I gotta jump on the '54 bandwagon. It's solid and consistent and punches well above it's weight for the price. There are quality replacement burrs already, with more in the pipeline, that should quench your upgrade-itis well into the future as well, and cheaply, relative to larger burrs It was telling in the James Hoffman review mentioned earlier, that it came out on top for both espresso and pour over vs your other contender, among several others. It was obvious that he was impressed with the performance of the '54 overall, so you should feel confident with the purchase with that level of recommendation. You should be all set for kit with the addition of a proper grinder, and can relax and focus on consistent prep!
r/espresso • Time to buy a grinder? If so, best one for less than £250 ->I love my DF54
r/espresso • What grinder do you use, why, and how much did it cost? ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS

I have a feeling they're going to hate the DF54 if they had issues with the Ode's build quality.
r/pourover • Seeking Electric Grinder Recommendations ->That's fair. From what I remember about briefly using a DF54, it was a nice grinder but the Ode 2 felt better to use. I also got my Ode 2 for $280 which probably made it seem like a much better value.
r/pourover • Seeking Electric Grinder Recommendations ->I currently use hand for pourover (K6) and electric for espresso (DF54) and I enjoy the flow of it a lot. Helps my twice-daily pourover feel more like an enjoyable ritual whereas with espresso I want as little fuss as possible.
r/espresso • The elusive dual-purpose grinder: Espresso and Pourover [approx $500 CAD]. ->I had the same question and ordered a DF54! (Yesterday). I had local vendor offering the Mignon Zero 55s, for 250€, but after many people here and on discord and other sources suggested that the DF54 is just the better grinder and is cheaper I decided to get the Df54, (from the same vendor, I paid a little more (compared to https://df64coffee.com/ ), but now I got local support and supported a local business.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best espresso grinder under $300? ->Df54 should fit that budget.... Or go hand grinder and get a j-Ultra or commandante
r/JamesHoffmann • Grinder for filter coffee considerations [max 250€] ->Interesting, I think it's quite beautiful it's slim and sleek but that's subjective Also I don't understand why that would push your budget? I tried a random Amsterdam adress and it came to 202€, so quite below your budget. And at that price point it absolutely outperforms, everything. https://df64coffee.com/ A different option, would be a Mignon Eureka singledose like the zero 55, but I have been told it's not as good as the DF54. But I have no experience with mignon and they make really good grinders like the smart or the Specialita.
r/JamesHoffmann • Grinder for filter coffee considerations [max 250€] ->I own a hand grinder for my drip coffee too. However, in a pinch, if I needed to use my DF54 for drip coffee, I know I could. Is it the best for drip ? No. Is it the worse for drip ? no. So if I need a 2 in 1 it would be my choice. Having said that, I am foremost, an espresso drinker so I am happy with my DF54.
r/espresso • "2 in 1" Grinder for Espresso and Pour over ->Perhaps separately each is better at one over the other, but if you are looking for one that does both, I would go with DF54.
r/espresso • "2 in 1" Grinder for Espresso and Pour over ->I use two grinders. I use a DF54 exclusively for espresso, and my Shardor antistatic 48 settings conical burr grinder for everything else. It's a pretty good grinder for drip, pour overs, and french press, but I won't use it for espresso, since grinding for espresso is unforgiving and the Shardor grinder just isn't as consistent for that as the DF54.
r/espresso • Shardor grinder opinions? ->Why the gell is no one suggesting Bambino + DF54? Only get a hand grinder when you're really really sure you want to do that for espresso.
r/espresso • Help on what to decide [around 500-550 USD] ->This is what I was thinking. I also have a DF54 for espresso and am considering a hand grinder for the very occasional pour over.
r/espresso • The elusive dual-purpose grinder: Espresso and Pourover [approx $500 CAD]. ->1. Manual grinders are not that bad if you're grinding for 1 cup. But not timemore c2. Get something long lasting like kingrinder k6, 1zpresso, etc. 2. In addition to being electric, electric grinders bring a level of consistency in brewing process. Hand grinder output can change based on how fast you're rotating, what angle you're holding the grinder at, etc. But if you must get an electric, dont cheap out. Cheap grinders will not grind fine and consistent enough to be respectable. The bare minimum is bartaza encore esp or the best budget being df54.
r/IndiaCoffee • Coffee Grinders ->I actually haven't taken my df54 apart or recalibrated it. I haven't necessarily needed to. It's been doing fantastic for pour over and my espresso needs. Of course when it starts to chirp or needs cleaning I will adjust as needed but for now I haven't made any changes since it's arrived.
r/espresso • Good beginner setup?[buying advice needed less than $800] ->Baratza Encore ESP or DF54. I've had both, I stuck with the DF54. Not sure if the express has the baratza burrs but if it did id lean towards the DF54 Purely so I have a flat burr and cone burr for comparison.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →The DF54 isn't that much more considering how much easier it is for grinding. My girlfriend couldn't even hand grind our medium to light roasts with my K2.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →I have the df54 and use it constantly for the aeropress, delicious cups every time
r/AeroPress • View on Reddit →Approx how long for a df54 to grind 18g in your experience and what roast beans you using?

r/espresso • View on Reddit →You could buy a regular bambino for $250 on amazon or $240 at homegoods, and as for the grinder you could get a encore esp still I believe for $160 and it makes very good coffee. with this combo you probably won't need anything else and the money saved I recommend getting a spring tamper & bottomless portafilter from normcore don't forget a WDT tool and some puck screens! Pretty much what I have currently and it's great but I'm passing down my encore esp to my girlfriend as I ordered a df54 grinder if it's in the budget I'd get a df54
r/espresso • View on Reddit →The general consensus is that the DF54 has very good build quality, especially for the price. They seem to be relatively pleased with their Encore, and the DF54 has better build quality than the Encore. Price is a big factor-the DF54 runs about $260 or so with brew burrs, while the Ode 2 is $400.
r/pourover • View on Reddit →If yours clogs, there's a way to mod the declumper so it won't clog. It shouldn't clog in the first place unless you're using a very oily dark roast.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →Bambino + DF54, more than enough for great results and an easy workflow. You're sticking to the budget AND getting an amazing electric grinder. More than this is mostly incremental upgrades for someone obsessed with the perfect espresso and with money to spend. You can get amazing results with these two. Also, if he doesn't drink straight espresso, those tiny upgrades won't even really be noticeable in a cappuccino.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →Below is my view - Find the grinder for your type of beans and taste - Then decide if you want hand grinder or electric I had 4 grinders for espresso. I gave away 2 of them. Today I would consider - X ultra, J ultra - K ultra - DF54 esprews burr - DF64 DLC burr - SSP MP - SSP HU There might be other. Good luck
r/FlairEspresso • View on Reddit →You'll find that pouring milk into your Cuisinart grinder was the smartest thing you ever did after you get a df54 and realize how much better it is.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →I have moved from Kingrinder to DF54 (under the brand AVX over here) one month ago and it's great. Never had a clogging issue, no retention either.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →\+1 for the DF54. It's got a wide enough range to do both drip and espresso, and I can fit around 40g or 50g of beans in the hopper; plenty for two-to-three cups.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →Hey, it's been amazing. I'm loving it each and every day. No complaints at all.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →DF54 if you can stretch to £220. Earl coffee have non-black colours for £219 on eBay.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →Under $250, you would be looking at a Baratza Encore ESP, DF54, or KitchenAid KCG8433. The Baratza is an excellent choice for reliability and easy repairability. Parts are readily available, and it's a good grinder. The DF54 is the most popular coffee nerd/enthusiast choice. It's a flat burr grinder with excellent performance and the ability to change the burrs. It's basically a Chinese OEM grinder, however-so support is more dependent upon the retailer. The KitchenAid KCG8433 is very nice at $179-often goes on sale for $139. It's the least expensive of these three choices. KitchenAid's track record as a company speaks for itself. I personally own the KitchenAid (along with several other grinders)-I like the ergonomics and it does a nice job. It's a quiet grinder and very good for the money, if not necessarily a popular coffee nerd choice. There are great choices if you expand the budget, but it's really easy to go down that rabbit hole. Also, just get a separate scale. I've seen only one grinder in this price range that grinds by weight-a $129 grinder on Amazon by a company named Mokkom. FWIW, it seems to get good ratings on Amazon, but clearly would be a bit of a gamble. I'm comfortable with making that kind of gamble, but not everyone is.
r/Coffee • View on Reddit →Then I think you should go for DF54 , I was under the impression that you will not be going for espresso. Since you plan to go for espresso DF54 would be a great one sending the Link in your DM
r/IndiaCoffee • View on Reddit →It can, especially if the inner burr adjustment is utilized along with the main grind dial. The Encore ESP will be better for espresso, as it has more range at that end with 20 grind settings specifically for espresso. However, the KitchenAid has more range overall with more than 70 grind settings, not including the inner burr fine adjustment settings. This is not unlike the Fellow Opus, which is another option that I did not mention. The KitchenAid also comes with a portafilter holder for grinding directly into a portafilter, whereas the Encore ESP does not. The anti-static catch cup on the KitchenAid works very well too. There obviously is no perfect grinder at this price point, or any price point for that matter. Which is why I presented these 3 choices-the OP then can decide which mix of features works best and which weaknesses they can live with. The DF54 probably offers the most raw performance, but has the most day-to-day usability quirks from what I can see. The Encore ESP will offer very good espresso performance, but is a bit basic in its features and day-to-day use. The KitchenAid, IMHO, has the best ergonomics for daily use, especially for beginners and regular coffee drinkers. It's pick your poison. OP, honestly, you may want to consider having two grinders-one for espresso, and one for everything else. Even if a grinder can handle both filter and espresso well, it's a pain switching back and forth between them-especially for redialing your espresso grind. Many coffee enthusiasts have a two grinder setup.

r/espresso • View on Reddit →As much as I dislike the DFs for their teething issues so far, I will concede that they have a decent grinder in the DF54, for the price point. However, not a lot of choices in 54mm space, so you're a little bit stuck unless you perform [some surgery](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADnoqcns4dc). The other contender is the Encore ESP. So much plastic. But a respectable burr for a broad range of espresso and filter roast levels. I would avoid the Breville Smart Grinder for its jankiness. It makes passable cups for dark roast only, and has poor prospects for repairs/upgrades. Similarly, I think Eurekas in general are quite overpriced and hard to use because of their antediluvian grind chamber design (lots of retention) and what might possibly be the industry's most user-unfriendly grind adjustment knob (tiny diameter, unable to calibrate/zero, small adjustments all but impossible due to thread lash, easy to lose track of revolutions). Also, Eureka seems insistent on undersized, under populated, (and underperforming) burrs of proprietary specs, so upgrading/exploring other burrs is not possible. Kidding-not-kidding recommendation: amzn has a $170 grinder from Shardor that can host standard 64mm flat burrs. The grinder itself is a plastic copy of a Mazzer Super Jolly, down to the aggressively sprung but huge grind adjustment dial. However, the grind chamber and carrier are well machined, with a properly sized exit path/chute. Save a few bucks, invest in a pair of SSP MPs or Ditting Cast LS, and call it a day. Hope that helps, let us know how you get on
r/espresso • View on Reddit →Yes i had a moment of "maybe the DF54?" but concerns would be mostly how it handles light roast, which many be seldom, but will still be.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →I have a K2 that is now my Pour Over grinder, and I just got a DF54 a couple weeks ago.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →It's definitely more "prosumer" than a lot of the other cheaper grinders, but I feel just as much as the DF54 that everyone is now acting like is the greatest grinder to ever exist... im thinking about picking up a manuale as a cheap, sturdy, repairable, flat burr grinder since I have an ESP (conical) that does a decent job but I occasionally feel i need more granularity and I do enjoy flat burr profiles now that ive tried them.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →Thx for the data point. This is what my current grinder does too.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →Also know that some the data you posted is meaningless :) People recommend the DF54 based solely on the price for a flat Burr grinder. With as many horror stories of poor quality, and defects, both here and on home barista, people still recommend it. Why? It's inexpensive for a flat Burr grinder. Edit - thank you for supplying the data.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →I have DF54 would not recommend as single grinder, Im not sure if I can recommend it at all but it's just my experience. I think you can get best hand grinder for pourover (K6, ZP6 or J Ultra or even K Ultra) I have K Ultra and use it when DF54 clogged.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →DF54 is excellent for light roast filter coffee if you get the brew burrs.
r/pourover • View on Reddit →Went for the DF54 because it was packaged with the machine I wanted for a Cyber Monday bundle. I think even without the bundle I would have went to route of the DF54 just because I like the way the shape is more. Just had a nice look to it being a cylinder. From what I've read and watched on YouTube everyone mentions how awesome it is especially for the price so I'm sure I won't be disappointed :)
r/espresso • View on Reddit →This is the upper end of your price range, but I've been really happy with my Turin D54. It'll grind for espresso, of course, but I also use it for AeroPress, pour-overs, and drip. Grind size seems really consistent. Grind setting 73 for drip, something in the 50s for V60, something in the 40s for AeroPress, and espresso is down between 12-8. The bellows action really lowers the need for maintenance: I've opened it up twice this year and there were hardly any fines for me to clean out. Just use the provided brush on the chute about once a week and you'll be fine. I decided on the D54 after watching James Hoffman's video review: [The Best Espresso Grinder Under £250](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7xGhGtvYIs). If you get it, just remember that you have to switch the grinder on if you want to reduce the grind size (make it finer). My one complaint is that the end of the rubber bellows doesn't grip the steel of the burr chamber opening very well at all. If it was just a couple of mm smaller, it would be a nice, snug fit. This hasn't been a problem, but I have knocked it off accidentally just by brushing against it. If I did that while I had beans in there they'd spill everywhere.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →Have you tried the df64 italmill on pourovers? It's great, much clearer than a k-ultra! I think the df54 is a good choice, if you plan to use it for spro. Or you can get the ode gen2, maybe swap burrs to play with. Edit: if you dont own one handgrinder, get the zp6 or the k6. They're both worth your penny even if you get both lol
r/pourover • View on Reddit →Agree on the DF54. Fantastic value for price. Hand grinding is not bad for one drink, I kind of even enjoy it, but it gets real old if friends are over and you have to make more than one.
