Hey everyone, I'm in the market for an electric scooter primarily for commuting purposes. I weigh around 230 lbs and need a scooter that offers a good range. I previously tried the HiBoy S2, but it only gave me about 6-7 miles at max speed, which isn't sufficient for my needs. I'm looking for a scooter that can provide at least 15 miles of range at top speed. My budget is around $500, and I don't require any fancy features-just reliability and sufficient range. I came across the NIU KQi3 Pro, which seems promising. However, I'm concerned about whether it can deliver the required range given my weight. Does anyone have experience with this model or can suggest alternatives that fit my criteria? Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Nice! I'm looking at buying one of these and I also weigh close to 230 so this was timely! I bought a Hiboy S2 recently as a last-mile type thing to go home from the EV charger a mile away, and it's ideal for that, being $300 and 30 lbs. What I didn't expect was how much fun it would be to ride! Now I want something with more range just to cruise around on for fun, and it would be cool to have 2 scooters in case my GF or friend wants to go for a scoot. I'm probably gonna get the pro soon.

Thanks for all the great info everyone. Ended up going with the Hiboy S2 Max. The price was right and figured it would be a good starting point. Only put a couple miles on it so far but for what I paid for it I'm quite happy so far.

HiBoy KS4 Pro for $400, or HiBoy S2 for $300 with less range. My daughter uses the S2 at college and it's been great for her, but she only rides a few miles per day so range isn't super important for her. But she goes days in between charging it. I use the KS4 Pro myself and I've been happy with it though with me being 230 pounds I don't get terrific range out of it, especially if I'm riding up hills frequently.

I have a GoTrax APEX MAX that has been awesome, and is currently on sale for $275 at Walmart. I also have a HiBoy S2 that is around the same price at BestBuy. Either scooter would be great for a 14 year old. Both of those scooters have basically the same specs as what you posted a picture of.

No problem, been using both of them for about a year without any problems. My daughter at college took the HiBoy S2 with her and she uses it to get from her apartment to around campus. I weigh 225 pounds and both the S2 and Apex MAX work well for me as well, though at my weight they don't do very well on steep hills. But my 11 year old son has been riding the Apex MAX since last Christmas and he loves it. One other thing they both have in common, along with the one you pictured in your post, is solid tires. I personally specifically picked scooters with solid tires instead of pneumatic air filled tires because the solid tires won't pop. When the pneumatic tires pop it can be a total pain in the ass to fix. Solid tires are a bumpier ride, but to me the trade off is well worth it to not have to deal with flat tires.

A couple last things I'll mention about the HiBoy S2 and Gotrax Apex MAX are the following. Lighting - The S2 has an awesome lighting system with red LED lights on the side in addition to headlight and taillight. Looks super cool at night (see pictures in reviews on BestBuy's website). The Apex Max only has a headlight and taillight. Mileage counter - the S2 doesn't keep track of the miles you've ridden, while the APEX MAX keeps track of the current ride distance as well as total miles. We've ridden our Apex Max a total of 475 miles in the last year according to its counter. Battery life - the Apex Max seems to get better battery life with me riding it compared to the S2, but they are both more than adequate.

This is the correct answer. Build quality on hiboy and gotrax is not sufficient for a daily driver. You don't want to blow money? We'll this is a perfect opportunity to learn how expensive cheap can be. Warranty repair on scooters sucks. You'll at least be on the hook for shipping. Go check what it costs to ship a scooter. We'll wait. You'll be without your scooter for a minimum of 2 weeks but likely much longer. Segways aren't particularly cool looking, they're not particularly inexpensive and they are not particularly light. They're not particularly fast for compared to other scooters that are available for the same money. But they are solidly built scooters that will last if you just do the minimum amount of maintenance on them. Spend a little bit more, check your tire pressure regularly, do the basic maintenance, don't drain the battery all the way before charging and it will last you a long time. Don't ever pay list price for a Segway. If the model you want isn't on sale this week, it probably will be next week. You want reliability, not speed, not a colorful paint job, not a bunch of extra flashy lights. NIU is also a good choice. Hiboy and Gotrax make ok entry level scooters, but they are toys. They generally don't last. They're fine for light-duty recreational use. If this is something that's going to get used everyday rain or shine they're not a good choice.

It's an M365 clone, no suspension but the air-filled tires do cushion the ride a bit and I feel comfortable riding over gravel and unswept roads since I have self-sealing tires. If your main concern is suspension and comfort, the S2 Max ain't for you

This isn't helpful. The person asked a very popular question and you responded with a condescending, "you need more money" tone. You could have referred them to this very question on the escooter sub. There are scooters out there that aren't "pieces of junk" at this price point. HiBoy, while having poor customer service, is a decent suggestion. Buy the extended coverage plan if you order from Amazon or wherever you order from just to be safe. They also sell extra parts which can be difficult to track down for other brands. NIU KQi2/3 is a great, budget friendly scooter which is recommended in the "escooter" sub and is the only "budget" scooter they recommend. The Ninebot model from Segway isn't the most popular, for quite a few reasons, but I certainly wouldn't consider it a piece of junk. It's a 70/30 chance you'll get your full money's worth, 400 dollars is still a good deal of money, which I think OP and I both understand; although to some who can afford better quality products for commuting there are obviously far better options. If you want to just get around for a little while look into these models. Stay away from brands like GoTrax or Volpam or those who primarily sell on Amazon and create fake reviews etc and you have a better chance of getting a decent life on these. My car was stolen and didn't receive enough to make a down payment on a vehicle, so I have tried each of these scooters. I will say the one I went with was the HiBoy, despite the NIU having a better track record and some better features. A review of that for a later time. At the end of the day, yes--you get what you pay for. But, as I said, this is still a decent chunk of change that will get you from points A to B (assuming your commute is primarily campus or city-based). Do not neglect the idea of looking for refurb's or used on FB marketplace and the like (!!!!) Don't get it wet/ride in the rain. Basic stuff. Look out for potholes and crazy drivers/stay safe and you will be good for a bit until you're able to save up for a nicer model. Hope this helps.

I've gotten closer to 25-30 miles, but that's because I'm a fatass and me + my tools usually exceed the weight capacity. Scooter's done just fine though, the only maintenance I've had to do is on the tires, like patching the tubes. I will warn that the majority of videos on YouTube are about the base S2, so how-to videos may be limited if you're unsure how to do a certain repair.

honestly man, hiboy's not bad at all, especially the s2 max. i got one a while back and it's been super chill for commuting nothing fancy but it gets the job done. good range, comfy ride, and doesn't feel too cheap. i mean, sure it's not a segway or some premium setup, but for the price, it's kinda hard to complain. just make sure to tighten stuff now and then, they're not perfect but def decent for the money.

Just depends bro. How much are you trying to spend and what specs are you looking for? I think if you just google best e scooters under x amount that'd be a good place to start and you can get an idea of what features you can afford for what price. For example most dual motor scooters are gonna cost more, bigger battery for more mileage costs more and makes the scooter heavier, turn signals digital cockpit etc costs more so just know what you want and how much you've got to spend and go from there 🤙🏾 my first scooter I got like 2 yrs ago was a Hiboy s2 it's not bad it reads 19 on the display, rear suspension gets about 20 miles and it's pretty light, cost 300$. I'm about to get an ausom l2 max dual motor here in a few days actually for more speed. I think for a first scooter you can find a good one for under 400 that'll do what you need it to

Hiboys a known brand, they're pretty reputable, and they'll stand behind their warranty. You'd probably find a lot of people here who have that and love it and a few people who have it and hate it. But it's solid if you're just getting it to commute.

I've got a hiboy s2 and i basically use a combination of a u-lock and a password cable lock. But basically because scooter and bike theft is so rampant in my city i only take my scooter out and lock it up if i am somewhere where i will still be able to visually see it like with certain stores or with stores that allow me to lock it up on the inside of the entrance where security can often see the bikes/scooters but anytime i cant do that or i don't have someone else with me to watch it for me then i don't take it with me. As other comments noted, the locks help but ultimately they are just a mere deterrent but wont fully prevent theft because thieves get real dedicated coz all they need is basically enough time and they will grind or bolt cutter most locks. But yeah having said that just make sure you got at least two locks (any combination of two chain locks or a chain lock and u lock etc) and just make sure you don't gamble in certain scenarios, always go with your gut feeling if a place seems sketchy to leave your scooter/bike then it probably isn't worth taking the risk :)
