Most keyboards come with either no LEDs or RGB LEDs so the backlight can be set to all red; single color PCBs are rare. Are you looking for aluminum or plastic? For aluminum, I would highly recommend the [Monsgeek M1V5](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjrNIGeNmnw), it's under your budget and would leave room to buy an extra set of keycaps if you want to further personalize it for him.

200 bucks is a big budget nowadays and will get you far (assuming you're not chasing GB boards). Wooting is great but they only cater to a very specific niche in the community. For what you need, I think a board like M1W V5 with Akko's Bittersweet switches would work wonders. Its described as a thocky/muted tactile switch. Most boards nowadays arent big on north facing LED's which your corsair board has. You'll more than likely end up with side-lit keycaps which personally I dont like because they all seem to gamery in terms of look. If you prefer your lights similar to the one in your corsair board where it lights the top of the keys. I would look into something like the ATTACK SHARK GK87 instead. Same switches I recommend. Keycaps can be whatever you want but basic backlit keycaps should do. I dont know what region would you be buying from but if you have access to Amazon, these should be available. Optionally, you could pick up any popular 75% to TKL keyboard that comes with non-backlit keycaps and just invest like 10 - 30 USD on a monitor light bar which I would highly recommend as it really transforms the desk and your eyes would thank you.

If you want feels premium, I can recommend Lemokey P1 Pro, you can check the HE (hall effect) version but more expensive. Another option without a knob but has hall effect, Keychron K2 HE special edition. If you want budget keyboard, you can check Aula F75. I can also recommend Rainy 75 Pro, this is aluminum build but the switches for on and off can be found under capslock. Both thocky and creamy sound. If you want low profile keyvoard and lightweight, might bring it at school, you can check Nuphy Air75 V3. For TMR version (for gaming and I think more durable), you can check Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR (there are two version and make sure it is the TMR one). What I don't like here is the switches can be found under capslock so a bit hassle. This one has a knob. Another option is Womier Sk75 TMR but without a knob, if you dont like knob. The ones with HE and TMR (latest tech than HE but not necessary obsolete) are into gaming focus. Same goes for P1 Pro, a custom keyboard for gaming but non-HE and non-TMR.

HE/TMR is a buzzy gamer feature that has resulted in a ton of boards that are meh coming to market and the amount of switch options you have is kinda limited, that's what you'd be getting with something like the thing you've linked. Mind you, it's gonna be a perfectly usable keyboard and you're probably gonna like it. Still way better than logitech . There are a bunch of EXTRA NICE ones like the Monsgeek M1 V5 or Womier SK75 or Lemokey P1 HE or Keychron Q HE series that have a metal chassis and had people spend time making them sound and feel and making sure they don't screw up the basics. I'd personally stretch the budget and get one of those but the MCHOSE is probably decent enough. The Womier isn't even that far off with current aliexpress discounts.

I think most of these are terrible recommendations. Why would you suggest random amazon boards in 2025 when boards like QK Neo or Cycle7/8 exist? I think monsgeek is fine but all the other boards you listed are kinda sus imo.

Monsgeek M1 v5 TMR uses Tunneling Magnetoresistance rather than Hall Effect sensors, which are more sensitive so they don't need to be centered on the switches. They take advantage of this by letting you mix and match magnetic and traditional switches.

Attack Shark has been fraudulently advertising their proprietary firmware as QMK so I wouldn't trust them. If you want a magnetic board the Monsgeek TMR boards have more sensitive sensors than the typical HE ones. That would be the M1 v5 TMR and Fun60 Ultra TMR. If you want conventional switches, QMK firmware is best-in-class, and the VIA and VIAL configurators are less restrictive than any proprietary drivers. I have a list of VIA-compatible boars on my [Github](https://github.com/ArgentStonecutter/keyboards/blob/main/via-boards.md)...

So far as I know only Keychron has a QMK-based magnetic board, though Monsgeek's driver is not terrible and the M1 v5 TMR has the ability to mix and match magnetic and traditional switches.

> and from the Reddit wiki the only trusted keyboard vendor is apparently redragon Um, that would be counterfactual. Their software is kind of limited and old and creaky. They have released a few QMK boards that are rather nice, the k717 is an excellent little 60%, but apart from the k717, k714, and k742 they're still using legacy drivers. The otherwise meh Royal Kludge has turned around and released new QMK/VIA versions of the RK61, R65, R75, and R87. I would recommend Akko/Monsgeek. And I would recommend ordering through Amazon no matter who you go with. Yunzii has some good boards, or Womier or Weikav. Disclaimers: Avoid Epomaker or Keychron unless you enjoy abusive customer support experiences. The Keychron website is a good place to browse layouts so long as you're just windowshopping. My mention of specific boards is not a general endorsement of Royal Kludge and Redragon. Most of their boards are completely ass, they just have a few recent boards with QMK firmware that are decent. If you go with Royal Kludge or Skyloong only buy those specific boards linked because they have older proprietary boards with the same model name. PS: If you're in Europe these are kind of amazing: * [Sharkoon Skiller SGK50 S3](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Sharkoon-Skiller-Barebone-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0F8HQFGVL) (€130) * [Sharkoon Skiller SGK50 S2](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Sharkoon-Skiller-Barebone-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0F8HXJJG6) (€140) * [Sharkoon Skiller SGK50 S4](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Sharkoon-Skiller-Barebone-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0F8HVQCQM) (€120) They also have plastic boards that are like half the price, but damn those wooden cases are sweet.

I just finished a Monsgeek M1 V5 silent build today. Swapped the keycaps with MT3's (just personal preference) from my old board and swapped the switches with Akko Fairy Silents. Very happy with it. Unsure of your preferred mix of silent and thocky, but this would definitely be on the silent side and not so thocky. There are some good sound tests online if you search them to get an idea of sound.

So, that's really a good question. The short answer, I think it... No. Is the Keychron Q1 HE an alright Hall Effect board... Yes. If you get it, you could be really happy with it. But the things you can get for around 200€ or less. I personally would get something that uses Wooting compatible switches since that's really where the market seems to be headed and I think that in the future you may want to change out your switches. Something like the Monsgeek M1v5 TMR ( [https://www.monsgeek.com/product/m1-v5-tmr-fully-assembled/](https://www.monsgeek.com/product/m1-v5-tmr-fully-assembled/) )is not only cheaper, but it also is a better HE keyboard (because of the TMR sensors), accepts HE and Mech switches, and includes certain QOL improvements, like the ball/catch for easy opening of the case, should you want to. Alternatively, in the 65% space, there's something that is premium but at a very reasonable price and that's the NEO65 Sonic HE ( [https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo65-sonic-he-hall-effect-custom-keyboard](https://www.qwertykeys.com/products/neo65-sonic-he-hall-effect-custom-keyboard) ). Which is only 105.oo (USD) for the next few days. This looks like it could be a really great board. It doesn't have everything that the M1v5 TMR has, but what it does have is a beautiful unibody aluminum case and great feel.

I really don't have the same problem with the RGB, the RGB for me has a really nice glow that I use for great effect with red semi translucent keycaps. Now I knew I was not going to stick with the keycaps when I purchased it, but they're not as bad as some of the other HE keyboards I have used. For the money, I think that the M1v5 TMR is really your best bet. I don't think that I can think of anything else that ticks all of those boxes. Keychron Nuphy, and QK do not have TMR, Keychron, Meletrix, and Glorious do not support standard switches. Wooting ad Geon don't have wireless. I'm trying to think of what's left. There something like the Cidoo C75, but the software on that is absolute trash and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. You might have to wait a while for someone else to put one out.

gaming and tactile kinda go against each other. Gaming wants Hall effect, which has to be linear switches. Sound may also be sacrificed for Hall effect depending, though they don't tend to be clicky, just muted and a little hollow sound wise. Mchose jet75 is a pretty decent cheap HE keyboard in white and what I would rec. Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR is also very nice, but no white variant at the moment.

Yeah, sorry, it is all preference. If you're liking the Tac then I think that's awesome. I was just talking from a baseline to someone who may not have interacted with a lot of Mechanical Keyboards. I just want to make sure that they know what they're in for. I tried the Akko Glare switches, which I think are basically the same as the AstroAim. I have the Mongeek M1v5 TMR and I like it, but there are some things that HE boards are basically still playing catchup

TMR keyboards like the Monsgeek M1V5 TMR, the Fun60 ultra TMR or the Womier sk75 TMR support (many, not all) HE switches as well as standard mechanical switches. So you could equip your gaming keys like WASD with HE and everything else with better sounding and feeling mechanical switches. Beware: Keychrons HE boards are also technically TMR but only support HE switches.

Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR is around $130-140 on Monsgeek website. It's 75%, aluminum top and bottom case, aluminum knob, TMR sensor (RT and SOCD capable) although the USB port is found in the middle. I would personally get this board but fell back to the VIA version since the TMR version does not support screw in stabs. Anyway if you want pure performance this thing has TMR sensors which are on paper better than HE sensors and even allows you to use mechanical switches.

Something that would fit the bill well would be the Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR. Are HE/mag/optical switches are worth it? I would say yes. They are an improvement over mechanical switches. If you're sensitive to latency there is a massive difference in responsiveness in terms of feel. And then all the other goodies like SOCD, rapid trigger, analog input that you just don't get with a traditional board. It would be an adjustment going back to mechanical switches for me. That being said they aren't satisfying to type on (any linear switch feels anemic to me). And you need to set up a typing profile because typing on .1mm sensitivity is wacky. They typically run the same price as a mechanical board and do offer a notable improvement so I think it's a no brainer.

The monsgeek M1 v5 tmr has terrible south facing rgb that are really dim. The stock keycaps are also terrible. The typing feel of the keyboard is great though so I must say that. I currently have it and might end up returning it due to the awful RGB. I am scratching my head as to what to get. No board has it all really. I want something with wireless support, knob, HE/TMR, ability to put Akko/Gateron Jade/Owl Labs TI HE switches. I would also want function keys so something like a 75 percent layout I am not sure what to get as this point

There are many many good options. Tbh, for what you want, something like an Aula F75 or Ajazz AK820 Pro is probably going to work just fine. If you want a nice aluminum case though and really high-quality stock switches and keycaps, I would recommend the Monsgeek M1W V3 or M1 V5.

Weikav Stars75, Weikav D75, Monsgeek M1 V5, PMO Wave75/Womier RD75 (same product). If you're looking for light linears like Graywoods that are much quieter I personally really like Chosfox Dune Foxes.

Look at the Monsgeek M1 v5, available in ISO or ANSI, shippable from DE, to DE obviously, with creamy purple switches, keycaps are dealer's choice. https://monsgeek.eu/products/monsgeek-m1-v5-via-diy-kit?variant=50625077739807

Well TMR switches would be the fastest switches available right now as far as i know, i have heard some good things about the "Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR" keyboards. What makes it the most interesting in my eyes is that you can use TMR switchs and/or normal mechanical switches. So if you want TMR for gaming but have some favorite mechanical switches for longer typing session you could swap the switches out. If it is the best TMR keyboard out there i dont know but it is the one i heard the most about. When it comes to HE keyboards they are all pretty similar in performance but people tend to prefer the software of the Wooting keyboards.

Just so you know. You don't need to buy a whole New keyboard to get the sound you want. Switches really do most of the work here. I personally don't like tactile but if you search around there will be some recommendations. Just swap them out on your keyboard and toss those reds in the trash

I got the monsgeek m1 v5 for £100 and love it wanna swap the switches as im not a fan of the thocky sound (silents for me as im that kinda guy) and just works better than my gmmk pro 75 plus being Bluetooth and wireless is the biggest sell point to me

Ok, for a 75%, exploded, ANSI keyboard with gaming features, check out the [Monsgeek M1 v5 TMR](https://www.monsgeek.com/product/m1-v5-tmr-fully-assembled/). This one takes both regular mechanical keyboard switches as well as magnetic switches.it has all the gaming features plus magnetic ball catch case disassemby. I've avoided gaming keyboards because of the crappy sound and feel and the limited, proprietary switch options. But this keyboard seems to have combined the best of both worlds here.

I think most of these are terrible recommendations. Why would you suggest random amazon boards in 2025 when boards like QK Neo or Cycle7/8 exist? I think monsgeek is fine but all the other boards you listed are kinda sus imo.

After doing tons of research, watched as many YouTube videos I could find (seriously) and read through hundreds of Reddit/Forum recommendations and I've come to one conclusion. Wooting is the single and only answer for HE keyboards. All these HE keyboards will never live up to a good custom board nor even a good prebuilt (rd75, rainy75, bridge75, HHKB, etc etc). The only thing you're buying an HE keyboard for is for the gaming software, and Wooting has the undisputed best software. Side note. I currently main an HHKB Type-S and HHKB Studio for non gaming. I originally bought a M1 V5 HE based on recommendations. This was the wrong decision, just passing my research along to the next person. Feel free to do whatever you'd like with it. Good luck with your decision.

A TMR board with a hybrid PCB is a good option if you're on the fence. You can have both magnetic and mechanical switches. The [Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR](https://www.monsgeek.com/product/m1-v5-tmr-fully-assembled/?srsltid=AfmBOooUe22X6ZNyY2MSro2_7S-eVbzhlTnfkmvpOZgiXMP5KnByBKlI#) and the [Womier SK75 TMR](https://womierkeyboard.com/products/womier-sk75-tmr-magnetic-keyboard?srsltid=AfmBOoofZUHfBi7wBO37DSFkFkA7noGPP4N9eCCt9t6_9bTvUuIg4o6c) are the 2 most popular options that offer the feature.

Monsgeek M1 V5 TMR.. amazing keyboard with rapid trigfer, but i use magnetic switches only on WASD because i love my tactile Holy Pandas on other keys :)) cheaper than Wooting and much better, full aluminium, gasket mounted, magmech support and TMR, which is even newer technology compared to Wooting hall effect amazing piece of gear ❤️
