r/huntingtonbeach →I have 2 portable LG units now (the Dual Inverter 10,000/14,000 BTU Model), both work pretty well. However both pretty much max out the 15amp circuit I had in that appartment and are a bit pricy per unit of cooling. If either of those issues are a problem I would instead grab whichever Hisense or Midea model Costco has this year. They will be $200-250 cheaper than the LGs I have (the 'deal' price at Costco should be <$450) and the brand reputation may be worse but Costco will cover any issues with a return/replacement. Hopefully they have a single hose this year!
r/SeattleWA →Hi there, As we near the summer and the looming threat of a very hot year becomes a reality, I would like to upgrade my current AC set up for my living room in my condo. I currently have a terrible single hose portable AC from the previous owner. Some important information: * The windows were made to be sound-proofed and only open outwardly/vertically * The previous owner had circular holes cut into the wall of each room where the portable AC unit plugs into. It works fine in the bedrooms but not so well in the living room (\~550 sq. feet). I can't vent it through the windows due to the outward-opening style * My HOA won't allow window units and they probably wouldn't work anyways for my type of windows * I don't think a double-hose unit would work because I just have the one circular hole in the wall. Would I need to cut another hole in the wall for this? I'd really appreciate any advice on what could be good for my situation!

However, worth noting on the duo that even on constant fan, it can lower the fan speed. And because the Midea duo is so quiet, at low fan speed it is almost inaudible. The dual inverter, on the other hand, will keep the fan on whatever speed you select, And because the compressor ramps up so gradually, it's an extremely smooth transition between compressor off and compressor on.

r/RVLiving • Does anyone use a portable AC instead of the AC mounted in the ceiling? ->I have two LG AC units. One is in the window of my main shared space and would fall onto the balcony if it fell out the window. It's a 14k BTU unit. It works very well. I also have a portable double inverter unit at 12k BTU inside our bedroom and it's got a hose that blows out the window and we've had to lock down the window portion around the hose. The hose is also supposed to be sticking outside a bit, like an inch past the window so it ensures ventilation of hot air outwards and away. This unit is fantastic and cools down the bedroom to a chill. I cannot have a window unit in the bedroom as it can fall outwards and so only a portable is permitted in rooms with windows that do not fall onto balconies.

Which you should because heat pumps are so much better than a portable AC, but sometimes you don't have that option (because laws or because you're renting) and then this is by far the best unit you can get if you want to be in the same room.

if you don't mind the price, search the LG 14,000 BTU portable AC. I've had two, and both were great. I mean, great. My apartment has a condition where it stores all of the city's hot air, and internally reaches 97 degrees come august/september. This unit churns out a cool room in an hour or 2 starting with that high temp, and my 20 ft ceilings. If you have a better starting place than that, chances are it will turn any room you have into an icebox.

Although it does put out maximum 8000btu the heat it generates and the inefficient single hose make it equivalent to a 5000 Btu window unit. You should get an inverter unit like the lg 1419ivsm which is 14,000 Btu ashrae and equivalent to a 10,000 Btu window unit.

r/AirConditioners • Are all stand up a/c units junk? ->Same unit. It's louder than I'd like but it does the job in our bedroom with minimal fuss. Have a similar dual hose unit from LG in the main room and it doesn't cool the entire space, but can certainly reduce the temp by 3-4 degrees and take the edge off. If you can't get a window unit, you're not SOL anymore.

That's a hard question to answer. Portable AC's in North America are limited to ~10,000 BTU DOE/SACC by the standard 120V 12A (80% utilization of a 15A circuit) electrical circuit that can feed them. The factors that affect how much they can cool your room depend on: - Room size - Room Insulation - Room solar heat gain (IE how much sun is blasting into the room and heating it up). If you have a dark exterior house colour your solar heat gain will be far greater as well. - Heat producing appliances/electronics within room. Before I went to a central ducted heat pump I used a single hose portable AC (LG 10,000 DOE/SACC). It was enough to cool my 14'x14' south facing living room to ~24-25C while it was 30 outside, but it was pretty much running constantly at full speed to get there, and very noisy. It had hardly any effect on the rest of the house.

Eu já passei por esse dilema e a melhor solução que encontrei foi com AC Portátil LG Dual Inverter 11000 btu's, classe A+, com kit de janela que por acaso até é bem prático. O negativo é o que por exemplo, já tive meses em que esteve praticamente ligado o mês inteiro... E a conta da luz no fim quase duplicou. Mas fica a casa inteira com uma temperatura de 22 a 24°C. Até ter esta solução, gastei mais de 250€ em ventoinhas, colunas de ar, purificadores, etc.. Agora estão todos arrumados.
