I am still rocking a pair of XM3's and I am torn between rewarding Sony for the excellent service they have given me for 5+ years now and the price of the XM5's in my country. I am only now just starting to get a bit of static noise in the right ear of the XM3's and from my experience that is a warning they are on the way out. Would you reward a company for the excellent product your previously bought from them even if you don't agree with the price of the newer model? The noise cancelling aspect is very important and I believe they are still up there as one of the best NC headphones on the market.
r/SonyHeadphones • Wh-1000XM5 Review After 2 Years: The Good, the Bad, and Why I Still Love Them ->I don't know where this 'most people's hinges break' stuff is coming from. I am still using a pair of XM3's that are 7 years old now. I think that might be a careless person problem more than a product problem.
r/SonyHeadphones • Any recommendations for ANC headphones? ->I am on the same boat. Have my XM3 since summer 2019 and unfortunately this year I started to have some issues, so I decided to get the XM6.. the sound is definitely a downgrade.
r/sony • XM3 vs XM6 an honest review, and a love letter to the XM3 ->I still use my M3 since 2019
r/SonyHeadphones • Is this a good deal? Considering that xm6s are out? ->Thanks very much for this detailed writeup! I reached many of the same conclusions about the XM5s that you wrote above. There were also other things that I liked more about the XM3s and XM4s. One is their slightly wider, flatter headband that was more comfortable for me to wear on an extended basis. I also preferred how the XM3/XM4 earcups attached to the frame. They felt and looked more solid to me as well as permitting those headphones to be folded down. Finally, I think the mechanical design of the XM3/XM4 earcup attachment just leads to a stronger, more modern, and more pleasing visual aesthetic in my eyes. The XM5s just look a bit more fragile and retro to my eyes.
r/headphones • Sony WH-1000XM5: Overpriced and Underwhelming for Sony's Reputation ->Have you tried different ear tips to find something more comfortable? A lot of folks prefer the memory foam tips you can get vs silicone as they can be more comfortable/less irritating/stay in your ears better. I can't justify the size over ears take up in my bag now that anc has gotten as good as it is on earbuds. AirPod pros are the only ones I'll bring now on a flight. I used to bring Sony xm3 overears. The xm3/4 fold up pretty well and I don't see anything else taking up much less space (I believe the xm5 went backwards in design from a foldability/compactness standpoint, but the latest xm6 remedied that). I don't think the xm6 price is justifiable over the 4s for instance as these are still just consumer grade/mediocre sounding headphones (just like all Bluetooth stuff for the most part outside of a few like the Focal Bathys). My go to these days from a cost vs sound quality perspective is a pair of refurb sennheiser momentum 4, but the anc isn't nearly on par with Sony/bose/Apple stuff, and they aren't the most compact
r/onebag • What compact over ear headphones do you travel with? ->Yep I have the 1st generation, bought them when they released and they're still an absolute workhorse. These are always a top recommendation from me.
r/AutoDetailing • Headphone advice? ->While not exactly buy it for life, I've had the Sony XM3's for over 6 years now. They just won't quit. The only issue I've had was the ear cup material started flaking, but it was a quick and cheap replacement. 1. Apart from the ear cups, they have functioned like new for 6 years 2. The ANC is great, though I hear some of the newer versions are even better 3. I'm no expert so take this one with a grain of salt: sound quality is solid, but again I hear more recent versions are even better 4. I wear them for 8+ hours a day several times a week without any discomfort 5. Here's where the XM3's fall a bit short. They have pause, skip forward/back, and volume controls. They only has 1 Bluetooth chip, so swapping audio sources takes a few extra steps. The XM4's and later have multiple chips making this easier 6. I've recently done 12 hour travel days while using ANC nearly the entire time. Hope this helps.

I've been rocking the XM3s during work and workouts for almost 5 years I think. Best headphones I've ever had.
r/workout • Why are over-ear headphones so popular in the gym? ->Big budget - Sony WH1000XM(x) I still have my original MDR1000x and while the mic leaves a lot to be desired, they're amazing for music and blocking out the outside world. Find a new old stock on sale. Barring that, Bose, Sennheiser, pick your poison/price point, unless you love Apple, then the Airpods Pro2 are amazing for this if you like in-ear. Max if you hate everyone. Airpods4 with ANC are honestly fine for office environments if you have some music going, if you hate over/in ear stuff. If you're on a budget, the Anker ANC stuff is shockingly good for the price, both in sound quality and NC ability. Not 'no music on a plane of crying babies' good, but definitely good enough for an office.
r/sysadmin • What are good picks of Noise-cancelling Headphones that you've used for workplace? ->got xm3 ... still loving it.
r/SonyHeadphones • 1000XM6 initial review! Huge upgrade ->I have the XM3s and love them, and need to get another pair of headphones for work, and I'm torn on what to get, especially now that I see OP mentioning discomfort.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I can back this up too! I have the same ones and I love them. A comfy fit without bothering my ears, good noise canceling, you don't need to have music on, you can just let them do the nc and leave it, or you can play calming music to add another layer to hide any noise coming through. If it's still not enough, you can wear earplugs and then put the headphones on; I had to do this when my husband had the stomach flu and i have emetophobia. (He's very loud).
r/AutismInWomen • View on Reddit →I like sony but their under the blanket sound signature is really off putting. I have 2 Sony products whxm3 and wfxm5 and i have to use 2 EQs to make them sound better but then still not exactly there. Is the xm6 also like this? I know people say it sounds better but idk
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Really? I've got the 3's, thinking about upgrading to 6 but idk.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I'd suggest the xm4 over the 5 if you want something that can fold up and go in a backpack. I've had my xm3s for years and they're still awesome
r/GalaxyS24Ultra • View on Reddit →I've used my XM3's in the gym for 7 years now, they'll most likely be fine
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →My xm3 headband snapped in half and that was my last straw owning a sony product til i bought a ps5. Now i bought a xm6 on sale hopefully doesnt break on me
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I wonder if i should buy those , i'm still using the XM3 and they are great , even replaced the ear pads.....

r/Polska • View on Reddit →I have XM3's and with almost daily use the padding still looking like new.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →The WH-100XM3 were so much better. When mine were stolen at work, and I tested out the 4s, I was so disappointed.
r/sysadmin • View on Reddit →Strange I don't find they feel cheap at all, that is compared to my Sony WH 1000 XM3s.
r/sennheiser • View on Reddit →I've owned the XM3, XM4, and XM6 with no white noise or hissing with ANC. Sony is saying that to likely avoid a warranty claim. The Bose pairs I've tried on the other hand usually have noticeable white noise. Just my experience Edit: just to add, I also have the APP2 and APP3 and neither have hissing. That said, the APP3 do give a bit more of a cabin pressure feeling
r/headphones • View on Reddit →My xm3 broke after 1 year then I bought wf xm4 battery died 3 weeks after guarantee ended... And my first gen bose qc35 still works getting next bose ultras when they release :)
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I have had my XM3s for over 7 years, daily use and they are still going strong . had to change pads a few times . being really hot in Australia i sweat quite a bit in summer
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Unless you hate touch controls. I loved the XM series until I tried Bose QC-45 and realized how much I prefer physical buttons.
r/digitalnomad • View on Reddit →I just got the HyperX Cloud III S and have been extremely impressed, they tick off every box and are by far the comfiest headphones I've ever worn. Even more so than my trusty ol' XM3s. My friends said the microphone sounded good too.
r/buildapc • View on Reddit →I love these but i can't get over the ANC it's so horrible compared to even the xm3s I moved from. I swear I can also hear the ANC frequencies that is is trying to counteract the outside sounds. Gives me a headache
r/sennheiser • View on Reddit →Thats honestly weird. Apple apm, sony whxm, bose qc, sennheiser momnetum/hdb, etc. can all do it. Very common feature for modern headphones in this space :)
r/HeadphoneAdvice • View on Reddit →Googled the same thing and then stumbled on this post. I have been using XM3 for nearly 10 years. It's headband broken and my partner gave me xm6 as a birthday gift. The first thing I'm tuning into is the ANC. It's more than $600 aussie and i could hear as much if not more than xm3. If you are looking for a better anc than the previous model. Best to try them on. I'm disappointed by it especially the cost. Not sure if i should return it and run the risk of upsetting my partner.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Hi. The improvement in noise cancelling is not like night and day, but for me it works better because it adjusts based on the environmental sound, and can be very gentle when in a relatively quiet place. Regarding the amount of noise cancelled sometimes the 5s will do better, but sometimes will do the 3s because their NC is always at the same level, despite being it necessary or not. That said, I would wait because if you don't like 6s, the 5s will be cheaper.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Interesting. I had to replace them on my M3 recently and it was easy enough. Tried going through Sony but they recommended I do it myself as they no longer supported M3 'repairs'
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I second the XMs. I have 3s that have lasted me years.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Oh def. I still have my XM3 and still working good. Absolute must for plane travels and I usually do 12 hour flights. I just cant with that constant plane engine noise and this is a lifesaver.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →My xm3 headband snapped in half after a year of use. Tried to get em repaired with warranty but sony wanted me to use a 3rd party service that wanted like $300. I could just get a new pair for that price so i havent bought the xm4 or xm5. But got a nice deal on the xm6 today.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →had my xm3s basically since launch and theyre still great. if i was buying today id get the xm4 over the xm5 since the latter doesnt fold up into a travel case
r/GalaxyS24Ultra • View on Reddit →I was running XM3's up until about a week ago when the right ear finally gave out. I've had them for probably over 5 years and regularly did workouts with them on. I knew it was bad for them and would likely be their demise. They got sweaty as all heck during workouts and did eventually just start to stink.... Personally I've now bought a cheap pair of ANC headphones to work out with (Soundcore Q20i). I know these will likely die the same, but don't care too much as they were less than $50. For how much the XM6's are, I wouldn't work out with them even though my XM3's survived for so long. My two cents.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I haven't tried those before. Will keep it in mind to test them. I have read the comments. I agree different hardware can be best for different situations. I have some good old Sony xm3 for airplane travel for example. And I just use the Apple AirPods Pro 2 for on the go due to their convenience to do many things and their size. Will keep an eye to test some IEMs and see where they would fit in all of this. Maybe they are good for good quality sound on the go?
r/headphones • View on Reddit →I returned my xm6 it wasnt the upgrade i was looking for. Had the xm3 but the headband broke after a year and sony refused to repair them under warranty. The xm6 i would have kept if the build quality was better. Im shocked we still getting all plastic for $500. Heard hinges have aluminum inside because of the xm5 hinge problem. I kinda wanted better headband durability but its still skinny and weak looking. Tried the EQ setting but most sounded the same. Cinema mode was alrite for movies but not enough to sway me. Gonna wait til they improve some more

r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Is it just me, or has every iteration of the WH-1000XM series since the XM4 become the gold standard for noise canceling? The WH-1000XM3 was good, but it feels like starting from the XM4, Sony really began to stand out.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →XMs aren't sweat-proof, but I've been using them for that purpose for years and they've been fine lol
r/Deathcore • View on Reddit →well the XM3 battery are even more easily replaceable than XM4...if you still use them

r/Polska • View on Reddit →Starting XM4 bass on the Sony XM series started toning down more and more because of more ideal target preference. Def much cleaner sounding now if you look at the XM6 response measurements. So what you're hearing is correct that the XM3 is much more muddier than the XM6. Isolation and features al the XM6's selling points imo. You no longer need ANC on if you want to not ruin the music or if you want to conserve battery life. The other benefits are the hands free chat function where it can just tell when you start talking to people w/o taking the headphones off. Its hard to also metrically compare an IEM like the Airpods Pro 2 to a Headphone as the IEM has diff types of ear gain compared to a headphone which has more natural ear gains. There is a way to make them maybe sound more similar but thats never going to be the case as headphones tend to stage and image a little stronger than IEMs do. I do think for the price Sony does make a strong statement w/ the shear quantity of features. If you want to do the EQ correctly you cant just do it by ear, you need to look at a measurements graph and adjust using some understanding of the ear gain, midrange linearity, and a subjective dose of bass shelf and bass curve. Most of the industry is now some level of harman-like response (both apple & sony technically do this across all their headphones now, Harman publicized back in like 2017 this but companies have known about it for years it just wasn't so standardized until more recent, when audiophiles got ahold of the data & cheap hardware and started measuring everything). More than likely you also are adjusting EQ starting w/ highs and lows when you should be adjusting based on the mids. Almost all consumer audio companies do a thing w/ the mids and lower mids are more recessed by a few db creating a "v shaped" response rather than one w/ a more linear midrange. You should you reset the EQ by flattening out the mid range and adjusting to a more linear target. You can use LTT's measurements to get an idea on how to EQ them more directly (at least to LTT's target). Bring down the upper bass (200-400hz) like 1-2db and bring up the mids 500-1khz up like 2.5db. Start w/ a generally flat mid range 300-1khz, then you can refine how much general treble and bass Q & bass output you want afterwards. I frankly wish companies would just create a tool that establishes a flat or target midrange first and then guides the user on developing a personalized EQ afterwards. Focal does something pretty cool in app where it does create a personalized EQ based on personal hearing response sensitivity. https://preview.redd.it/tkn5nisp9e2f1.png?width=2826&format=png&auto=webp&s=ae3d3f5b7c2756ffb61c18cc3826c34f72355902
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →I've had my xm3 since 2019. Yes they will last
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Yes you can, this is called running them in 'passive' mode (as opposed to 'active' mode with the power on). You'd want an external DAC to replace the one inside the headphones or the sound quality will be poor. I have an old FiiO BTR5 portable DAC that I use with my XM3s and 4s sometimes, using this method I'm able to drive the volume of the headphones much higher than what the internal components can manage in active mode.
r/SonyHeadphones • View on Reddit →Same. Bought some inferior over ears and immediately returned the and took the plunge on the XM3s. They sound amazing and everyone who has heard them agrees. My only complaint is my small head and longer wear. They hurt the top of my head if I am wearing them for more than an hour or so.
