I think that is the easy button. Just do it, and then don't worry about fans, leaving doors open or closed, running the living room overnight, etc. I generally hate them, but when I lived in a small apartment, I only had slider windows, so I couldn't put a normal one in, so they made summers livable. The dual hose ones are like 100 or so more, but are SO MUCH more efficient and better in every way. Midea (or some of the Midea whitelables) are probably the best brand on the market right now, but Hisense also is very good. (Hisense API0825UW1D Smart Inverter Twin Hose 8,000 BTU (DOE) 350 SF Heat/Cool Tower Portable Air Conditioner, White is on prime day sale right now). 8000 btu is perfect, but if you need to 12000 would work too, it's just little overkill so a little less efficient for your space. Make sure when you seal up the windows, you use masking take and foam (or cardboard), and also get the section where the two glass sliders pass over each other. The key is you need to make sure you can't see any light coming through the open parts of the windows.

Bought a few weeks ago. Love it. Tall but small width and length. Runs very quiet (in quiet mode) as it uses an inverter and doesn't need to run at full blast. the model I have heats also. It's massively quieter than the old Danby dual hose it replaced and is much quieter than the Whytner 14k one I had also which I gave my parents. It's perfect for the small 150 sq ft room I use it in. It was between this one and the Danby inverter quiet model they sell here in Canada at Costco and I chose this one as it is rated at 39db, a few db lower than the Danby. Also a bonus is it has Matter integration and I have it added to my Home Assistant setup!

Just chiming in on portable ACs - picked up a Hisense dual hose from Costco last summer for our 10x12 room. Works great for nighttime (9pm to 6am) use and it's not too loud. Only saw about a $1/day bump on the PG&E bill. Night and day difference compared to our window unit (other room) that's loud AF and makes our electric bill cry. Lol

Depends on your definition of portable. I picked up an 8000BTU portable room unit from Costco and recently tested it. 2 hoses, inverter compressor. In direct TN sun, 82 degrees outside temp, inside in the mid 90s, it was able after an hour to get interior temp to 81 degrees with all windows covers in place and decent insulation (2 layers thinsulate). After a few hours, in direct sun the interior temp was 79 (thermostat set at 74). So it works hard handling direct sun. But I bought it for drying out and cooling the van for sleeping at night, and there it does fine. At 4pm the interior was at 76 degrees, and it got to set temp a little later. It runs between 860-1100 watts, so definitely will need shore power when in use. I haven't tried isolating a smaller space in my van (heavy curtains), but I'm sure it would do better if I used it to cool just the sleeping area. I note that it is important to wrap the exhaust hose in an insulating sleeve, as it gets HOT. I paid $349 for the AC, it is on sale at Costco right now through June 15 for $279. I've seen that the new DC roof AC units have pretty low power draw and no inverter overhead, but I mostly chase 70 degrees, and I don't want to give up roof space. I'll bring along the portable AC unit when it's going to be warmer, I have shore power, and I want to cool off van at night for sleeping.

I have it to cool about a 350 sq ft space, in high humidity environment-using it about 2 months on 77 degrees farenheight at lowest (outside temps 90-100 degrees). It is a room I do not really use now, but want to keep cool; because room radiates alot of heat through large glass doors. I never use it on dehumidify, because I do not want to hassel with draining it (not had to on a/c mode-also read heat pump mode could require more draining - so I got a/c only model ) I also cut out insulation board to reinforce plastic window hose mount, matching size of needed plastic window hose mount; taped together with aluminum tape. It is only 8k btu so probably won't cool very large space, depending on insulation, and ambient temps. Also, must insulate hot side exhaust hose for better efficiency (get flexible cover on Amazon ; not the stiff ones); or wrap with some type of insulation. This is inverter model, so I do not know how much it will vibrate, when compressor revs down to save energy-may need to place on mat to subdue vibration-especially on bare floors. One thing about the in window placed single inverter units (talkin about different models that actually place inside open window) that I did not know about was the vibration caused by the compressor reving down, and causing low frequency vibration-travels through widow and even walls. In this respect, this portable A/C is probably better, because much easier to stop vibration, by simply placing portable unit on a thick mat.

Been using the Hisense portable inverter ac from Costco and its super quiet and keeps our office perfect temp. It gets direct sun from about 1pm till dusk so the ac is a lifesaver. The dual hose design keeps the suction effect down and the quiet mode is almost dead silent, air purifier is louder.

Wait really? Not sure I'd change if I could bc it seems to just take up less floor space than the Midea duo and it's used in a couple smaller rooms so that's constraint for me. But I do notice it idles/holds 208-220w. My 12k window unit cools the whole living area (and helps to keep the whole place cool) only idles/holds around 150w. Hisense is at 4kwh today Midea window is at 2kwh. Pretty dramatic. I mean obviously I'm aware window units are still more efficient than dual hose portable but given the difference in capacity and cooling area I'd expect the Hisense to do a bit better. It would've been good to know to consider if the Midea Duo was a good deal more efficient than this Hisense portable Also any suggestions/photos of the mod you did to seal some of the holes? I only use it in smaller rooms which was the reason I opted for it as mentioned so also don't really need the higher end of the capacity.

It is. Costco is currently selling two Hisense units that are both 8k btu (regular one and the tower) and a 12k Midea. All three are dual hose (and if you spend any time researching portable a/c's on Reddit, you will soon see that dual hose is the only acceptable option). I am only cooling a 200 sq ft room, so I opted for the 8k btu Hisense.

I have Hisense 8000sacc for bedroom and Midea 12000sacc for living room. Go with Midea. I have them both scheduled through app Midea on during day, Hisense at night with a fan period at the end of the cycle for each. Midea seems to more consistently output cold when on auto/thermostat. The Hisense does, but it ramps down noticeably more often when it hasn't yet reached target temp while in auto/thermostat mode. I also think the Midea 2 in 1 hose is more insulating to minimize the heat radiating from the center exhaust hose compared to two standard hoses with Hisense. Regarding directional flow: The Hisense vent direction is remembered during scheduled power on, the Midea doesn't seem to, I have to manually adjust it when needed or it blows more up. Neither of mine are heat pump models, ac only.

So, I have one of these cooling a small room I stay in a couple weeks a month out in Arkansas. It worked relatively well for the first year. This year has been a different story. First it wasn't cooling as effectively as last year. I check the filter on the back regularly but that wasn't the issue. It's the heat exchanger down inside the machine that the outside air is drawn through in order to cool the air inside. There is no filter for the incoming air. It just goes down the tube and right through the exchanger. The only way to properly clean it is to disassemble the entire machine. This leads to my second problem. The blower fan is impossible to clean unless you open the entire machine up and do some major surgery. Mine had mold and other fun looking bits on it from the humid air out in Arkansas. I had to take the entire shell off, remove a good amount of the ducting, and disassemble the fans motor attachment to be able to clean it. It would be easier to clean the blower if the screen was removable that protects it but you cant remove the screen without once again disassembling the entire machine. Sorry. Long rant. I like mine for the most part but the lack of accessibility to clean parts that should be user cleanable makes me angry.

I just got this one to replace an old one that broke. Its definitely more powerful AND more quiet but frankly I hate it. Its two-tubes-in-one is way more difficult to use than a standard two-tube unit. The tube is short and less bendable and the plastic snaps that hold it into the window plate are cheap and one of mine broke trying to maneuver it into position. Not to mention you have to fit an adapter on to put it in a window that opens horizontally, more cheap plastic to break. I only have an AC set up 3 months out of the year and I'm really worried taking this thing down and putting it back up next year will break more of the plastic. Other than that its a good unit. I did have to get an extension cord for it because the old unit blew out the wall outlet by the window. But i got a heavy duty 12 gauge one that was as short as I could find, 25', and it seems to be working well.

I bought the regular Hisense 8,000 btu one a couple weeks ago from Costco and am happy with it. I think this one is slightly more expensive because of the tower design. But Hisense has a good reputation and it is dual hose. Costco has a great return policy. I think you should go for it.

Costco has a an 8k BTU hisense inverter dual tube for $270-ish depending on location or online order as well as a 12k (14k actual) BTU midea duo in white for $380. They also have an incredibly lenient return policy compared to Amazon or really most any other retailer. I wouldn't do a refurb unit only because of the short warranty/exchange period.

If you have a Costco membership, check out the Hisense smart tower portable air conditioner, it's 8000 buts and dual hose, great unit I have it. Steer away from the single hose units they perform horribly and cause a negative pressure sucking more heat in. https://www.costco.com/.product.4000346410.html?COSTID=iosapp_25.5.3&adobe_mc=TS%3D1749175504%7CMCMID%3D66941824137412427108247390450874890590%7CMCORGID%3D97B21CFE5329614E0A490D45@AdobeOrg&sh=true&nf=true

I have one of these. It's a tower so smaller footprint, a heat-pump so you get hot and cold, and inverter driven so nice and quiet. Only downside of heat-pumps is you need a drain for the condensate. I bought a small condensate pump and pump it straight out the window though haha. I have an old house, built in 1948, still has screw-in fuses. This AC will be plugged into a receptacle rated at 15 amps. How likely am I to blow a fuse when either of these kicks in? I think the Hisense draws 12A max. no info found on the Midea yet. I am inclined to get the 8,000 btu Hisense because my bedroom is tops 230 sq ft. My whole house is only 1200 sq ft. I read another comment that the 12,000 btu Midea would be over powered for my room and the dehumidifier would not extract water properly. I live in summer-clammy Michigan, lowering the humidity for sleeping is as or more important than cooling. Thanks in advance!

Fair, two other units I could recommend would be the Hisense Smart Tower Portable AC or the GE profile inverter Portable AC, they have the standard separate two hoses and you could clamp an extension on it. I have the Hisense tower, it's great and it has a heat pump for winter.

So first off I will say that if you haven't already, insulate your hose as a lot of heat will radiate from that. As far as the unit goes, I used tape to seal the back of it(slots on the very bottom back) I also used duct seal yo seal around the drain plug and where the power cord comes out. On the right hand side there are holes at the bottom(under the unit you can feel the air being sucked in with your hand), 1 at the front two at the back, I stuffed some insulation into the front hole and middle hole. This by no means is perfect and I plan on modding something a litte more sophisticated but just wanted to reduce the negative air pressure quickly as it was sucking in super heated attic air on a 40c day we had recently. I also will say that im certain the engineers have added this negative air pressure intentionally due to the compressor and power supply being in its own compartment and if you are running this thing at 100% and blocking those holes there is a very solid chance that it will over heat, so if you do it, do it at your own risk and check the units casing to make sure that bottom area isn't getting too warm.

That was all english, but im guessing you want me to elaborate? The higher number on portable air conditioners is an old testing method. The new method(the lower number) is more accurate as it calculates heat loss from hoses and heat loss from air that gets taken from the room and exhausted outside. The closer the higher and lower number are, in theory, is better.

I got a Hisense 8000 BTU Inverter style portable AC from Costco a couple months ago. Has a remote. Uses two tubes for venting. I tested it out cooling my main BR. I run it off a large Pecron Power Station. The one shown in the link has both heating and cooling. Mine was cooling only, but otherwise is the same unit. Works perfectly. My strong advice is to get an INVERTER style unit. For those having the same issue, I bought the "Hisense 8,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with Inverter and Wi-Fi" and it does not have this issue. I think the model I had was faulty based on comments from those who had the same model I did, but I did not want to possibly waste my time trying the Midea model again. The Hisense does make an inverter noise while cooling that is audible but it is much less high pitched than the model in the video and blends in with the fan noise even on low.

The higher number on the hisense is the older method for testing the lower is the "real world" this unit is particularly low for a dual hose due to it having intake vents on the bottom and lower back that sucks in air from the room and shoots it outside like a single hose to cool the compressor and power supply located in the bottom third of the unit. I've sealed most holes to help with this on my unit as I never need full capacity meaning the power supply and compressor dont need as much airflow and I haven't had issues yet.

I have both, the Midea is going to be best for your situation, it has more of a variance in capacity than the Hisense, Hisense tops out at 12000btu but is rated for 8000, Midea tops out at 16200btu but is rated at 12000. Also, the Midea has a drain pump to pump the condensate out which is especially important in the heating mode, specially if it is going to go into a defrost. Overall, I think the Midea just has overall better functionality and futures than the Hisense and is closer to a mini split. The Hisense is perfect for my smaller rooms though.

Have both of these... The 8k Hisense has a quiet mode that slows down the fan. If your room is borderline too big for 8k it may not be able to keep temp in this mode but it is genuinely quiet. The 12k Midea does not have this mode. In addition, when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up.
