Midea - Duo 10,000 BTU DOE Portable Air Conditioner with Smart Inverter (MAP12S1TBL)

I paid $450 for it. It's been running throughout the day in 90F degree. Able to keep my room (110sqft) steady at 75F. Electricity average around $2/day. Worth it.

Midea. It’s awesome! Expensive but portable and awesome.

Kamarku panas bgt dan dulu dibeliin ac portable karena aku nggak tidur d rumah tiap hari. Dulu pakai Midea, entah yg varian apa. Kamarku 4x4. Gak berasa sama sekali, berisik, pembuangan angin panasnya juga aneh pokoknya. Karena berisik banget dan gak berasa apa-apa, semunggu kemudian aku pensiunkan AC itu dan pilih pakai kipas meja cosmos 200rb an. Sekarang itu ac portable dipakai kalau ada tamu nginep pas lebaran doang. Itupun ternyata tamunya juga pada gamau pakai. Selalu dimatiin sama mereka ?? Kalau bukan AC proper, mending pakai kipas angin aja. AC potrable jelek.

Personally the get the Midea Duo from Costco. it's got a dual hose design and it's a heat pump. We use 2 for a dual level house we rent and it does great to cover the whole house. Hottest period of summer it adds about $100-$120 to the bill, red of he time it adds about $20-50 to the bill. You just put it in the window fill with foam. Nothing hangs out, easy to drain at end of summer. Git it the year after the super hot 100 degree summer.

Midea has a great unit. Bought mine last year from Costco online for delivery.

Even the Midea dual hose units have this issue, just to a lesser degree. They are NOT sealed all that well and have gaps everywhere. The best way to mitigate this issue is to restrict the air outlet with a filter, reducing the pressure differential and hopefully creating a slight positive pressure

Except I’ve barely heard any of these alternatives be mentioned and online reviews are mixed at best. The Midea option looks to be the best of the bunch and not look like a 70’s relic at the same time. It was at one point more reasonably priced too.

Ours from ALDI is loud and weak. I set up a Midea unit for a friend and that is a beast! I was amazed.

Grab a dual hose one like the 3.3Kw Midea Duo Smart Inverter portable. If your region doesn’t have dual hose units, you can always try and convert it by laying a ducted box over the condenser coils.

If you can buy Midea Duo PAC which is a dual hose portable ac definitely worth it. If not you can get an Electrolux(AEG) one and make it simply dual hose with a 3D printed back side. Split ACs are simply unbeatable. They could be also used for heating too. But the installation costs etc are not small in UK I believe. Mitsubishi, Daikin, Midea are great for split ACs. You can also dehumidify your house with ACs. I am not living in UK but I'm a renter so I have a PAC in my bed room but luckily my living room had a split AC. We have very bad humidity in the summer

Bad news for me is my Midea U-shaped in-window AC is on the recall list. I bought it a year ago at Costco on sale for around $300. I assume even if I might get a full refund, I probably won’t be able to get a new one with the same 12k BTU for $300, which makes me so angry. Anyway, we just bought the exact same portable model as you, but for $499 at Costco in the Seattle area. You got such a good deal. Anyway, I love this AC unit, it’s amazing! It’s currently 73 degrees inside the room where we put it, but it’s 84 degrees outside the house. It could be even colder in here (the machine is capable of that), but we don’t want to feel too cold, LOL. Every summer until now, I have suffered so much (the heat makes my health issue temporarily much worse, until the air cools down). I really hope this one won’t be recalled in the future. 

I have it in my living room right now with vaulted ceilings. Keeps it 72 at 100 degrees outside so far

The Midea can pull 1200W easily when it's cooling the flat down on boost mode. Normally it's running around 300-500W when keeping the temperature stable. 24° 65m2.

Dual or concentric hose models are the best bet. Inverter is good for noise. I have a midea inverter, with concentric hose that is great

C’est horrible ça, je viens d’installer une clim midea 12k chez moi. Je croyais que ça va résoudre tout mes problèmes. Et mtn j’ai un nouveau soucis, comment fonctionner cette clim dans mon appart Apres avoir investi : clim + kit fenêtres + insulation tuyaux + insulation des fenêtres et portes= 650 700 euros. Et mtn j’ai un système ne baisse pas la température assez, fait rentrer de la poussière et odeur l’air rentre de partout. horrible, je suis tjs dans les 30 jours de retour mais je trouve pas un double tuyau.

Ich hatte mal was gefunden vor nem Jahr. Hat damals knapp 2000 € gekostet und sah scheisse aus. Deshalb wurds halt dieses Jahr die Midea. Kan ich ja nix für dass die Europäer mal wieder pennen.

I have a Midea unit and I know exactly what you're talking about. There is a small gap from the bottom chamber to the top chamber, and due to the pressure difference, the airflow reverses in that region. I opened up the unit and sealed it with foam to remove this problem. These things are not sealed very well and have gaps everywhere. There's also gaps on the bottom of the unit and around the drain hoses. The evaporator is also not completely separated from the condenser on the inside, so even if you seal all the exterior leaks, there is still some inefficiency.

You’re not doing anything wrong..portable ACs are mold traps by design. Sitting all winter with leftover moisture = fungus party. Run it on fan mode before storage to dry it out. As for brands, try Whynter or Midea dual-hose. They’re slightly easier to clean. Or go mini split and never look back.

I have this to cool my living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are no doors between these rooms so it works great. Each bedroom has the midea U (except for the 4 year old, she just gets an el cheapo unit that only runs for a couple hours at bedtime)

I got a dual hose Midea portable AC from Canadian tire two years ago. It’s a damn beast and cools my entire living room / kitchen. They are pricey, I got mine on sale but that’s my recommendation.

YSK about these things: in general they're not the most efficient choice. (I know you may be stuck with this, but here's the tech.) The whole works sits inside the room, including the "hot side" of the mechanism (compressor, heat radiating coils etc.) That heat ends up radiating into the room, so you're recooling the heat the unit creates. (That's why window a/c's put the hot side outdoors.) There's also two kinds, single-hose and double-hose. Single-hose pulls air from the room, cools it, and blows the hot air outdoors, so part of the room air you've just cooled gets dumped outside. Dual-hose pulls air from the outside to cool the compressor and heat coils then dumps it outdoors, and a separate airflow pulls air from the room, cools it and blows back in the room. Finally, almost all of these have to be drained of condensate, although some evaporate the water and blow it outside with the hot air. I did a f/kton of research, and you might consider the Midea dual-hose models. They use a variable speed DC inverter-compressor which only runs as fast as it needs to, also quieter than most. As has been said here, not the cheapest but may be worth it in the longer run.

For 1 room its good. Don't get ambitious tho. That thing don't do shit in a living room.

The best all-around RV portable AC is the Midea Duo. It’s efficient, quiet, and cools small RVs fast.

You can run a portable like the one you shared but it's not going to work as well as you think. You need an air conditioner that both pulls air from and exhaust air to the outside. That unit you're looking at only expels hot air outside. Which means you're going to be sucking in air through all the crevices in the vehicle, around the doors and windows and wherever else while you're also trying to cool down inside. Midea makes one that is more what you should use if you insist on the portable AC.

I have that same unit and have been happy with it. I had read it was big, but it still surprised me when I got it how big it really was, so be prepared for that.

Not at all. I still have the Friedrich in my bedroom. It works well as a white noise machine. Maybe *too* well. I managed to get it hooked up to an electric pump that drains out my window, so at least I don't have to drain it anymore. But, of course, it's still loud. For my office, I ended up with a Midea MAP12S1TBL. It's much quieter, but like any portable AC, it's still louder than, say, a window unit. I haven't had to drain it since I got it; apparently it uses some kind of evaporation technology or yada yada. Aside from the white noise you'd expect from an AC, it occasionally makes a sound that I can only describe as "a pump without enough water to *completely* fill the tube," which isn't terrible, but still worth noting. And when I turn on a guitar amp, there's (occasionally) a strange whine/whistle that I've traced back to the AC being on. I haven't noticed it affecting my computer's microphone. If you *must* get a portable AC, you could do worse than the Midea. I'm satisfied with mine.
