That's just the truth. Same thing with keyboards, if someone has ever tried a good mechanical one and a membrane one, they'll know right away which is better. It's the same with headphones. This is coming from someone that has tried half the headphones on this list and only Cloud Alpha is decent, at most. A 20 dollar IEM will beat all of these, and I'm being completely serious here.

Cloud Alpha is the only decent one here, the rest are meh and Razer audio products are actually awful. There are better options than these that cost far less.

Clamp in Cloud 3 is fine. The other commentor forgets that it's a new headset. Cloud 2 also had clamp pressure when I first bought it. So does every headset on the planet. You will need to loosen the headset by either using it for a few weeks or putting it over a headset holder or just some books. Overall the Cloud 3 comfort is way better than Cloud 2. Having said that, I prefer Cloud Alpha's comfort to these 2. The ear cups of the alpha are so thick and nice

None bruv. Get the HyperX Cloud Alpha or the Corsair Void v2. Both have excellent build Quality and are very comfortable to wear for hours + they have very good mic Quality. You don't always need to spend more than needed

I hope a wired version comes out soon, I've got my Alphas currently hooked up to a mixamp pro, gives a much needed volume boost and would love to do the same with the 2s, I'd go wireless for convenience but I like things being too loud since I may be partially deaf

Second this! I've had my cloud alphas for over 5 years. I use them daily and they still sound and work great.

Hyperx clouds only because of how light they are. I work in music and have an amazing pair of audio technicas and even though they're not SUPER heavy, they really hurt my head during long gaming sessions.

Wish i still had my kingston hyperx, they sadly died, but are still my favourite headset I've ever had

Hyper x cloud alpha, they range anywhere from 80 - 100 bucks but definitely the best headset I've ever had. Extremely durable (not made with just plastic that snaps from stress) and the sound is amazing you can pinpoint where sounds are coming from very easily. Plus I prefer wired for less input delay or audio delay and so I don't have to charge it.

I had a HyperX Cloud II Wired headset which I loved. Eventually I wanted to go wireless and swapped to another (more pricey!) brand. I had several problems with it and honestly it was much less comfortable for my head. I missed my HyperX, so I bought the Cloud Alpha hoping it was essentially a wireless Cloud II. It is exactly that. I absolutely love it. The only way I would not recommend the headset is if you have above average sized ears. They fit a little smaller than many other headsets.

I've had both. My usage is upwards of 15ish hours per day for work plus gaming on average. The joint for the cloud 2 where the band meets the metal doesn't last longer than 15 months. That warranty has been used too often. I just got the cloud alpha and it's much the same so far, except it's louder and I can hear a larger amount of sounds off rip without modification that helps in games where you need to hear everything like tarkov. Oh I forgot, the sound of the mic in cloud 2s seems to be better clarity if you care about that I'd still get cloud 2 if I'm needing to save cash but preferably in going to buy alphas from now on. The 300 hour battery is insane.

who cares about sound quality for gaming.. i have audiphile headphone and i use it exclusivity for music. for gaming they are too big, unconfortable and the treble is fatigating. so its best to use hyperx alpha for gaming. it's lightweight, boomy bass is a plus to feel sound effects, i can wear them entire day, and its closed back so i dont hear gpu coil whine and the keyboard.

To answer your headset question, I have found the HyperX Cloud headset to be amazing... The battery life is witchcraft - you can go weeks without needing to charge. Decent sound quality as well and everyone online always compliments how clear I sound... HyperX did a great job with those. To everyone else discussing Headsets vs. Headphones: If it's amazing sound quality you seek, you will be disappointed again and again trying Headsets. You want Headphones! While sound quality is a focus for most companies making Headsets, they have Cost of Production to think about when it comes to designing the overall product. Essentially, they have a budget. Since Headsets have voice input and other factors such as compatibility with cross-platform and convenience of Wireless Technology, this budget gets spread thin... You will never find optimal sound quality in Headsets period!

Most gaming headphones are just cheap headphones sold at a higher price due to rgb or branding. Even cheap studio headphones would be far better. The old HyperX products like Cloud 2 and Alpha are based on studio headphones so they're not bad. Their new stuff is awful, though. And Razer in particular has the most overpriced headphones I've ever seen. SHP9500 would be far better than all of these and probably cheaper, too

I've had the Hyper Cloud X. The plastic part holding the earphone to the base has broken 2x. The first time they reluctantly replaced the headphones after a month of arguing. The second time they wouldn't. They don't sell the little plastic piece so you have to find a 3d printer to pay for them to be made. Total waste and won't buy their product again.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P for Playstation (has a blue headband). I bought and tested 5 different pairs when the Sony Pulse Elites came out (complete garbage by the way), and loved this one the most. I had previously had the HyperX Cloud Alpha wired headset for like 6 years before that which were also fantastic.

I should say I use the "alpha" which is the more expensive version. The mic it comes with is also great and is detachable

I like my wired hyperx also but recently got a steel series bluetooth been using that needed a new bluetooth headset since my turtle beach headset decided to crack on both sides after about a year

I absolutely love my hyperx cloud alpha s. Hyperx is a great product. The other versions as well. With some manual tuning using Sonar (steelseries sonar) it's incredible but that is not necessary. I don't find them uncomfortable but some people do after long sessions. It is really nice that you put so much time and effort into it. I am sure he will appreciate the gift no matter which you choose from our recommendations. Good luck!

They're right. That's why I said all their new products are bad. But Cloud 2 and Alpha were made before the acquisition. Their newer iterations may be less durable and feel cheaper but they still retain the same sound. That is to say, decent overall, very good when compared to other gaming headphones. The Alpha especially.

Hyper x cloud is what I use, they have a wired and wireless option. Sound is awesome , plus they are very comfy for loooooong gaming sessions. My ears never hurt during wear!

I use the steelseries arctis nova 7, while it's not bad...I personally haven't like it, I had hyperx cloud alpha before...they were ok, the volume was very low for some games, I'd probably try the sennheiser epos pc38x or the beyerdynamic mmx 330 pro for good sound quality

the hyperX cloud is a good fps headphones and have a decent mic

I've tried a HyperX Cloud in a store and didn't think it was that comfortable. I have a huge head and these are the only reasonably priced set that I can wear for hours in total comfort. The top band is well padded and doesn't hurt the top of my head like my former Logitech did. The ones on sale are leatherette ear pads, while my model has the neoprene ear pads. But comfort should be the same. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to the wireless version.
