I've owned 3 scooter upgrading every time. NIU KQI 3 pro , Emove cruiser S , Roadrunner Rs5. All bought off Facebook at minimum 50% off and all less than 300 miles on them. Barely broken in IMO.

I've bought 2 used scooters. I keep eye on marketplace and found my first scooter niu pro 3 barely used then upgraded to an emove cruiser S with about 500 miles on it in excellent condition. I got both of them for about 1/3 of new retail price. Sold the NIU after about a year for 100 less than I paid for it. I'm looking to upgrade again if I see what I want. I'm really liking to Roadrunner Rs5 max currently.

You'll get ~18 miles on the KQi3 Pro, but if you don't need it immediately, I'd try and wait it out to see if you can get the Max on a discount. Literally every other month they have some new sale. I will also say that I've seen the pro go for $430, so that's also an extremely enticing deal. Either way NIU makes some great scooters that perform better than you might expect them too.

Check out NIU. They usually have bundle deals that give you more off than the sales are already giving you. You could get them a pair of KQi3 Pro's which are 20mph scooters with a decently battery so they can ride for as long as they want. I see that the other scooters you have are a little faster. You could also look into the KQi3 Max bundle, it's a 24mph scooter and that's probably faster than any 15 year old needs to go.

I'm at 6 scooters right now. 2 basic gotrax ~$30/ea (bad battery connections), some no name scooter $30 (bad cell bank), niu kqi3 pro $free (crashed, bent front fork, bad tires), gotrax flex ultra $150(perfect condition, 40miles on it), zondoo zO01+ $150 (internal break in ignition wire, noisy bearing + broken off split rim screw in hub motor, unbalanced wheels, lighting harness shorted and melted, bad stem bearings)

Given your priority for a lightweight scooter under 40 lbs and within 1100 CAD, you're already on the right track with your current shortlist. Among your options, the **NIU KQi3 Pro** stands out for quality and ease of use, though it is close to the upper weight limit. The **Segway G30P** is reliable and has great range, but it might be a bit heavy (around 42 lbs), so testing it in person could help decide. Suspension-wise, you're correct that many budget models lack it - so focusing on tire size and deck comfort may be a reasonable compromise.

NIU KQi3 Pro doesn't have suspension, it's a single 800 watt motor. I mean it's good for what it is, but without having suspension, the scooter takes all of the brute force really. Now, I know they are other models that NIU makes that do have suspension, but at the time I bought mine, the models with suspension were a bit out of my price range. NIU is good for starters I would say, but not something for intermediate riders. NUI gives the same energy as Ninebot lowkey.

As a fan of AliExpress since before Amazon sold more than just books, I still wouldn't buy a rideable from there. You want some level of reliability and good reputation. For your budget, you'ré looking at Niu kqi or Inmotion products. Way less maintenance and better value than any ebike or diy kit. I use all the PEV's and generally recommend an escooter for most people thinking they want an ebike. If they can get away with the range, escooter is way better value. My GOTRAX shorted out when I went through a puddle that was a few inches deep. I'm careful with my NIU, but I'm more confident in its ability to navigate through wet conditions since it's "vehicle-grade materials." I used my GOTRAX on a daily basis from may 2020-mid 2022 when it started having major issues due to loose nuts/axles and wiring problems. The brakes are completely stripped bare because of how much I used it lol. I put probably 2-4 mi on it per day, with some days having a commute of 8-10mi when I'd get out of work at midnight. My NIU KQi3 pro is still going strong (got it in December 2022), but I've needed to send it off for wheel repairs before (thank goodness for their 2-yr warranty!). It has a squeaky wheel and the tiller is a little off-balance due to multiple wipeouts. (I think I'm at 7 or 8 solid crashes or wipeouts now? One of which, I was hit by a car.) Last time I checked, it had at least 700km on it. I think the main thing with daily use is that your pneumatic tires WILL eventually be damaged due to road debris, weather conditions, PSI fluctuations depending on the season, and how frequently you let your scooter drop off a curb.

Isn't the KQI a pretty good one with decent speed and build? NIU gives me the impression that its a higher quality brand than Kukirin (who can't even get their naming right, Kukirin vs Kugoo Kirin, Kugoo). keep in mind there is no app for Kukirin so you aren't gonna get any OTA updates. I got a Kukirin G2 Max. The display died before even 1000km. The company sent me a new one but not before doing some tests, like reseating the connections. But the worst part was they made me open up the scooter which meant ripping up some of that rubber mat and then they wanted me to check the voltage on the battery and charger. I'm half handy so I was willing to do this, but WTF? You want a customer to check voltage with a multimeter? When I checked the charger it gave me a HUGE spark. Naw fk that. I enjoy the scooter but, the design decisions are weird. I bought new shocks so I disassembled the front. And to my surprise the bolt and the nut on the front axle don't use the same size socket! In a sense it meant that I could use a socket wrench on both sides when tightening/loosening the nut but its just weird. It made it feel like its put together with whatever parts they could find. Not sure if other scooters are like that? G2 Master would just rip with those motors. too fast for me to be comfortable on those tiny wheels.

Seconding the NIU KQi3 Pro. Smooth, fast ride - worth the extra weight for a scooter that's sturdy. I'm a Windy City commuter myself, I do about a 10 mile round trip a couple times a week. I started with a Niu KQI 3 Pro 3 years ago. Rode it for 1700 miles, before I moved on. Now I'm hitting 60mph but I started at 20mph 2 scooters ago. Was a great little workhorse.

This isn't helpful. The person asked a very popular question and you responded with a condescending, "you need more money" tone. You could have referred them to this very question on the escooter sub. There are scooters out there that aren't "pieces of junk" at this price point. HiBoy, while having poor customer service, is a decent suggestion. Buy the extended coverage plan if you order from Amazon or wherever you order from just to be safe. They also sell extra parts which can be difficult to track down for other brands. NIU KQi2/3 is a great, budget friendly scooter which is recommended in the "escooter" sub and is the only "budget" scooter they recommend. The Ninebot model from Segway isn't the most popular, for quite a few reasons, but I certainly wouldn't consider it a piece of junk. It's a 70/30 chance you'll get your full money's worth, 400 dollars is still a good deal of money, which I think OP and I both understand; although to some who can afford better quality products for commuting there are obviously far better options. If you want to just get around for a little while look into these models. Stay away from brands like GoTrax or Volpam or those who primarily sell on Amazon and create fake reviews etc and you have a better chance of getting a decent life on these. My car was stolen and didn't receive enough to make a down payment on a vehicle, so I have tried each of these scooters. I will say the one I went with was the HiBoy, despite the NIU having a better track record and some better features. A review of that for a later time. At the end of the day, yes--you get what you pay for. But, as I said, this is still a decent chunk of change that will get you from points A to B (assuming your commute is primarily campus or city-based). Do not neglect the idea of looking for refurb's or used on FB marketplace and the like (!!!!) Don't get it wet/ride in the rain. Basic stuff. Look out for potholes and crazy drivers/stay safe and you will be good for a bit until you're able to save up for a nicer model. Hope this helps.

So, I already have a Niu KQI3 Pro, and its a nice little commuter scooter, but having the throttle wide open and maxed out, i get maybe 20 mi range at 20 mph. i like going on casual / semi off road trails. But it would be cool if I had something that actually lasted a good ride. Some of the trails ive been looking at are around 20-25 mi long... while i MIGHT barely scrape by on my current one, i dont wanna risk it and be stranded. The Ausom DT2 Pro looks like a fun scooter that could hold up, but wondering what others might think. For what its worth, im 5'6" and about 165ish lbs

That's cool! I just rode it for the first time yesterday and I can already tell they make some good scooters. I only intended to take it out for a little test stroll while my laundry was running but ended up riding around for 2 hours because it was so fun

I concur with this. I currently am running a KQI3 Pro. Stepping up from an Amazon Special that had lasted me only 4 months. I commute to work on it every day, granted it's only 4ish miles round trip. But that said, I only use 20ish percent of the battery round trip, and it's a lot of stops and starts. I did a range test run a while back. Did almost 15 miles with 20% of the juice left when I got home. It's an excellent workhorse, and fairly inexpensive these days.

thank you! it gets tough when you try to follow a brand name. before i bought my kqi3 pro, i heard to stay away from segway, but they're listed as the best. it seems there's a lot of conflicting reviews when doing research... for the most part I'm happy with my kqi3, but it lacks in longevity... which when i first purchased it, i didn't have intentions on riding longer than a few miles at a time.. but then the weather got nice and i had time off... and here we are lolol

I can vouch for NIU as being well-constructed scooters. I have the KQi3 Pro, got it for around $450 on sale and wouldn't trade it for the world - a bit heavier than what you're looking for, but NIU in general makes good stuff, one of their lighter-weight options might suit you. The tubeless pneumatic tires are incredibly smooth, and their app allows you to customize things like speed, regenerative braking (if your scooter has that), etc.

No avoid NIU please.

Depends on how long your commute is, really. If it's longer than a couple miles and your budget is in the < $500 range, check out some of NIU's stuff. I got their KQi3 Pro for around $450, and it feels like a scooter twice its cost. Smooth ride, fast, snappy acceleration and good braking. They've got good options in the $200-300 range as well.

My current scooter is a KQi3 pro. Very solid scooter, I've had it for about 2.5 years. Usually smaller commutes though at full speed. Cons are that it has no suspension, and support isnt the best. It does come with 2 year warranty though. My next scooter is the Segway GT1 because they have great scooters. I think they have one for 900 rn and it looks very solid. Does 12 miles account for there and back?

The kqi3 pro was my first ever scooter last September. I had no complaints about the app. Found it useful as it logged all my trips when engaged. I'm not sure the features of the sport, but I did need the app to adjust Regen braking, set max speed, and kick to start. Once that is set you don't need your phone anymore. It went 32kmph and only complaint would probably be no suspension. But as someone mentioned you don't need the app to use the scooter unless you use it to lock the scooter. I would definitely recommend it as your first scooter. It's also a sharper looking scooter than a comparable segway. I got alot of compliments on it.

I managed it in a 3rd floor - it's on the heavier side, but with good lifting technique it's perfectly doable.

niu kqi3. I had the last model too and they've both been consistently reliable. Same scooter for over 3 years and I've ridden about 2k km and she's doing great apart from one flat tire replacement.

No that is the older model KQi1. The KQi100P and KQi100F(includes folding handlebars) are the new updated models that now include front suspension, the motor power was boosted from 250w to 300w, etc. Overall just a much better scooter. Not sure when the newer model will be on amazon.de its been out for a few months in the US, and I did see it from one seller in EU. Its still not on the EU NIU website either (https://shopeu.niu.com/) so my guess is they are still getting ready for wider EU availability. Less than 1k? go for a scooter from Segway or Niu. I'm a city commuter myself, I've got a Niu Kqi3 Pro and it rides like a dream. Electric Movement up in Old Town has a couple used ones on offer I think?
