Get a wireless microphone system with a 3.5mm plug, something like the Rode Wireless ME. Plug it into the mic input on the laptop. It runs on 2.4 MHz, not Bluetooth. Interference could be a factor but at the ranges involved in presentations, I have never had a problem with my Rode wireless mics.

I recently went from the Hollyland Lark M1 to the Rode Wireless Pro. I'm certainly no pro but it's worth the extra money from my perspective. I'm doing outdoor/bike-related Insta/Youtube content on different devices - phone, Insta360 Go3, Sony A6K depending on the location. The M1 used to clip heaps and would pick up so much wind noise even with wind protection. The Rode I can do voiceovers on the bike in 50km/h winds and it's super clear. I also no longer have to use the phone for recording on all devices, I just use the Rode on-board recording and sync audio later on.

I've seen some videos using the DJI Mic 2 and they sound quite good as well. I think it's hard to go past for someone already in the DJI universe. And they are smaller if you're wanting to mount directly instead of using a lav. The Rode doesn't have noise cancelling but I have the GainAssist (auto-gain?) function turned on. I have recorded from both internal mic and the included Lavalier II - the lav seems a bit better and you can hide it easier. I just use the receiver to monitor the levels but could be plugged into a phone as well. Here's a quick example comparing the Go3 onboard mic to the Rode Wireless Pro w/ Lav II. I clipped the lav under my T-shirt with just the foam cover and it seems to work well. The fluffy cover out in the wind (clipped to the collar) is very similar - I just wanted the mic hidden for other shots where you can see me. [https://youtube.com/shorts/fRNDxKEuuK0](https://youtube.com/shorts/fRNDxKEuuK0) I should do a comparison with the Hollyland as well - it is good for the price, just wanted a little step up after getting a few videos under my belt.

Purchased! Thank you for the suggestion. I knew in my gut which one to get, but I just want confirmation. I do like the mic 3 but doesn't look like it will give me as many options as I grow and learn how to use these correctly. They are all around the same price too. I ended up getting the RODE pro two mix set for $299. I can record ambient sounds from one mic with on board storage and the other one clipped to me recording with the camera not recording to on board storage. Not sure I need to do both mics this way. It sounds like the one recording ambient noise should be recorded onboard. What if I try to transmit the shotgun mic over wireless, do I lose most of that audio quality? Sorry for the poorly worded question lol

I had 2 pairs of DJI mics (1rx 2tx) combos and the output jack of the receiver wore out on both, the cable wasn't able to be held in fully seated after 2 years of heavy usage for 2 years. DJI fixed them both honouring the warranty, but it's a thing to keep in mind to treat them well. Now I moved back to Rode (the very expensive Wireless Pro). Also Hollyland is very worth the price, their gen 1 stuff was so better than the rest of the pack at the time.

I also had 2 sets of DJI Mic 1, sold them because their capsules are so crap compared to rode's, even the mic 3s produce a worse result audio-wise, on the rodes the actor can scream in the microphone and they don't clip, the djis start distorting as soon as somebody laughs

I don't really get the naming convention. This is a downgrade for me as a professional. I just sold my Rode Wireless pro which has 32bit, a locking 3.5mm jack, but it was bulkier. I'm currently looking at Holland Max 2 since it is modular with the jack and the size it's ok. The DJI mic 3 is a lot like their mini and the Holland Mark M2, plus the 32 bit and timecode features at triple the price. Very unexpected

Are you looking for on camera shotgun mic? or wireless lav mics? I use the Rode Wireless Pro for lavs and I've liked them quite a bit. Range is good, sounds is good, kit comes with a lot and they record internally for a backup if the sinal cuts. For on camera shotgun I use the Rode Video Mic Pro and it's also great though I think I'd like to try the Sennheiser MKE 400 I've heard good things and I don't wanna have to keep buying 9v volt batteries for the Rode. Also I have a Rode NTG 5+ and with an xlr to 3.5mm cable I've used it with my Z6III succesfully so I guess that's an option too if you need a longer or ofcamera shotgun.

This is the way. Just to add I'd look for the RODE mini if you're going with them since it's more inline with the iphone shooting style. If you're planning on moving on to shooting on a camera at some point I'd save up for the wireless pro.

I'm so guilty of this, my rode wireless pros have the lavs and I use them if I'm not in a rush but with the little magnet and popped onto your shirt (better if it's black) is just super efficient. If it's not a noisy space though it's just going to be shotgun mic all the way

In theory, you can definitely transmit a shotgun over wireless. Just plug into the TX. You don't get 32bit float over wireless, but you can transmit the sound. My most common use for the Rode Pros is having a tx on talent (I also like to pair with a Rode SmartLav, but the included lavs are totally fine) while feeding the RX into the camera body. Recording on the TX, of course. That's at least a nice back-up audio source. I also like to split channel a Rode VideoMic NTG along with the TX. So on the video file, the audio has the shotgun on one channel with the wireless mic on the other. A bit more work in post but it gives me options for run & gun.

I've had some issues with the rode wireless pro into my fx3 and I've seen others have the same interference issues. The audio top handle solved all my problems. But when plugged direct into the body it took a while to get it sounding good. Unless you're using the audio top handle, make sure to do plenty of tests. After some testing I found mounting it on the cage and using a longer shielded cable worked fine. Also turned off the Bluetooth in the fx3. I use the deity w.lav pro and the countryman B3 lavs and both sound good. The b3 is quieter so if you know you'll have loud action I'd go for that. For very loud sounds (shouting or very loud stage performers) they make a reduced sensitivity version as well but I have the standard version. For a shotgun, it depends if you plan to hardwire or if you plan to use the wireless pro? The rode wireless pro doesn't provide 48v phantom power so you'll need to solve that problem somehow. When wireless booming I've used the Sennheiser MKE 600 because it has the AA battery slot to power it. It then works well with the rode wireless pro. If you plan to hardwire the shotgun and plug into the Sony audio top handle, k3m module or (preferably) a proper recorder/mixer all of which can provide p48 then I'd say search for a used MKH 416, a DPA 2017, or go with the Rode NTG3.

Update : Rode sent me the SC7 trs to trrs cable that allows me to connect via 3.5mm jack to the rode reciever, then using an apple 3.5mm jack to usb c connector I can connect to my iPhone. This allows me to be able to actually use the manual gain settings on the receiver itself unlike when using the rode usbc only, it does not actually have any effect. I have the reciever gain set to 0 db, then I have my transmitters (mics), set to gain assist or auto. This is the best result I have had yet while being able to use the native camera app, (iPhone camera app) rather than the rode capture app. It's not terribly quiet like it was before using the usbc cable only in iPhone camera app, but I'll still probably boost my audio a little in post production/editing app. Out of curiosity I'm still going to try the dji mic 2. Going to see if it's much easier to use and if the mic quality is actually worse without editing the mic quality. I imagine it will be easier to use but the mic quality will be slightly worse. I'll update this adapter I've been able to use the dji more.

From the videos I've seen the rode wireless comes with the cord that attaches the receiver to your phone, and then I've seen people use the magnet that comes with it to attach it to their phone. Found out it does work with a case or without a case when attaching it to the back of your phone although it doesn't hold on extremely tight with a plastic case. I'm leaning towards the rode. Also found out the dji mic 2 reciever won't interfere with my specific tripod. I think the main pro is the noise canceling on the dji for me and then possibly the ability to change settings on the receiver. I don't know how much easier that actually makes it compared to using the rode app. Not any videos covering the ease of use between the 2 when using an iPhone. The comparison videos are all the same and no one answers the question well. Good audio is probably most important. Unfortunately this is probably a trial and error thing because no one can surely answer this question. The extra $50 isn't a concern. Mainly just wondered which was easiest to use with iPhone with the least post "editing". At this point will probably end up going with the rode pro unless I find some other good comparison video. Since I'm recording at home I don't think accessing the app to change settings would be a huge deal.

Hollyland Lark Max 2. You can use up to 4 transmitters to one receiver. Comes with a receiver for a camera and a cell phone receiver that plugs right into the iPhone. The transmitters can record 32 bit float internal AND wirelessly if the attach device supports 32bit. I believe the newer iPhones do. The transmitters are tiny. You can either clip them on or use magnets. If you want to use a lav mic they come with USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. Which only adds like a half inch to the transmitter length when plugged in. They also have noice canceling too if you're in a loud public space. Works great and sounds pretty good if you don't crank it too high. Nice charging case too. I've had mine a few weeks and have zero complaints. $249 for the 2 transmitters kit. $319 for the 4 transmitter kit You can also get these cool wireless monitoring headphones. They kinda just play sound over your ear so you can still hear everything around you while monitoring. Minimal lag. TBH kinda gimmicky but can be convenient with the iPhone. I also have the Rode Wireless Go 2 and Pro. They're good too but kinda obnoxiously big to put on a shirt. I almost always use a lav with them or put it in a breast pocket of a shirt or jacket. .

Im a very occasional gimbal user. Rare that I'll use it for a full day. 9 times out of ten I'll be handheld, tripod or monopod. My manfrotto monopod was the best bit of gear I've ever brought. I did just buy RODE wireless pros. Like some elements. I prefer the look of my older RODE lavs to the ones that came with. Idk the ones that come with it seem harder to lock into the tx than my older mics (maybe that was just me) and the mic clip is a bit loose and plasticky.

QX5's player mic would be a broadcast choice. A Rode wireless with a concealed lavaliere mic could do the job, as well as with several other brands. What you're looking for is as small as possible and light so players won't complain. These Sennheiser clones that you're looking at won't serve your purposes. And good luck trying to convince them to wear a mic.

the standard rode mic is clunky, but they have a compact version specifically for phones and I've used it plenty [Rode Wireless Micro (affiliate link, Rode direct)](https://brandstore.rode.com/products/wireless-micro?sca_ref=5977121.DfSOEmGxRr&sca_source=reddit) [non affiliate link, if needed (3rd party retailer)](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1849609-REG/rode_wimicroc_wireless_micro_2_person_ultracompact.html/) Rode sent me this one for free. It might also be worth looking at the Hollyland Lark MAX 2 as well. Either the RODE or Hollyland would let you plug an external shotgun into the transmitter, then use the TX unit's local recording to capture without a receiver or additional device. Hollyland is a smaller TX unit if you want to use it as a lapel mic but the receiver UI is more fiddly than the RODE. I own both and see pros and cons to each. If you want to prioritize simplicity then go with the RODE.

Thank you! I pulled the trigger on the Pro's, found them on Amazon warehouse cheap (hopefully the package is complete). I don't own anything from DJI but I also don't buy into "ecosystems". Universality is key for me. Even though I own a Sennheiser ME4 lav, the two included Rode Lavs are decent and make it extremely good value (might even return the Sennheiser, which makes up for half the cost of the Rode Pro kit). And yes, using lavs will be preferable. We did it a few times, works great, but we were using a zoom external recorder. With the Rode the audio will go directly to the phone and it might be "ready to post" or we can just sync the recording from the transmitter in Capcut or DaVinci. About noise cancellation, I didn't like what I found on YouTube tests from DJI Mic2. If I really need it, I have Da Vinci Studio, iZotope basic plugin or for a free tool, Audacity with the new OpenVINO plugin does an amazing job. It's an extra step, but a fairly easy one. The phone itself also has inbuilt AI noise reduction, maybe it works for the signal coming from an external mic too. Also, not that important, but the Rode has timecode, which might be handy. I've done interview style videos in the past with two cameras/views, so it might be useful if we decide to do it again to help sync everything.

Not sure if you picked up your chosen product - but a rode pro has the ability to do both. The receiver can pair with both transmitters - and plugs right in to your camera. Then one transmitter can be set up as a shotgun on camera and the other transmitter can be Lav attached to the talent/speaker. You can throw them both together in post and have the best of both worlds. All for under 400 bucks

For anyone wondering. I ended up going with the rode wireless pro. All the stuff it comes with is nice for sure but it is not super easy to use. Once everything is setup and dialed in, it's not too bad. But the setup and getting all the problems fixed took awhile. Also when directly connecting to an iPhone, when you watch back the videos the audio is super quiet. You either have to extremely boost the audio in editing which can take some audio quality away or use the rode capture app, boost the audio in rode capture and then still add some volume in editing which is what I'm using. The rode capture app isn't great, you don't have as many settings for videoing like light exposure, and the camera "auto" focus is a little worse in my opinion when compared to iPhone native camera app. Also had some problems with the video that automatically downloads from the rode capture app, audio randomly cuts out when listening to it but is fine when I put it in my editing app. If I manually download the video there's nothing wrong with it. Overall my experience hasn't been great but it does surely give better audio sound which is the point. Im sure the audio is better than the dji mic 2, but from what I've heard, the dji mic 2 is easier to use with iPhone. I haven't tried it so unsure but because of my tripod, connecting the receiver through usb then magnetizing it to my tripod or iPhone is easier. Hope this helps anyone looking.

I recently got the RODE Wireless Pro to use as a wired lav. But I get put into a lot of run and gun setups with uniformed flight attendants and other airport employees (work for an airline). I'm trying to capture good audio in a noisy airport environment. I've traditionally used a Shotgun Mic as my run and gun interview mic. But using the RODE mic clipped like this is actually the fastest way to get the best audio in a crowded environment where you don't have time to mic. properly. I do agree I don't like the look of the mic. I am still figuring out how and when I want to use them that way now that I have the ability to.

The Rode Wireless Pro is a full kit with clips, wind muffs and two actual lavs, aside from the integrated mics on the transmitters. And allow you to plug other PIP microphones. To me that's a no-brainer, unless you really really want any of the DJI features like baked in audio processing (which I don't think you can undo if afterwards you don't like it).

A lot of this really depends on the audio you want to record and the environment your in. I like the sound shotgun mics make more typically, but lavs typically do better if a shotgun mic can't be placed well or there is lots of ambient sound. Using both is best so you can pick what tracks to use in post or if one has a issue on set. Do you have a sound recorder/boom op on set? What do they prefer using? I have used the wireless pro's and they work fine. Pretty good for a 2.4 system, DJI is also fine. Make sure to use the cabled mics as they typically hide much better.
