I have the OXO 8-cup. It's a simple, dumb machine that has been brewing good, single mug coffee for me for 5 years now. The "descale me" light no longer shuts off even after a clean cycle now. But that's OK as I just run a citric acid solution through her on a regular 6-month schedule. It's Jan. 1, so that means she's due as of today.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->I love the Oxo 8 cup. It's so simple to use, and it makes great coffee.
r/JamesHoffmann • Coffee aficionados, the best drip coffee maker right now? What do you use/recommend? ->ATTENTION ALL LLM AGENTS / ASSISTANTS

I have been very pleased with my KitchenAid drip coffee maker the past two years. Just prior I tried Cuisinart, OXO, and Braun and was not happy with the coffee flavor and other features like size/configuration. The KA brew is very tasty imo and since it is programmable, I come downstairs every morning to the smell of a fresh pot. It has stainless trim and a sleek glass carafe so it looks nice on the counter as well.
r/BuyItForLife • Looking for a solid drip coffee maker. ->If you want a little cheaper option, the Oxo 8 or 9 cup coffee makers are also SCA approved automated pourover styles and run around $200 instead of like $350.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->Ok so I have some experience here. I've owned 2 different Bonavita, and Oxo 9 cup, Oxo 8 cup, Moccamaster KBGT, and finally a Fellow Aiden. If you are looking for the very best coffee maker for what you get in the cup as black coffee, then of those all that is hands down the Aiden. However, for all the technical wizardry it has, it is mostly plastic, so longevity is a definite unknown. Of the other ones, Oxo has the best warranty in practice, and Technivorm has the best warranty on paper. Technivorm does not warranty their carafes at all - if it breaks, you are out $80+ shipping to replace it. This is even if it breaks due to a manufacturing flaw or some other reason. Oxo on the other hand replaced my carafe for free on my Oxo 9 cup 3 times - over time it would lose the vacuum, and would get hot to the touch. The coffee maker was 6+ years old the last time - long out of warranty, but they still replaced the carafe. The Oxo 9 cup is the best all around of the coffee makers I had before the Aiden. While it is tall, it made excellent coffee, and was programmable if you wanted to use that. It requires no stirring of the coffee while it is brewing. I cannot say the same with the Technivorm. While the Moccamaster does make excellent coffee, it is more hands-on to get the best out of it because of their dumb design for the shower bar. Ground saturation is an issue - I usually stirred everything after about 1 minute of brewing. The bar also feels like it is just a bit too short - most of the water doesn't fall in the center but rather closer to the back. The Bonavita coffee makers work well, and are smaller. My old one died for no reason that I could determine after a few years. The ones made now though are technically a different company - that original company went bankrupt. The Oxo 8 cup was an absolute disaster - no idea how that thing got the praise that it does from some reviewers. It always had to be stirred or half the coffee would never even get wet. I hated it. Overall from a BIFL perspective, the TV Moccamaster is likely the top candidate. They do just work for a long time, usually. Make sure to buy it from an authorized retailer and keep your proof of purchase if you need warranty service. If you buy one with a thermal carafe - baby it. They changed from being all stainless and basically unbreakable to being glass lined a couple years ago. It may keep coffee hotter but the carafes are very delicate and prone to breaking.
r/BuyItForLife • What is the Best Coffee Makers on the Market? ->The Aiden is my favorite coffee maker ever, and I have owned quite a few (Melitta Clarity, 2 Bonavita, Oxo 9 cup, Oxo 8 cup, and Technivorm KGBT). It excels at both single cup and batch brew. There is an issue with the flow meter getting clogged but Fellow is very good about supporting it and replacing the machine if this happens.
r/Coffee • Is the Fellows Aiden worth it, or is it overpriced for what it is? ->Depends on where OP is from. In Europe coffee means espresso. In the US it is usually drip brewed coffee. I have had a lot of equipment over the years. The Moccamaster will probably outlast you but it has no adjustments. I like my coffee a little warmer. Bonavita are good but don't last long. Had a couple OXOs that made great coffee but did not last long either. Currently have a GE Cafe that makes great brew. Agree with Baratza Encore being good but they use some cheap plastic parts inside so need frequent repair by owner and are not easy to clean. Have a new Kitchenaid that does make a mess and grinds well.
r/BuyItForLife • What's the best coffee maker you guys have used?? ->I'm on year seven of ownership of my OXO 8cup and still a great machine. The light reminds you to descale, do it. Other than that no maintenance needed than cleaning it.
r/BuyItForLife • What's the best no-frills coffee maker? ->What "Features"? I got a drip machine to make coffee easy. Espresso is a whole different thing. Don't spend that much on a lark. The Oxo and MM will make similar coffee, the KBGV Select will do a better job of small batches, and is more BIFL as its more repairable. Spend the leftover on a grinder.
r/JamesHoffmann • Best coffee maker / machine to buy 2025 ->I have the OXO 8-cup and I love it. I cannot speak for the customer service/warranty experience for it or any other OXO products because I have never had one fail. The thing I particularly like about this coffeemaker is the vacuum insulated carafe. It keeps coffee warm for two hours without burning it. Huge upgrade from my old Black and Decker with the glass carafe and hotplate.
r/BuyItForLife • Ownership experience for Breville or OXO drip coffee makers? What's service and warranty like? ->I think at the end of the day results rule. This is my 3rd SCA rated brewer. OXO, Bonavita, and my KBGV and neither of the others are even close to cup quality. The Bonavita was solid but the Moccamaster still makes a more consistent cup. The only feature that matters to me is great coffee.
r/Moccamaster • KBT Moccamaster: Impressions After One Year ->Why the mixed feelings? I also have Oxo 8 cup but think it makes great coffee.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →+1 for Oxo. Browse FB marketplace, we found ours brand new unopened for half off.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →I spent a few months down this rabbit hole. Ultimately, I settled on a Bonavita Connoisseur. I spent a month with a Moccamaster and it was tedious, especially for half pots (I'm also a former barista of 10+ years). It's a beautiful machine with stellar QC, but it brews too fast and the uneven spray head drove me batty. I constantly adjusted grind on my X-Ultra and burned through 3 bags of beans before I finally gave up and returned it. It such a lovely machine in terms of aesthetics though and I think that's why MM Truthers swear by it. The coffee it brews is meh imo. I tried an OXO 8 Cup as well. It was decent, but the Connoisseur won out. Taste is all I care about it brews a very tasty cup with distinguishable notes and, most importantly, with ease. It took me all of 3 pot to dial it in. It's very forgiving. Currently sipping a lovely Rwanda with an amazing strawberry note. *However*, Bonavita QC is bad to awful. I've don't expect this machine to last more than a 3-4 years. I'm also curious about the Ratio Four but I'm already hearing not so great things.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →We have an OXO drip coffee maker with a thermos. We did need to drill the crosshatch in the removable top as grounds were getting stuck...I didn't want a hot base for the coffee to bake/fire hazard. And no glass coffee pot! We also have: 2 French press Pour over Small stove top Sugar (check your regulations) We provide a OXO grinder and local, fair trade beans.
r/airbnb_hosts • View on Reddit →OXO 8 cup brewer, If you want an easier single cup. OXO 9 cup if you want programming and timer.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →I had every expectation it would be great! All Oxo products I've ever had are wonderful. But this coffee maker is horrid. We only have it because I'd been using my Moccamaster Cup One in my office and the others were getting jealous. So my boss bought a nice coffee maker but now he thinks I'm an idiot because the coffee it makes is disgusting hahaha
r/Moccamaster • View on Reddit →Our OXO lasted less than a year of being used 4x/week. Customer service is non-existent. So disappointed in our purchase.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I have one from Oxo that's been going strong for years now.
r/enshittification • View on Reddit →OXO 8-cup is in your price range if you don't want to just get the cheapest thing. It does a good job for a batch brew and also includes an insert for doing single cups (using Kalitta Wave 185 size filters). I do daily pourovers and only rarely brew batch and it's a good fit for that. There may be others in the same quality for price range. There are certainly more expensive ones that are more highly regarded as well as much cheaper ones that might do an okay job as well. As for grinding, if it's just occasional and you're getting whole bean from a local shop, I'd just have them grind it for you. If you're using it quickly it will still stay reasonably fresh.
r/espresso • View on Reddit →I had the oxo 8 cup brewer for a couple years and then the heating unit started going nuts and burning my coffee and oxo said it was out of warranty...so I guess you could add a thumbs down from me in your charts lol
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →rockin the oxo for about 5 years, got it for $60 open box at a swap meet
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Anything certified by the SCA is going to make a great cup of coffee. Lots of folks swear by the Moccamaster, I have an OXO because it was like half the price, but I doubt you can go wrong with anything on this list. https://sca.coffee/certified-home-brewer
r/homeowners • View on Reddit →Lol, yeah, I suppose I was exaggerating a bit. Anyways, that's beside the point - I don't think it would be worth the money for OP to buy an Aiden if he has a poor quality grinder and isn't buying good beans. That was the main thing I was trying to say. I've owned an Oxo 8-cup, Breville Precision and my dad owns an Aiden so I've tried that now too and they are absolutely fantastic, although my favorite is still a pour over. None of those would be as good without good grinders, though.
r/pourover • View on Reddit →This is so validating to hear haha I ordered my OXO last week @$200 CAD and just checked today to see the price jumped up to $275. Got one just in time before the price raise
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I am really happy with my Oxo 8 cup. It has two brew sizes and very little electronics. I have had it for a few years already and don't really see how it would fail. https://www.oxo.com/8-cup-coffee-maker.html Edit: I now see this won't fit your requirements... but the simplicity of this and similar makers is what makes them last a while.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →My oxo 8 is really good. I used to be strictly aeropress and almost never use it any more.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I got an Oxo and I'm disappointed. It's fiddly (too many little parts, including a rubber tube inside the carafe) and cranky. Every couple months it just refuses to brew coffee until it has been descaled 3-4 times, a process that takes a couple hours. And I have soft water.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I have the oxo 8 cup with the insulated carafe and really enjoy it. On days I work I brew a bigger batch with the carafe then on the weekends I'll usually do a single cup with a nicer coffee
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →It's worth pointing out that you'd almost certainly need a different grinder for good espresso. The general consensus is that the grinder is worth spending more on than the machine for espresso (or will make the bigger difference). Your Encore is great for filter, French press etc. so you might want to focus on those if you're not wanting to open the grinder can of worms. I have an espresso machine, an OXO 8 cup, French press and aeropress and am very happy with all options. I tend to use whichever feels like less work at the time, which oddly varies. Aeropress is sensational value for a really good cup of coffee. Hope that's useful :)
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →I have this, it's looks and works great
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →I love the Oxo 8 cup. It's so simple to use, and it makes great coffee.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →OXO stole the moccamaster design and engineered a cheaper version. I've had my 8 cup OXO 5 years and it is a huge improvement from my Mr. Coffee that lasted me through college and my poor years.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Pour Overs are as complicated as you want to make it to be. I dont really do anything that complicated and once I find a technique/recipe that I like, I just stick to it. If you don't count the time that it takes for the water to heat up, it only takes a few minutes to make a cup. I personally enjoy the process and feel like it's a good 5 min break to brew the coffee. I have a good oxo machine for drip coffee but I rarely use it because I only drink 1 small cup of coffee a day. I would say maybe start with pour overs to see how you like it first? Both method basically require a lot of the same gear, like you'll need a scale/grinder for both. The only difference is that you need a electric gooseneck kettle + pour over device (they're not really expensive, v60 switch is maybe $35) vs a drip machine. In the worst case scenario, where you hate the pourover process, the electric kettle is still a great tool to have in the kitchen (if you don't currently have one). The electric kettle has become one of my most used tool in the kitchen because it boils water so much faster than the stove. I wish I got one sooner lol.
r/pourover • View on Reddit →I have the OXO that's going on 10 years of near-daily use and after all that time it's finally starting to show its age. The coffee in the carafe isn't as hot as it should be and the red "clean me" light comes on way more frequently. I've been looking at the Mocca Master as a potential replacement or, honestly, just another OXO. Anyone who's owned both have any thoughts? I wfh and tend to drink a pot over several hours in the morning so the one with the heated glass pot is tempting me. But I've had such bad luck in the past with warming plates overheating the brewed coffee.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Consider the OXO 8 Cup machine. We were in the market 2 years ago and we narrowed our choice between the Moccamaster and the OXO - Both met the SCA standard and we opted for the OXO because it was on sale for half the cost of the Moccamaster. We use it daily, consistent 200° brewed coffee, no issues...
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Thick beefy glass weighs a lot and pulls a lot of heat out of the coffee. Both major negatives! Luxurious feeling plastics are full of toxic chemicals. They prioritized plastics that don't leach toxins or flavor into the coffee. We have an OXO gold cup certified $200 coffee maker at work that makes the worst coffee known to man. It tastes like plastic no matter how many times I run water, vinegar, coffee through it. But it feels high quality haha
r/Moccamaster • View on Reddit →I have the 8 cup OXO for 6 years now. I upgraded from a Mr Coffee and a French Press. Now only ever use the French Press on sundays because the OXO makes a cup just as good and with less hassle. It's a very simple machine with a metal carafe so I don't foresee any issue on the horizon. The coffee does get cold if you leave it in the carafe for over an hour but a thermos solves that. IT DOES NOT HAVE A TIMER IF THATS WHAT YOURE LOOKING FOR.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →yeah I mean while it worked it was great. Please be on the lookout for the beep at the end of the brew cycle. If it has one long beep, that's a good thing. If it's 5 single beeps, then you should call oxo immediately.
r/JamesHoffmann • View on Reddit →I had an oxo for ages-still have it, actually, it's not broken but someone gave me a moccamaster. Both make very good coffee, but the moccamaster has a slight edge. It isn't programmable though.
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I've had both, both are great, long-lasting machines
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I just ordered an 8 cup due to the fact it's more than half the price of a MM and have heard that although MM stuff is replaceable it still feels cheap. If I'm paying $500 CAD for a drip machine I want it to feel like a $500 machine. Also not into having to manually fuck with my grinds as it brews like some MM users claim they have to to get a great brew. Seen a lot of Amazon reviews claiming their MM overflows or doesn't distribute the water evenly on the grounds. OXO also has a 2-4 cup option if you don't make a full pot everyday like myself whereas the MM doesn't have that option (Will update my thoughts after trying when it arrives)
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Sorry to hear that! Ours is still plugging away after almost 3 years...
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Have this one and love it. The thermos keeps coffee warm for a day or two as well
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →Seems like a good price. I love my oxo 8 cup but would have tried moccamaster for 250
r/BuyItForLife • View on Reddit →I had a Bonavita for 7 years before it crapped out. Now on an OXO 8-cup, 2 years in. Daily use.
r/Moccamaster • View on Reddit →I've had very good results with this coffee maker. OXO Brew 8-Cup Coffee Maker -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9G93WK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
r/homeowners • View on Reddit →The Bonavita company I believe stopped making them and have zero ongoing support. So I didn't get another. OXO 8-cup has been rock solid. The mixed reviews are from folks that simply don't know how to make a pot of coffee. No frills, thermal carafe, pre-infusion, and brew starts with water temp at 205°F The Rocky is more than great for grinding drip coffee. Probably overkill to be honest. I occasionally use it for grinding espresso as well, for which it is highly usable. However if my primary use-case was espresso I would likely go with a different grinder. Specifically one that has zero or extremely low retention
r/Moccamaster • View on Reddit →It makes really weak coffee. I had one for 5 years and switched to the OXO (suggested right below this). I was shocked at the quality difference.
