The main advantage of a projector is size. You can get a 135" diagonal from a projector, which no TV that's affordable can possibly deliver. At 100" diagonal, TVs are the way to go most of the time. If your space supports it, just get a decent TV. Models like the Valerion Pro are solid enough and give good viewing, but they will suffer, as all projectors do, in any type of ambient light. I'm working with someone who will end up doing a 135" setup for his theater specific space, but will also have a couple of 100" displays in the rest of his basement for viewing in different areas.

In my opinion theyre very good. Especially if you have dark walls or curtains you can pull to avoid light reflection. If you really care that much about super deep blacks an oled might be your best bet. With good light control and dark walls projectors are awesome but they arent going to be as dark as an OLED.

They are excellent, there is no real competition in terms of quality/price ratio except maybe the Nebula X1. However they are not perfect: they're subject to speckle and RBE. You'll need a matte white screen for the speckle. If you want to avoid RBE there is only Epson, all DLP projectors have it.

Using the Valerion Pro for the last 10 months and its amazing. Everything is so crisp. When I'm watching TV or sports (not movies), I don't even turn off the room lights. For the best experience - like a home theater - I dim the lights only when watching movies. This is my first big projector, so I can't comment on the others you mentioned, but if you go with the Valerion, you won't be disappointed!

I would recommend watching some YouTube videos by TheHookup. Generally in the price range you're looking at it's hard to beat the Valerion, but if you go that route you need to be aware of screen material because non fresnel ALR screens result in laser speckle. https://youtu.be/F6mFV7XQC3o?si=Ohb3F-GpyDk8jOW

Intersting review. I'm sure it's a great projector, but the pricing is wack for a unit that's a minimal upgrade on the LS12000. If I weren't so into UST's now I'd rather buy a Valerion Max tbh. And I would, based on that unit alone, dispute that there's nothing comparable in the price range, on paper all the stats of the Visionmaster Max dropkicks the QB1000 into a well, "300" and "this is Sparta!" style. Half the price, four times the contrast (according to them - but the Visionmaster Pro 2 almost lived up to their claims).

Yes but all long throw are like that, you can't beat physics as unlike ust that's nearer to the screen. Also, long throw are affected by ceiling, walls and room reflection, even if you close the blind and turn off the light there's still light from the projector that's bouncing off them and will bleed the screen (the black turns lighter). If you going for 120 then ust + alr is the only route then. Also, for ust you might want to consider factors like rbe, hotspot and speckle. Ust needs tensioned screen unlike long throw which even a wall can be used as screen.

It doesn't have to be fully dark. You just don't want direct sunlight. We sit in our basement with the lights on and watch and the picture is nice and bright. It depends on how bright you want the room to be, but I would not call ours dark.

Yo, with a $5K budget, you're in a really good spot for a solid home theater setup. consider the Valerion Pro 2, it's a beast for the price if you're going for a cinema-like experience at home. you're not just buying specs you're buying the full experience. So if you're gonna watch movies regularly or game hard, quality wins every time.

Then they're saying pro2 is only 1700 lumens, don't think it's that low though. Can calculate yourself here - https://visualdisplaysltd.com/resources/tools/useful-calculator-tools/projected-brightness-calculator WB match the Pro2 now is brighter than even the Valerion max. https://www.avsforum.com/posts/64183066/

Imo bigger is always better so get 150" but Valerion max at its best setting is only 1300 lumens, not really bright enough. 135" will be 83 nits and 150" 67 nits. At those size just get the cheaper Valerion pro2 imo or get something even brighter like xgimi 20 max (3000 lumens)

That's gonna be so sweet. I'd say keep the screen, grab a nicer projector, and enjoy the big screen experience. The Valerion is considered a steal right now, but if you wanna keep the price sub 1000, the benq HT2060 does NOT disappoint. Obviously no projector is going to have the black levels of an OLED, but imo the much larger theatrical screen of a projector makes it so worth it. You have the space, you're planning on controlling the light with black paint anyway, you might as well make the most of that space and keep the projector setup.

You'd probably be better off with a 5050ub even though it's bulb fed. It has considerably better black levels. They're cheaper too (well.. same ballpark). Or, you could look into the Valerion projectors, the Pro 2 model almost certainly gives you a better image in just about every way. Or the Max, better yet. Since you're talking about in-wall speakers, UST projectors are out (can't combine UST ALR screen with perforations) otherwise one of those would have been a choice, at 120 inches; a $2000-ish Nexigo Aurora Pro provides a better image and better dark room viewing than the LS11000 (haven't seen it with my own eyes, have seen a comparo online by The Hook Up). Epson projectors also all have loud fans; I'm an Epson owner myself. I have to run mine on 70% power to shut the fan up otherwise it sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

At this point, these are getting lapped by the Chinese DLP units. There's basically no doubt that a Valerion Pro 2 or the Max would crush these Epsons on image quality (and this is coming from an Epson owner). Just something worth keeping in mind. Some others too in the recent releases. But of course, Chinese support.

If you don't need extra brightness, Valerion is a better option than Nexigo. Just be aware you may have to choose the screen carefully for RGB laser projectors. But if your room has all-white ceilings, the black level may not differ too much. The extra brightness, almost doubled, could give you a better HDR/DV experience. XGIMI is great if you need more flexible position with its optical zoom and lens shift.

Keep in mind, this is an informal comparison; he goes into far greater detail with comparisons and reviews on his main channel. Regardless, the out-of-the-box accuracy is a very good detail to be aware of for a prospective buyer. He matched the settings and made the comparison as fair as possible without calibration. The green tint may be due to the Epson running at 100% laser luminance. Though the valerion was also set to max laser luminance and it has no such issues. This is a real out-of-the-box experience. Both projectors were factory reset and set up using the best recommended settings from AVSForum members. Neither one was calibrated, so any issues you see with the Epson apply to the Valerion as well. The difference is the Valerion still managed to look this good without professional calibration, which is a big deal for the average user, since 99% of people do not professionally calibrate their projectors.

I am not an expert but here's my experience switching. It depends on your projector and the room. We have our projector in the basement and we have no problem with light. The projector, Visionmaster Pro2, is very bright so ambient light is fine. Because it's a basement, though, we have no direct light from outside to contend with. I think it's really a matter of how much control you have over the amount of light in the room. If you can filter out a reasonable amount of sunlight during daytime viewing a projector is fine. If you like a bright room, then a TV is better. But also, triple laser projectors now produce a much brighter picture than the old lamp projectors did for the same price.

I have the Valerion Pro2 you're looking at. There's no tv on the market that can compare to the 141" 2.4:1 picture with my 9.2.6 Atmos rig. My screen is acoustically transparent, so my 9 speakers at ear level are all identical, which gives a seamless audio sound field. As for wiring chaos, I have three wires going to my projector from the closet where my rack is. The power cable is an extension with the power supply in the closet. The other two are Ethernet and HDMI. All are neatly tucked inside the mount, so it's very clean.

Fyi the valerion max has about the same brightness as the pro2, the main difference is that it can trade brightness for contrast so it's best setting will be even dimmer than the pro2. So 1.1 gain means the brightness can be 10% brighter. Imo you can sample the pro2 first and see what brightness you like. So imo when you get the pro2 you test at various picture size 90"100"110"120" etc and see which one is at the bright nit level that you would want. Pro2 with theater mode at 100" should be around ~250 nits. You can use the nit brightness as base line

So the reality starts to become clear. Surprise! surprise! It is no breakthrough or a space disruptor. It is still a very good projector (but so are other similar e.g. Hisense, Leica, Formovie and Nexigo Aurora) and is a good choice for the early bird price but not so for the regular price. The much hyped by influencer feature - EBL is rather a disappointment and better kept off. The native contrast is about 1:1600 and not what Valerion claimed. Multiple serious reviews are out there reporting the same thing. So, in a nutshell, don't trust influencers (be it hookup or projector junkies or whomever), don't fall for the extreme hype and fomo created by such companies (they pay even for a written review on AVS forum) and lastly it's a good projector but not a breakthrough.

Valerion Visionmaster Pro 2 visits a 320 inch cinema: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTPAM13Lon0 - so of course it depends on what level of lumens you really want, but I wonder just how much a Valerion Visionmaster Max could do. Certainly it would shit on the likes of an Epson QB1000 which is just a minimally uprated LS12000. The Max claims 3500 lumens, and the 3000 the Pro 2 has looked like that on 300+ inches. Even a JVC only hits 2000 or 2300 lumens. Here's Youthman shining the Pro 2 at a wall at 300: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhVqxINzqxs So yeah, obviously I'm just spitballing here. I don't know what you deem acceptable either. But the Max with an anamorphic lens (which is in the works, I believe - the Max has interchangeable lenses) on a 180 inch 21:9... I can't imagine that would disappoint. The Max also has the Iris to further get black level and contrast, it does something like 25000:1 which a big JVC will obviously beat... but not by as much as one might imagine, I believe. But, good luck figuring out which way to go. But it sounds kind of silly to say, but to me the Valerion Max has kind of rendered most other consumer long throws irrelevant. I have an Epson UST, and nothing Epson has in the sub-$10 grand range makes any sense vs the Max. JVC's D-ILA models, sure, you give up brightness but gain contrast and absolute black level, and lower brightness is an issue if you want to go large.

Since I really like UST projectors I'd have said "Nexigo Aurora Pro MK II" - $3 grand + $1 grand for an UST specific ALR screen, but with the ceiling mount and screen already there I guess that's out. Although not necessarily, still; it's still $4 grand and you could just dismount that screen and remove the ceiling mount. For long throw the Valerion projectors are hard to look past at this price point, they're embarrassing more established brands right now. However, I'd still replace the screen with Valerion's long throw Fresnel ALR screen. Also, what is that, a screen for mice? 100 inches in that space? Get a 150 and drop it low. This screen is mounted too high anyway.

Imo get a big tv. Long throw like the valerion is out of the question as it needs a dark room. Ust + alr is the only viable option but it still won't beat a tv for pq. Projector is only an option if tv is too expensive or can't physically fit the door.

I have a Pro2. Materials help with laser speckle, but not rainbow. I'm sensitive to rainbow, but my wife isn't. I see it, but am not really bothered too much. In a really high contrast scene (where it's really evident), I try not to dart my eyes across the screen. A positive gain screen might show laser speckle. My screen is a woven AT 0.8 gain. I don't see speckle at all. That said, I love my Pro2, even though the firmware, even with the current update, doesn't seem finished yet. Picture quality is outstanding in my completely light controlled room. You might think of darkening the walls and ceiling of your new room. That'll give you the biggest increase in contrast regardless of the projector you ultimately choose. I've got black fabric walls and ceiling.

Ignore those deluded Valerion fans. Tbf if you only consume non subtitle dark content then maybe Valerion ebl will be the better choice for you. Assuming you're not sensitive to rbe, under $3k the best is dangbei s7 ultra max, then it's a tossed up between xgimi horizon 20 max and nebula x1. For ust, nexigo ap mk2 is better than valerion and has no rbe / speckle issue too.

Fyi there's a downside to low fan volume, the likes of Valerion get the low fan noise via limiting the fan (1600 rpm instead of 2500 rpm) and instead throttle the laser (can drop 30-40% kind). Some of their users are resorting to adding an extra fan / modding a replacement to reduce the throttling. So it depends which you prefer, as higher fan noise can be distracting too.
