Yes, but I'd recommend a dashcam with higher resolution than 1080p. Preferably 2.5K* or 4K. I like Viofo.

if you download the viofo app, you turn on the wifi in the dashcam and connect your phone to that wifi network and then open the viofo app. you can then playback videos directly off the dashcam or download the video to your phone. it works pretty well for me, I just had to rtfm to figure out how to turn the wifi on the first time.

yeah I originally had 2.4ghz wifi selected on my a229 pro and it was really slow. switching it to 5ghz made it a lot faster, I can scrub though the video playback without much buffering which supprised me. It is still pretty slow to download a copy to my phone though.

With NextBase youre paying a massive premium on the guise of it being a "British" brand... VIOFO A229 Pro. Ridiculous quality and you've got the option of forward facing, inside facing and rear facing. It's got a parking mode too and voice commands. It's the brand that's generally most recommended on dash cam forums and r/dashcam last I check

Been looking into this as well. I like my Viofo A229 in my Mustang, and will eventually buy one for the new CX-50 but with the preferred trim the hard wiring seems to be the hardest part with no sunroof or frameless mirror. Would love to know if others have done it and whether they went into the engine bay through the firewall or tapped in somewhere else

Whatever you pick, I'd recommend against a camera that dangles off a mount unless it's very small. I tried a Thinkware Q200 but I had to take it off immediately bc the Tacoma windshield is so small, it distracted my view no matter where I tried mounting it. I got a Viofo A229 instead and like another commenter, I mounted it in the black dot area of the windshield next to the mirror and I hardly notice it.

We had a FitCamX hardwired in our 24 Ioniq 5 and it would not loop record. I had 2 very close calls the FitCamX completely missed. FitCamX could not resolve why my camera would not work, and after 1 month of trying, I yanked it out and replaced it with a Viofo A229 that has been flawless. I have ours setup for recording when parked, a function the FitCamX failed at as well. A lot of people report good experience with FitCamX but that wasn't my use case. When we were troubleshooting the FitCamX, it had a Beta testing vibe to the process. FitCamX will relentlessly work with you to their credit and when I returned the camera to them, they fully refunded me without any prodding.

I had a hardwired FitCamX, and it would not loop record. I ended up replacing it with a hardwired VIOFO A229, which has been flawless. I had two near-miss incidents, the FitCamX missed, and after several attempts to fix the issue with FitCamX, I gave up on it. A dashcam is for peace of mind, and I could trust that the device would work when needed. If you get the FitCamX, thoroughly test and periodically confirm that it is doing loop recordings. FitCamX as a company is reputable and well-intended. They refunded me the full amount without any prodding. We needed our camera to be hardwired because we want to record when the car is parked; this is a feature the FitCamX does not support.

If you believe the Wirecutter, go for a Viofo or a Miofive (budget pick; I tried one; it was junk). https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-dash-cam/ This recommendation was published before the A329 came out, or I believe they would recommend it. I've had both the A229 Pro and the A329; I find the latter to be a better dashcam, mostly for its SSD support.

Whatever you do get, look into tapping into the rearview mirror power. Eliminatees having to run a wire to a power source so far away. https://dongar.tech/products/10pin-type-b-lexus-toyota I currently run the A229 pro with wifi to phone to quick access when the car is on. No subscription is required and can handle 3 channels (front, rear, and interior).

My thought as well. The SD card must be the higher-quality Extreme or Industrial use. You may experience irratic behaviors that are unexplainable in some cases. The lower quality SD cards can be more exposed to vibration while writing to the card. The speed on the higher quality are much faster, ~190 Mbs per second enabling writing your video clips to the SD less read/write errors or video loss. The lower quality SD card writes about ~100Mbs per second also half the speed of the higher end. I have owned Viofo for at least ten years and have not been disappointed. The continue to add features or benefits to their product mix. I have undated the firmware to the latest version. Like any technology updating your firmware that is recommended by the OEM is key to any satisfaction. The A229 and 329 dash cams have very fast video and snapshot photos or parking mode. THIS would probably explain your to slow message when it reads the card or formats the card it sees a low speed transfer or read/write. Anyways, Best dash cam I have used.

I have absolutely no idea why it failed. It wasn't baking in the sun, didn't fall, nothing of more. It just stopped turning on. I tried another power cable for it and still wouldn't turn on or anything. When I complained they offered a refund, not a replacement or repair so I never heard back what was wrong with it. I've had a viofo a229 since then and it's much better, no issues at all.

My current fav is Viofo A229 Pro. It offers fantastic 4K video quality with HDR, both front and rear, and the Sony Starvis 2 sensors make nighttime footage incredibly clear. Setup is a breeze, and it doesn't require an app or account, which I appreciate for simplicity.

I second the VIOFO, ought mine on Amazon, hardwire installed it myself in 15 minutes, comes on and records when the car comes on, shuts off when car is off. You can buy it online and any local car stereo shop can install it in minutes if you aren't comfortable hiding the wires and using a fuse tap yourself.

They're pretty well hidden and out of the way for me. You can see the front one is hidden behind the rearview mirror and doesn't interfere with Eyesight cameras. The rear is so small it doesn't block the way either. https://preview.redd.it/c5iguy5u4qcf1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26e545b05d271ea466f9bf7d2d2e1c8878a374d2

Viofo or Thinkware, and any dashcam equipped with the Starvis2 sensor, are the go-to for dash cam enthusiasts when it comes to picture quality and license plate reading. The most optimal parking mode setup, but most pricey, is a 2/3ch dash cam hardwired into an external LiFePo4 battery that is then hardwired to driver/passenger fuse box. This setup will provide parking mode and reduce the wear and tear on your 12v battery. If parking mode isn't something you need, you can just to the 12v accessory socket for normal driving dash cam use. I used Viofo A139 Pro and have installed Viofo A229 Pro on family's car.

Rather than supporting Amazon's evil ways and potentially getting a counterfeit product, I recommend supporting a smaller retailer that's going to offer you a decent price, actual support, and knowledgeable reviews. I usually order from [https://www.blackboxmycar.com/](https://www.blackboxmycar.com/) and have been very happy with their service. Now, since you asked for "best" and not "best at a reasonable price" I think you'll be looking at a Thinkware U3000 Pro (4K front and 2K rear), BlackVue DR970X-2CH (4k front and HD rear cameras) or VIOFO A329T (4K front and 2K rear cameras). I personally like the Viofo ones better because of the screen, but they don't have cloud capabilities. So, if you want to protect yourself from auto theft, where the camera leave along with the car, then you'll want something that's cloud-enabled like the BlackVue. In reality, each of the options above are way more cameras than anyone needs and are likely more expensive than what you're willing to pay. Each manufacturer also offers decent cameras with similar specs for much less. But without knowing your price point and you looking for "the best", those are it. For me, I'm more concerned about recording while driving and watching out for parking lot dings, so I'm fine with the Viofo. I have the A229 Pro in two of my cars and they have been flawless (https://www.blackboxmycar.com/products/viofo-a229-pro-4k-uhd-3-ch-dash-cam). It's available as a front (1ch), front+rear (2ch), or front+rear+inside (3ch) option.

I installed the Viofo A229 Pro in my Girlfriend's 2018 Forester. Ran the wires from the camera under the backside of the cover for the eyesight and then around to the windshield and under the headliner, down the A piller and under/behind the glove box. The rear camera wire is run along the edge of the headliner back to the boot for the rear door wiring harness, then through that and down to the window. The front camera is mounted directly below the rearview mirror dead center. It doesn't interfere with the eyesight at all there. There is a hardwire kit, but only necessary if you want it to run while parked.

I recently installed a VIOFO 229 Pro. It takes some time, but it's not difficult. Hardwiring is easier than it sounds and is the superior option, especially if you want your camera to record when parked. Someone mentioned battery drain, but most cameras come with a voltage cut off that you adjust (e.g. 12.4, 12.2, 12, and 11.8). I have mine set to 12.2v and it usually records 4 hours post parking at a low bit rate. I did a ton of research before buying, so if you have any questions, send me a DM.

Did you run the hardwire kit into the engine bay fuse box? I started to install an A229, but since all the interior fuses are always hot, I couldn't use those for fear of draining the battery. And the odb2 kit I tried to use was too short for the purpose. Running the line into the engine bay was more than I was comfortable with at the time, but seems the only option.

Dashcams tend to be sensitive to the type of micro SD card you put in them. Viofo recommends only a couple of different types of card for their dashcams. So there's many reasons why that reviewer's dashcam didn't capture his daughter's curb hit. I have used the Viofo A229 as well as the newer A329; both are excellent cameras. Good build quality, nice features, and highly configurable. I've had mine installed throughout two brutal Houston summers (my G70 lives outdoors) and it has survived without problem. I prefer the A329 because it can record to an SSD, which I prefer for several reasons. Good camera -- I recommend it.

Viofo is one of the most recommended brands on Reddit and other forums mainly due to perceived superior image quality (thanks to Sony sensor) so I just got the A229 Pro recently. I do not recommend it. It's very 'overseas' if you know what I mean. I had a Thinkware before and it was great, I'd recommend it.

For reliable dash cams that can withstand high temperatures in Australia and offer 3-channel recording (front, rear, and cabin), I recommend looking into the VIOFO A229 Pro 3-Channel. It features high-quality 4K UHD recording for the front, 2K QHD for the rear, and Full HD for the interior, making it an excellent choice for comprehensive coverage. While VIOFO does have models with 2 channels, the A229 Pro is specifically designed to provide robust performance in various conditions, including high heat. It also includes features like HDR and Super Night Vision to ensure clear footage in different lighting situations. If you need more specific details or assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team at [info@blackboxmycar.com](mailto:info@blackboxmycar.com) or through Live Chat on our website. If you judge "best" by most integrated features and system from one manufacturer, I'd say it would be the BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE PlusDR970X-2CH LTE Plus with their extended use battery pack and data plan. It has the new(ish) Starvis 2 4K sensor for its front camera, so is among the best in PQ and if you subscribe to a monthly BlackVue plan you can access the camera at all times. because it has its own cellular connection. [https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/](https://blackvue.com/product/dr970x-2ch-lte-plus-na/) [https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/](https://blackvue.com/product/blackvue-ultra-battery-b-130a/) [https://blackvue.com/sim-card/](https://blackvue.com/sim-card/) It's too pricey for my budget and has features that I don't require, so I personally chose a Viofo A229 Pro about 1 1/2 years ago. Today, I'd probably go for the Viofo A329.

I went through this whole process before the holidays. After reading reviews, checking r/dashcams , etc. I decided on the VIOFO A229 Pro. You will find that it is recommended more than any others, despite what others are saying. I paid $130 through Amazon for what would have cost almost $500. I took advantage of the $200 signing bonus for the Amazon Cr Card and together with the Black Friday deal I think I scored. Will be installing when the weather warms a bit. Doing install myself. Installation could be dead simple if you arent hardwiring, I would just use the usb port in the glove box. But if youre hardwiring, its fairly straightforward. Hardest part is tucking the cables under the headliner as its pretty tight. The most consistent and best dash cam Ive used has been the viofo a229, get the cam with the amount of cameras you want/need and get the hardwire kit. For the 718, theres two empty slots that you just use the add a fuse on that comes with the kit

The new lenses are a game changer! This new 4K +60 FPS will be amazing to act as both recording high quality video clips for my drives in the desert while also have the security of a dash cam! I love the customer service of the VIOFO UAE team. They really know their stuff, and they helped me pick out some models for friends and family. They answered every query I had, which is super rare these days, and the Installation was easy. What I would love to see in future models is a screen-free model, since many of my friends and family are seniors, and they don't want additional screens occupying the windshield. A discrete model that just covers the front and rear will be a great addition to the current lineup. I understand this may be challenging to implement, as the control module needs some space. My recommendation would be to have a covered control box that could be hidden under the dashboard. And the camera unit itself could be really slim and attached to the control box through cables. Just how we currently implement rear-view cams. Just the camera lens running the wires to the front unit, which is acting as both front camera and control box. Doesn't have to be 4k or even 2K units, even a simple 1080P Unit would be useful to act as a security feature and number plate readings. Huge fan of the VIOFO A229 lines, would love one for my personal car!
