily fill a small room on high gain. I have the 3s but see they've just released 4s that are even more powerful. I used to chuck one in the compartment between the front and passenger seats and it was great for podcasts and music with a clear and transparent mid/high end - but ofc a lot of the low end was lost this way. HOWEVER, add a sub directly under the driver's seat and the sound is full and MEATY. My current setup is a rig mounted on each side of the car and the sub under my seat - saved me from installing an actual system. You can also EQ/change the gain of each individual speaker with the app. The only slightly tricky thing here is connectivity. You can bluetooth the two rigs, but the sub has to be plugged in via aux. So rig 1 - bluetooth - rig 2 - aux - sub. This should be pretty simple using the app - which in theory remembers your connection settings and reboots the speakers when you re-open it, but as you can only initially connect via bluetooth when the aux port is clear, I've had to faff around with getting the two rigs to talk to one another a few times, I assume because the app has forgotten the previous configuration. Luckily the app actually offers has those configuration options on startup so it's never been difficult to fix.

Minirigs are the GOAT imo. Absolutely no latency over AUX and very low latency over Bluetooth. Insane battery life, very sturdy build quality and come with their own cases for portability. You can buy several and rig them together over aux or Bluetooth for stereo playback, and they even have a portable sub that goes down to I think 35hz. The bass on the regular speakers is perfectly adequate for anything that doesn’t rely on sub bass e.g. dubstep. The sound quality in general is incredibly clear and blows most other portable speakers I’ve used out of the water. They’re a great company too. I had an issue with one and sent it back - customer service was responsive, they paid for the shipping and made the whole process about as quick and easy as it could’ve been. I have two tweeters and the sub and they’ve been an amazing investment for live performance in off-stage situations. They’re pricey but will last far, far longer than your average UE BOOM-style speaker.
