I bought a refurbished Segway g30lp from Walmart last year. They were selling for $250 at the time. It's my first scooter and it's a solid, well built machine. If it does ever break. Parts for these are abundant, and easily swapped out.

Yes the g30lp is smaller by a bit and a smaller battery. Range on the g30lp should still be good for college. If u can swing the g30p it's really a solid choice. Size of rider matters as well I had to get that model I am 6'2" the little ones don't work for me. Oh also the charging is a little different I believe the g30lp uses a brick charger while the g30p can use either a brick charger or the built in charger via cable. It's the one I prefer. I have 6k miles on this scooter and only have had to do maintenance, replace a tire a fender and a throttle. It's been very good, rides well even in weather. Hope this helped good luck with ur purchase and congrats on the college acceptance.

Yes both height and weight play into it and the smaller ones don't feel as steady being larger. The g30p is almost to small the newer versions like the g2 and g3 r a wee bit larger but of course like 1k price tag oof. The g30p tho just fits for me at 6' 2" 220lbs. Gonna cost a wee more for the g30p but that's ok. Look at the G2 tho price may be similar rn idk haven't looked in a bit.

My first scooter was max g30 for 400. I test drove it and inspected it prior to purchase, and it still works perfectly after moderate usage and zero maintenance. Buying new is great, but if we're trying to extract max value per dollar, the used market will win in this price range. That is, of course, assuming you possess the bare minimum skill set to prevent yourself from being ripped off.

Seconded. I got the Max G30LP for Christmas, and have put more than 300 miles on it since then, just commuting around the city a few times a week. I did a rough estimates to find that is about $900 saved in rental fees, which would more than pay for itself. It feels sturdy and good quality. That said, if you're truly commuting daily, you may consider the Max G2, which has a suspension to make your ride a little more comfy. Is it a $500 giftcard? Because if it is it could very well be worth putting a small cash payment on top as well. I'm not sure what's available on amazon but it could get you into a different class of scooter. The G30LP is a great beginner scooter but I wish I had bought something a bit better to start with (to avoid upgrade-itis)

Segway Ninebot g30 is a good reliable scooter should be able to get for around that price. Any scooter you find that does 30+ mph at that price range will be a death trap. Start off getting really good and confident with a normal scooter at normal speeds before you start chasing high speed specs. At 20 on a scooter you can do some serious damage still and feels fast.

If you can bump up the budget the Segway G30LP will be a good one to set him for the next few years. You could also go for the G30 Max to future proof if he needs more distance or climb higher gradients (motor is better and battery is twice the range). Both models are reliable, easy to maintain and replacement parts are readily available, affordable to buy and change yourself. Just ensure they do regular maintenance checks, don't run the battery down below 15-20% where possible, keep psi topped up and have him wear a helmet as minimum safety gear. You can also control speeds via the dedicated app too. FWIW, I recently did an analysis on Reddit data for electric scooters, ranking them by aggregated sentiment. Maybe you'll find it helpful [../../electric-scooter/](../../electric-scooter/) You can filter for what's good for hills and get a breakdown of what ppl have said about the most often recommended ones (disclaimer some links are affiliate they help fund the analyses)

Segway Ninebot Max. Get the G30 or a refurb if you can't afford the highest version. These are excellent commuter scooters. Also look at NIU scooters too. If you can, try to save up a bit more for something in the $800-900 range. You won't be paying for gas, maintenance, insurance, or parking. So it's going to be a massive deal Gotrax is okay.

I got segway ninebot max g30LP for 499 on Amazon. My commute is simple. 8 miles daily on bike lanes, including some incline. I rode it during rain, during freezing temperatures and such and performing really well. I read that the customer service can be a pain, but I haven't needed it so far. I would consider if the specs fit to your needs (range, speed, tire type, etc..)

The G30LP and the G30P are similar but different - the LP is physically smaller and has a smaller battery. I'd say the E3Pro is on the same level as the G30LP, but a downgrade to the G30P.

I have the same G30 and have put over 7000+ miles on mine on NYC streets. With normal maintenance, these things will go the distance and last a long time. The air filled tires will offer some cushioning for those style of brick path but it depends on what you are expecting. I personally would be fine. If you are concerned about vibration/comfort, I highly recommend going for something with suspension like the G2. The price is OK, how is the mileage of the scooter?

9 bot g30 max I use it as a commuter , it's strong and enduring. I'm a heavy guy so it's a slow climber , but that's ok , majority of the time I'm on flat pavement. I use this for situations like fixing my car , when you fix your car you need to leave your car there for serveral hours . I just leave it in my trunk until I arrive , pull it out and ride to the nearest train or bus to get home. Or I just ride home if it's close enough. Another funny use I use it for is when I drive to a party and get really drunk. I will leave my car somewhere parked. Uber it home and the next morning I'll use it to commute to pick up my car to save a few bucks . I have 2 of the 9bots so when I have a guest or I'm riding with someone inexperienced I will ride slowly with them so they get the hang of it. It's great in the summer times to take it to a nearby bike path just to explore the parks and city. Dualton X2 - This is a totally different animal . 100kmph - 80-90kms in range I use this for straight pleasure . I also ride in a group with others whom have big powerful scooters. We ride around the whole city. I don't carry a lock because I don't use this for anything but pleasure . I call this the party scooter. I strapped a speaker to it so we have music when we stop. ( we do this in our own secluded spots ) we have a few beers and continue to the next spot. I don't need to take transit either because it has more than enough range for the entire day of riding. Or 80-90kms of riding which is a lot . The stem I don't bother folding. It comes with 2 deadbolts that secure it permanently. I must say I've ridden many scooters but this stem system is the best stem dualtron has ever made. It's solid , it doesn't move. Can handle any terrain. I keep up with cars in it . It's loud and obnoxious like a Lamborghini. I purposefully do this so I get noticed by cars. I don't ride recklessly though I have 5 years experience and I ride with full gear on. Again it's not for the inexperienced rider. You must know your roads , you must ride with caution. It's like riding a motorcycle basically.

I've got a Segway Ninebot Max G30LP. Got it for a great deal, and haven't had a single complaint on it. Haven't used my car in forever cuz I can just zip around in a few minutes. The battery power lasts about 5-6 days for me (note that I use it a lot throughout the day), so I only bring in my scooter one night every week. As for bringing it in my dorm (Moses), RAs don't care I bring in my scooter to charge. I've walked past the RAs a couple times and they don't care. Just make sure not to leave it in your room over winter break or summer and you're good.

Both are lower tier in quality and not a good choice if you care about reliability. The iscooter i8 is a Xiaomi M365 knockoff/clone, avoid clones like that. The Razor E300 uses scooter tech from 20 years ago using 24v lead acid batteries which do not last long not only in use but in lifespan. For reliability just get a Ninebot Max G30 Or G30LP.

I've been using a Segway Ninebot G30LP for 1.5 years and it hasn't given me a single issue. Got about 1100 miles on it. Definitely feels bumpy on bad roads but where I ride everything is smooth. Range is about 15 miles since I always use sport mode, but website says you should be able to get 25. Max g30lp or or gotrax g4 ( some people say they are horrible but I used it snd it's amazing ) maybe the xiaomi scooters too like the xiaomi m365 or xiaomi pro models if you can manage to find one under 500 I reccomend some with solid tires ( be aware of clones ) as solid tires can give you more range and be more reliable because of no risk of flats . But can be more unsafe when wet and be more bumpy

What was the temp when you were riding not the low or the feel like wind chill but the real temperature at that time? Either way sounds like your battery is dead, on Wednesday I went out when it was around 28-30f did 15 miles on my Max G30 and had 25% left. My Max is over 5 years old 5000 miles. The ZT3 has the same battery as the G3 but the frame is more robust for heavier riders someone posted a pic comparing the rear of the frame was at least 2x the thickness on the ZT3. GT3 is not worth it battery is too small for the price, if you want GT3 get the Pro though it cost a bit.

Even my mom has loved trying it out over break, lol I've used it a ton since it arrived, and haven't needed to charge it yet, since the first charge when I took it out of the box (it's still at like 60%). That box, though, was absolutely MASSIVE. So big that the mail room workers asked me a few times whether or not I'd be able to bring it to my dorm. Ended up borrowing a dolly, and got it back there. That box takes up nearly the entire length of the room 🤣

Segway is being cheap and use low capacity chinese battery cells almost for all their scooters. GT3 battery seems to be different and it has 50% more capacity without increased space. It requires latest high quality cells which obviously cost more money, but shame they don't offer it as option. Something like Ninebot Max could fit almost 2kWh battery internally and it would cost near two grands then, but still very compact. The trend is that compact means low battery and bulky heavy means high battery because it is cheaper that way.

With your weight, almost any adult scooter is suitable for you. Given the short travel distance, scooters with small batteries are also suitable. I would consider Ninebot scooters, as they have more reliable electronics, and the mechanical parts are also quite reliable. For example, Ninebot scooters Es series (Es1, Es2, Es4), F series(F25, F35, F45), G30, G2 (used ones can be bought for $ 300, and this would be the best solution for the money), E2. Of all the scooters listed, the Es series has a folding mechanism, which makes it easier to store it leaning against the wall, placing it on the front wheel, and using a wall mount. Other scooters can also be stored in this way, but due to the design features, they will bulge strongly from the wall, and it is not very convenient to put them on 1 wheel. Xiaomi scooters also performed well, such as the m365, m365 pro, etc. Inexpensive kukirin scooters can also be considered, but they often have mechanical problems, and the electrics sometimes fail, although due to their mass production, spare parts for them are cheaper than for other scooters.

I use segway G30 because it's easier to bring it on the CTA if i need to. No suspension tho and it doesn't go faster than 18 mph (lime and divvy scooter maxes out at around 15 mph, so consider how you'll feel when you fall off your scooter at higher rate of speed - in other words, your pain tolerance level). I have two helmets, ones without shield for my eyes and one with (for windy days, for rain, for bugs, etc).

Can't help you about reviews, but I *can* tell you - from the tech specs and from user reports here - that E-series Ninebots below the E3 Pro aren't actually very good. They have weak powertrains and tiny ranges and they'll choke on any uphill; personally I'd avoid them all. The E3 Pro specifically is the only one with a half-decent powertrain; I'd imagine that's why people have more things to say about it. I *would* choose a Xiaomi 5 before any E-series, but I'd choose a Ninebot F3, cheaper F2, or even the older G30 before the Xiaomi 5.

It's the original ultra-reliable tank. It has two flaws: relatively slow maximum speed even unrestricted, and no suspension. Aside from that, it's basically the perfect urban cruiser on the cheap. Now, whether the lack of suspension is a problem depends on your tolerance. Personally I have zero problems with that setup, and for relatively slow urban commuters actually prefer unsprung wheels because they're lighter and have less stuff that can break. But my tolerance *is* relatively high, so make of that what you will. As for speed, I find it good enough for city riding. You can mod a G30 for more speed, but it's a significant expense and DIY effort and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
