This is from my LS11000. Using my iPhone11. Un-retouched btw. Great projector. Great colours, quiet unless you 100% laser (mines at 50 with a one stop ND filter) good sharp picture (zoom the above image) and easy to set up with motorised zoom and shift. it's only "issues" are JVC has better black levels - though I would say colours aren't as intense. There is an issue with "cyan push I. HDR with bt2020. That some notice. It can be corrected for, which I have done.

I have the same issue in an undedicated room with a little light and chose the Elitescreen 3D variant thinking the ALR screen will have a meaningful effect. It definitely looks good head on, but starts to lose brightness 10ft or so off-center, and is watchable up to 70deg. However, since my projector is a JVC NP5, it doesn't get bright enough to overcome a majority of the light that falls on my screen, so the ALR isn't really a feature that's needed IMO. If I could do it all over, I would just get the cinegrey and not deal with any speckling or hot-spotting. And yes, there is a major difference between the LS11000 and Ls12000, as long at you watch at night, your black levels will be vastly darker on the latter. I had the LS11000 for awhile and returned it because the blacks were a muddy Grey, and I prefer contrast over brightness.

All projectors have pros and cons and specific use cases where they can shine. Just like with pizza, I care less about "what projector is the best." I'm more interested in why someone likes a particular projector the best for a certain situation (use case, budget, etc.). Sure the 5050UB might not be entry level in the Epson range. But it's still an entry level projector in the home theater long throw 4K realm, especially when you compare it to the entry level laser units from Sony VPL-XW5000ES and JVC DLA-NZ500. I'm not talking about crap office/ educational projectors or old stuff that still sells in less developed markets. The LS11000 is a step above the 5050UB and I consider the LS11000 to be entry level also. No offense meant.

Yes, it's all relative. Not long ago I was in the same boat thinking it was crazy that a PJ would cost $5k when I'd never spent more than $1k on a TV before. But then I built my own home theater and in the process saw the whole marketplace and what performance levels are achievable at the different price points. For current 4K long throw projectors I consider $5k-$7k (new) to be entry level, $15k-$20k mid range, $30k-$40k upper range, $50-$100k to be ultra premium and the $100k-$1m range to be maximal. The $1k-$3.5k range all has technology that I consider antiquated or sub-prime like 4K pixel shifting or lamp light sources, so they're a non-starter for me. But everyone is different. $30k and $50k projectors might as well be $300k and $500k because I cannot justify the cost either way. Everyone is going to have their own threshold and it likely changes over time depending on resources and hobby interest level.

For Gaming and sports the Sony BRAVIA Projector 7 (VPL-XW5100ES) is an excellent choice. Great for movies as well. I recommend Epson for use cases with Ambiant light and also gaming. QB1000 is pretty awesome or LS9000/11000/12000 depending on budget. However for a more cinematic feel, JVC takes the cake. Unfortunately the Nz500 and 700 are limited to 60Hz To better assess the options, i usually ask my clients to put a % on each use type, and see if it makes sense. Also, game types can influence the recommendation. Any competitive games or more causal games. I game causally on my JVC and I am pretty satisfied. Hope this helps

I would go with the w4100i as a good option for home theater and a little bit of gaming. For more toward the gaming side, go for the TK710. If your space allows it, I would actually choose the LS9000 over any of these and it's at a reasonable price. If you can reach it, the ls12000 is absolutely phenomenal. Best for $1000 - eBay refurbished Benq Ht3550 Best for $1500 - ebay refurbished Benq HT4550i Best for $2000 Gaming - Benq tk710. If you are more toward movies but have a 2000 budget, go for the Benq W2720i Best for $2500 - refurbished Epson 5050ub Best for $3000 - Benq W4100i Best for $4000 - Epson ls9000 Best for $4500 - Epson LS11000. It would be a tough call between this and the ls9000 because 11000 has more lumens but 9000 has better contrast. Best for $5000 - You can probably find a Native 4K Sony XW5000es Best for $6000 - Epson LS12000, Benq W5800, or Sony XW5000es if you can't find it for $5000 I am like you too and want Laser. But Benqs LED is amazing and I would choose it over 90 percent of laser projectors. Unless you choose the Benq HT3550, I wouldn't consider lamp in 2025.

Oh sorry, I didn't specify but the prices I put are in USD. I overlooked your budget, but let me give you some advice. If you want to go strictly under $2500, nothing can beat a 5050ub refurbished at that price point. What I would do is get a LS11000 refurbished at $3,100 USD which comes with a 2 year warranty because it's Epson refurbished, and that is the best bang for your buck. If you feel more comfortable, go with the Benq w4100i for $3000 which has a LED light source which I love. It won't be as good as the LS11000, but it will be more compact and better for short ceilings. It does have more lumens, but for a 110 inch screen, you won't need those lumens unless the lights are fully on. What I would do in my honest opinion, is just get a 100 or 98 inch tv. I was about to do that to my home theater, but I had space to upgrade to 120. If you can get 115+ then go projector.

The image is super sharp, colors are rich (not washed out at all), and HDR really pops. Setup was easy thanks to the motorized lens shift and zoom. It's quiet, handles movies and gaming really well (120Hz is great), and the HDMI 2.1 is perfect if you're using a next-gen console. It doesn't have built-in speakers, but honestly, a simple soundbar works better than most projector speakers anyway. Solid choice if you want a high-end home theater experience without getting crazy complicated.

You will be very underwhelmed with the lifestyle options when coming from a solid home theater designed model. DLP may match the contrast of your old 8350, but the most comparable model to the 8350 today would be the Epson 4010. Better is their 5050UB, or LS11000/LS12000 series of projectors. Those are the direct upgrades to the 8350. The lack of zoom and lens shift means you are basically using keystone correction and digital zoom to make the image fit your screen. This loses resolution as well as light output when in use. Always. And should be avoided. It is still a personal decision, but I wouldn't expect you to feel like it is an upgrade in the least. But, you may be happy to live with it so you can put the projector where you want it.

The max is good, don't like the pro 2. I've seen both the Pro 2 and the LS12000, and both on default settings, the LS12000 destroys the pro 2. I like the Hookup, but I don't like the screens he uses, because it doesn't show the true sharpness and black level. I would choose the LS11000 over the 12000 AND the Max. The LS11000, Horizon 20 max, and refurb HT4550i are all projectors I would choose over any of these. Maybe just me, but I would buy all these over the max.

Hi all, I have been using an Epson ls11000 for the past 2 years. I upgraded from an epson 4010, which was a good experience but noticed dim light over time woth the lamp going bad. The ls11000 in my setup is reflecting off of a $500, 120 inch, Silver Ticket branded silver screen. At first, I though the brightness was also lacking on my unit. However, after some image turning, I find the brightness in a dark room to be great! Black levels are also fantastic with the proper HDR scene settings on the projector. Specially, the settings that made the biggest difference for brightness and better dark levels are Scene Adaptive Gamma and Dynamic Range HDR10/HDR10+ setting slider. I did some tuning to the white levels as well. If interested, I could send you a full list of my settings to see if they improve your brightness and dark level experience. FYI, I use an LG C4 TV quite often for gaming in another room. I love the black levels and HDR experience there, but this ls11000 performs very closely to that LG C4 in my experience. I love my ls11000 and would not go back or change for any reason right now. As for the ls9000, seems quite new and I don't know much about it. I'm curious if anyone here has installed an ls11000 and ls12000 side by side and seen a massive difference.

For gaming on a big screen, you need high resolution and high refresh rates for quick, responsive gameplay - 4K @ 120 Hz with sub 20 ms latency. Both the Epson LS11000 and LS12000 do just that. I'm getting that from my LS11000 connected to my PS5, and the experience with modern open world games is just breath-taking.

Not LS11000. It's more of a lifestyle projector. The black levels are good compared to cheaper projectors but not good enough for a treated room. Even in my all white living room, LS11000's "black" on grey ALR screen is way brighter than the reflected light.

For gaming, the refresh rate matters a lot. The PS 5 will put out 120 Hz at 4K, so you need a PJ (and an AVR) that can match that. I went with the Epson LS11000 and the Denon X6700 for my 9.2.4 setup, and the open world gaming experience on my 120" screen from 9 feet away is totally immersive! It also works great for streaming movies or 4K UHD BluRays.

The laser lasts 20,000 hours as opposed to a bulb. It literally is a gaming projector. And don't let the naysayers dissuade you with "it not real 4K," because I actually own the thing and it far exceeds my picture expectations for 4K quality on a 120" screen!

10k for projector is a lot. As someone said, epson ls 12000 or 11000 are great quality laser projectors, even though not native 4k. You probably need to better receiver like a Marantz Cinema 50 or 60 or a comparable Denon. Not sure which brand of screens is included either but looks overpriced

None of those projectors have native 4k resolution The cheapest projector which is a very good option that is native 4k is the Sony VPL-HW 5000ES. I would not recommend it right now due to panel degradation and manual controls at that expensive price point. For a $3,000 price point, don't buy projectors like the Hisense or short throws that have no lens shift. Keystone is BAD IF and only IF your ceilings are at a good height where this projector won't hang too low, then go for the XGIMI Horizon 20 MAX. Also if you plan to place it on a table/not mount it this is a good option. If you don't want that, the number 1 projector I am recommending due to the deal right now is the Epson LS11000. I can't justify why the LS12000 (Slightly upgraded model), is so expensive. Nevertheless, the LS11000 is a great projector with lots of flexibility and at a decently decreased price point NEVER utter the words Optoma lol The newer version of the HT4550i is the W4100i. I like Benq for Home theater, but the fan noise is quite high. I would NOT spend $3000 on the W4100i, instead a GREAT option would be to buy the $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay. This is the best bang-for-your-buck option and is amazing Again, projector lens shift is SO useful, so the only Valerion I would consider would be the MAX 99.99999999% of home theater projectors can project 120 inches +, that is not a good question. The other percent is a cardboard toy. Even the cheapest projectors can probably do 150 if all lights are off I don't like ultra short throw, my opinion is that you will regret if you buy it. Many things need to be perfect for it to work out well. $1,300 refurb HT4550i from Ebay would be the best option as it has 3d support and is very affordable so you can put budget elsewhere If your space permits, then you could go for the XGIMI, but I wouldn't because for half the price I can get a projector that's as good or better refurbished. Consider the Benq W2720i also but I wouldn't go with it

Epson have had a bunch of those a while now. First (and still relevant with 8000:1 contrast today for a fourth the price of the 1000) the 5050ub which is bulb fed but otherwise almost identical, and then the LS11000 and LS12000 which are lasers. The LS12000 is a very mildly worse variant of the QB1000.

Since people typically buy only ONE projector, their experience is limited. But I'll toss in a vote for the Epson. I have owned the LS11000 paired with a 120" Da-Lite screen for almost three years and couldn't be happier with its performance. My use is similar to yours, and the 4K 120 Hz refresh rate delivers excellent quality for fast paced open world gaming on a big screen. The LS12000 has better blacks and color, so it is sure to beat the excellent experience I've had with its sibling.

Hello, great question and basic answer is NO! A little backstory first. I have been using projectors since my early days at Sony Canada. I have owned multiple Epson projectors from the basic models and the 5030, 5040 and 5050UB so I have plenty of experience with the Epson line. I actually ordered the LS11000 as I was tired of the bulb and wanted to switch to laser a few years back. Within two hours it was back in the box going back to Epson Canada. Not that it wasn't a nice machine but there wasn't really a noticeable difference between the 5050UB and the LS11000. It was at that point I started searching through the newer 'lifestyle' projectors with LED and Laser technology. I tried literally 8 different models with none covering all the bases I needed. Then, by chance I found the JMGO Kickstarter and decided to back it. A week later I backed out (just a gut feeling) a month or so later I rebacked which ended up costing me another $600 I believe it was as I had missed the early bird offer. Anyways, long story short, I received the JMGO N1 Ultra and it was a game changer. EVERYTHING I was looking for in a projector and then some in a package that made the Epson line feel like semi trucks in size and with performance that smoked the Epson line. Needless to say I was so impressed with the technology I restarted my YouTube channel based on home theatre reviews and have now don't many reviews on all the models up to the newest JMGO N1S Umtimate which is the best projector I have ever used, Hands down. It available shipped to Canada from Amazon US for $2099 on sale right now, even with the shipping charge to Canada you will still be lesser than the used Epson...by far. Check out my review on this model as well as other JMGO projectors and I PROMISE, you will not regret it! https://preview.redd.it/j0954tai7uye1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=540f05f8f34a9f8e097218a22dfed10693b30655 This image is 160" on a wall only, no expensive screen etc and it it so close to OLED it is ridiculous. The market may have changed, but the Epson LS11000 laser projector is 4K, 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10, less than 20ms latency and in your price range. I've had it for over 2 years and use it frequently for open world gaming and love it!

Benq 710 is a very good choice. Tho we don't know longevity yet the valerian are very good. Benq 3100 is awesome. I'm running an Epson ls11000 at the moment.... All start at double your budget. There are good choices between your budget and $2k just those are my current top choices

I went with an Epson LS11000 to get 4K @ 120Hz which gives you plenty of frames for fast paced gaming on PS5. Depending on the distance between you PJ and equipment, you will need some optical HDMI cables to insure large enough bandwidth.

I have LS11000 and you won't get OLED level blacks from it (nor from any other projector). Except for the "hidden" feature of the Dynamic picture mode OP mentioned that shuts off the laser when the screen is completely black. You should calibrate the Dynamic mode first (or find good enough settings on internet) because its default colors are wild, but it's worth it. Fade-to-black cuts in the movies are then really fade to black and not just dark gray. This increases the perceived contrast ratio of the projector immensely.

I have the LS11000. I have had a number of projectors, good and bad. The LS11000 was a good choice for me. I had seen the LS12000 and knew that it was already challenged when up against a lot of other offerings when comparing black levels. That made it less of an important spec right off the bat. My room is light controlled but I have light colored walls and celing. The reflectivity of those surfaces would have negated any benefit of the LS12000 over the LS10000. Since I was fairly set on an LS11000 at that point, I saw that I could get a refurb direct from Epson for a lot less than regular retail. I have had several Epson projectors and have had to send a couple back for repairs and often wound up with a refurb anyway. After looking through others experiences over at avsforum, there was a strong chance I'd wind up with a refurb anyway. Why pay full retail then? Purchased a refurb LS11000 and it was perfect right out of the box, although the box was completely destroyed in shipping. That was the fault of UPS, not Epson. There were strange shapes cut out of the box. Looked like it had been caught in a machine and chewed up. Projector is flawless though. Zero issues. Destroyed package: https://imgur.com/a/UPgGZWV

I have my Epson LS11000 connected to my PS5 at 4K @ 120 Hz and it works perfectly on my 120" screen. The projector only needs ONE HDMI since all the switching is done using an AVR that also supports 4K @ 120hz.

I skimped on the LS11000 and wish I had spent the extra $1K for the higher contrast in the LS12000 in my dedicated room. But with 120 Hz refresh rate and 20 ms response time, the LS11000 is still excellent at both gaming and movies.

I have a similar setup and recently bought Epson LS11000, though it is not true 4k. It uses pixel shifting. If ambient light is not an issue then it is a good option to consider

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I did compare refurb prices and I think I settled on the LS11k refurb, which gives me $1,000 to invest elsewhere for our overall home renovation. Coming from a HomeCinema 2040 that I had since 2017 and getting a real screen (we have just been throwing the picture against a wall right now) I think we are going to be blown away either way... Great insights on the ALR screens! I haven't really read up on it enough to understand it well. Are you suggesting I move the projector or are you saying that the angle between the love seat and an ALR screen will always be bad. FWIW, we haven't really picked furniture yet and this is just a concept i plugged in to get a sense of the space. We may just end up watching from an L-shaped 4 seat sofa or something.
