You can get a Hisense C2 or the Nexigo Trivision Ultra and go with a traditional long throw setup. Placement of the projector needs to be pretty exacting. Then use a standard fixed frame screen in white or grey and call it done. Add a sound system and it's all together for under $3,000. $2,000 if you are careful in your shopping.

You will need to consider audio in the room as projectors don't do audio really well. Many lifestyle laser projectors don't have any optical zoom, which will limit your size/placement options. For example, the Nexigo Trivision Ultra has a fixed 1.27:1 lens. For a 92" diagonal, the lens much be 8.5 feet from the screen. [https://www.projectorcentral.com/NexiGo-TriVision\_Ultra-projection-calculator-pro.htm](https://www.projectorcentral.com/NexiGo-TriVision_Ultra-projection-calculator-pro.htm) The Hisense C2 has a .9-1.5:1 optical zoom lens. This gives you a ton more flexibility in placement so you can get a 92" screen or a 100" screen or even a 110" screen from the back of the room using optical zoom. [https://www.projectorcentral.com/Hisense-C2\_Ultra-projection-calculator-pro.htm#calc](https://www.projectorcentral.com/Hisense-C2_Ultra-projection-calculator-pro.htm#calc) The lens of these projectors needs to be aligned to the top edge of the screen. These models do have HDMI-ARC to backfeed audio to a sound bar or surround sound receiver. But, speakers need to be fully thought out prior to getting too much finished.

Hi, Really interesterd in your feedback too. I actually own a Xgimi Horizon Pro (my eighth projector but the first 4K PJ at home). Coming from JVC (X30 in France) and then BenQ W1120 (my two last 1080p PJ), I wanted to taste the 4K. I knew that its contrast is weak but this Xgimi has other strenghts. Now, I'm torned between changing again for a new PJ or getting a new big TV like TCL 98" or Hisense 100". If I stand with projectors, it won't be a laser one because 1/ the speckle 2/ the rainbow effects... I'm sensitive to the RBE and see a lot of these with laser projectors. I've been to a demo of the Hisense C2 Ultra and I got an headache after half an hour in addition to the RBE. So I think these kind of projectors are definitely not for me. I've seen Ekki Schmitt's review (cine4home.de) of the BenQ W2720i on youtube and it seems to be a very good choice with accurate colors. The only backdraw should be the brigthness. With 1300 to 1500 lumens after calibration, you are limited to a 3 meters width screen (which is already nice). Because of the dlp chip used in this BenQ (0.47), the contrast is not as good as with a 0.65 chip but Ekki Schmitt said in his review that the dynamic contrast was about 3000:1 ratio without "pumping". So it should be very usable. If it's true, this BenQ could be a bargain. Very excited to read your feedback about it...

r/budgetprojectors It's pretty commonly accepted here that you're looking to drop $1000 USD at least for a new 1080p projector but if you're looking spend even less budgetprojectors should be able to help you. 50% off 4500€ should easily accommodate something like a Hisense C2 Ultra and a basic 100" screen. 75% off 4500€ would bring you down to a BenQ HT2060 and a basic 100" screen. What are you looking for in a projector? Resolution? Do you need an ultra short throw or is there space to accomodate a short or even standard throw projector?

If you need the swiveling 360 possibilities, and arent mounting it.. the c2 ultra is fantastic. Buuut for me the rainbow effect on mine can drive me nuts depending on the content. Sometimes it's all I see, and other times it's non-existent, and like everything else on it, I can't figure out why.. so the xgimi horizon s max, might be better if rainbow effect drives you nuts. But ya lose out on some things... If ya don't need the 360 gimbal stuff, or ya just want to dish out extra money on an add on gimbal, the valerions are a good bet. If I had $5000 lying around I would got the top of the line valerion... but I didn't have the extra $2,500 for 15% better images. The c2 is solid in image quality and sound. I use the built in speaker more than my AVR because it doesn't drive everyone in the house insane, and its more than adequate. So if ya don't have a great sound system where you'll use it, thats something to consider. I'm sure the valerions are OK too. C2s seemingly have a high probability of having really annoying light bleed though... (mine is awful, I've seen one with worse, and more than a few that are about the same. But can be fixed with some tape and a card.. ) I have a love hate with my c2.. some times I'm in aw by it, and other times I wanna throw it out the window, but its almost all software related issues.. like on tvs, where one setting disables another and doesn't say which one, and its a never ending quest to figure it out. (Just disable everything and youre usually good).

I ultimately bit the bullet, cancelled trivision order and went with Hisense c2 ultra. It performs amazingly well even in my non-light controlled living room. The only downside of course is that it's 2x the cost of nexigo. Given our tariff war with china, it's unlikely these projectors will get cheaper

Hey TechNick that is not really a good suggestion. It would be a major step down in quality. The C2 Ultra has better color due to triple laser, better HDR management, better contrast thanks to strong tone mapping, fluid motion due to MEMC, support for Dolby Vision, is a lot quieter as well. I've read plenty of reviews of the x3100 many consider rather load and it gets really hot apparently.

The Valerions, highsense C2 Ultra, and nexigo trivision ultra are the three I narrowed my search down to about 4 months ago. All 3 have great picture, low input lag, handle 4K well, etc. I wound up with 3 Valerion Pro 2s, as I really am impressed with them across the above stats, aesthetics, and software, but you'd likely be fine with any of them. We use ours for heavy gaming and as a main theater projector for movies etc. Won't ever go back to a TV. All laser projectors will need a good screen, I'd recommend something with a little bit of texture, possibly woven to reduce some speckle if you're sensitive to it.

Benqs scored pretty low at the time I was buying. I haven't looked at the 100s. This review really helped me at the time get a good cross section of the lifestyle projectors. https://youtu.be/ClIboELoz74 One thing to note is that the Highsense did make some strides since this review with recent firmware updates, but I'm not a fan of their software/UI. The Valerions using Google TV was a big plus for me, it's well maintained and it works.

Have you considered the c2 ultra? I finally took the plunge and have one arriving tomorrow. I was on the fence between the horizon s max, the c2, and pro 2. The s max stopped being on sale (went back to $1900 instead of $1600), dramatically decreasing the value benefit. Then it became a shoot out between the c2 and pro2.. and while from a purely picture quality standpoint the pro 2 is probably better.. I wasn't sure if was gonna be $500 better. On top of that, I plan on actually moving it around, and taking it places, so and the c2 won out on those features, with the built in gimbal and slightly better sound capabilities. It also just seemed easier to carry around in general. One review i saw on the pro2, pointed out that it's just a big square with really no clear way of holding it/moving it around.. not that you cant, but there's no handles or anything, so it's just kinda upto you to decide. And the little flappy stand under it.. I dunno about that. The gimbal approach just seemed much better to me, without having to spend another $150 for one.

Think about it logically Say it can produce a 120" screen from 8ft away without any digital zoom and maximum brightness If you move it to 14 feet and use digital zoom to have the 120" the projector is less bright and will have less contrast because the further away it is the further th laser needs to cast The c2 ultra is a short to mid range cast imo I've had the c2 ultra for just under a week now and blown away with it but just wanted to see if I should ceiling mount it much closer rather than have it wall mounted 14ft away and zoomed in

Yes I did, last weekend I went to a store that has many lined up in a showroom and I was able to test many side by side. I had a TK710 that was defective and after 3 unsuccessful RMA's I decided to get my money back. Which means now I have to find a new projector. The C2 was WAY more convincing than any other product. With the correct screen or type of wall, triple laser is as close you'll get to OLED like color quality. Color gamut coverage, contrast level, it's beating every BenQ product to be honest.

Absolutely love our Pro2s. They are beasts of light output and have exceptional contrast. Amazing cinema experience and gaming is very nice. Yeah you're limited to 60hz 4K but it's rare to get games much over that at 4K and good settings these days anyways. I know the c2 ultra is also good for gaming and has comparable cinema performance, but its software leaves a little to be desired for me.

I currently have both and I'm going to keep the N1S 4K. It is much quieter than the C2, which is a priority in our bedroom because it is right above our heads. I find that the jmgo produces a more "cinematic" image, while the C2 produces a magnificent image that is closer to a television, but that's not what we're looking for. It's clear that the C2's image has more contrast, which is really beautiful. In a room with completely white walls, we use a motorised Nothingprojector Black Series screen. The fact that the JMGO is less bright is an advantage, but the C2 can also go quite low. For this type of projector to work with the ALR screen, we had to offset the video projector to avoid hot spots (we had a bright line that took up about 30% of the screen). I got the JMGO for 830€ and the C2 for 1300€. I am eagerly awaiting feedback on the Hisense M2 Pro, which will offer a real advantage with its optical zoom. We will see if it is quieter than the C2... If the C2 had been quiet, I think I would have chosen it and tried to calibrate it to get the image I like. It has more to offer!

I received the valerian visionmaster pro2 today and the light bleed was terrible. There's a high pitch buzzing noise that drove me mad . I dont have alr screens just a 100 inch matt white screen. I didn't like the picture quality of the valerian on my screen. The black levels on my jmgo n1s 4k on the same screen was better Adjusting dbl on the valerian did nothing.made no difference. The nebula x1 and hisense c2 ultra worked better on my setup but where too noisy My n1s4k is fantastic and on my screen had better black levels than the valerian but not the x1 . The n1s 4k is the most quietest projector I've owned. My valerian has been boxed back up for return .that buzzing noise drove me mad but the valerian did have a really sharp picture Maybe I would have needed a £3000 screen to make the most of the valerian but on my screen I enjoyed the jmgo n1s 4k more .a lot more. Don't believe the hype on these money grabbing sponsored youtube videos. The jmgo n1s is the real deal .I'm waiting on my delivery of the xgimi Horizon 20 pro next. Fingers crossed 🤞

I think its iffy to be honest. I love my projector, but there are definitely some drawbacks. Ambient light and placement are the real challenges you'll be navigating. Can you darken your room? If not, go TV. What's the space you'll be using it like? Have a dedicated setup or will you need to work around existing furniture? If you use a screen on a tripod, you'll inevitably be dealing with some issues getting the projector square with the screen. If you're fine using a lifestyle projector and throwing it on a blank wall, it's easier but you will sacrifice some clarity and color (with a pro of GREAT movability). If you want a mounted screen (ceiling or wall) then you'll likely need to think through wall or ceiling mounting the projector too. I love the lifestyle projectors as I can easily camp out with movies, take it to a friends for "the big game", or point it at the ceiling and play games from bed while laying on my back. Budget friendly options would be Highsense C2 Ultra, a lower budget Valerion, or a Nexigo Trivision Ultra. Im not an expert on UST options, but I'm sure someone can chime in with a few options. Pros for a TV: It's easy and you wont have to worry about light in the room. Cons: TV is now the focal point in the room. One thing to consider on "movie night", how are you about sound?
