I use a Levoit humidifier but I only use it because of my alocasia and lemon tree. My monsteras don't care about humidity. I mist the leaves every other day just because. My local big box hardware store has huge evaporative humidifiers (much better than ultrasonic because you can use tap water) for $120. They use these wicking filters that are replaceable. It's designed for a space 2,000 sq ft. That's what I'll be buying soon. It's called Essecks Aircare. Vevor also has a commercial one for about $100. My small Levoit basically does nothing to change the whole home humidity. I have the vent port dumping directly onto my two needy plants. I'd get the Aircare if I was you. A small humidifier is almost $100 anyways.

At that price they won't be BIFL, but you can still get some decent stuff. Here's some options for the small room: [https://hiarthur.com/?share=32b1481c-32d8-49e0-8920-d721a2991666](https://hiarthur.com/?share=32b1481c-32d8-49e0-8920-d721a2991666) And here's some for the big room: [https://hiarthur.com/?share=af627ced-d4a3-4d79-948e-9673beb00d6b](https://hiarthur.com/?share=af627ced-d4a3-4d79-948e-9673beb00d6b) If you want it strictly under 150, you can get the Dreo combo. If you're willing to spend a bit more, get the Levoit - it'll be a big step up.

You should use a cool mist humidifier for baby. We have a levoit and like to a lot. It has an auto shut off feature which is nice. If the air is too dry in the whole house you may want to consider a whole home humidifier

You should use a cool mist humidifier. We have a Levoit that works well. But we use it in addition to our whole house humidifier we recently had installed. The whole home humidifier was an investment but worth it

I've got a Levoit humidifier too, also live in a super hard water area. I only use distilled water in it to extend its lifespan and avoid having to descale reguarly. I always have distilled water in anyway for some of the more sensitive plants.

I just got a LEVOIT smart one so I don't have to manually turn it on and off. AFAIK the only benefit of using distilled water would be less hard water build up inside. I don't worry about that personally because you can just clean it with distilled white vinegar when the build up gets bad.

I have a Levoit OasisMist 4.5L humidifier next to my bed. I got an open box deal on Amazon for like $40. It's hard to keep a whole living space humid, so I focus on the bedroom. I also recommend using distilled water since the tap water here has so many minerals. I bought a 1gal water distiller on Amazon to make my own.

it's okay! it works and does help with humidity but i wish it had a digital humidistat to turn it self off. the unit is also fairly large and i wish it was smaller. I also wish the tank was bigger as it's kind of annoying to flip the filter and refill it everyday. I probably could do it every other day. I will say that the filter stays relatively clean after using the deminirlization tablets and aftermarket filter from amazon. Also being able to throw like most parts in the dishwasher is awesome for cleaning . comparing this to a previous levoit ultrasonic and i like that it's way more healthy. No mold in tricky spots (yet anyway) and i feel like i can do an easier job of keeping it clean for my son. I do change the wick every 30 days as well .

I've researched this extensively and have a couple of different recommendations based on how high maintenance you want to get. If you want ultrasonic/misting humidifiers where you can see the mist coming out, you should use distilled water so it's not launching mineral deposits and contaminants into the air. My levoit works well and is easy to clean. If you want something you can just run purified/filtered or tap water into, you can get an evaporative humidifier. I have a Sharkzilla that works well and also a cheap one from Walgreens that works great. If you want to check how well they're working, you can get a hygrometer. I keep two in my place in different rooms. All the above I mentioned work really well. I'd clean with vinegar once a week and it's good to dry out the filter and swap with a different one once the water runs out. That will help with bacteria/mold.

This. I don't have a washer and dryer hookup so bought a comfee portable washing machine that hooks to my sink and does an amazing job spin drying the laundry so I just hang them up to dry in my bedroom. Lately at night the humidity in my bedroom is 20-25% with my Levoit humidifier next to my bed. Do laundry and it'll jump to 60-70% for the night.

[**I am loving my new misting humidifier**](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dryeyes/comments/1hllzos/i_am_loving_my_new_misting_humidifier/), was well received, so I'm following up with a comparison of the two humidifiers I've been using. (The comparison turned into quite the little science project, as you can see, but increased humidity has made my dry eye symptoms much better, so it seemed worth the time and worth sharing.) **In short, the Vicks steamer wins for me because it:** * Can humidify three times as well (and possibly more) * *Is* ***$13.50 a week cheaper to operate*** (because there's no heavy, expensive distilled water to buy and haul) * Can tolerate significantly less cleaning without becoming a health hazard However: * The hot steam the Vicks emits could be a concern for people with children or pets. * Having to plug in and unplug the Vicks because it has no power switch can be a real annoyance if you have to do it every day. |[Levoit Top Fill](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C2C9NHZW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)|[Vicks Warm Steam](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000TN7ME?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title)|Comments| |:-|:-|:-| |Ultrasonic mister|Boiling water steamer|| |$29.99|$17.98|| |17 watts|I measured about 100 to 300 watts. I've tried multiple and I feel like no matter what they get moldy🥲 best I've found is the Vicks 3-in-1, it serves us well when emptied and dried daily, and fully cleaned every few uses. Frida baby 3 in 1 immediately got moldy, as did our levoit top fill. But the ultimate winner is a whole home humidifier. We splurged($1000 for install and humidifier) because we have number 2 coming in August and I despise the upkeep of room humidifiers.

We have a simple Honeywell one with the filter. I just clean it once a week and never have a problem with mold or bacteria growth. The filter gets changed regularly as well. The Levoit ones also seem to be good. I agree to not use an ultrasonic one. Even with using distilled water, the ultrasonic ones we tried were very quickly clogging our HVAC filters and it makes me nervous to have my kids breathing those minerals in if the return air alone can clog the filter so fast. I could also never keep them properly clean.

This is what I do for my 000-18. I think it's a levolt or some brand. I love it. I set mine to 50 and the machine just turns on and off as needed. Fill it once every two or three days and change the filters once a season. I'm the type of player that must have the guitar out all the time or I won't play. So the extra $250 for the humidifier is completely worth it. My skin also appreciates!

I have a Levoit top fill humidifier. It's super quiet with an adjustable knob for humidity levels. I used the filtered water on my fridge (personal preference) but think it would be fairly easy to clean periodically if tap water was used.

I have the Levoit top-fill and I like it. Long-term use is kind of vague. It shouldn't break on you at all, and you should just give it a quick wash once a week to keep it from developing any mold

I got the Levoit 450s for my 144 square foot bedroom and Love it. Even with the door open it keeps it at 44% humidity. Best thing I can recommend is don't use tap water. Use Distilled Water. I been running it last 3 days and the 4.5 liter tank is still half full. So I figure probably a gallon and a half a week max. I use about half gallon on CPAP a week so 2 gallons a week or 8 gallons a month. About $23.00 a month at Walmart.

Had a few LEVOIT OasisMist that worked pretty well. The warm mist feature is nice, but had to constantly get distilled water to avoid white mineral dust covering everything as it's ultrasonic. This year, just picked up LEVOIT Sprout as it's evaporative so can use tap water. Most evaporative models I've researched have mold problems, specifically in the unserviceable fan assembly as their designs have the fan after the wick, pulling moist air through. Sprout's design has the fan *before* the wick so it *pushes* the moist air out instead. So far so good.

We have a cool mist humidifier in our daughter's room. It definitely makes a difference. My recommendation, get one you can clean easily and that you can use essential oils in. The brand we have for her is Levoit, can be bought on amazon. We previously had the Fridababy one and it was a pain to clean so I wouldn't recommend that one. For us in our room, we have a Leviot cool and warm mist humidifier that automatically adjust to the air...10/10. We only use purified water in our humidifiers.

I have both the Levoit OasisMist 450S which is 4.5 liters and the Levoit Oasismist 600S which is 6 liters. I use distilled water in them and clean them every both every Sunday. They are always clean looking because I use distilled water. When cleaning I remove all the little parts and soak them in a White Vinegar solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water for about 30 min. I also swish the mixture around in the tank and then I pour it out and let everything dry. Then fill it back up with Distilled Water and good to go for another week. You could probably get by doing it every two weeks because with distilled you don't have a bunch of minerals depositing in the bottom of the humidifier which makes it orange and nasty and yes hard to clean.

I just ordered a levoit brand one, having had other levoit ones that last a long time. The difference in the new is it is top fill, and has a big opening, and made specifically for easy cleaning. I will also make it a point to never put tape water in it, distilled only. I used to use the additives that supposedly make it not gunk up, but in the Midwest/Ohio valley area, our water has a lot of dissolved minerals (limestone especially) and is very "green" with lots of living organisms too small to be seen, even when treated.

Mineral Dust is very bad for you to breath and yes it will leave white dust all over your furniture. It's also bad for the baby of course and it also makes makes it harder to clean your humidifier because it leaves those mineral deposits in the bottom of the humidifier. I use distilled in my Levoit OasisMist 450S and 600S and they have been every easy to keep clean. For a mist Humidifier you absolutely have to use distilled. $1.27 a gallon at Walmart for the Great Value brand. If you want to use hard water you will need a humidifier with a wick filter. The only problem with those is the filters are expensive and they don't last very long. Your third option is to buy a machine that makes Reverse Osmosis Water that you can then use in your humidifier. There is no secret sauce humidifier that is going to do everything and cheaply. It cost money no matter which route you go. You will either be buying water or buying wick filters. For my mist Humidifier for the bedroom I don't run it all the time. Mostly at night and I set it to the lowest possible humidity of 40%.

I just bought this [expensive humidifier](https://a.co/d/ebxf3yx) for the house but for right now I'm keeping it by my orchids. It tells me the humidity in the house and I have all the capabilities to control the mist strength and how high I want the humidity etc. There's also a plant feature which tells you what the ideal humidity for your plants need to be. I have a preschooler and with back to school and cold and flu season on the horizon I justified this purchase.
