A lot of people praise the HD 800/S as the best but I prefer my DT 1990 Pro (OG). Unlike a lot of people, I like the treble spike as it brings out detail in the games I play. The mids and bass are good too. If you're gonna buy them, I recommend looking at these as well: For even an even better Beyer sound signature - [https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-beyerdynamic-dt-series-fenestrated-elite-sheepkin-ear-pad-set/](https://dekoniaudio.com/product/dekoni-audio-beyerdynamic-dt-series-fenestrated-elite-sheepkin-ear-pad-set/) For extended bass and warmth - [https://dekoniaudio.com/product/elite-hybrid-ear-pads-for-beyerdynamic-headphones/](https://dekoniaudio.com/product/elite-hybrid-ear-pads-for-beyerdynamic-headphones/) For the OG - you'll need a DAC/Amp. For the newer versions, you won't.

My favorite headphones are the meze elite, and they share a lot of similarities to the 105 aer as said in another comment. Other headphones I tend to enjoy on the daily are hd560s, hd6xx, dt1990 and the he1000 stealth. Although as I said, the 105 aer tends to be my daily pick. They sound amazing and are very comfortable! Edit: forgot about music. It depends somewhat on the headphone. The meze elite is very fun with movie scores and big symphonies, but on the daily i listen to anything from ásgeir to some Ren. 105 aer works for it all.

(Beyond that suggestion; generally people making music want headphones that are more "objectivist" in nature; i.e. that present the sound as it was recorded rather than coloring it. Generally, Sennheisers have a warmer than neutral sound. I love that tuning (as to a lot of people!) but it may or not be his cup of tea. Beyerdynamic makes a closed back (DT 1770) and an open-back (DT 1990) that are well-regarded for music production and mastering, but may be less pleasant for just listening to music.)

Got a pair of dt 1990 pro's which I use for music as well as gaming. If it's 10h a day, it's 10h a day- no issue. My glasses can get uncomfortable underneath, but that's not the headphones issue. When I got them the clamping force was too much, but since the earcups are held by metal arms I was able to slightly bend them and now they're basically always comfortable.

There is no best, it's subjective. Though I would generally prefer open-backs over closed backs, especially when you're just using them in your chair and not a noisy environment. "Audiophile grade" is also not a clearly defined term. There are a lot of good options available for under 1000$, I would recommend ordering a few different pairs and comparing them. Like, as far as open-backs are concerned, get a Hifiman Arya, Sennheiser HD 6XX and maybe a Beyerdynamic DT1990 (note that there's two versions, you can get some great deals on the older MK1 but it has a very spicy treble). If you really need/want something closed, your options will be more limited, you could try a Senny HD620 and Beyer DT1770. Personally, I think the AKG K702 (open) for 180 USD is an incredible deal, but some don't like the mid-heavy sound. And there's no doubt there are better headphones to be had for three or four times the price, but they won't really sound three of four times better, and whether it's worth it spending so much is up to you.

Depends how loud your keyboard is tbh. Closed backs for gaming are a lot better on PC. I had 1770 Pros for gaming/mixing before but there was a huge discount on 1990 Pros and the 1770 Pros had way too much bass for mastering I so went for those and gave the 1770 pros to my wife. I had to buy new keyboard because I had MX blues and gaming was horrible on open backs and loud switches. I still kinda prefer the 1770 for gaming tbh as they isolate better. For mixing and mastering the 1990 pros are perfect and for gaming as well after getting silent switches. But for budget I would go with DT 770 Pro 250Ohm and pair them with ifi zen dac v2. I made testing with 1770 Pros and 770 Pros on ifi zen dac V2 and the difference wasnt that huge I was expecting (the 770 were decade old lol). https://youtu.be/5nQ4Za2Qd6U?si=xCDnnywE-Gdw9lgS When it comes to gaming they are really good. I used to play a lot of competitive fps before (OW1, Cod, CS) and all games I played I reached top 1% so no complaining.

I use the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro's. I purchased mine for about $390, but they're so worth it. I've been using them a lot lately as I've gotten into music production, so they are really handy. P.s. They have software for EQ settings and customization, but unless you find a bundle, it's not included. Edit: My pair is open-back, but there is a closed-back option.

I did not here the DT 700 but the DT 900, DT 1770, 1990 and T1. The DT 1770 has emphazised lows and highs. Voices were faint and it was quite sibilant. Way preferred the DT 1990 out of all of them but finally settled with a Focal can. I always wondered why the DT 700 is traded as studio can because of the sounding.

I was in the exact same situation around this time last year and ended up going for the DT 1990 pros. You won't regret it! Mine are fantastic for gaming and most of the music I listen to (not very bassy, but still a huge upgrade on that front from the HyperX set they replaced). Just be prepared to fight the urge to buy a new set of hi-fi headphones every time you can afford it! The subtleties are what you get addicted to

You'll love them. I'm a beyerdynamic fanboy at this point. You'll pry my DT1990 pros from my cold dead ears. Some complain the high end is a little much on them. For me, having played in bands for years, and having some hearing loss, they sound great and open up the highs I lost over the years. You can also run peace or another eq to tweak the sound.

i dont use bluetooth if i can avoid it. i want wired on all my things. as for headphones i never used earpods. i had FULL over the ear headphones from like 9th grade on.... i never broke a wire. the wire was thick, id say slightly larger than a #2 pencil i also carried an amp with me off a 9v and later a lith ion battery. i built it into an altoids case for use with my creative nomad jukebox which i also took out the 10gb hard drive and copied over the first chunk of sectors to a new 120gb drive. man making playlists ON THE FLY with the volume wheel as a scroll button with modded firmware was A FUCKING GAME CHANGER!!!!! there was a time (10th grade?) that i took a motorcycle battery and put that into my backpack wtih a creative 2.1 computer speaker system. that shit bumped! you could feel it vibrate the floor in the halls when id set it by my friends lockers. anyway yea, i much prefer wired headphones. now days i have two pairs - a focal MG and a pair of beyerdynamic DT1990 iirc back in high school i had Technics DJ1200 K's

If you really are looking for a pair of wireless headphones like the flair of your post says, check out the Beyerdynamic Aventho 300! They've got a wide soundstage, a pretty balanced sound with punchy bass and use the same drivers as Beyerdanymic's studio headphones. Edit: Just saw your post mentions being open to wired options as well, definitely check out the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro MKII then! The Hifiman Ananda Nano are great too, they're a bit more "in your face" both in terms of their dynamics and the soundstage IMO, but I found them to be a bit less comfortable and they need an amp to sound their best.

I used DT990 Pro in studio and DT770 Pro for live for decades. Then the world changed and I had to rely more often on headphones for mixing, tried 990 + Sonarworks (now SoundID), then replaced the 990 by 1990 calibrated by Sonarworks. Then I tried Sennheiser HD650. With or without Sonarworks they're as close as flat as possible, they're a bit more expensive than 990 but not extremely. I wish there was a closed equivalent for live. Save money and directly buy HD650.

If you dont't need a built in mic, avoid any type of gaming headphones. Instead get something like the Beyerdynamic DT 770/990 pro, DT 700/900 Pro X, Sennheiser HD 490 pro for example. Open back headphones like the 490s, 9xx are better for competitive shooter due to their larger soundstage and precise positioning. May also be more fun for music and single player games. I'm using my DT 1990 pro for basically anything.

Dude, if you're looking for immersive, non-fatiguing open-backs that let you vibe for hours, the HD600s are actually a solid pick, despite what some say. Yeah, they're not bass monsters, but they have that clean, natural sound that just feels right for long sessions. If you want a bit more warmth and bass without losing that Sennheiser magic, the HD650s (or 6XX if you're in a Drop-friendly region) might be a better call. They're smoother, a little more laid-back, and easier to sink into. If you want something with more impact and soundstage, check out the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro-punchy, detailed, and works great with EQ if you wanna tweak the bass up a bit. Just be mindful of the treble; some people find it a bit sharp. Another sleeper pick? Hifiman Sundara-great planar detail, airy sound, and fantastic for long listening. Just make sure you've got a good amp to power them (same goes for the Senns). For an amp/DAC, Schiit Magni/Modi stack or Topping DX3 Pro+ would be a great place to start without going crazy on the budget. That might help narrow things down a bit more when further considering the type of music you usually like to listen to.

I have dt1990 pro mk1 and they simply don't work for gaming, i cannot connect with the game, i get no environment awareness, can't tell my own position in the game, but for music they're outstanding, it sounds very vibrant, any sound has a vibration, like feeling individual sounds touching my eardrum. Sometimes they can be bright AF, it takes time to get used to them, you may not like them instantly. I prefer them over my HD 800 any day. Also tried hifiman ananda nano for 2 days, the treble quality is insane but I dislike the bass, lower mids and mids on them, it sounds too thin/tiny, sounds don't have any weight, it doesn't sound dynamic. Worse than dt1990 pro for gaming, it sounds "screechy" wihout any warm/rumble and the imaging is awful for gaming, it's like playing with IEMs. Keep those Hyperx for gaming.

Planars are great. But if gaming is your main criteria, stick with dynamic drivers. Beyerdynamic 9 series (900 pro X, 990 pro, 1990 pro) Sennheiser 600 series ( hd600, 650, 660, 660s, 660s2, and including the 490pro) and 500 series ( hd560s is one of the most recommended options for gaming around here), Some of the audio technica ath-ad models. Specifically for competitive fps games, these are pretty much the best options out there at reasonable prices. Adding an amp like the Fiio k5 you mentioned is also a good idea with most of these. I personally like Sennheiser more because I listen to more music than I play video games, but I occasionally get called a cheater in r6 with my old hd600 + Fiio k11. If you don't care about music or other media, the beyers should technically be even better.

Had my DT 770 Pro since 2007. They are still putting in about 8 hours a day for work. The sliders snapped, but got 3d printed replacements for cheap and the pads have been replaced a few times due to my greasy hair fucking them up, but other than that, they have been rock solid. Upgraded to DT1990 for home use, and I don't expect to ever buy another pair of headphones. Both have Modmics on them, because I don't want to deal with a desk mic or mic arm, especially with 3 monitors. If you are not producing audio for publication, you don't need a desk mic imho.

Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser are probably my favorites like many others because they have the best all in one package of customer support, replaceable parts, plenty good sound (skip dt990). Thier build quality is basic but holds up very well. They also are not very expensive and if you do go for thier expensive models Hd800s or 1990/ t1 first or second gen then you get your money's worth

Yeah, they do make some stuff in Germany (the actual studio/professionmal equipment) - but the "newer" more mainstream focused products are (at least partially) made in China. both my DT1990s and 770s were made in Germany - but those are very much cable-bound and probably require an external DAC if you want to run them from a phone, the Lagoon ANC bluetooth headphones that I got are made in China. They'll be selling DT-series (Studio) IEMs starting this year that are manufactured in Germany.

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 paired to a stack of Topping E30 + L30. Hands down the best I've had so far... And I had a few: DT770 Pro, DT 700 Pro X, Sennheiser HD660S, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X, FiiO FH3, Sennheiser GSP 600, HyperX Cloud 3. I'm considering upgrading my amp/daca combo just for better aesthetics and a new pair of IEMs (Xenns Mangird Tea Pro). If you've got any questions, shoot them. From all my reading and watching reviews the best for competitive gaming are: 1. Sennheiser HD 490 Pro 2. Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X 3. Sennheiser HD 560S 4. For closed backs the only recommendatio I have are: DT 770 Pro (250 ohms version) or DT 1770 MK2 5. For IEM: Mangird Tea Pro For amplifier something like a FiiO K7... But this can be a vast subject and best to look it up yourself.
