For me, it was between REI Base Camp 6 and Eureka Space Camp. The Eureka had more room but the REI was more bomb proof. And I really liked the ability to close up the REI tent for cooler weather. We are not the type of family to let bad weather spoil our trip. I'm not familiar with snow peak tents but I would guess this comes down to personal preference depending on your intended use. Just buy them both, open them up in an dry and clean space, check out their features, then return the one that better suits you. Edit: Upon further review, the alpha breeze and Eureka Space Camp are wildly different sizes, making comparisons difficult.

Big Tent Pros: Lots of space, can stand up inside, comfy! Big Tent Cons: More difficult to set up alone. Takes up more space in your vehicle. Needs a larger flat area to set up. I camp solo and got tired of squeezing into my little 2 man tent and having to do complicated yoga just to change clothes. I ended up getting REI's Basecamp 6 person tent and I LOVE it. It takes a little longer to set up and is a little more difficult to do by yourself (especially if you're short like me), but I love having lots of space for me and the dog and my stuff. For car camping where weight isn't important, I just go all out. That said, if I'm car camping in an area where I know flat, open space at the site will be limited, I'll pack my small tent instead. Most of my camping is dispersed desert camping, though, and I usually don't have any trouble finding space.

Love our Rei base camp 6. Currently using it for a week at scout camp where it's been heavy rain for at least an hour every day/night. I'm dry and bug free and happy. We've had it for 10 years. I've seam sealed maybe twice in that time. Originally purchased to fit two packnplay's and a queen air mattress when our twins were babies. The twins are taking up more space but the 4 of of are still comfy and have plenty of room.

Came here to say MSR. I've had the Mutha Hubba for about 15 years, so also can't speak to current quality but I haven't heard of any issues. I also have a larger 6 person REI brand tent that seems to be very high quality at a better price point. They use the same style aluminum poles as MSR. The main thing that made me choose MSR originally was that you can't even purchase their poles. If you somehow managed to break one, they will always replace them for free. Aftermarket parts don't exist because they'll just send you one.

Six person tent, not 4. When we went to REI to buy our first family tent, the salesperson looked at as and leaned over and said "just my WIFE and I use a four person tent. You want the six". REI Basecamp 6 is great. Full rain fly with two vestibules, but still fast and easy to put up.

I can 2nd the REI base camp. The quality vs price is very hard to beat. We have our older model (don't remember which exactly ) away and I've missed it.

We have an REI Basecamp 6 and two Kingdom cots. Just enough space for two glampers, and oh, such a good night's sleep.

Yes! I have the hubba and the hubba hubba. Both on their second fly (just due to wear not failure) and I did have them send me a couple poles noting taking it in the snow wasn't the best idea. Still worked though! I forgot we also have the REI 6 person - the basecamp. It's been great for car camping.

The BC6 is amazing... it is super durable and easy to set up. At 5'4" you might struggle a little at first with set up, especially in the wind, but once you do it a bunch of times... it is easy to do. (poles are all color coordinated and chorded together. I use it beach camping so it stands up to the wind... and has plenty of mesh to be breezy on those hot days. Given the sale... I would recommend. I really miss the kingdome 6 and 8... it had a built in screen porch side that gave you the choice to have a tent and screen porch all in one. A true glamping tent! If you get it, post photos!

The Basecamp is a bomber tent. Not truly for winter, but it's strong, and has a full fly that will withstand almost anything mother nature throws at you. A key difference between the 4 and 6 is the peak height is 63" for the 4, versus 74" for the 6. And since it's a dome, it won't have the same vertical walls and space as some other campground friendly tents. Just for comparison, the REI Wonderland 4 has a peak height of 75" peak height. It has more poles, and will challenge you when you first set it up, but once you figure it out it's not bad at all. Decent weather coverage, lots of windows and mesh. a Snow Peak Alpha Breeze is a 4 person, with a 73" peak height, more vertical walls, while still having very good fly coverage. The Nemo Aurora has a peak height of 74" for a 4 person tent. It doesn't have the full fly that the Basecamp does, but it does have good coverage and is a very good tent. The North Face Wawona is maybe closest to the Basecamp in size, peak height. Built to handle fairly bad weather too. If you want weather protection, and height, the Big Agnes Bunkhouse should be on the Outlet, and you could use a 20% off outlet coupon. Meaning instead of the outlet price of $419, it will be $335.

If you're going non canvas, I like tents with a full rain fly and the main body has a good amount of mesh. I camp solo with a Kelty Wireless 4 person tent. (I do wish it had aluminum poles) And I camp with two people in a REI basecamp 6, older model. Both of these tents I can set up by myself easily.

I like full coverage rain flys and good vestibules. Marmot Limestone has been my recent purchase and I'm quite happy with it. Great headroom. Before that, I used (and still have) my older 4 season REI Basecamp 6.p - great for storms, not much for headroom though.

Kelty Day Dreamer 6p - Simple, only two poles, blackout rainfly and large back vent Coleman Peak 1 6p - Cabin-esque tent with plenty of mesh and large front door that has a canopy mode in the fly Aurora Highrise 6p - Another canopy mode tent with windows on the inside for catching cross breezes even with the fly on and a back vestibule and door Snow Peak Alpha Breeze (bit heavier here) - Four doors/windows to catch all breezes, clean white rainfly helps deflect more heat, large doors and canopy mode in the fly REI Basecamp 6 - Extra poles for a more wind resistant tent, symmetrical design allows the rainfly to be pitched on either side, one side has an extended vestibule for more space and shade, canopy mode on both sides of the rainfly, and internal windows to let cool air in and plenty of vents. Lots of privacy even with the rainfly off and the choice to open panels for better ventilation. Honorable mention because it's a unique one: Big Agnes Wyoming Trail 4 - Its one tent, comprised of two smaller sleep sections (think of two roomy two person tents) conjoined by a sort of common space between them all under the roof of one large rainfly, each tent section has its own entry and the common space has two doors, and canopy mode feature.

Basecamp is a great tent with a garbage warranty and repair policy. REI only warranties for 1 year, they don't repair tents and don't sell parts. For this reason alone I would take the Bunkhouse hands down. BA has a lifetime warranty.

REI brand tents are actually great. The base camp 6 is my favorite car camping tent, hands down. First one I owned I knew NOTHING about tent maintenance and never once cleaned or treated it and it lasted 15 years through tons of use and some crazy storms. Replaced it with the 2021 model and was very happy with it. The Nemo aurora would probably be my second pick but it lacks a full rainfly and the windows are poorly designed. The North Face wawona is fine. Also for the record I worked at REI for 3 years in the camp department, but we call it hardgoods (started after I purchased my second base camp)

REI base camp 6 is what we have for 4 people. It's pricey but you can stand up in the middle of the tent. It has 2 vestibules which I appreciate and pockets on the inside everywhere.

My family of 4 sleeps pretty luxuriously in a basecamp 6, the basecamp 4 should be fine for one person and easier to set up. It is just over 5' in the center so you wouldn't be able to have a dance party, but you'd be able to easily stand up and put your pants on or whatever

I got the REI Base Camp 6 person a couple years ago when it went on sale in the spring. I love the tent and it handles storms so well. I've been in heavy rain and 70mph wind storms and it handled really well. Plenty of room to hang out If we are spending a couple of days someplace it's my go to tent This was our 3rd year with it and haven't had anything break or rip yet and we camp a lot

I actually do like the tent. I don't doubt it would satisfy my needs. However, I'm more worried on warranty for the price I'm paying for it.
