I've tried the Canon Ivy, HP sprocket, and Polaroid Hi-Print and can't recommend the Polaroid Hi-print enough! The photo quality is way better than the others and the sticker paper is way thinner than the others so it doesn't bulk up your hobonichi as fast! The trade off is that the refills are more pricey however.

I have the Polaroid Hi-Print. It was pricey up front, and cartridge packs run about $15. I have used it for years and honestly love it. It helps me out when I run out of junk to fill a page!
r/JunkJournals • Are mini printers worth it? ->I like this printer, but if you a looking for something to look like a Polaroid, the Lab is what you would want to get. I have both . In my opinion The Hi-Print is the better printer, but The Lab is more fun to use. So I guess it comes down to, do you want the picture to look exactly like the picture on your phone every time you print, or do you want to have an imperfect picture from your phone that has the nostalgic Polaroid feel?

r/hobonichi • Update: Portable printer recommendations? ->The Canon selphy is good and can print bigger photos but I find the paper refill hard to find and usually ships from Japan from amazon and a lil too big and non portable for me I'm currently using polarioid hi-print and loving it for my planner, its a 4 pass system and paper is sticky, and thinner than the zinc ones which I really like, quality is not gonna be as clear as the canon selphy but great for the purpose that I'm using it for (planner photos)
r/hobonichi • Portable printer recommendations? ->I have a Polaroid Hi-Print that was gifted to me, and I think the photos generally turn out well! I've only encountered a really small amount of printing errors (it stopped printing before finishing all the passes and would be missing one of the Cyan-magenta-yellow colors, but it looked like a cool filter actually). It's sticker paper, but I usually just keep the backing on and adhere it with tape. But nowadays, I generally use Google Photos now when I'm printing any photos since I usually have a lot I want to print. I'll put 4 photos into a collage and print 4x6 photos. I cut them to 2x3 (or 4x3) after they come in.
r/scrapbooking • Looking for photo printer that's doesn't break the bank. Stuck between Kodak mini 2 retro and Liene M100 ->Polaroïd hi-print and Canon Ivy. I like them both! I have on my profile the difference between the two. The hi-print are bigger so they will take a lot of your free space in your A6 but I still use it. If you "fix" the pictures before sending them to the printer, the Canon Ivy does great but it's gray tinted and a lot less bright than the high print. The High print is really pretty, thinner and so nice but the paper doesn't stick as well on the pages. The other negative is that you can't do multiple pictures in one print. Sorry for my English. I'm not doing well these days.

They recently updated the app to support making collages, and I find the print quality to be pretty decent. My only complaint is that the adhesive on the sticker paper sometimes isn't the strongest but reinforcing with some glue tape has helped.
r/hobonichi • Mini Printers recommendations? ->Idk if it's specifically dull but I do find that the prints have less of a blue tint with default settings. I've been mostly using for printing movie posters and book covers for my media journal and it's done pretty well with those. I'm sure I could adjust some settings to optimize - just haven't dove in. It's not zink, and that's part of the reason I chose it. I was reading that some of the older prints people had that were using zink were fading pretty bad. The other "downside" if you want to think of it like that, is that there aren't as many templates to perfectly fit the hobonichi grids, and I sometimes struggle with collage dimensions. It's not terrible and doesn't bother me, just something to consider. I think it prints the same 2x3 though

I have a canon SELPHY Qx20 which I love but there's also Polaroid hi print and Kodak mini 3 retro. The cartridges are super easy to use and if you're worried about the ink making a mess or something it's not like that at all.

I will admit my favorite way is just a regular printer with sticker/label paper, it's the thinnest option for me (creating less bulk) and the stickers stick well. I have a blade with a rotating tip so I can get the 'kiss-cut' and don't have to cut with scissors. I travel light so my instant camera (instax sq6) barely sees the light of day so it depends how much you'll carry it, the film is also quite thick. I'm also a bit eh on the photos and wasted quite some film but i think I just haven't practiced taking instant photos. Photo printer (I have the Polaroid Hi-Print) is really nice to have so it is the first option when I need a quick pic or 2. They don't stick very well though in my experience but thats easy to fix and it's fine after a few days between the pages.

r/bulletjournal • View on Reddit →I have this and like it a lot for journaling. It's dye sublimated and not ZINK, so the colors are true to image and will hold up better over time. It's a digital printer; the photos look like digital photos and not polaroids. They're sharp and vibrant, without the hazy/dreamlike vibe of polaroids. The one thing I do dislike about it is that the sticker adhesive is way too weak. I have to use photo corners to get it to stop peeling off my traveler's notebook pages.

So I use a collage app to get multiple pics on one print. I can't speak to the longevity - I've only had mine for 8 months. I think it was a good choice, though.

I was torn between the following: Instant: Polaroid hi print, hp sprocket, canon selphy, Kodak retro 2, etc. Printer: Epson eco tank vs canon mega tank I ordered the Polaroid hi print, the quality wasn't good. My friend has the HP sprocket and canon selphy. Sprocket quality is fine but looks like it has a filter on it. Canon selphy was by far the BEST quality but is expensive and figured I could get a new printer at that point. I decided to buy a new ink tank printer and just bought the Canon Mega Tank G3270 on Amazon! It's actually on sale right now which really sealed the deal for me. I got it yesterday and will be setting it up today. I want the ability to print photos whenever I want, so I can use canon photo paper with the canon ink tank, hopefully I get good results! After I set it up I will report back. I am still considering maybe getting a small instant photo printer but I'm going to wait and see how this printer treats me. I have plenty of printable sticker paper so I'm hopeful this will solve most of my problems!!

It doesn't use thermal printing--it uses 4 pass/dye printing, but it's as easy to plop in the cartridge as it is to plop in photo sheets. I like it because the quality is FAR better in my experience than it was to a thermal printer, and I especially like that the paper is thinner so its less bulky in my planner.

r/hobonichi • View on Reddit →I had two HP Sprockets (one very old and so upgraded). No change in quality, both always disappointing. Moved to the Polaroid HiPrint and it's better. While not perfect, I think the quality is better generally. Plus it's a slightly larger print, and less bulky paper. My comparison photo: Polaroid is left, HP right. I had previously bought the canon ivy but did not like the picture quality. I decided to go with the Polaroid hi-print! The one on the left is the Polaroid and the one on the right is the canon. The Polaroid definitely beats the canon. It also offers sticky pack prints! Just what I was looking for â˜ºï¸ and as you can see it's slightly bigger. If you're wondering, the canon ivy does weigh less than the Polaroid. The Polaroid has a little bit more weight to it but it's nothing to worry about when traveling with it. I'll be returning the canon ivy and keeping the Polaroid hi-print. Thank you all for your help and recommendations!

r/hobonichi • View on Reddit →I have had the HP sprocket and Canon Ivy 2. Both worked fine. I liked the Canon 2 over the sprocket though for color of my photos though neither were perfect. My Canon does occasionally have issues where it tells me I'm out of paper and won't print. But it has paper and nothing I do fixes it. I leave it alone and just try again later and it prints fine again. I did recently get a Polaroid Hi Print. Print quality I think is better than the Sprocket and Ivy. And I like that the paper isn't Zink so it is much thinner. It's still sticker paper so perfect for journaling. Of the 3, Canon has the easies app to use and you don't need a separate app to do a collage to be print more than 1 photo on one sticker paper.

Last month I moved to the Polaroid Hi Print and I like it much better. Slightly bigger pictures, paper is thinner (in a good way, the HP paper is bulky!) and the images are less pixelated.

Only downsides I've personally found is the paper cartridge being somewhat hard to get a hold of where I live (and as others have mentioned a tad expensive) and the sticker backing on the paper isn't that good but I just put on a bit of glue to help adhere it to the paper.

I disliked the instax for the reasons OP mentioned. Here's a hamsa and a print from the Polaroid. Great clarity, even with detail and not much light. The white band at the bottom is where you hold it if you want the photo as a sticker - peels off easily and adheres well. Or you can keep it as a photo. I can only attach one photo per reply - I'll post one more to show you how it looks on a TN page.

The only issue I've had is that it seems like I have to "forget" the Bluetooth connection and reconnect it each time I want to use it. I don't have that problem with the mini Link that prints photos in the old polaroid style, though, so it seems to just be a quirk. I like both of them!

I find that the actual sticker part doesn't tend to stick so well in the diary so I still use tape / glue. It's a tad bulky but it's $25 (aud) for 20 prints and I also ask for em for bday / Xmas. It is slightly bigger, but the photo quality is great.
