I'm very partial to the beyerdynamic dt770 pro. But best? Nah, ask one of these rich fellas 😂 But seriously, you don't really need to spend much more than a couple benjis on mixing headphones imo. If you want to splurge, look at expensive home monitors instead, monitor placement, bass traps etc. Your money will carry you much further that way

If not, sorry for the mistake. I am new to the audiophile world and I'm sorry if I ask stupid questions. The only headphones that I have are the DT 770 Pro and Fidelio X3. I plug/unplug them quite often to watch movies on my LG C2 that I also use as a monitor for gaming/Youtube/listening to music on my PC. Finally I also have a record player that I use only with my speakers because my headphones are too quiet and I have been too lazy to connect it to my DAC/AMP. I would like to do a little bit of cleaning to make the change between devices and headphones seamless. Ideally, I would like to be able to use my headphones to watch movies on my TV, play on my PC or listen to a record without having to plug/unplug anything but just by pushing two buttons, one to choose the device, the other to choose the headphones. I plan to buy a small audio output switcher for 3 or 4 headphones (currently looking into getting the Meze 109 Pro or Silva. The options that I have in my mind so far are: 1. Getting a 3+ audio input switcher to use between the three devices and my Fulla Schiit, but I'm worried about it being 3.5mm because my PC's motherboard had a lot of coil whine that I can only get rid of by using an optical cable or a DAC connectee by USB. 2. Getting a better DAC/AMP with three inputs that I can select by pressing a button. I did a little bit of research and, if I understand correctly, the Fiio K11 ($160), K11 R2R ($190), Topping DX3 Pro+ ($140) could do this. It seems to me like option 2 is probably the cleanest setup, but is that correct? Thank you for the time to read this.

Decided to do the same thing with headphones and micro. Stopped between dt770 pro and ath m50x. Went to the store to listen to both of them before deciding to buy anything at all aaand i liked m50x more - they have more "consumer-ish" sound imo: better bass, better highs, almost the same mid as 770 and there was limited color version that i really liked. While on the other side i felt like 770 are more suited for creating music, not listening to it - they show all the flaws in quality any track has.. https://preview.redd.it/ej8jb4j4snzf1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=518f65faf3c2f4903536eff1219da084c6b3a81e

1MORE SonoFlow Pro HQ51, ANC off EQ set to "studio". Comes close to my wired Beyerdynamic DT770 pro, and that says it all. Quite cheap. Good build quality, ANC mediocre, not many features. Simple but excellent sound quality.

That depends on what your preferences are. My DT770 is my everyday headphone due to its great comfort and tank-like durability, but I find the FT1 thumps a bit more and has a tuning more suited to general music listening. I don't know if I'd consider it an upgrade though. The DT770 takes EQ very well so you can shape them however you'd like.

If you're looking for decent wireless noise cancelling in that price category you can always grab a pair of Soundcore Q30 (or 35 if you can get them used/on sale) For plain old wired headphones in the $30-40 range you can always snag the Koss Porta Pros, or the KPH30i. They sound much better than you'd expect, especially if you swap out the pads. Moving up the price range you'll find things like the Audio Technica ATH-M50x (Wired or Wireless), Grado SR60/80 (Wired), Beyer Dynamics DT770 (Wired). These all sound different, ATH being more bass, Grado lots of Treble, and Beyers are flat. If you like thumpy headphones you can absolutely enjoy Skullcandy Crushers, or Marley over ears. The latter have a pretty solid build quality whereas the other are more affordable. Everyone has a preference, so just enjoy what sounds good to you. I would probably shy away from unreviewed no name headphones like those you linked, though!

You make a very valid point. There are for sure headphones with 'better' bass. My DT 770 Pro and 900 Pro x have more textured and layered bass, so the quality is better. I think for their time, the xb500s but out a higher volume of bass than many headphones on the market, we are talking over a decade ago though. I bought my second pair about 10 years ago off eBay for around $200 USD, so they had gained some type of status as they originally retailed for ~80.

These are what I have along with a Schitt DAC/AMP. I mostly play DayZ where hearing is paramount. I hear motherfuckers sneeze from 40 meters away lol. Like most things in life; you have to find the balance between cheap gets you crap and diminishing returns. The DT770-pros are very good for a $200-ish pricetag and beyond maybe a couple hundred dollars more you're buying enthusiast level crap, branding and bad value. I've heard "audiophiles" say at most $400 is where diminishing returns on headphones are.

Not even a little, no. Buy a FiiO BTR17 or something similar and then buy the best cans on the market (whatever that is to the reader) and that might be. The DT770 are pretty cheap and are easily bested. I don't really use mine anymore, the HD58X Sennheisers just destroy them on every metric. But hey, I'm sure it sounds good, and I'm glad you're happy, but best, no.

honestly, its still extremely bad. somehow all reddit people know to name only the worst headphones on the planet. momentum 4 ... ts... all the marketing stuff pushed onto people. while the real studio geeks only talk HD599/Dt770/Hd600. basically the xm6 only wins from childs headphones. factually the sennheiser HD599 (can be had new for 100 dollars some places), is far overboard better than the xm6. and the HD600 is worlds ahead. and believe it or not. when you upgrade frequently, you eventually pass over the price of some of the bestheadphones around. such as the focal bathys (if you truly have to be wireless), but you wont ever overcome a HD600, or a focal elear. and if you are really rich, the yamaha yh5000se is the best. the xm6 is highly overrated and not even better than the sennheiser HD280. if a headphone hsa a generation number, your quaranteed to be fucked by the company. those are the worst options to choose from. Get a focal bathys now, and youll earn it back, skipping generations, or if you really love your music: i dont even recognise my music for music if it aint on a HD600 or better. on the xm6, music is just noise to me.

I have both. I prefer the 770's more for a couple of reasons. 1) they're more comfortable on my noggin and over my ears. The 770's cups are a little bigger. 2) the 770's sound slightly more open to my ears.

Sennheiser Momentum 4. I use them the most and they are the most versatile. Even though I also love my LCD X (too heavy though and not useful when others are around) and my Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro (they're great but they're wired so can't easily take them out with me unlike the M4).

I'll offer some different options: I use Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80ohm and they sound great and are comfortable too for many hours of gaming though they aren't wireless and don't have the best noise isolation. I also have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4 which are great for music but in gaming at least wireless and out of the box they sound crap (just in games). Maybe they need some fine tuning Idk. The Sennheiser Momentum 4 have a great battery life though of 60 hours and good microphone and excellent noise isolation, but again I'm not sure why they sounded bad in games for me while wirelessly.

I've owned both. Momentum 4 is way better imo. As for bass. Momentum 4 has better bass. Xm4 has way too much. Dt770 has too little. I still like my dt770 the most, though. It sounds much clearer and wider, imo. I'd say it feels more balanced than the others mentioned.

I use the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros with a Schitt DAC/Amp. Together probably cost around $300. Another $100 for a Blue mic and boom. Probably overkill but I have extremely good directional hearing which is very important in a game like DayZ. I've had an enemy who was ratting my building give their position away by sneezing, or hear players crouch walking through the woods or a building. Also mic/headphone combos are 🤢

There are places that can convert it to a detachable cord. I'm not sure how much modding it costs vs just buying something else. The 770 Pros are what introduced me to higher end audio. I still love them as they are on a stand next to my laptop right now. I use them when I need isolation vs my open back 900 Pro Xs. I also have a few good pairs of Bluetooth headphones. They don't match my wired in terms of sound quality, but they have their place. Anyway, didn't mean to go on a tangent just to say I agree, each pair of headphones has their use case scenario. I love my 770 Pros despite the cord as well.

First of all bluetooth is lossy and can have latency so not that good for either audiophile or gaming. The term audiophile headsets is generally used about cabled headsets hooked up to an interface. The advantages are what Prestigious-walk describes, clarity and dynamics are better. The cabled headsets can vary a lot in power requirements and that power requirement should be checked against the interface you have that will power them. For example the beyerdynamic dt 770 pro that has three varieties, 32ohm (can run from a phone 3.5mm jack), 80ohm and 250ohm (heaviest to drive). You are entering a rabbit hole ;)

I went from gaming headset to a DT770 about 10 years ago, went through all sorts of different headphones, amp stacks and went down the rabbit hole for a bit. A couple years ago I sold my DT1770 and Schiit stack in favor of the Audeze Maxwell. great headset but it has some issues. Not at all as good as the hype wants you to believe.(Music is amazing, gaming is OK, Durability of those drivers is shit, software is even shittier) Started using that at work for music listening and calls instead and got a basic Steel Series Arctis Nova 7 at home. Also decent, especially for the price. Recently I got an audio interface to fuck around with my guitars and amp plugins. And I tried my old DT770s again through that. The sound is so much clearer so I'm back to using studio headphones again. Thinking I'm gonna get the DT700 and throw those old DT770's back into my drawer, always nice with a backup I guess.

Others made good suggestions and I will second the 599 and the DT770 for comfort. For frequent moving around others have suggested BT adapters. I am wondering if you would consider a modular cable system like Hart Audio Cable provides. I just their long interconnect on the equipment side and the 18" cable on the headphone side. I get up a few times an hour and the quick disconnect works well for me.

Sealed back headphones are going to be bad because they will have bass resonances, and are usually designed to do so in a way which exaggerates the low end. It's desireable for consumers but not great if you are trying to get a relatively flat mix. I find the AKG K240 open back headphones are very neutral. I'd also put the Grado SR60 in the same general category of neutral open back cans. The Beyer DT770 are really good for tracking, but they have a notch around 4k or so and another in the low mids that will trick you. Stuff I mixed on the road sounded pokey and harsh on good monitors. BTW K240s are about $80 most places. Much cheaper than most of the suggestions on here.

A cheap scarlett focusright can boost your headphones to 80 or 250 ohms. I switched from gaming headphones to the beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 and i could not be happier with that decision. The beyerdynamics are built to last and the only bad thing about them is the fact it doesnt have a microphone. The dt880 are great too but definitely do your research if the closed back or open back shells suit your needs better. Cant go wrong with the beyerdynamics tho.

it won't have Bluetooth but beyerdynamic dt770 is one of the headphones I've used forever, they're basically indestructible too. The top end on most beyerdynamics is kinda strange and some audiophiles don't like them but it's something you'll only be bothered by if you have a lot of experience

For me a few hours is not even enough for some cases. I got a Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm as my first audiophile, studio headphones (I'm not a studio worker). They blew me out compared to some cheaper 40€ headphones I had before and all the other headphones I used to have as a kid. Then I bought Senn Momentum 4 and switched from Youtube to Apple Music at the same time. The difference was quite visible but I don't think it was just from switching from Beyerdynamic to the Momentum 4, the source - Apple Music on iPhone, probably made a bigger difference. Then I bought the Audeze LCD X and for the first month I couldn't notice any difference because I'm o expert in audiophile equipment. But oh man as my brain used to them in 1-2 months I could finally see the differences compared to my 2 other headphones! So I think the best way to test new headphones is to test them for a month or more! Brain burn in is kind of real!

I've been working with the 770s for about 5 years now. They're really good, but I find they make the audio "small". Not tinnie, or less loud, just a feeling of smallness. Recently, I've switched over to the 990s and they feel much fuller, so I recommend them.

My first 'wow' moment headphones were the DT 770 Pro. They are amazing for their price and sound even better plugged into an amp. I'm using the ifi Zen DAC V3. My current 'end-gane' setup is the same amp but with DT 900 Pro X. The sound is just incredible and you will have a hard time finding headphones at either price point as the two mentioned above that sound as good, they are out there though but I don't know which one's they are. Your best bet is to go to local stores and test out as many as possible so you know what sounds good to your ears.
