r/hobonichi • Mini Printers recommendations? ->So I've got the Kodak Retro and while I like it for my own purposes, I can't say I would recommend it. For one, I have not been able to find a cost-saving substitute for the paper, so I often end up hounding Amazon for when it's on sale and buying several packs at once, which still ends up pricey. But I like the quality of the prints (though it tends towards being too dark, lightening the image before printing works, though) and I do not aim to have the prints have the exact dimension of any particular part of my Hobonichi, I just print 1 photo per sheet 90% of the time. Also, the paper is not adhesive and peeling the back layer off to make it less bulky is cumbersome, so yes, it adds bulk. My Cousin's chonked up quite a bit since I started putting photos in the dailies (almost no other ephemera beside the photos and some stickers). I keep seeing the Canon Selphy mentioned favourably, maybe look into that?

I've already been using it to use in my journals. they are much thinner than polaroids. my only complaint is that the app is a bit dodgy and annoys me sometimes, but maybe I just have to get used to it a bit longer.

r/bulletjournal • Best Mini Color Printer ->I'm so sorry for the late reply! I was exhausted after work and then forgot until tonight! But at least I'm here now! Lol! It's the Kodak photo printer mini 2. It does a 4 color pass printing. So it is kind of like screen printing. The cartridge is a roll of plastic with colors on it and when you hit print it pushes out the paper and then it does yellow, then pulls the paper back in and does blue and then pulls the paper back in and does red. It's kind of neat to watch and it produces pictures a little more high quality than the zinc photos I think. Oh, it isn't on sticky paper though! It's more like actual photo paper. So you have to put some double sides tape on it in order to put it in your notes. But I think that it also makes them last longer. And you can also write notes on the back of top of the picture because of the paper it is on. So honestly, I would like to get one of the other zinc photo printers as well, but only because I think it would be fun for other things and I like the idea of the sticky paper. But I really love my little printer and I think it's more unique not being the zinc type printers. And so far the pictures have lasted years and years! In fact one of my friends even has one of my pictures on the dashboard of her car and it's been there for at least a year and a half, maybe 2 years and it's still looking good even after being in the sun, the heat, the freezing, the wind, whatever. They are about credit card size. I figured I would explain that even though you probably guessed. If you have any more questions, let me know! I'm happy to share and hopefully I'llv help you find your favorite printer too! ☺ï¸

I believe most of the Kodak mini printers use actual photo paper instead of zink paper. I know for sure that the [Mini 2 Retro](https://kodakphotoprinter.com/products/best-photo-printer-kodak-mini-2-retro-1) uses actual photo paper, but I'm not 100% sure about the other models.
r/scrapbooking • A printer that won't fade... ->I also have the Kodak Mini 2 Retro. I like the size she that the images are supposed to last for quite a while. Cons are they don't have built in sticky (I'm fine with using adhesive though) and take three passes to print, so may be slower than some options. It's been a great little printer for me. I've even taken it with me to a party and printed out a picture for the honoree right there. This Christmas I got my daughter the Instax Mini. She liked that it prints Polaroid-style with the thicker border on the bottom, which is pretty cute. We obviously haven't had much experience with this one, but they seem pretty popular.

r/hobonichi • Which portable printer do you guys use with the A6 Hon format? ->I just wanted to share that I, too, have the Kodak Retro Mini 2, and it is defective, and Kodak has been awful. I reached out to them more than a week ago about a warranty claim / replacement, and they have completely ghosted me so far. Every image prints with a grey-ish box along the center/middle of the print for most of the image. There's just 0.25" on each side that prints fine / outside the grey box. I didn't notice it at first when I got it in July because I had so many dark background images. But recently I had light backgrounds, which is when I realized. I looked back and saw it on all of them. My own research had pointed to buying a Selphy Square, but my phone is ancient and couldn't run/handle the app. It will run the Kodak app, which is the only reason I bought the Kodak in the end. I would not recommend it.

I printed one full cassette of ten sheets and nothing got stuck or jammed. Really like it and it's also much cheaper so i am really into using it now :)

r/Travelersnotebooks • View on Reddit →I tested out the Kodak mini retro 2 and canon ivy. Ultimately for my needs and ease of use I picked the ivy. The Kodak photos were too thick for my liking and I liked the sticker paper for the ivy. And when traveling the ivy is much more compact esp with the refills. I also preferred canon's app, esp for collaging photos if I wanted to print multiple on one sheet. You have way more control in terms of reframing/editing them. For printing,I found that even tho it cuts off the bottom slightly, it was more accurately framed than Kodak which will randomly crop in on the sides or bottom. Though there are blue tint issues with the ivy, I've learned how to color correct my photos before printing, so it's no problem. I also noticed a few times with Kodak because it runs the photo thru the dye sublimation process, it can easily get misaligned and I wasted a few sheets bc of that (might've just been my machine tho) I was concerned about the zink longevity and so really wanted to love the Kodak. But all my photos go in a journal that'll remain closed for the most part. And I guess if I really care then I'll print with an actual printer

I have made the switch to Kodak Retro! I also priced it out and the Kodak refills are about half the price of the HP Zink paper.

r/photography • View on Reddit →OP here: after reading the comments i did some more research and looked beyond the Fuji-verse and stumbled upon the Kodak series(P210 retro), the way lower costs per shot(1/3 of Instax)gave it the edge and i ordered one. Didn't even know this exists till then. After plenty of reviews it seems to have even better iq plus despite the same size of the negatives(?) one can print without the white frame and get a bigger photo compared to the insta mini eg. Only downside is came across is that the app ain't as good and some experience connection-issues.

It's fine for my casual "pic of the day" kind of stuff, but I think other printers mentioned in this thread will have slightly better quality that comes with the slightly higher price tag.

The only downsides I would say are the cartridges you'd have to throw out after 10 prints (not very eco friendly but what is these days) and the terrible battery life lol. I mainly do mini scrapbooking in my TN notebooks at home so luckily it's not really an issue. I just charge before I'm doing a journaling session

I am a huge fan of Kodak, the cartridges are affordable especially when you buy directly from their website. i recently bought 6 boxes (180 prints) for $50-ish with a discount. You can also make collages within the app itself so it doesnt clog your camera roll. To avoid confusion, the superman logo is not a kodak print but the movie poster is. The small prints are cut from a 4 picture collage and is 1.5 inches long. Superman poster is full size, 3.5 inches long. Took the first picture with my iphone under warmer yellow light and the second one under fluorescent. As far as the actual image quality of my pictures, these were saved photos from Letterboxd, not screenshots, if it makes a difference. I believe these movie posters are a good way to tell how good the prints are because you know what they're supposed to look like and the quality of the text is a good test of sharpness. Sometimes the prints are a little bit off center if you have a border but if you cut it anyway it wouldn't matter. Sometimes it's also not as sharp but it seems to be a cartridge inconsistency than an inherent flaw. Most of my prints look like this. I had blutooth connection issues at first (and so did a bunch of bad reviews on the app store) but i've been printing consistently lately and no longer have those issues. I don't get anything out of this, just an honest review. Hopefully this is useful and that some of you get it because if there are more people using it, the less likely it would get discontinued 😅

My criteria was: 1. should print borderless 2. prints 2x3" photos (I don't really want bigger) 3. decent colors 4. affordable cost per photo printed 5. decent software 6. pocketable, but could live without The Kodak Mini 2 ticks the first 4 points (\*) but I find the software terrible; specifically, the photo preview is not what it prints, the printed photo is quite a bit cropped, particularly the bottom margin (but sides are cropped too). What's more annoying is that there is no way to make it either tell you what it's going to crop, or to allow you to manually crop it beforehand so that what you see in the preview is what you get -- it always crops extra when printing. The effective printed size is (almost exactly) 86x54mm but the cropping tool in the software has no numerical information for me to be able to accurately hit the paper's aspect ratio -- it's just a rectangle I can drag around. The other features are also pretty poor and annoying (e.g. the collage tool, which I would like to use often, has barely any adjustments on inet photo placement/zoom/rotation, or inset size/geometry, or border size, etc). Pretty poor software overall. Moreover, I can neither "share" a photo to the Kodak printing app, nor print" a photo to the Kodak printer. If I could, then I could use a photo software to manipulate then share/print from it. Questions: - Are there other photo printers that hit all 5 points? - Are there any 3rd party android software that I can use instead of Kodak's proprietary software? I tried installing some generic printing apps, but they couldn't even find the Kodak bluetooth printer. (\*) can get 2x30 catridges for 18 GBP in the UK, which is 0.3 GBP/print ... wanted cheaper but I noticed it's cheaper than others

BUT it's known to be in extremely bad battery situation after a while. Mine is 2.5 years old and I will have to recharge it right before I print something.

I got that one and it's defective, and customer service is straight-up ghosting me. I looked into filing against them with the Better Business Bureau, but their score there is already an F and they are not accredited. Things I wish I'd looked up first. I had wanted to get a Selphy qx20 or similar, but my phone is too outdated for the app. If you're concerned about environmental impact, the inkjet is your best bet because, as you've mentioned, the others use/waste a lot of plastic.

(pros: fast printing, sticker-back paper. cons: streaks sometimes visible, color leans kinda lavender) Then, I saw a friend using the Kodak Mini Retro and I switched over. (pros: colors are clearer, images sharper. con: needs an adhesive to stick into the journal, printing is slower due to the "4 pass" process) I am using the Kodak Retro for travel journaling now because color and sharpness are important to me. I wish it had the sticker back tho! I bring a tape runner with me, but I have had them run out while I was on a trip!

The colors really are off, the quality is grainy, and the paper feels cheap and it bends with the page. I really am a fan of Kodak and i feel more than comfortable recommending it to all who would listen! And yes, it's the mini retro 2! I think they all use the same cartridge though so the difference is probably just the design of the machine but i havent really researched that. Happy printing!

r/Travelersnotebooks • View on Reddit →I'd say give the Kodak mini 2 or 3 a try and see if you like it (Amazon allows easy returns). Apart from the terrible software, they cropping and the darker photos, the photos are pretty decent quality, and price per photo is the cheapest I've found. You can manually adjust the photo size to compensate for the cropping (I two-finger resize photos to add some white margin on the sides and bottom before printing). I will try the cannon selphy as well as I've heard good things. It's not pocket size (i don't need that) and price per photo is higher, but i understand (hope I'm not wrong) it's an actual printer so you can just share to printer from any photo app.

r/JunkJournals • View on Reddit →I've used a Kodak Mini 2 Retro and the Canon Ivy 2nd generation. I like the image quality better on the Kodak, but the photos are larger and don't have a sticky back, and it is one of the only brands to use the 4 step printing system so they are the only ones who sell the paper, and it's expensive. I got the Canon Ivy to remedy the high cost of the photo paper. Because a lot of different printers use the ZINK process, it's easier to find paper and the pricing tends to be more competitive. Like I think I got a pack of 50 for the same cost as 10 of the Kodak papers. That said, I have found that the colours come out much less saturated and darker than I was expecting. I've only used it a couple of times so far but I plan on experimenting with adjusting the saturation and brightness to try to counteract that next time.
