If aesthetics and noise levels are important to you, Coway ProX for the main living space (assuming it's large-ish) and any Coway "medium spaces" unit (use their website to filter) for the Bedroom. Total ~$1k. If aesthetics and noise levels are not important, two AirFanta 3Pro, run on Medium-High, about $400. If aesthetics are not important but noise is, four AirFanta 3Pro, run on Low or Medium-Low, about $800. If your budget is a little flexible and you want the highest CADR with the smallest footprint and lowest noise, a SMART AIR BLAST - MKII for the main living space (about $1,100) and any Coway "medium spaces" unit. Total, about $1,500.

Best value for max CADR? AirFanta 3PRO $150 USD - adjustable speed, travels well, newer version can be used with power bank. Slight whine noise at highest speed. Want nicer looking/no whine? North Box or Clean Air Kits Standard unit, purchase off Amazon? Lago, hands down. I've bought 8? for various family members. I've bought air filters for ages due to allergies, and the only thing it doesn't do better than the Austin Air I have is clean smoke/odors. But I also bought 6 Lagos for the price of the last Austin Air replacement filter I got.

AirFanta 3PRO has the best CADR for its size and cost. On higher speeds it can have a slightly higher pitch that may be annoying.

Just get an air purifier with only the basics, no ionisation as that can contribute to ozone and make air quality worse. I actually made a mini CR boxes for myself and took it back with me to TW visiting family. It's amazing how dirty the filter gets only after 2 weeks in Taiwan. After 1 month it's as dirty as 6 months where I normally live. If you can source filters and pc fans, a dc adapter, and have DIY skills, you can definitely make your own most bang for buck in terms of CADR and power. I bought an AirFanta 3 pro for the house, but I don't know where to buy it from in Taiwan. That's only because the local options available here suck. There are heaps of diff brands and options in TW. Housefresh (on YouTube) has great reviews you could look at. Good luck! I didn't realise how much a difference clean air is until I started using purifiers.

[AirFanta 3Pro](https://air-fanta.com/products/airfanta-3pro). Much higher clean-air delivery rate (CADR) than most commercial air purifiers (413 cfm vs. ~230 cfm), compact, quiet on medium settings, and easy to disassemble and bring to doctor's appointments/hotels/relatives' places if you want to mitigate airborne hazards away from home. Adam, the engineer, is also great about troubleshooting issues and replacing defective parts for free. If you'd prefer one of the brands on your list, Coway is good.

The AirFanta 3Pro also uses PC fans so it's quiet. The speed can be adjusted with a dial to a noise level you can tolerate. I have sensory sensitivities and I'm very happy with mine. It's got a high CADR at a low volume level. The 3Pro is $159 and can filter VOCs, but you'd have to buy the carbon filters separately. So for portability, the AirFanta 3Pro would be your best bet. Running it on high sounds like you're torturing a computer, but its your best overall option on portability and efficiency. For the house, if you're only looking to filter out covid, its kind of hard because it takes X number of air changes (CADR) to effectively filter out the air, and that takes time relative to how fast and efficient your purifier is. You can't just plop a unit down and run it for 5 minutes then poof, the covid is gone. Also, I'd suggest running them in the home constantly, just to filter out allergens like dust and mold and whatnot. That way they're constantly on the hunt to filter the covid out and you can just move one over to wherever the "problem" is. If you have people at the house mask, especially strangers, it would eliminate a lot of these potential issues.

The air Fanta can break down easily and you shouldn't have an issue taking onto a plane with carry on, I'm not sure if you'd be able to bring a commercial plastic levoit the same way but checked bag would be fine then. Some people here months ago were saying the air Fanta is a scam and is only shilled for here but it felt like actual reviews from real people when I was discovering it and from my personal experience using it I've found it nice and portable especially since it can run on a USB c power bank and adapter for lower voltage.

AirFanta 3Pro with carbon filters? I'm not sure how big the litter box area is since this is a device that takes up a bit more floor space than usual. The AirFanta does have a high clean air delivery rate, especially for the price. You could run it at the lower fan speeds and still achieve good air cleaning, depending on how big a space you need it for. Have you tried different litters? I've found Arm and Hammer to be good for odors. Do they sell that brand in Canada?

I don't know how much it is in Canadian dollars, but the AirFanta 3 is a smaller version of a CR Box that doesn't require tape. It's about $150 usd. You can break it down flat so it's easy to travel with. It's also pretty quiet compared to regular commercial units because it uses PC fans. By far the biggest advantage is two-fold: one, it's extremely powerful (way more powerful than other units at its price point), so it will def give you enough coverage for a hospital room and two, it's portable and unobtrusive. Some people have tried to take air purifiers into hospitals and staff has tried to stop them. I know it sounds ridiculous, but doctors and nurses are having strange psychological reactions to anything that reminds them of Covid or the pandemic. I think there's an advantage to something collapsible that fits in a bag and takes up a small footprint. Whatever purifier you end up going with, def don't ask for permission to use it. Just bring it and plug it in. If that is out of your budget, probably recommend the Levoit vital 100, but it might end up being underpowered depending on the size of the room. You're will have to run it in high 24/7 and it's going to be on the louder side (like a strong fan). You might also have some luck finding something second hand and then just buying new filters for it. A lot of people buy air purifiers for the wrong reasons or don't understand what they're designed to do and then sell them. Oh! Depending on where you are, there might be a clean air organization who can lend you a purifier for your stay. [Clean Air Club](https://linktr.ee/cleanairclub) has a map (under resources "clean air orgs around the world"). There appear to be a few in Canada.

The AirFanta 3Pro uses E11 filters (95% interception efficiency at the MPPS), whereas HEPA is 99.95% or 99.97% interception efficiency at the MPPS, depending on the standard used (US or international). Previously E11 was called H11 and *was* considered a "HEPA filter," but that has since been changed. The inventor chose this filter because it maximizes the overall CADR, so switching to a HEPA filter would actually make the filtration worse. https://x.com/Engineer_Wong/status/1899144721710408038 --- EDIT: Yikes, big pile of misinformation linked by /u/Justifiers below. And a nice downvote too for my troubles, probably thinking (wrongly) that I downvoted them. To save people watching a rambling conspiracy video (skip to 6:20 on the second video if you want), the YouTuber's objection to CADR is the data only goes down to 0.5 microns and not smaller (untrue, PM0.5 by definition measures *all particles smaller than* 0.5 microns, and also misinformed because at that size electret filters get *better* interception efficiency as the particles get smaller) and one RTINGS.com video which appears to show CR boxes performing worse than HEPA filters with lower CADR (contradictory, because elsewhere in the videos he extensively blasts YouTuber tests as unreliable and amateurish). Save your time and brain cells. Tl;dr yes **CADR is still what really matters** and not HEPA.

How big is the space? The best bang for your buck is the AirFanta 3 Pro. It's not the most aesthetic machine but it purifies around 500 square feet with about 4-5 air changes an hour. If you think your cat would jump or scratch at it, it may be worth getting the Winix 5500-2. It purifies a smaller area- 300 square feet or so.

The PureZone mini has such a tiny CADR (10 cfm for dust at the highest speed, which is ridiculously noisy for how small this thing is!) that it serves as a false sense of security more than anything, especially if you're going to use it anywhere other than a small car. I'd recommend the Clean Air Kits Exhalaron (92 cfm for the 2-fan one and 128 cfm for the 3-fan one) or the AirFanta 3Pro (430 cfm at the highest setting, which is very noisy) if you have some extra space to spare (it's not as small as the Exhalaron but it is highly portable)

If you're able to have some kind of surface to place it facing you when you have appointments then I'd suggest the AirFanta 4Lite which is a portable laminar air flow (not big enough to clean the room, but able to send a straight stream of purified air toward your face if there aren't strong air currents around). It's more meant for if you have to eat in an unsafe space. I've used mine for meetings in cafes. It's very sleek and white and fancy looking. Has inbuilt battery (rechargeable) that lasts a few hours; can also be used with power banks. I've carried mine in knapsacks but it does take up some space. Also would suggest on top of this the AirFanta 3Pro which is strong enough to clean a room (packs more punch than other purifiers of its size but can be a little more noisy and doesn't look as sleek for sure as its like a CR box). Mine just stays in my living room. It's portable (packs flat for carrying, pretty light) but I wouldn't to dismantle and set it up again more than once or twice a day; it's a little fiddly. You didn't ask about masks but just to mention that the Zimi Air is super breathable with no metal pieces. I use the earloop for large conferences and so far it's kept me safe.

For affordability and high airflow (which is what you need for dust), it's hard to beat the AirFanta 3Pro. https://www.amazon.nl/AirFanta-3Pro-luchtreiniger-supergroot-opvouwbaar/dp/B0CJTYWQBT The IKEA units are cheap, but they don't have high airflow (ie CADR). So the cleaning power will be low because the pollutants "leak in" too fast. -- |Filter|Cost|Airflow|Airflow per Euro|Noise| :--|:--|:--|:--|:--| |IKEA FÖRNUFTIG|€59,95+€11,98/yr|120 m³/h|2,002 m³/h/€|60 dBA| |IKEA UPPÅTVIND|€29,99+€7,98/yr|95 m³/h|3,168 m³/h/€|55 dBA| |AirFanta 3Pro|€159,99+€67,99/yr |730 m³/h|**4,563 m³/h/€** (best)|50,2 dBA| -- But again it's not really about the value for money. It's more that you *need* such high airflow to make a dent in dust levels, especially since in real life people run air purifiers on medium due to noise.

that is true. I don't know how well they compare against the 5500-2, and one of selling points of the 5500-2 is that the carbon filter is separate (and apparently washable?) where as on the airfanta its bound to the filtration medium. But also it would raise the cost well over 150, where as just the airfanta 3pro itself is under 160 with the standard filter set.

Unfortunately that's a low budget for the space's size. You are correct about CADRs; keep in mind those are minimum recommendations. If smoke particles/ash/soot levels are especially heavy, 800 CFM CADRs may not be enough. Usually the best value HEPA purifier is the **Winix C909** at [Costco Canada for $289.99](https://www.costco.ca/winix-c909-4-stage-air-purifier-with-wifi-and-plasmawave-technology.product.4000257649.html). Smoke CADR is 323 CFM. If you need to maintain a strict budget, you could consider the **AirFanta 3Pro**, inspired by a Corsi-Rosenthal box design. It uses proprietary Efficient Particle Air (EPA) E11 filters. [E11 is two filter classes below HEPA H13](https://www.airum.com/frontend/immagini/files/EN%201822-1.PDF). This means E11 is less efficient on a single pass, but allows for greater air flow and CADRs. The top speed's composite CADR is 413 CFM for the CARB Edition. [Price for one unit is $229 Canadian](https://air-fanta.com/products/airfanta-3pro).\* You would need two units running at top speed to meet the minimum CADR. \*I added the 3Pro to my cart and in checkout, selected Canada as the shipping destination to see the adjusted product price. AirFanta is not a big player like Winix, Coway, or Levoit. But their filters did sell out during the southern California wildfires back in January. I assume they're in good standing business-wise.

Honestly you're probably better off with a AirFanta 3Pro. Mine get a ton of cat hair on them. Granted one is in my hallway and my cats pass through there a decent amount. The one in my bedroom also sees a decent amount. I vacuum them both about every two weeks. I've gone longer but like to clean it the same as the pre-filter on another device. At fan speed 2 the 150's performance falls to CADR = 78 CFM, so HouseFresh doesn't recommend it for room sizes larger than 117 square feet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJWJX-FMxeo I'm not sure why anyone would recommend the IKEA Vindstryka because it's just an air quality monitor, not an air purifier. I wouldn't recommend the IKEA Starkvind either, because its noise and performance is similar to what you already have. Returning the Coway and getting an Airfanta 3pro might be a good option. I'm not sure about Auto mode on your Coway, but I would expect that ramping up when it detects particles and then ramping down when the air is cleaner so it's quiet most of the time is exactly what you would want? Take care.

Seconding air cleaners that use PC fans. The [AirFanta 3Pro](https://a.co/d/8LTLqZy) is great, but I admit a bit higher than the price point you mentioned. It moves and cleans the air quite efficiently even on the quieter speeds. I'd recommend buying from AirFanta/Adam Wong and avoiding the copycats. Clean Air Kits also has a [4-fan Brisk Box](https://www.cleanairkits.com/products/brisk-box) that does its job very quietly and consistently. I overlook the fact that it's more utilitarian than elegant, but I understand why that be a "no" for others. It has a small footprint too. One downside is that it's $104 for the kit, and the filters are an additional purchase which might not work for your budget. Plus side (at least for me) is that these filters are easy to get preordered to my local home improvement store.

Not a great buy. Incredibly overhyped. The CADR for the speed most people are likely to run it on is comparatively low. You're better off getting a Winix 5500-2/5510 or an AirFanta 3Pro if you don't care about aesthetics. AirFanta can clean a larger space/ has a higher CADR and is a better bang for your buck.

Levoit Core 600s if odors aren't a huge consideration. AirFanta 3Pro isn't the most aesthetic device but it covers a large area (650 sq ft) for a very reasonable price. Assuming 2,8 m height, to achieve 6 ACH (Air Changes per Hour) you should have a total of 1.000 m³/h. So if you got two of the AirFanta 3Pro units I [recommended downthread](/r/AirPurifiers/comments/1kn1skq/dust_allergy_and_affordable_air_purifiers_whats/msrou4m/) and ran them at a medium setting it should make a noticeable difference in dust. The IKEA units are simply way too small for the space. To start off, I would just try one unit in the bedroom.

The size of the fan and the filters matter. This small device isn't going to effectively filter the air in a 1,000+ sq ft space as it's being advertised. As someone still taking COVID precautions, I'm not depending on this device as a mitigation layer. Even if I had bad allergies, it's not going to effectively clean the air compared to a Winix 5510 or AirFanta 3Pro

The levoit needs to be on mode 3 to be somewhat effective and it's really noisy at that point. The airfanta pro I have at 3 (out of 6) and is way less noisy and according to the stats more effective but replacement filters are more costly. I have no idea why it would be called a scam. Adam Wong, the engineer regularly posts on X and there have been many positive reviews. I have both the AirFanta 3pro which has excellent CADR. At full blast it might be a bit noisier but I lent mine to a friend visiting and staying at a hotel and they liked the white noise and subsequently bought one. I have both the regular and the carbon filters (they can't be bought like a furnace type Corsi-Rosenthal). The Airfanta 4 lite is the personal laminal air purifier but it purifies just at your face and is not considered a room cleaner so you won't find a CADR for it. Some airlines allow them and some don't. Personally if I was traveling I'd bring an AirFanta 3pro as it's collapsible and has a better CADR than the Levoit.

AirFanta 3Pro is a good unit with a high CADR, tho not the quietest. If you can do a Nukit Tempest, that would be a very quiet unit with a great CADR.

I'm a big fan of AirFanta 3Pro. It's easy to put together, is very effective, lightweight, and you can collapse it down and pack it away if you save the box.
