I was searching the perfect 3D solution, too and i tryed it all. I end up with Gustard x18, Aune S17 Pro Evo and Hifiman Ananda Nano, optional with Dolby Atmos for headphone but you don´t need to waste so much money. Soundblaster x4 in is currently the best in gaming for 3D audio, Special with the Scoutmode. Sennheiser GSX 1000 2nd Edition driverless very very good. Both setup cheap and good with Beyerdynamics MMX Series Hifiman Ananda Nano was the best i hear for 3D Audio and take a cheap 2nd Hand ADI-2 DAC its the perfect precision on games, i doubt there is a better solution for this price.

my pick would be the mmx 330, 300 pro, or the pc38x, ps5 controller can easily drive these headphones, keep in mind the 330 pro and pc38x are open back headphones ( allows air and sound to come through them, he will hear everything around him, people near him can sometimes hear his headphones) 300 pros are closed, but those are around $300, but you could find them on sale, pc38x is a popular choice doesnt have a cable as long as the 330 and 300 pros,

Im not exactly a "audio expert" but the MMX 330 Pro's were great in almost every aspect except the most important one. It was probably the most comfortable headset ive ever worn, the mic was incredible, it had really nice aesthetics, and sounded really clean though really sharp (like most beyerdynamics) the only thing it was missing was good spatial audio for footsteps and overall sound in gaming. anything that was behind me sounded like it was directly infront of me other than that it was great, probably the most well built headset ive ever owned and the most expensive for sure.

after my experience with them, they were great but when it came to competitive gaming there are tons of crappy headsets from the big brands that gave you better positional audio than that. Everything sounded like it was right next to you and it was nearly impossible to tell where the enemy was at based off of sound I could only imagine owning that headset for story games since it sounded so good

i think the imaging was ok it was the soundstage that was the issue, it was so bad in gaming that it sounded like everything was upclose so it was hard to tell how far right/left they really were ntm that open world games sounded like i was in a closed room. It really sucked switching because my music sounded so good but it was a dealbreaker for me. from my standpoint i would've kept it if i only played singleplayer story games

If you want a sleek wireless: audeze Maxwell (get the ps5/pc version since the Xbox version has dolby atmos aka more expensive snake oil) If you want a wired sturdy pair with longevity due to many replacement parts available: mmx300/mmx330 If you want the Absolut best sound I'd get a proper audiophile pair of headphones. However keep in mind that this means spending extra money on a dac/Amp. The mmx300 will definitely also greatly benefit of a dac/Amp. Cheers

The more expensive Beyerdynamic headsets, the MMX 300 and 330 Pro, both have fantastic microphones by gaming headset standards, but they're also *extremely* sensitive so you'll want to tweak that. A dedicated separate mic gives you the biggest flexibility because it can be paired with literally any headphone of course, and there's many different options for microphones, so you can absolutely get a mic that sounds better than the Beyerdynamic headset mics It comes down to preference, do you want the very convenient all-in-one package of a premium headset, or being willing to drop some extra money to get both a good headphone and good mic and also do deeper research into what will be the best two options for you.

Almost everything you say is correct... don't ask a streamer for audio advice (settings), just like asking for advice on headphones. They don't know anything about audio. They're gamers, not audiophiles, they don't know the technicalities, they don't even understand the response curve of their own headphones. The only thing I would say you're wrong about is your recommendations. Commercial brands may be good in terms of comfort and maybe even style, but when it comes to real quality sound, they're not the best, especially for competitive games like Warzone, Apex, CSGO. In these cases, the best headphones will always be wired, not wireless. Depending on the environment, where you know where the precise footsteps of up to three people are coming from at once (one person above you, one below you, and one to your side), more precise drivers and configurations are required. True professional audio headphones, not gaming headphones. These brands/models are good: Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3 beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO Sennheiser HD560S beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X Audio-Technica ATH-R70x beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R Cooler Master Diadema Gamer MH751

These are the best options for competitive audio. You can research the ones I'm going to recommend one by one and decide which one is best, also according to your budget. These aren't selling you a brand, they're selling you real audio. Those who will respond best are audiophiles. This would be my answer too (assuming you're okay with open-back headphones, which the MMX 300 are as well). The [HD 550](https://us.sennheiser-hearing.com/products/hd-550) is a great headphone and one of the best releases Sennheiser has had in a while. The fact that you can just buy the [HD 500 BAM](https://us.sennheiser-hearing.com/products/hd-500-series-boom-arm-microphone?srsltid=AfmBOorZqkuybKgnWmJBwoCu4j8UB528DRc3YF0hoooX74_GfoXoaI-M) for any HD 500 series headphone (and the [HD 660S2](https://us.sennheiser-hearing.com/products/hd-660s2)) really opens up your options (there are a lot of good headphones in the Sennheiser HD 500 series). The HD 550 does benefit from an amp as well, so I'd grab something like a Schiit [Fulla 2](https://www.schiit.com/products/fulla-2) (or [Gunnr](https://www.schiit.com/products/gunnr) if you have the budget) to go with it. The Schiit gaming DAC/amps are pretty good units that also have good quality microphone inputs (most 3.5mm microphone inputs are pretty low quality). One other note: The Beyerdynamic MMX 330 is also a great option if you're looking for an open-back. I wouldn't take it over an HD 550, but it's still a solid choice.

I use the mmx 330 for many years and I'm happy, I bought a new pc this year and thought I don't need my outdated soundblaster z card. But I was soooo wrong. So if you use a studio headset, you need a better sound card internal/external to use them properly.

Coming with quick update - got MMX330 today and sad to say, but after 1-2h of testing, messing around with EQ and what not, they subjectively sound worse than my old PC363d for some reason. They have less clarity and are more "muddy"? Feeling like everything I listen to is lower quality, additionally they are less comfortable due to the fact that my whole ear isn't covered by the earmuff like in Sennheisers. Going to return them and will probably test 560s, it turns out I underestimated my old pc363d as I was expecting a tangible difference in sound and in the end they sound better to me than those Beyers... got me stunlocked today I admit.

The Audeze have a very good audio quality, but are not ideal for locating opponents. The headphones are also quite heavy, as they are almost entirely made of metal. It doesn't bother me because they are comfortable. I own the DT 1990, so I know roughly how well you can locate opponents with the MMX 330. I think the MMX 330 offers the best location and very good sound. But I suspect that at least of the wireless headphones, the Maxwell is currently the best on the market. You can also locate opponents well with it, but almost certainly not like the MMX 330.

If it can be wired: Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro (or 300 if you don't like open) I don't use it on console, but on PC this is crazy good for me :) Comes with a 2.5m cable and has an adapter for the PS5 audio jack In Germany it's 300€ or less, I can't tell about other countries

Beyerdynamic MMX series are the best gaming headsets I've tried. Some people think I have a proper studio microphone. And the sound of the headphones punches way beyond its price point. They have no software and work perfectly with Linux. Otherwise I'd recommend some proper headphones and a separate microphone.

I just bought and tried the MMX 330 Pro and I can tell you, they're probably what you're looking for. I also own the Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X for around two years now, and even though the same sounds seem to be slightly better/clearer on the DT 900 Pro X (this might just be my imagination but I think it isn't), the MMX 330 Pro really come close to that. And they hav a microphone. DT 900 Pro X-esque headphones with an attached boom mic, that's pretty much what you get with the MMX 330 Pro. But I'm personally not sure whether I'll keep them, because... even though they're good, they kinda don't make sense. Or at least it doesn't make sense for me to keep them, because I already have DT 900 Pro X and spending 300$ on something that's almost the same but with a mic is stupid. I like them, but they're not what I was looking for. The DT 900 Pro X are studio quality headphones (entry-level-somewhat, but very good ones, and you don't need an amp for either of these headphones thanks to the .45 stellar driver). The MMX 330 Pro are therefore something like a weird hybrid of studio quality sound (but not quite) and a microphone that gets the job done (sounds alright and clear, but has its limitations. It still picks up noise and looks very basic and is worse than a proper microphone, which however would need good placement and/or more equipment and would be less convenient/simple to handle I guess). But the problem is that you can get very comparable sound and a very comparable microphone for less money, even in headsets (there are comparable options that perform similar, or are cheaper, or both). Then again, sound signature and the way you perceive sound is very subjective. They're sort of a niche, potential sweet spot. If you want to spend that money on that headset (headset usually means trade-off between headphones and microphone), then you'll get pretty much one of the best headsets that are currently available on the market, BUT at a not so good price-performance. 1. Even for the same money, some combinations of headphones + microphones might sound better and/or are more convenient 2. Since a headset is headphones and microphone in one, both of them can only get so good before individual solutions outperform them. My text got quite long, therefore I hope that my point is clearer to you than it is to me. Cheers.

For Gamers, $300 dollars is overpriced, gamer tax, My opinion is that $300 should buy an excellent headphone, even wireless. It will if you get past the "Gamer" focused cheap plastic crap. You can get a great headphone for around 350-400 easy, even less. If OP will be happy with cables, Beyerdynamic even has the MMX 330 Pro, which is a headset for around 300, Headphones in the same quality, or even better sound range can be had for 150-200, and some of the best "budget" headphones for gaming can now be had for 300 in the first gen Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro/DT 1770 Pro/ DT 177X Go (from drop) if you shop around. I would recommend some Sennheiser or other brands, but IMHO, build quality isn't quite the same in those at the same price point.

While the Maxwell are the best option in their class overall, especially if audio quality is a criteria, specifically for competitive fos games you want dynamic open backs. I don't how you would connect them to the ps5 (I'm sure they make dacs specifically for it) but check out both Sennheiser hd600 series ( which includes the hd38x, the hd490pro and several 600 variants - 600, 6xx, 650, 660, etc) and the 9 series Beyerdynamics ( dt900, 990, 1990 ). Source - me, have both Audeze and Sennheiser speakers and play a lot of fps. The Audeze are simply better for almost everything. Except footsteps in competitive fps games. Edit: just saw that you need a headset not just headphones - both Sennheiser (EPOS brand, PC and GSP series) and Beyerdynamic (MM, Tygr) have "gaming" options. You can also add audio-technica to the list too, they also have multiple options that will fit.

Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro would be my top recommendation, I cannot recommend it enough. MMX 300 pro if you *really* need closed back but I would really suggest open back. I've tried a few of Sennheisers best reviewed headsets over the years, including the Game One, the Drop PC38X, the GSP 600, and at least 20 of their headphones. They are fantastic in their own right but I seriously think Beyerdynamic headphones on average sound noticeably better and more neutral.
