I bought an inmotion climber recently in San Francisco, so far it has handled all the hills I've taken it up, though it will slow down quite a bit on steeper ones (~25%+ grade). The lack of a suspension is a bummer of bad roads, but I've had no other complaints so far! Had it for a couple months now.

For that price range, I would do Segway or the inmotion climber. Both great scooters but they won't kill you. When buying a scooter, think about repairs. Is there a designated storefront for this cheap Amazon scooter? Probably not.

It really depends on if you want to go fast, commute, go up flight of stairs, need to do lot of miles... As a big rider too I just bought the inmotion climber, relatively fast, very light, dual motor so it carry me up hill. But not a big battery and it doesn't have suspension.

inmotion climber on sale for $419 on their website BF100 coupon code. I'm the primary rider, but my 7 year old can ride the inmotion climber too. So I'm sure your 14 year old can handle it. Have him use D mode for 3 months before he move to S mode. D mode limits to 16mph, S mode goes around 21-22mph, although can go 24 down hills.

Okay, I run a non monetized YouTube channel helping people with stuff like this. My recommendation is the Inmotion Climber. I live in San Francisco and recommended it to a friend who bought one and he likes it. The only drawbacks that you want to look out for in case it matters to you is the overall weight of it and that it does not have suspension, but it will work on even San Francisco hills. Charging will take awhile too b/c the charger charges at low amps to protect the longevity of the battery. IP56 water proof rating. You can't find a better deal for a dual motor scooter from a reputable company designed to conquer hills. You're welcome to use my discount code, FUNCENTRIC and if you sign up for their emails, I think they're still offering an additional $50 off. $699 for it is a steal. I did see it on sale sometimes for $599 which is ridiculously low. I got my original escooter before rental scooters were a thing 8 years ago and paid $650 for a much lower spec scooter. These things have come a long way since then. I worked at the Inmotion booth this past weekend at the Electrify Expo teaching people to ride some of their products. It's a legit company that has real USA presence and interacts with its customer base.

$419 is a crazy good deal for the climber. Do you need to enter a coupon, or it's automatic? I spun the wheel thing, and got a $200 off $1000 coupon, so would need to buy 2 climbers to get the $419 price! I'd go with the climber vs the segway as the dual motors and split rims are big advantages. Also I got the (ironically G30) seat and it fits the climber perfectly: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRFK1Y8C?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_fed\_asin\_title](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRFK1Y8C?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) The brackets they send didn't work as there isn't enough room, so I just use some plastic shims to prevent the screws from scratching up the aluminum deck. It just arrived today, and was a blast to ride with the seat, seems even more fun than standing up.

About 100 miles in, pulling the steering column up when going over mild bumps so it doesn't slam directly into them. No stem issues. It will start to lose acceleration, but maintain the ability to keep you at the rated maximum speed at around half battery.

The climber has been a very solid scooter so far for me with around 100 miles on it, but I believe the motors are rated at 450w nominal voltage, each. I avoid using max voltage ratings when describing scooters, it can get confusing. I'm a big guy and it gets me around great. A little bit slow on hills but it does get me to the top.

It depends on what you're looking for. The Inmotion Climber is dual motor. It peaks at a rated 1500w whereas the Max G2 peaks at 1000 across a single motor. Inmotion Climber has water proof ratings whereas the Segway does not. Inmotion's design is modular making swapping parts out easier. I haven't kept an eye on Segway so I don't know if Max G2 really was ever $1,400. I'm guessing not. That would be way over priced for the spec. Climber is designed as a climber so naturally, the incline hill climbing rating is way higher than the Max G2. I imagine if the Max G2 is as similar to the M365 which was the choice of rental scooter companies, it would be durable. Anti skid feature of the Max G2 is interesting. Find My is kinda cool but I think gimmicky.

For hills, nothing beats the Inmotion Climber for the money. Feel free to use my discount code, FUNCENTRIC. If you sign up for their emails, I think you can get an additional discount on top of that. The Inmotion Climber has been tested and true for hills. I recommended it to a friend and he did end up buying it. I've tried it. It's legit. Mechanical cable brakes though, not the lightest thing in the world. But legit reputable company, built in turn signals, true waterproof ratings and modular design are excellent features hard to find for the price.

GSPACE getting a lot of love lately. Inmotion seems pretty good with parts. Depending on what long term means, it may be cheaper to buy a used one for parts years down the road, could be cheaper than buying just a few parts new. For example, my inmotion climber has replacement battery pack for $280 or so. But they are selling a new one for $419, so for $140 more I can get a whole new scooter, so it'd make more sense to just buy a new one than a replacement battery pack.

Honestly, I think the Apollo Go would be a pretty incremental upgrade in fun from your utilitarian G2. If you really must try it in person before purchase, maybe go join some sort of local ride meetup and see if you can try some people's different scooters at the meetup. You can also go to the electrify expo and test ride scooters there, which apparently occurs in July in Seattle: [https://www.electrifyexpo.com/seattle?srsltid=AfmBOooEGKlKka8Z58Rt1JBAGMSzDyPs4o6sXhFZoD03x2aHjjOTf8qX](https://www.electrifyexpo.com/seattle?srsltid=AfmBOooEGKlKka8Z58Rt1JBAGMSzDyPs4o6sXhFZoD03x2aHjjOTf8qX) If you can find the scooter on amazon, preferably shipped prime with amazon as the seller, you have until Jan 31st to return it if you don't like it. Otherwise you gotta just take the risk of eating the restocking fee cost. The inmotion is on sale at amazon again for $467, or $476 with a phone mount. Amazon sells older version of the vmax, but not the new ones they released in 2025. And I think the older ones only went up to 25mph. At this point I think you have played up in your head how fun the Go can be...lol. I know the feeling, and often times you end up disappointed. I say if you're going to bother upgrading at all, go for something with a bigger difference than the Go. Unfortunately most of them are going to be over 60 lbs. Under 60 lbs you're kind of limited to probably just the newer Vmax scooters. I do see Vmax as a participant in electrify expo seattle, so maybe try to attend the next one to test ride one, or find a local to try their's out.

The best ones right now in my opinion are: Cheap starter scooter: Hover-1 journey 2.0 $160 on amazon for the yellow. Get this first so you get practice and learn how you'll actually use the scooter and what you like or don't like about it. Midrange scooter: inmotion climber for $419 on their website with coupon code. Super solid, climbs any hills you're going to encounter, fast enough to give you a thrill, and cheaper than equivalent performing segway ninebots. Also IP56 water resistance so you can ride in the rain with confidence, and has very through maintenance video on youtube, and relatively easy to get parts for. Hyper scooter: GSPACE MARS series from $2000 for the ECO to $3300 or so for the GTR. Goes 50-60 mph depending on model, with 30-50 miles range. Has option for awesome seat to make it a mini moped/moto. You're not going to need more scooter than this, and it has the versatility to take you wherever you might consider going on a scooter.

Another option is the Inmotion Climber, which is what I have. I added a seat designed for the segway G30 to it, and it's even more fun with the seat. It's available from imotion for $419 with BF100 coupon, maybe need a different coupon code now. It's also available from Amazon with phone mount for $476, which gets you the benefit of Amazon's awesome customer service and Jan 31st to return it. I added this seat on it, and just added some plastic shims between the screws and the deck to prevent scratching the deck, as the included plastic trims are too big: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRFK1Y8C](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRFK1Y8C) I don't know how fast the G2 goes, but the inmotion goes 21-22 mph sustained, which is noticeably more fun than 16 or 18 mph. The Go does go even faster,; probably 25-26, so maybe even more fun? But not sure if it's 2X more fun than the inmotion climber! Finally I think climber accelerates faster than the Go, and acceleration is fun!

Inmotion climber is IP56. My kid is 7 years old and is able to ride it, although the brake lever is a little longer to reach for his smaller hands. 10 year old brake lever should be fine. If he's good at kick scooter already, electric scooter should be an easy transition. Otherwise, get a cheap kick scooter and have him practice on that first.

I second the Inmotion Climber. I like the fact that it looks like any other generic scooter that won't attract too much attention. However this thing is built solid like a tank and will get you up inclines faster than many $1000+ scooters. I was fortunate to pick up a slightly used one on facebook for only $300 with less than 50 miles on it. I now have almost 800 miles on it and never had any issues. Basic maintenance will make thing last a long time!

As a rider of all PEV's and knowing their place and use case and valuing them all for their uniqueness, I would highly recommend that you strongly consider an escooter over an ebike. escooters have way better value. For $1,000 you're getting an amazing scooter. For $1,000, you'd be getting an overpriced $700 ebike. These days escooters will take hills nicely (Inmotion Climber for under $700). They're having a sale now. You can use my coupon code, FUNCENTRIC and i think if you sign up for their emails, they're offering additional discounts. Segway also has some legit escooterse as well. NIU may also be an option. If you buy an ebike, the budget ones really start at about $1,300 unless it's on sale. Aventon I think has a sale on some stuff that's under that price that's legit.

I read the whole thing. I've been recommending the Inmotion climber to some folks that I'd feel it would be a good match. Reasons not to get it is if you plan on using just the stock charger and are not okay with the slow charging. It charges at low amps likely to keep the battery in good condition. As you noted, it doesn't have suspension but that doesn't matter to you. It's a dual motor scooter and currently the best value for one and will handle great for someone your weight. Great too that it's from a reputable company. I paid more for a substantially lower spec scooter 8 years ago. I weigh a bit more and rode my friend's Climber after he got it per my recommendation. It's not the fastest scooter but will pick up in acceleration quite quickly in sport mode. If you end up getting this or any other Inmotion product, you're welcome to use my coupon code for a discount, FUNCENTRIC. I'm pretty sure Inmotion is also still offering $50 off for signing up for their emails. Do that and you'll get double discounts. So that from www.inmotionworld.com/funcentric and I assume they'll be sending you the current trim.

I got a hover-1 journey max for my 7 year old when it was $210 on amazon, it's now $299. You can still get the journey 2.0 in green for $162. But even at 7 he can ride my inmotion climber, just his hands are still a little small so a little harder for him to push on the brakes. in motion climber can be had for $419 with coupon code on their website or $467 from amazon. So journey 2.0 you spend $162 maybe they ride it for a couple years, maybe they get bored and don't ride it much. If they ride it a lot, you can upgrade after a couple years. With climber, they can ride it until the battery dies in 5-10 year or whatever. I have a neighbor high school kid has ridden his gotrax over 2k miles, so teenagers definitely do find these scooters useful, and the climber can last through high school basically for your kid, if the battery can manage to hang on that long.

I ride on the road, and mind you I am 6'3 265 myself, and don't have much issue. It goes over grass and basic hard pack without too much difficulty but it's definitely not an offroad scooter. Comfy enough on asphalt though. I've also ridden it in substantial rain with no issues. The brakes could be better, now obviously I'm even heavier than you, so I'd expect the brakes to hold up better for you. Replacement pads are fairly cheap, but they only last 300-400 miles. Still on the first rotor with no issues.

For that price, fast probably won't be an option, but a friend of mine recently bought the Inmotion Climber for our hills in San Francisco and he seems to like it. I took it for a test spin and sport mode definitely has a kick. Crazy how much scooter you can get these days for $600. I bought an EcoReco S3 8 years ago for $650 and it wasn't nearly as nice as the Climber. I have no idea how long the sale will be going on for, but at $599, it's a steal for a dual motor escooter with built-in turn signals that does hills. When they have the 20% coupon, the Solar P1 3.0 is $1040. Right now it's 15% coupon so it's $1104. Top speed around 40mph, and 330lbs weight capacity. Scooter weighs 70lbs, and is IP64 rated. Vmax VX2 hub is currently $1139, gets to around 33mph, with 287lbs weight capacity. Scooter weighs 55lbs, and is IPX6 rated. If you can tolerate going only 22mph or so, cheap option is Inmotion climber currently $419 with coupon, or $467 from amazon. However it doesn't have suspension so you'd want to avoid them big cracks. This one I actually own, for a year and 700 miles, and has been rock solid for me. Parts seem relatively easy to source, although I haven't needed any parts at this point. Just bought a spare tire cuz it's on sale for like $18. Can get replacement brake pads around $10. Was also able to fit a seat designed for ninebox G30, which made riding it more fun, and perhaps more safe especially if you're used to riding bikes. Scooter is IP56 rated.

I suggest you get a cheap ass scooter so you learn how you'd actually use the thing. For example hover-1 journey 2.0 in green from amazon for $162: [https://www.amazon.com/Hover-1-Foldable-Electric-Brushless-Air-Filled/dp/B0BXN52KZD](https://www.amazon.com/Hover-1-Foldable-Electric-Brushless-Air-Filled/dp/B0BXN52KZD) Or inmotion climber if you need to climb hills, available for $419 with coupon from their website, or $467 from amazon. Journey probably about 10 miles range on a full charge, and climber about 20 miles. However journey lighter around 34 lbs, climber around 46 lbs, in case you're planning to haul it up a bus or other mass transit. I got the hover-1 alpha cargo on a whim, and discovered it to be tremendously useful. Now I have a couple other scooters one for my kid, and have put about 1500 miles total on them. But to recoup the cost of even the $162 journey 2.0, you're going to have to ride about 1000 miles on it. So you're looking at about 3000 miles to recoup cost of the inmotion climber. This assumes gas price of $4/gallon and 25 miles/gallon.

Amazon had the green Hover-1 journey 2.0 for $162, not sure if they still have the coupon active. The journey max is $300 and is a good scooter at that price point, goes 21mph with 20 miles range. I'm very pleased with my inmotion climber, which at $419 with coupon is a little above. But it's super solid and should last for many years. I'd rather spend the extra $120 on the climber than the journey max for pretty similar top speed and range. I have both, and got the journey max when it was on sale for $210.

My kid is 7 and rides the Hover-1 journey max (and previously the journey 2.0) with no problem. He can also ride the inmotion climber, but the brake handle is a bit far for him to reach comfortably. The segway zt3 pro is currently on sale for $850, and is a well reviewed off road scooter. It can probably last your kid through college if the battery survives that long. Main thing is with the brake handle is short enough for the kid to comfortably reach. The deck to handlebar height is the second most important consideration. The journey 2.0 was around 38 inches? Quite comfortable for my 7 year old. journey max around 39 inches, and is still quite mangeable. Inmotion climber is around 40 inches so starts getting to the limit for his current height. But he can still ride all three without big issues, and the kids are growing every year so in a year or two, they'll be tall enough to comfortably handle any of the heights. As for the speed, my kid has a good sense of fear, and limited himself to D mode, around 16mph. But he's got enough practice with throttle control now, so he's able to handle S mode on the journey max which goes to 18 or 22 mph depending of if you unlock the top speed.

Inmotion Climber is in your price range, and has relatively decent support. As another said, the Segway Max G3 is pretty good as well. [Decent](https://youtu.be/U284wt6aKzQ?si=79zQoG23TrOfifv-) scooters with decent rep that'll do what you need for your commute. The former didn't have suspension and is a tad bit slower, but has dual motors for zippiness. The latter has a single rear motor but it's way stronger, and bigger tires with suspension and a lot of other goodies Me personally, I'm extra af so I have dual 1000w motors for my 6'5 225 frame. Don't expect the fastest hill climbing ability, but they'll get the job done.

Where do you see climber for $419? I see it for $519, and also $529 on amazon with a phone holder: [https://www.amazon.com/Inmotion-Climber-Scooter-Phone-Holder/dp/B0D5DH6YW5](https://www.amazon.com/Inmotion-Climber-Scooter-Phone-Holder/dp/B0D5DH6YW5) I'd probably order the one with the phone holder as a good phone holder will cost more than $10. I got my climber last December, and it's been solid for me, no issues, no flats, no stem wobble, 694 miles on it so far. It is IP56 waterproof, so can ride in the rain, and has split rims to more easily change tires/tube if needed. But I'd recommend getting flatout to avoid tube changes for the usual running over of thorns and nails if it should occur. And check tire inflation weekly to avoid pinch flats. I'm able to inflate my tires with chuck, but valve stem extenders still makes it easier. They give you an screw on extension, but you'll lose a few pounds air pressure screwing that off. I think some segways have IPX6 water resistance, but others are maybe IPX4 or IPX5? Water resistance and the easier tire change could be worth the money in the long term for the climber vs the Segways. Also it might be a little faster than the segways? 21-22mph sustained, and 18-20 miles range easily. 10 miles daily is not a small amount, so you come to appreciate a little more speed.

I too have a climber as my daily driver scoot. I Picked up an EUC, an Aero, mostly because it's significantly smaller while going the same speed and more, once you become confident enough at handling the fact that you only have one wheel and are reliant on your balance. It'll rip up hills before wind pressure and inclines force me to accelerate slower at 26 MPH, but before that it GOES. It satisfies the "Go faster" itch by virtue of feeling faster and getting more adrenaline going because of the inherent risk involved, it fits in a gym locker, and you can sit on it while it self balances when you go out and have to stop for pedestrian crossings, or are just sitting in line. You probably won't even enjoy going 30 on a scooter, TBH. Used to have an Ausom that could, and it felt more sterile than the climber without the fun factor.

Climber gud. Im sitting in a drink shop right now as i type this. Small enough to stash under a 2 person table. 18 mile real range while going fast when its possible and appropriate to do so. Brakes are weaker than a full on disc setup on each wheel. Drive like you value your life and youll probably be fine. had to tighten mine so that i get more bite sooner, came out of the box squishier and wanting me to really press the whole handle.

It's hard to find a scooter that is reliable on hills. Hills is what kills the battery and will require high specs. The climber can do it. I'm in San Francisco and my friend whom I recommended the Climber to is enjoying it. You won't find a hill climber, dual motor scooter with integrated turn signals with modular design from a reputable company for the current sale price of $699. It was as low as $599 a month ago. Both good prices. A bunch of reason to get the climber, but you want the reasons you don't want a Climber. It does not have suspension. Mechnical brakes - not hydraulic. Slow charging. You're welcome to use my coupon code if you want, FUNCENTRIC [www.inmotionworld.com/funcentric](http://www.inmotionworld.com/funcentric). If you sign up for their emails, I think they're still offering an additional $50 off.
