Just get an air purifier with only the basics, no ionisation as that can contribute to ozone and make air quality worse. I actually made a mini CR boxes for myself and took it back with me to TW visiting family. It's amazing how dirty the filter gets only after 2 weeks in Taiwan. After 1 month it's as dirty as 6 months where I normally live. If you can source filters and pc fans, a dc adapter, and have DIY skills, you can definitely make your own most bang for buck in terms of CADR and power. I bought an AirFanta 3 pro for the house, but I don't know where to buy it from in Taiwan. That's only because the local options available here suck. There are heaps of diff brands and options in TW. Housefresh (on YouTube) has great reviews you could look at. Good luck! I didn't realise how much a difference clean air is until I started using purifiers.

Recently got the Airfanta 3 Pro. Easily disassembled for travel, has a high filtration rate and runs pretty quiet. Was within your budget too. I'd check it out. The engineer that made it posts on X and Reddit all the time so if you're ever researching it you'll see why he designed it the way he did.

So for portability, the AirFanta 3Pro would be your best bet. Running it on high sounds like you're torturing a computer, but its your best overall option on portability and efficiency. For the house, if you're only looking to filter out covid, its kind of hard because it takes X number of air changes (CADR) to effectively filter out the air, and that takes time relative to how fast and efficient your purifier is. You can't just plop a unit down and run it for 5 minutes then poof, the covid is gone. Also, I'd suggest running them in the home constantly, just to filter out allergens like dust and mold and whatnot. That way they're constantly on the hunt to filter the covid out and you can just move one over to wherever the "problem" is. If you have people at the house mask, especially strangers, it would eliminate a lot of these potential issues.

The air Fanta can break down easily and you shouldn't have an issue taking onto a plane with carry on, I'm not sure if you'd be able to bring a commercial plastic levoit the same way but checked bag would be fine then. Some people here months ago were saying the air Fanta is a scam and is only shilled for here but it felt like actual reviews from real people when I was discovering it and from my personal experience using it I've found it nice and portable especially since it can run on a USB c power bank and adapter for lower voltage.

AirFanta 3Pro with carbon filters? I'm not sure how big the litter box area is since this is a device that takes up a bit more floor space than usual. The AirFanta does have a high clean air delivery rate, especially for the price. You could run it at the lower fan speeds and still achieve good air cleaning, depending on how big a space you need it for. Have you tried different litters? I've found Arm and Hammer to be good for odors. Do they sell that brand in Canada?

I don't know how much it is in Canadian dollars, but the AirFanta 3 is a smaller version of a CR Box that doesn't require tape. It's about $150 usd. You can break it down flat so it's easy to travel with. It's also pretty quiet compared to regular commercial units because it uses PC fans. By far the biggest advantage is two-fold: one, it's extremely powerful (way more powerful than other units at its price point), so it will def give you enough coverage for a hospital room and two, it's portable and unobtrusive. Some people have tried to take air purifiers into hospitals and staff has tried to stop them. I know it sounds ridiculous, but doctors and nurses are having strange psychological reactions to anything that reminds them of Covid or the pandemic. I think there's an advantage to something collapsible that fits in a bag and takes up a small footprint. Whatever purifier you end up going with, def don't ask for permission to use it. Just bring it and plug it in. If that is out of your budget, probably recommend the Levoit vital 100, but it might end up being underpowered depending on the size of the room. You're will have to run it in high 24/7 and it's going to be on the louder side (like a strong fan). You might also have some luck finding something second hand and then just buying new filters for it. A lot of people buy air purifiers for the wrong reasons or don't understand what they're designed to do and then sell them. Oh! Depending on where you are, there might be a clean air organization who can lend you a purifier for your stay. The AirFanta 3Pro uses E11 filters (95% interception efficiency at the MPPS), whereas HEPA is 99.95% or 99.97% interception efficiency at the MPPS, depending on the standard used (US or international). Previously E11 was called H11 and *was* considered a "HEPA filter," but that has since been changed. Save your time and brain cells. Tl;dr yes **CADR is still what really matters** and not HEPA.

Loving the Airfanta 3 Pro so far.

How big is the space? The best bang for your buck is the AirFanta 3 Pro. It's not the most aesthetic machine but it purifies around 500 square feet with about 4-5 air changes an hour. If you think your cat would jump or scratch at it, it may be worth getting the Winix 5500-2. It purifies a smaller area- 300 square feet or so.

The PureZone mini has such a tiny CADR (10 cfm for dust at the highest speed, which is ridiculously noisy for how small this thing is!) that it serves as a false sense of security more than anything, especially if you're going to use it anywhere other than a small car. I'd recommend the Clean Air Kits Exhalaron (92 cfm for the 2-fan one and 128 cfm for the 3-fan one) or the AirFanta 3Pro (430 cfm at the highest setting, which is very noisy) if you have some extra space to spare (it's not as small as the Exhalaron but it is highly portable)

People hate when you suggest airfanta 3pro here for some reason but it's literally a portable corsi rosenthal box that specs higher than all the other ones contained in hard plastic at 2-3x the price.

AirFanta 3Pro for sure. Highest CADR per dollar of all the PC fan air purifiers, and it's not even close. The non PC fan purifiers use way more electricity, too.

If you're able to have some kind of surface to place it facing you when you have appointments then I'd suggest the AirFanta 4Lite which is a portable laminar air flow (not big enough to clean the room, but able to send a straight stream of purified air toward your face if there aren't strong air currents around). It's more meant for if you have to eat in an unsafe space. I've used mine for meetings in cafes. It's very sleek and white and fancy looking. Has inbuilt battery (rechargeable) that lasts a few hours; can also be used with power banks. I've carried mine in knapsacks but it does take up some space. Also would suggest on top of this the AirFanta 3Pro which is strong enough to clean a room (packs more punch than other purifiers of its size but can be a little more noisy and doesn't look as sleek for sure as its like a CR box). Mine just stays in my living room. It's portable (packs flat for carrying, pretty light) but I wouldn't to dismantle and set it up again more than once or twice a day; it's a little fiddly. You didn't ask about masks but just to mention that the Zimi Air is super breathable with no metal pieces. I use the earloop for large conferences and so far it's kept me safe.

that is true. I don't know how well they compare against the 5500-2, and one of selling points of the 5500-2 is that the carbon filter is separate (and apparently washable?) where as on the airfanta its bound to the filtration medium. But also it would raise the cost well over 150, where as just the airfanta 3pro itself is under 160 with the standard filter set.

Obligatory recommendation for the AirFanta 3Pro. One of the best CADR-per-dollar and CADR-per-decibel options out there, and it doesn't have an ionizer which is bad for birds.

Honestly you're probably better off with a AirFanta 3Pro. Mine get a ton of cat hair on them. Granted one is in my hallway and my cats pass through there a decent amount. The one in my bedroom also sees a decent amount. I vacuum them both about every two weeks. I've gone longer but like to clean it the same as the pre-filter on another device. the highest dollar per CADR I think is the Airfanta 3pro, but its a bit more finicky than a plug and play, and I don't know if it does smell very well. Between the two you have there, I'd go with the Winix.

If aesthetics and noise levels are important to you, Coway ProX for the main living space (assuming it's large-ish) and any Coway "medium spaces" unit (use their website to filter) for the Bedroom. Total ~$1k. If aesthetics and noise levels are not important, two AirFanta 3Pro, run on Medium-High, about $400. If aesthetics are not important but noise is, four AirFanta 3Pro, run on Low or Medium-Low, about $800. If your budget is a little flexible and you want the highest CADR with the smallest footprint and lowest noise, a SMART AIR BLAST - MKII for the main living space (about $1,100) and any Coway "medium spaces" unit. Total, about $1,500.

Yeah, get the AirFanta 3Pro with the carbon filter. It has a higher CADR and more mainstream brands would charge 2-3x for that CADR. Though it would suck to have to mask at home, it might be worth getting some KN95s to wear at home. A mask is just an air filter for your face.

Multiple units in one home isn't overkill. How big is your room, the one you spend the most time in? If you're not super concerned about aesthetics and smart features, the AirFanta 3Pro has a high clean air delivery rate for the price. You could buy a number of those and put them throughout the house.

yeah I tried putting together a parts list a while ago to make one in the UK and it was both cheaper and easier to just get an airfanta 3pro, which is basically the same concept albeit with proprietary size filters. even the filters were still cheaper than buying locally (£42 instead of ~£80) but maybe that's different now that IKEA sells filters

I have the Winix 5500-2 and 2 AirFanta 3Pros. I have a Levoit Core 200s I run just for the heck of it. I wouldn't recommend the Starkvind. It has a pretty low CADR for the price. It's hard to recommend just one device without knowing the room dimensions and motivations (odor, allergies, cigarettes, weed, COVID, etc) but I tend to recommend the Winix 5500-2/5510, some Levoits, AirFanta, Clean Air Kits, and Smart Air. For under $200? AirFanta 3Pro. I think you'd be better off getting two purifiers that can clean about 300-400 square feet on low but given your budget, one purifier that can clean the air in 450sq feet and under $200 is the AirFanta 3Pro

I wouldn't recommend the IKEA Starkvind either, because its noise and performance is similar to what you already have. Returning the Coway and getting an Airfanta 3pro might be a good option. I'm not sure about Auto mode on your Coway, but I would expect that ramping up when it detects particles and then ramping down when the air is cleaner so it's quiet most of the time is exactly what you would want? Luggable with high quality Filtrete filters are going to give you great filtration. But, AirFanta 3 uses PC fans with HEPA filters.
