i really really like the viofo. i bought the a119 on sale on amazon 2 years ago and it's been recording consistently ever since because it is motion/bump activated when i'm not driving. i hardwired it into my car. cannot recommend it enough.

I got this one for all my vehicles. I like it. [Rexing dash cam](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CJN33W3S?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1) I previously had a Viofo A119. It died just out of warranty, but it had problems before that. The customer support said to upgrade the firmware. That fixed it several times (PITA) before warranty end, but did not fix it after warranty end. It was a POS.

I suggest to get any Viofo besides the A229 (audio quality can turn loud at certain times), Either go with the A119 or A129, best models or either a Garmin or Thinkware, you can find some of them for under $200 or $100 and they're very easy to install!

This is the one I use, as well. It's been doing the job, but there have been occasions where the unit doesn't begin to record when the vehicle is started. Thankfully, you can see this happening because the red REC led light blinks rapidly. Turning it off/on again seems to rectify it. It hasn't happened for sometime, but it was a concern.

I use front only in both my cars. Viofo a119v3 using the dongar specific adapter to power it from the power mirror. Mache install was super simple. Plastic around the mirror pops off and you unplug mirror and replace with the dongar adapter cable and reinstall and done

Viofo makes very good dash-cams available on Amzn, they're highly ranked in reviews, not cheap units. I have three A229 2K dual cameras and A129 Pro 4K dual on a total of 4 cars. The A129 pro got stolen by tow truck driver when it was headed to the mechanic. If you're DIY installing the rear camera can take a little bit of work threading the long cable, but lots of YouTube video step by steps. Viofo also has front-only A119 V3 cameras, those are easy to install you simply push the cable into the headliner and down the A pillar, around the back of the glove box to your 12V power source. There's also a short power cable you can buy that tape power from the power home-link rear view mirror.

I'm successfully using Viofo A119 and this cable on my two Toyotas https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2D78KMJ?ref=emc_b_5_mob_t Other Redditors reported success with this one as well https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZ7QJVHC?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=1 You just buy this cable (12P type C), open the lane assist cover, connect this Y cable in between the lane assist connection, and with that, you have a powered USB port right in the middle of your windshield. Then just install the Viofo cam or anything else needed and connect it there. Done. Simple as that. No hard routing in the A-pillars etc. It's the same method FitcamX uses, except Fitcamx is pretty bad quality compared to Viofo. Viofo always alerts when the recording is not working for whatever reason, FitcamX stays silent so you can easily miss recording on accident.

The quality is 2560x1440, meaning you can still zoom in a fair amount and still have 1080p quality. Overall quality of picture will be determined by lighting, as with any camera, but I have not had any issues with it. Ease of use is great. Its got plenty of straight forward options that you just set up and forget. I have mine setup to turn on when my car turns on, and off when the car is off. There are parking mode settings and battery saver settings, but I just don't personally use them) I just forget its there until I press the button to save the clip. "Ability to easily wipe past data with nothing important to show" : The camera has two recording sections. One is the section thats always recording everything, and it will fill up, and then start replacing the oldest clips with the newest. The other section is clips you have saved. If you press the save button, that clip is put into a separate folder and not at risk to be deleted. If you press the button close to where two clips overlap, it actually saves both, which has been awesome. "Quality of app associated with it when applicable" Honestly I have no idea if there is an app. I just pop the SD card out, put it in my computer, and move the saved files over to my computer. Then I delete them off the SD card and pop it back into the dash cam. Easy as that.

Ok General Rules Yes some dashcams have batteries, No they are not designed to run the camera with the vehicle parked. Generally you want one with a capacitor, better for our heat. Some can be powered via USB ports, some can't. Some in built car USB ports are not always reliable power for dash cams either. For a sub $200 dashcam Viofo A119 V3 is probably the best bet.

Many like the fitcam but I got the dongar rear view mirrow power adapter which provides USB power to many dashcam types. I personally like VIOFOs simple A119 non wifi unit with the antiglare lense, its a great camera and doesnt have an internal battery (just a capacitor) they are known to last a very long time. The Ford Lightning specific mudguards for front and rear are great and look good.

If you just want a good front dashcam, the Viofo A119 v3 will fit the bill. I put the A329 in because I wanted the better image quality and rear camera. Was worth the extra shekels. Buy once, cry once, if you can budget a bit more. Whatever you get, make sure you get a high or max endurance microSD card.

How much are you wanting to spend? I just got a GX460 and went with a Viofo A119v3. The reason I picked it is that I felt it was the best performance per dollar. I got it just around boxing week so I paid less than $90. I also got a FitDVR to make the install easy and clean. The FitDVR takes power from your rearview and gives you a usb port and a 12v barrel jack. Planning on getting a radar detector now just to make use of the 12v jack.

I've successfully installed a Viofo A119 dash cam (A119 is just the front camera though) in both of my Toyotas using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2D78KMJ?ref=emc_b_5_mob_t Several other Redditors have also reported good results with this alternative: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZ7QJVHC?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_H76099TX42XDAEK2XCE3&starsLeft=1&skipTwisterOG=1 All you need is the 12-pin Type-C cable. Just pop open the lane assist cover, plug the Y-cable inline with the existing connection, and you've got a powered USB port right at the top-center of your windshield. No need to run wires through A-pillars or do any hardwiring. This is basically the same installation method that FitcamX uses, but in my experience, Viofo is much more reliable. Viofo gives audible alerts if recording fails, while FitcamX stays silent-so you might not realize it's not recording until it's too late. Hope this helps someone avoid a messy install!

I use Viofo 119 mini for the front camera and the 119 v3 for the rear camera. The whole setting costs less that $200 total when on sale. I prefer the smaller one up front so that it occupies less of my windshield. I bough a long usb C cable and run it from the middle console, under the floor mats, to the rear window. It sucks that the new Highlander doesn't have a 12v or an usb port in the trunk area.

Just remember that you get what you pay for with dashcams otherwise it won't be much use when the time comes to view your footage. Pay at least £100 and don't cheap out on an SD card either. Buy literally any Viofo and you'll be happy. I've been running my A119V3 since buying my first car in 2018 and I'm now on my second car and the same camera and SD card are still going strong. I think you can buy this same camera still for £104 brand new and you will save even more if you use one of the discount codes from popular YouTubers which will bring the price a little closer to the price you might be willing to pay.

I have the A119 V3 and I've had so many problems with it. The GPS unit that mounts to the window has a shoddy terminal connection so it drops out constantly - this also means I have to replug the cable whenever I take the dashcam down. The parking mode files corrupt randomly and I'm using an expensive SanDisk SD card and checked against multiple cards. I wish someone had warned me that Viofo isn't all that polished a brand. The video is crisper than other dash cams but so many other problems...

Viofio A119 V3, going on 3 years with the same camera/256GB Samsung High Endurance Micro SD card I bought it with. That's means being stuck to my windshield through over 8 Midwestern US seasons driving 30k per year. Only issues are occasionally needing to switch back to the proper date and turning off the overly sensitive "crash sensor" that flips out when going over small bumps.

None of these cameras had a Sony Starvis 2 sensor, yet if you pay a little extra, you can step up to the newer version of the Viofo A119, the A119 Mini2 which does, and which would beat the Viofo A119 V3 that won this test in the same way that the V3 beat most of the competition! Having stepped up to current generation Sony Starvis 2, you can then step up to the 4K version, which is another significant step, and then you get a bit stuck on image quality and going for a far more expensive Blackvue or Thinkware is currently a step down in image quality relative to the 4K Viofo A229 Pro, only reason you would take that step is to get cloud access to your parked car, but that is an expensive choice, both in cash and in license plate readability. Best image quality currently is the Viofo A329 series, which not only has Sony Starvis 2 sensors, but has also moved to the next generation of processors, which is bringing quite a few advantages.

The other cameras are what uninformed people actually buy on Amazon, and his test usefully showed how poor some of them are. So yes, they are true competitors, but not competitive, except in their fake Amazon reviews and fake claims of 4K resolution! Half of them claimed to be "4K", but the 2K Viofo, released last decade, "ran circles around them all"! Maybe for the follow up, he will include a couple more of the better brands, but his style isn't to do a test with only the best, where the differences are tiny; he always includes a wide range from junk to excellent, where his testing shows clear differences, and that is why he has so many subscribers! Note that Viofo is also made in China, but it doesn't go in the junk category, they actually design and build them from scratch in their own factory with better facilities than most western manufacturers. And they don't make false claims of "4K" in their Amazon listings until Amazon delists the brand and they have to invent yet another new brand name to start up with again! In the long run, cheating doesn't work, hard work and great customer support does, and it is good to see Viofo winning this test, and all the positive comments about Viofo product and support in the video comments.
