Between these two I'd go for the Niu without the slightest doubt. No scooter seller/importer/manufacturer is without its fair share of faults, but we know Ninebot and Niu as some of the most reliable. Just, buy from Amazon or some other large store so you can make use of their customer support if you have a problem. Youtube reviews are worthless; the vast majority are paid shills as they have a vested interest to push affiliate deals.

As a fan of AliExpress since before Amazon sold more than just books, I still wouldn't buy a rideable from there. You want some level of reliability and good reputation. For your budget, you'ré looking at Niu kqi or Inmotion products. Way less maintenance and better value than any ebike or diy kit. I use all the PEV's and generally recommend an escooter for most people thinking they want an ebike. If they can get away with the range, escooter is way better value. For $1,000, you get a junky ebike but a pretty good scooter. Feel free to use my coupon code, Funcentric if you decide to go with an Inmotion product.

I'm with the other guy that you're really never too old. There's a dude I see riding by in my neighborhood that looks to be in his mid-40s, and the person who I first heard mention the OneWheel is Adam Savage, who is 58 now. That aside, though, I went with a scooter over the OneWheel for practical and price reasons, and I've had mine for around 2 1/2 years now. Mine is a Niu KQi2 Pro. It has generally treated me very well, and I've gotten solid support for the couple of little issues I've had. For your use case, I'd probably step up to a higher end one for a bit more power and range. Also, depending on the quality of surfaces you'll be riding on, you might consider something with solid tires if you ride on very smooth surfaces or with suspension it you ride on very rough surfaces. The KQi2 Pro comes with air filled tires that dampen a bit of impact on the fairly rough concrete I ride on regularly, but it does not have suspension, so it's not necessarily ideal when I manage to catch a big bump.

I currently have 660 miles on my NIU KQI 2 pro and I have had zero issues so far. I fill up my tires every few weeks and it's been a reliable scooter. The realistic range when not in eco mode is more like 12 miles. Although, the town I live in has lots of hills and I'm kind of fat.

The app is not perfect but it is slowly improving. But you don't really need to use the app at all once you adjust the settings how you like them. After initial setup you can use the scooter without the app. I nearly never use the app with my KQi2. So if the app is the only thing stopping you, I would not worry about it and get the scooter.

Yes, but you I will adjust to it. You should be scared of your scooters top speed, this means you can grow into it. 30 mph should scare the shit out of a beginner rider. By the end of the summer that 30 will be your cruising speed.

The NIU KQi2 Pro is a great budget scooter. I have been riding one for over 2500km and apart from few initial issues its been a solid scooter for my daily commutes. I just went from a Kqi2 to max G3. Night and day difference, NIU I got used but ran beautifully all weather and down curbs. Put a lot of miles on it before their common issues with error codes. Segways new lineup with all the tech and suspension feels great. Horrible battery though.

This isn't helpful. The person asked a very popular question and you responded with a condescending, "you need more money" tone. You could have referred them to this very question on the escooter sub. There are scooters out there that aren't "pieces of junk" at this price point. HiBoy, while having poor customer service, is a decent suggestion. Buy the extended coverage plan if you order from Amazon or wherever you order from just to be safe. They also sell extra parts which can be difficult to track down for other brands. NIU KQi2/3 is a great, budget friendly scooter which is recommended in the "escooter" sub and is the only "budget" scooter they recommend. The Ninebot model from Segway isn't the most popular, for quite a few reasons, but I certainly wouldn't consider it a piece of junk. It's a 70/30 chance you'll get your full money's worth, 400 dollars is still a good deal of money, which I think OP and I both understand; although to some who can afford better quality products for commuting there are obviously far better options. If you want to just get around for a little while look into these models. Stay away from brands like GoTrax or Volpam or those who primarily sell on Amazon and create fake reviews etc and you have a better chance of getting a decent life on these. My car was stolen and didn't receive enough to make a down payment on a vehicle, so I have tried each of these scooters. I will say the one I went with was the HiBoy, despite the NIU having a better track record and some better features. A review of that for a later time. At the end of the day, yes--you get what you pay for. But, as I said, this is still a decent chunk of change that will get you from points A to B (assuming your commute is primarily campus or city-based). Do not neglect the idea of looking for refurb's or used on FB marketplace and the like (!!!!) Don't get it wet/ride in the rain. Basic stuff. Look out for potholes and crazy drivers/stay safe and you will be good for a bit until you're able to save up for a nicer model. Hope this helps.

Your not-at-all creepy info-gathering effort missed the mark. People must be using Ai to snoop profiles, because somebody else came at me with an almost identical crock of shit earlier this week. Yes, I've owned two Apollo's. One of them was actually just a rebranded Titan scooter. They held up fine, but I couldn't deal with those idiots and parts were never in stock. My Mantis stem never snapped. I have no idea where that came from. Roadrunner does definitely use cheap swing arm bearings, and it costs 60 cents each to upgrade to new bearings which are problem-free. Many people like the suspension itself, but I'm picky since I have a MKGT and know what a good suspension feels like. Yes, I do upgrades and stuff. I recommend the NIU (I've also owned a Kqi2 Pro, for the biography) because shitty alternatives like the GT08 prioritize speed over quality, and 600 bucks is an absolutely minimal budget. Hope this helps.

Never had an issue with the Ninebot Max G30 in rain or snow. Same with the NIU KQi2 Pro, been through multiple storms, so far still runs great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-GrSpbhWH8 and based on the disassembly it has well sealed internals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GT5LiTJ8D8 so I am not worried.

I had good experience with NIU and Segway scooters, specifically: Segway Ninebot Max G30LP - 10,000km - no problems (at around 9800km the back fender broke, but it got crashed by elevator doors, so does not really count :D ) NIU KQi2 Pro - 2700km - no major problems since 500km+, few initial issues (full journey https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLb3q9WiQZ0LOACttdyEq-Enat4eUqCLnt ) NIU KQi Air - 2000km - no problems with scooter (few issues with NIU app, did not affect riding of scooter) (full details https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW9nK3h6FKY ) VDM-10 - around 3000km - zoom brakes had to be replaced, DIY fenders added to keep suspension clean; otherwise still going strong;

To help you with your decisions I feel it would be better for you to give us a few more details. The budget is an excellent start but depending on what you need it may be better for you to keep saving. What is the intended use? Are you planning to use this as your ride to work? Is this your first scooter? Where are you located? For anyone who has first hand knowledge of other brands they can chime in however the experience I have is with NIU and its second hand. A coworker has the NIU KQI2, he uses it to commute to work , we are in New Jersey, metro area different terrain. Rain snow or shine he rides it with no problem. I tried it once its a kick scooter so once you get going just balance on the deck and its smooth sailing. This version is 420, the next one up is 500, I recommend buying it from a major chain such as Best Buy or Target or Walmart, the kqi2 is available at best buy and a two year protection plan is $100 dollars, the model above is available at target for 500 and has a 2 year protection plan for 100. Whayever you do get a full face helmet, and get reflective gear for night time use.

The front suspension is great but there's no rear suspension. Still, be prepared to get jostled if you hit a pothole. Cobblestone streets are a no-no. I broke my kqi2's controller trying to ride on a cobblestone street lol. Good think NIU had a 2 year warranty. Cracks and dips are fine and manageable.

It's almost the same. The lean on the handles is more but not noticeable. The folding handles is a game changer when transporting in the bus. I can slide it under the seat easily. I've had people trip on the handles on my kqi2.

Overall I think NIU makes very good scooters that are well built, but needs to improve in some areas to make it an overall great experience, especially when issues arise it can take longer to get things resolved.

I use a niu kqi2 myself. Not for door hanging but my part time job reading meters. Does the job just fine. These are regular houses with either gravel driveways, asphalt, concrete and sometimes grass. I only have trouble with the gravel driveways that aren't well used. Low deck high helps if the terrain isn't much of an issue. If there's a curb or something Im worried about I just work around it, which is like 1 in a 100 houses. I'd prefer that over hopping on and off a higher deck. Battery lasts about 3.5 hrs if I'm not ripping it.

Its not necessarily bad, but it has the same specifications as the cheaper KQi2 Pro, but in the scooter body of the KQi3. The KQi3 Pro and KQi3 Max have higher specs (i.e. more powerful motor, bigger battery, etc.). So if the KQi2 Pro is cheaper than the KQi3 Sport, its better to get that, unless you really like the design of the KQi3 more.

Isn't the KQI a pretty good one with decent speed and build? NIU gives me the impression that its a higher quality brand than Kukirin (who can't even get their naming right, Kukirin vs Kugoo Kirin, Kugoo). keep in mind there is no app for Kukirin so you aren't gonna get any OTA updates. I got a Kukirin G2 Max. The display died before even 1000km. The company sent me a new one but not before doing some tests, like reseating the connections. But the worst part was they made me open up the scooter which meant ripping up some of that rubber mat and then they wanted me to check the voltage on the battery and charger. I'm half handy so I was willing to do this, but WTF? You want a customer to check voltage with a multimeter? When I checked the charger it gave me a HUGE spark. Naw fk that. I enjoy the scooter but, the design decisions are weird. I bought new shocks so I disassembled the front. And to my surprise the bolt and the nut on the front axle don't use the same size socket! In a sense it meant that I could use a socket wrench on both sides when tightening/loosening the nut but its just weird. It made it feel like its put together with whatever parts they could find. Not sure if other scooters are like that? G2 Master would just rip with those motors. too fast for me to be comfortable on those tiny wheels.

The Kiq2 pro has been great. 250$ for excellent condition refurbished at Amazon. The only problem was they sent me a Europe spec from Germany instead of a US so it has a lower top speed governor. Other than that, it's been great and I can scooter around the track all day on the air field and have plenty of battery life The air is still shipping to me and I'll have to see about it when it comes in

No that is the older model KQi1. The KQi100P and KQi100F(includes folding handlebars) are the new updated models that now include front suspension, the motor power was boosted from 250w to 300w, etc. Overall just a much better scooter. Not sure when the newer model will be on amazon.de its been out for a few months in the US, and I did see it from one seller in EU. Its still not on the EU NIU website either (https://shopeu.niu.com/) so my guess is they are still getting ready for wider EU availability. The NIU KQi3 Pro is currently on offer for €528 https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B7P89SPZ/ that is worth considering, or take a look at the NIU KQi2, or slightly more expensive the newer NIU KQi300X https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0DGXLKH31/
