Depends on your definition of portable. I picked up an 8000BTU portable room unit from Costco and recently tested it. 2 hoses, inverter compressor. In direct TN sun, 82 degrees outside temp, inside in the mid 90s, it was able after an hour to get interior temp to 81 degrees with all windows covers in place and decent insulation (2 layers thinsulate). After a few hours, in direct sun the interior temp was 79 (thermostat set at 74). So it works hard handling direct sun. But I bought it for drying out and cooling the van for sleeping at night, and there it does fine. At 4pm the interior was at 76 degrees, and it got to set temp a little later. It runs between 860-1100 watts, so definitely will need shore power when in use. I haven't tried isolating a smaller space in my van (heavy curtains), but I'm sure it would do better if I used it to cool just the sleeping area. I note that it is important to wrap the exhaust hose in an insulating sleeve, as it gets HOT. I paid $349 for the AC, it is on sale at Costco right now through June 15 for $279. I've seen that the new DC roof AC units have pretty low power draw and no inverter overhead, but I mostly chase 70 degrees, and I don't want to give up roof space. I'll bring along the portable AC unit when it's going to be warmer, I have shore power, and I want to cool off van at night for sleeping.
r/VanLife • Portable AC? ->Been using the Hisense portable inverter ac from Costco and its super quiet and keeps our office perfect temp. It gets direct sun from about 1pm till dusk so the ac is a lifesaver. The dual hose design keeps the suction effect down and the quiet mode is almost dead silent, air purifier is louder.
r/irvine • For those who live without AC, how do you cool off? ->I bought a hisense dual hose from costco. It may not be as efficient as a window unit but so easy to install and overall does a great job
r/AirConditioners • Has anyone tried this AC from Costco ->So, I have one of these cooling a small room I stay in a couple weeks a month out in Arkansas. It worked relatively well for the first year. This year has been a different story. First it wasn't cooling as effectively as last year. I check the filter on the back regularly but that wasn't the issue. It's the heat exchanger down inside the machine that the outside air is drawn through in order to cool the air inside. There is no filter for the incoming air. It just goes down the tube and right through the exchanger. The only way to properly clean it is to disassemble the entire machine. This leads to my second problem. The blower fan is impossible to clean unless you open the entire machine up and do some major surgery. Mine had mold and other fun looking bits on it from the humid air out in Arkansas. I had to take the entire shell off, remove a good amount of the ducting, and disassemble the fans motor attachment to be able to clean it. It would be easier to clean the blower if the screen was removable that protects it but you cant remove the screen without once again disassembling the entire machine. Sorry. Long rant. I like mine for the most part but the lack of accessibility to clean parts that should be user cleanable makes me angry.

Have both of these... The 8k Hisense has a quiet mode that slows down the fan. If your room is borderline too big for 8k it may not be able to keep temp in this mode but it is genuinely quiet. The 12k Midea does not have this mode. In addition, when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up.
r/Costco • Comparing the Midea vs Hisense portable AC units? ->Do you have a budget? I use this one from Amazon: [Hisense Portable AC](https://www.amazon.com/Hisense-Portable-Conditioner-ConnectLife-operating/dp/B0D94WL44L?crid=10GXI35XF1ZVH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.2o_IlhZvKolrvZj_Y0tXFykuhUQGeoGiUANkwKIqxzJ_LwgLQUhsZYxe63dgfATDQ5CMDzkOcXAY9XjQrpn6tauXaHFlekymsAWWLBzzS7vMhGXETq28kgNbnhzh-vu-kmWn6B7VzwTJPRWyZcsDylLKxwlcn8QGl1V_h8N9aMCCSRNh-w9iTNYesJPv21may2NmhefHjshI1Yf2SAPl4eiLQl6jBGCl_SgeCqsaDdc.CSA8Mtdn3Sp0P6tkn6hp_6Ng1i0WfzXZx-ftbn6LH6I&dib_tag=se&keywords=portable+ac+2+hose&qid=1744156701&sprefix=portable+ac+2+h%2Caps%2C175&sr=8-6) and it ran me for about $300. (It's renewed, but mine came looking like it was new.) I think it's pretty energy efficient for an A/C and it really cools down the room. And it gets chilly (and pretty quiet). When looking for portable A/C's, look for the ones with dual exhuast hoses. Those are much better at cooling down rooms and being efficient compared to the ones with only one. The one I linked has two hoses and it has been great.
r/Fremont • Portable Air Conditioning advice ->Just chiming in on portable ACs - picked up a Hisense dual hose from Costco last summer for our 10x12 room. Works great for nighttime (9pm to 6am) use and it's not too loud. Only saw about a $1/day bump on the PG&E bill. Night and day difference compared to our window unit (other room) that's loud AF and makes our electric bill cry. Lol
r/Fremont • Portable Air Conditioning advice ->I have it to cool about a 350 sq ft space, in high humidity environment-using it about 2 months on 77 degrees farenheight at lowest (outside temps 90-100 degrees). It is a room I do not really use now, but want to keep cool; because room radiates alot of heat through large glass doors. I never use it on dehumidify, because I do not want to hassel with draining it (not had to on a/c mode-also read heat pump mode could require more draining - so I got a/c only model ) I also cut out insulation board to reinforce plastic window hose mount, matching size of needed plastic window hose mount; taped together with aluminum tape. It is only 8k btu so probably won't cool very large space, depending on insulation, and ambient temps. Also, must insulate hot side exhaust hose for better efficiency (get flexible cover on Amazon ; not the stiff ones); or wrap with some type of insulation. This is inverter model, so I do not know how much it will vibrate, when compressor revs down to save energy-may need to place on mat to subdue vibration-especially on bare floors. One thing about the in window placed single inverter units (talkin about different models that actually place inside open window) that I did not know about was the vibration caused by the compressor reving down, and causing low frequency vibration-travels through widow and even walls. In this respect, this portable A/C is probably better, because much easier to stop vibration, by simply placing portable unit on a thick mat.
r/AirConditioners • Has anyone tried this AC from Costco ->Costco has a Hisense 8k dual hose unit with inverter. I just bought one so I don't have a long term review of it yet but it's worked well in the minimal testing I've done.
r/SeattleWA • One Portable AC Unit Vs 2 Portable AC Units ->I was planning on getting the Hisense dual hose ac from Costco, but I am worried that 8000 btu (up to 350 square feet) would be overkill for the bedroom which is about 158 square feet
r/hvacadvice • View on Reddit →I just got this one to replace an old one that broke. Its definitely more powerful AND more quiet but frankly I hate it. Its two-tubes-in-one is way more difficult to use than a standard two-tube unit. The tube is short and less bendable and the plastic snaps that hold it into the window plate are cheap and one of mine broke trying to maneuver it into position. Not to mention you have to fit an adapter on to put it in a window that opens horizontally, more cheap plastic to break. I only have an AC set up 3 months out of the year and I'm really worried taking this thing down and putting it back up next year will break more of the plastic. Other than that its a good unit. I did have to get an extension cord for it because the old unit blew out the wall outlet by the window. But i got a heavy duty 12 gauge one that was as short as I could find, 25', and it seems to be working well.

r/Costco • View on Reddit →Costco has a an 8k BTU hisense inverter dual tube for $270-ish depending on location or online order as well as a 12k (14k actual) BTU midea duo in white for $380. They also have an incredibly lenient return policy compared to Amazon or really most any other retailer. I wouldn't do a refurb unit only because of the short warranty/exchange period.
r/hvacadvice • View on Reddit →This is exactly what we do too. No point blasting the hvac in the entire house when the only room we want really cold is the bedroom. Has saved us a lot on the energy bill!
r/Costco • View on Reddit →I got a Hisense 8000 BTU Inverter style portable AC from Costco a couple months ago. Has a remote. Uses two tubes for venting. I tested it out cooling my main BR. I run it off a large Pecron Power Station. The one shown in the link has both heating and cooling. Mine was cooling only, but otherwise is the same unit. Works perfectly. My strong advice is to get an INVERTER style unit. r/hvacadvice • View on Reddit →I have a dual hose hisense that I got from costco. I drain it from time to time but outside that, it doesnt really say any other maintance, there is no removable filter. sometimes it smells when it first turns on, is that something I can clean or fix?
r/AirConditioners • View on Reddit →Yeah I realized this with mine. Once its sealed to a window you basically can't move it around. I thought I'd be able to move it from room to room.
r/Costco • View on Reddit →Use mine every night since we keep the house temp higher and get to blast this. Keeps our bedroom nice and chilly and saves electricity overall. Going strong for over a year 12+ hours a day set at 65
r/Costco • View on Reddit →For those having the same issue, I bought the "Hisense 8,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with Inverter and Wi-Fi" and it does not have this issue. I think the model I had was faulty based on comments from those who had the same model I did, but I did not want to possibly waste my time trying the Midea model again. The Hisense does make an inverter noise while cooling that is audible but it is much less high pitched than the model in the video and blends in with the fan noise even on low.
r/Costco • View on Reddit →I have 3 mini split systems in my house for this very reason traditional hvac didnt make sense for me. I bought this exact AC OP posted for my office/Den that didnt have a mini split and this thing super pumps the cold air.
r/Costco • View on Reddit →Ours came in to save the day when PG&E did their rolling blackouts due to everyone running their AC during a heatwave. Just make sure you have a battery backup capable of running a unit!

r/Costco • View on Reddit →I have been rocking this for 2 years now as our bedroom unit since our house doesn't have AC. It has held up well all you need to do is clean the removable air filter on the back every once in a while.
r/Costco • View on Reddit →Also, I recommend this video before buying because it helped me know the basics of installing and what to expect. FWIW I'm a 48 year old overweight woman and I did it all myself in about 30-40 minutes. ["Installing a Hisense Dual Hose 8000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner"](https://youtu.be/rdpvHuNwAks?si=Uy9ufNiqBXy4721A)
r/hvacadvice • View on Reddit →I bought the regular Hisense 8,000 btu one a couple weeks ago from Costco and am happy with it. I think this one is slightly more expensive because of the tower design. But Hisense has a good reputation and it is dual hose. Costco has a great return policy. I think you should go for it.

r/ottawa • View on Reddit →Ordered! Will update after some time with it, thanks!
r/AirConditioners • View on Reddit →Mine worked great for about 2 months before the temperature gauge failed and it would cool into the 50s despite setting the temp at 70. Luckily Costco accepted the return
r/Costco • View on Reddit →I have an old house, built in 1948, still has screw-in fuses. This AC will be plugged into a receptacle rated at 15 amps. How likely am I to blow a fuse when either of these kicks in? I think the Hisense draws 12A max. no info found on the Midea yet. I am inclined to get the 8,000 btu Hisense because my bedroom is tops 230 sq ft. My whole house is only 1200 sq ft. I read another comment that the 12,000 btu Midea would be over powered for my room and the dehumidifier would not extract water properly. I live in summer-clammy Michigan, lowering the humidity for sleeping is as or more important than cooling. Thanks in advance!
r/Costco • View on Reddit →Not an HVAC tech. If you rent and can't install a window unit due to being in a tall apartment complex or just lease restrictions, consider a dual hose portable AC unit (don't bother with a single hose portable AC). Here's one I got from Amazon: [Hisense 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dual Hose & Inverter](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D94WL44L?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_JH13RR1ZBK9E44FSYMVB&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_JH13RR1ZBK9E44FSYMVB&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_JH13RR1ZBK9E44FSYMVB&csmig=1) https://preview.redd.it/t8zcf33xuoif1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3b5bd4369e7c2d3124e0c552b60191ae90de613 I bought a refurbished one (like this one pictured) for $250 and it's awesome. It's quiet. It kept our living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom cool when our main Hvac went out in our 1400'sq ft house and we couldn't get it repaired for a week because of a heat wave (HVAC workers were working overtime). I drain it every 2 weeks and-even when it's averaged 95 - 100 degrees every day-it only produced 1/2 cup of water in 2 weeks (so i really didn't have to drain it). The single hose portable a/c units have to be emptied daily usually. It has two hoses that connect to a panel that goes in your window-so be sure that it will fit your window. Also, it comes with insulation for the window but I bought some thicker foam strips for a few bucks and some HVAC tape and even bought some insulation for the hoses. However that's not necessary. Anyway... mine is amazing and we kept it in the bedroom because I hate being hot at night.
r/hvacadvice • View on Reddit →I bought one for my bedroom a couple months ago to use the central HVAC system less at night. So far no regrets, it's been super nice to NOT cool the entire house, but also have my bedroom cooler than usual for more comfort.
r/Costco • View on Reddit →I've had the one you recommended for 9 years, and it works great in my house. It DOES take a lot of energy/power, especially when the compressor starts up. Mine only has 1 hose though, and is self-evaporative, so there is no tube for water. It may be overkill for a van.
r/VanLife • View on Reddit →It is. Costco is currently selling two Hisense units that are both 8k btu (regular one and the tower) and a 12k Midea. All three are dual hose (and if you spend any time researching portable a/c's on Reddit, you will soon see that dual hose is the only acceptable option). I am only cooling a 200 sq ft room, so I opted for the 8k btu Hisense.

r/AirConditioners • View on Reddit →I have Hisense 8000sacc for bedroom and Midea 12000sacc for living room. Go with Midea. I have them both scheduled through app Midea on during day, Hisense at night with a fan period at the end of the cycle for each. Midea seems to more consistently output cold when on auto/thermostat. The Hisense does, but it ramps down noticeably more often when it hasn't yet reached target temp while in auto/thermostat mode. I also think the Midea 2 in 1 hose is more insulating to minimize the heat radiating from the center exhaust hose compared to two standard hoses with Hisense. Regarding directional flow: The Hisense vent direction is remembered during scheduled power on, the Midea doesn't seem to, I have to manually adjust it when needed or it blows more up. Neither of mine are heat pump models, ac only.
r/AirConditioners • View on Reddit →That's good to know. I have been eye [this](https://a.co/d/3aYhyGU) 8000btu unit for my van. The only problem is the windows down open wide enough to let the hose through and I don't wanna cut holes in my van if I can avoid it.
r/vandwellers • View on Reddit →>I would prefer it to be two hose with inverter compressor and dehumidifier. I picked up this 8000 BTU Hisense unit for about $200 last year - for use in emergencies. It is dual-hose inverter unit, and kept my 300 sq ft bedroom nicely cold. Because it is an inverter unit, it will operate at a lower capacity to cool your 150 sq ft room.
