Garmin seems to stop supporting their watches with new features within around 18 months of release. Also with the new Garmin connect subscription service, who knows how many things they will decide to lock behind a paywall in the future. The Coros Pace Pro processor is also better than the one in the FR--lots of people complain about the Garmin lagginess when moving around the maps. And for me personally, I'm trying not to support any US based companies due to the current administration.

They are a Chinese owned brand, if that matters. I have found it to be really accurate and reliable and a huge improvement on my old Fitbit charge 4. They undercut the market, which is good because the price of some of the other brands watches is kind of insane. And there is no need for a subscription or anything. The data that is available, dashboards etc. are all in the app and don't need any additional money to be paid to access them. At least not yet. I would recommend them, but obviously do your research and make a decision. DC rainmaker is a YouTuber who seems fairly reliable and makes good reviews videos. Though to be honest, it's kind of hard to go wrong. Whatever is your budget, whatever brand you go with. Especially if you're new to it, it is highly probable that you will only use a fraction of the features available so you'll be satisfied with whatever you go with I think. The build quality of the pace pro is good, lots of different watch faces to pick from, feels really premium. Had it a few months now and I'm happy with it. Should last a few years.

I've just moved from a Pace 3 to a Nomad and, honestly, they're cracking pieces of kit. I've not had any issues with them since moving to Coros watches in February. For trails I would lean towards at least the Pace Pro or the Nomad/Apex 4 (they're basically the same) simply due to offline maps. Either way, Coros or Garmin, there's a device that meets your needs at a price you are willing to pay.

If you do any treadmill running, Coros handles those better. The Pod 2 is quite accurate, and if you chose to enter the treadmill distance at the end of a run Coros recalculates the distance/pace for all your splits. Garmin only modifies the total distance for calibrations made after ending your run.

Garmin and Coros are the top of the industry for heart rate and fitness watches. Frankly Apple Watches aren't even comparable. That being said there has been some research that shows heart rate wrist monitors on these watches aren't accurate all the time. The new ones with the latest technology seem to be pretty damn accurate in my experience. If you're interested in heart rate training I highly suggest a garmin or coros and then pair it with a chest monitor. You can get a chest monitor and pair it to your watch for like $75-150 bucks but like the watch it should last years. Smart watches are not BIFL IMO

I've had and loved garmin forerunners and a coros pace. Slight preference for coros over garmin for battery life. Slight preference for garmin for multi-app interoperability. I'm actually planning to buy an Apple Watch because it's fine as a fitness tracker and has better health tracking capabilities on top of the fitness stuff.

I use Form Goggles or a Coros pace watch. The Coros track well and can do structured workouts. And having access to my distance, pace, heart rate, and workout time available is really cool

r/Swimming • Swim watches? ->

For me I use Training Peaks for collecting all my data. I have a coros pace watch for tracking strength workouts, running, and open water swims. I have a garmin for riding the bike out side. On the bike I have a garmin cadence and speed attachments. And for my peddles I have polar power meters. A Tac X Neo for training on the bike inside. Form goggles for tracking my pool swims. For structuring workouts I use Training peaks for a ATP (year plan). TrainerRoad for bike workouts, Form goggles for swimming workouts. And for the strength and running I enter them into the coros watch app. I've gotten the gear over time. If I had to start from scratch I would just use my Coros Pace 3 to track everything and pick up one thing at a time as I got the funds.

I had a Garmin 55 and moved on to a Coros Pace Pro for running, biking and kayaking. I go on up to 10 day kayak camping trips. I rarely need to charge the Pace Pro. I average 5 hours of kayaking per day with a day or two of no paddling. I mostly paddle in Canada and GPS is dead on during my trips. The Coros is also bargain priced compared to Garmin.

Garmin has already stopped major updates for the FR-255 (there would still be secure updates and other bug fixes but nothing new) for all versions below the F8, F8 pro and the most recent FR-970 (570). M In this case I suggest Coros watches which regularly update their watches with recent major updates.

They're about even on battery life. Garmin says the 965 gets up to 23 days (not counting activity tracking), and the most battery-intense activity settings give you 10 hours. Coros says the Pace Pro gets 20 days and 10 hours respectively. These estimates aren't precise enough to worry about the 3 days' difference on the daily use number, so I'd consider this a draw.

I rely on my watch (Coros), but you're almost always going to run more than exactly 26.2 in a race unless you're running the tangents perfectly and there's literally nobody in your way. My last full clocked in at around 26.7 miles.

Additionally, Coros Pace Pro have True Map navigation and also have "Phone mirroring" which the latter can be used as alternative for Bike computer but also can be used for Running / Trekking if you want bigger screen. I believe this is one edge of Coros vs Garmin.

Its about as good as you are going to get. Apple does lock certain features to apple watch only - so an apple watch ultra 2 is an alternative option you can look at - as does include recreational diving features - but not as much as the fenix 8, and you can cover the gaps the F8 misses via 3rd party apps - but does leave out the cohesive eco system garmin provides - and considering that you barely mention any smart features would then say you are looking at the right watch (definitely from fitness tracking and progress tracking point of view). Fishing - actually it does - you can log your catch and log the spots where you catch..... [https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-EECCAC99-90D6-4AB1-9A3A-EC433D3365E2/EN-US/GUID-A6881EE1-DB08-4922-925F-C7526EFAE8A2.html](https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-EECCAC99-90D6-4AB1-9A3A-EC433D3365E2/EN-US/GUID-A6881EE1-DB08-4922-925F-C7526EFAE8A2.html) and then you can used those saved location spots to navigate back to them at any point (can be very useful for fishing holes whether out on the water or fishing from bank/beach). All garmin have a built in coach for running - think C25K but does up to half marathon distance, then F8 incldues a Daily suggested workout option which you can then add a race event to it, to get the DSW to try and get you to peak for your event - so if you want a hassel free experience and a watch to build your training programme - hard to beat what garmin offers. Hiking- get offline maps and offline navigation (think satnav from car on watch) - so can create routes and get tbt directions on watch and via audio. Plus love the climbpro feature. Maps will work with all outdoor activity so can use for paddling as well as running / hiking etc (have a couple of paddle routes for when on canals / rivers especially canals in towns - great way of seeing parts of a town via water). So yes there isn't really anything else that comes close to matching it. Nearest alternative options would be apple watch ultra 2 (and losts of 3rd party apps); polar grit/vantage and coros pace pro /apex pro / vertix all include built in training systems and with training metrics and analytics like garmin to track progress; suunto at this stage is training metrics and analytics - though their suunto ocean is a full dive watch (garmin equivalent is the descent mk3 which is basically a fenix with full dive capability);

For me getting a watch gave motivation to continue running and aim at bigger and bigger goals. 10k became half marathon, then marathon and now my focus is ultras. I don't think there is any magic watch and they will probably all tree be great. Someone mentioned a cheststrap for puls measuring. I clearly prefer the arm strap from Coros it is accurate and much more comfortable to wear.

For the main functionality, including maps, the Pace Pro does it all at a lower price. The 965 has a few extras, and handles music better, but none of that would be a deciding factor for me personally. Is there anything specific you're looking for in a watch?

People are being a bit mean, but basically if you are not having battery life issues with your Pace Pro, then there is ZERO reason to switch to the Nomad or Apex. They are likely all using the same processor. They will all have the latest features (basically the more detailed maps) that are missing on models with older processors. And they are all likely using the same GPS, and heartrate hardware. If you don't need multi-day gps tracking between charges (i.e. hiking, or ultra running) then you would likely find the Nomad or Apex a downgrade. The screens are lower resolution, less bright, and have much less vivid colors when compared to the Pace Pro.

I was trying to decide between the 255 and the pace Pro. These devices are very similar with a few exceptions. Do you need mapping? I decided on the Pace Pro because I wanted to try a different platform. I do think Coros training hub and the range of running plans available through Coros are superior, especially in number, to Garmin.
