Moccamaster (Technivorm) - KB

This is the only answer! I was addicted to Starbucks mostly out of habit but I couldn't stop because the coffee made at home did not taste good for me UNTIL I got a moccamaster. I've saved literally thousands of dollars. It's buy it for life because if you end up needing to replace a part, the company sells individual parts you can purchase.

I have mine on a smart plug. I wake up at 630 have it turn on to brew at certain amount, turn off and then tuen on again when my spouse wakes up. No fancy settings on the coffee maker, but it just works, perfectly.

No complaints on quality of the brew on the 2nd one vs brewing a whole pot at once but I agree it might depend on the timing between brews. For us, it's about an hour, 6:30-6:35 and then again at 7:40-8:30 (leaves the heating element on so it stays warm if they want more). If there's more time between 1st and 2nd you might get a noticeable effect on quality

I dont know which my moccamaster is, but I know that it does shut off in 60 minutes, physically flips the off switch so I have a smart plug routine that simply does it at 59 minutes when I brew a full pot (like on the weekend) that overrides the auto shut off so I never have to physically flip the switch

Moccamaster if you want a machine and need to brew for more than one person, otherwise a chemex or hario v60 are hard to beat but you'll also need a gooseneck kettle with temp control. Grinder will make more difference than brewing gear. For single pour overs; save money and get a quality hand grinder ~$100. If you're willing to invest in something more robust, something like an ode gen 2 is recommend ~$400.

I also brew light roast (mostly September), and came from aeropress. I also find MM often produces bitter and sour at the same time lol. Aeropress body will be hard to replicate on MM, doubly so with SSP burrs which provide more clarity than body. What volume of water did you do and at what ratio? I'm starting to find you need to adjust things depending on if you're doing 500 grams water vs 1000 grams water. Also, what kind of water are you using? I find aeropress you can get away with whatever water, but MM isn't as forgiving.

I bought one of these a while back and although I love it, parts are nearly impossible to get if you don't want to send your machine away to Technivorm. Messaged the American arm, the og Netherlands arm, multiple dealers and they all sent me in circles for weeks until I finally heard back. The one thing absolutely every email response had in common (from branches and dealers alike) was that they said internal parts cannot be sold to the public (minus some basic stuff on their site) for any reason to protect their brand. I was super disappointed so went to third party's to buy online and my parts orders would get cancelled and they would send me a follow up email stating the same thing (cannot sell parts to public). It can only be sent off for repair which isn't entirely bad, but I really, really didn't like the whole experience. At the end of the day, I just needed two new silicone gaskets, a new thermal cutoff switch and a glass tube for inside and decided to make mine out of a piece of copper and bought a similar cutoff switch from Amazon which was rated for something similar. The silicone parts aren't replaced right now so the shower head falls off now and then which I don't like. They are pretty retro looking devices but after 40 years of buying every coffee making widget since Mr. Coffee showed up this is the end of the line for me. Technivorm to the rescue!

I agree A LOT of cheap drip machines last. Honestly they're basic machines so they should. OP stated they've had issues with others though and the Technivorm Moccamaster machine and company behind it has been proven over decades. So if they're ready to go Buy it for Life this is the answer.

I got this as a wedding present 5 years ago and have since bought it for my parents after demanding they switch off Keurig. It's been a game changer and my parents swear by it now as well. Meh, it makes a good cup of coffee, is well built and has the ability to be repaired by you. But you can get just as good a cup of coffee for less than half the price. It's 100% a splurge luxury item.

Went on vacation and started a pot of coffee. Came back into the kitchen 10 minutes later and it was still brewing. I forgot how slow regular drip coffee makers are. Moccamaster has spoiled me.

It might be good to add the mochamaster to your list. Makes good coffee and has good warranty/ cs.

We just bought a Moccamastar and love it. We're fairly pedestrian when it comes to coffee but it certainly does a better job than the $20 Walmart percolators we used to use. It also looks great on the kitchen counter.

Honestly? Something like a Cuisinart or Breville or Ninja is just fine for her. A Moccamaster or an Aiden are absurd, terrible recommendations for someone who doesn't care that much about coffee, lol. That's like buying a Pappy Van Winkle for someone who only drinks Bud Light, or a Traeger for a vegetarian. If they aren't into coffee, they're not gonna care about "SCA certified" or any of that quality stuff. In fact, they probably care more about how it looks, how fast it brews coffee, and maybe some of the other bells and whistles attached like a programmable timer. Don't spend money on something that's purely built for quality coffee; spend on the features instead.

The Moccamaster flavor is about the same as other cone filter coffee makers but it's lasted me 3 years, brews faster, and looks cooler. I had Braun and Cuisinart makers that would only last 2 years like clockwork. We are HEAVY users.

I grind the beans fresh every morning. We get two bags of Jim's brand, sweet love flavor, delivered every couple of weeks and it works perfectly to a pot a day.

You select the beans, grinder, grind size, quantity of beans, water quality. Moccamaster simply heats the water to optimal temp. Don't expect stellar results unless you do your part.

I'd go with the [Moccamaster](https://productbible.com/product/technivorm-moccamaster) if you want a drip brewer. Nothing else comes close in terms of BIFL.

A Moccamaster has remained in an elite tier of coffee machines for a long time for a reason; it makes really good coffee...though if I were OP and deadset on buying one, I'd get one with an insulated carafe, rather than one with a glass carafe on a hot plate. But best non espresso coffee bar none is a bold claim. With admittedly more work, doing a pour over (or sometimes french press, depending on what sort of beans I had and what I was trying to get from them), I could pretty consistently get coffee that was better than what a Moccamaster could do, and although I have plenty of experience and might be a bit better than average, I don't think I'm particularly excellent at pour overs (I do think my french press technique is better than most, but that's a whole different conversation...). Now, however, I've got a Fellow Aiden and have had to grudgingly concede that the machine can make coffee just as well--if not better in many instances--than I could. But I've only had the Aiden for \~6 months, so we'll see if its longevity can match a Moccamaster; it's certainly more fiddly and thus with more potential failure points than a Moccamaster.

Super basic, well built, repairable and makes damn good coffee. It really is the perfect drip coffee maker.

Seconding Technivorm Moccamaster for the $$ tier of coffeemaker, but choosing Kalita Wave and Aeropress for $ tier

I do wish they'd get rid of most of the plastic but at this point in my life, and after all the microwaved shit my parents fed me as a kid, the MM is the least of my concerns.

So if you're okay with a V60 / Chemex (the lack of automation, extra effort and time needed) then don't get a Moccamaster tbh, it's not worth it. Don't get me wrong, I love mine a lot, but I was thinking about this the other day and that's my conclusion. If you're in the market for -specifically- a filter coffee machine, then a moccamaster is a great option

A lot. I was genuinely pissed off that I waited as long as I did to have a really good cup of coffee. Still to this day, the only thing that I regret is not buying the moccamaster sooner.

I love my moccamaster. I use that for every day, pre ground..just trying to get out the door coffee. Ive also got a breville espresso machine for the weekends when I want to fuss around with lattes. They both make coffee that tastes miles and away better than cheaper machines.

They are really simple machines so getting one that is more expensive means it is probably full of features you don't need but that are points of failure. You really need to go high end on drip machines. Like, my programmable Sage (Breville outside of the EU) Precision Brewer is great but it's a 300€ machine. Even a Moccamaster is just a 300€ machine that has two buttons. On/off and half / full can. It's maybe a bit more stylish. It might have a more complex program, it might have higher quality materials. But none of that matters if you don't grind your coffee in the morning. You can throw some store bought pre ground garbage into the cheapest coffee maker you can find and it will taste the same. So just get the 30€ one and replace it every 2 years. Everything between 30 and 300€ is just the 30€ machine with a timer.
