Instant Pot - Vortex Plus 13L Air Fryer Oven

I have the Instant Vortex Plus. It's the most used item in my kitchen, bar none.

Kettle: Xiaomi We've had ours for 2 years, used everyday. No issues. Airfryer: Instantpot Vortex Used regularly for months now, works great. I like the oven style and tray vs basket style because easier to clean. I just pop the trays in a dishwasher along with the dishes. It also automatically preheats and dings to remind you the preheating is done.

Mine is the Instant Vortex. Slightly smaller than a standard microwave. Has two shelves. I use it for so much. Its great for chicken thighs, sausages, raw vegetables, making toast. And of course also from freezer to plate items. It heats up leftovers 10x better than a microwave. Pizza and fries especially.

Just bought this to replace my Instant Vortex. I was looking for a ceramic basket fryer and this looked to be the best one I found, especially for the price. I haven't used it enough yet to really evaluate, but so far it seems great, and also looks good on my countertop. It's very compact for it's capacity. I few things I miss from my Vortex is the shake/flip alert, which is such an easy thing to include that I don't know why all fryers don't have this. The other thing I miss from my vortex is the knob, which makes it so much faster to dial in the temp/time. I'm still debating whether I miss the window or not. It's sometimes useful, but not sure if it's really a crucial feature. But otherwise it's a great air fryer.

Ours just died after using it almost every day for two years, which is why I'm in this thread. We liked it quite a bit, but agree with Wirecutter's criticism that the Instant Vortex's user interface is crap - it's just a cheap touchscreen with poor sensitivity. I'm looking at other models now - the Instant Vortex was a lovely gift but I don't think I want to buy another.

I bought one back in July and since I unpacked it I haven't used my oven once. There may be better ones but it's worked well for me. I like the dial to change time and temp.

Thanks for the reply. I have an Instant Pot Vortex Plus, which is great, but I often have to stage food and keep stuff warm, so want to try a dual. Might give the Paderno a try, it has good reviews and it's $150, wife likes blue.

We have an instant vortex and it gets used practically daily. Roasts potatoes, reheats pizza perfectly, makes things crispy, etc. I baked a tiny cake in it and roasted a whole chicken, too. My household is me and my partner only so it's just a small countertop oven that replaced the convection oven when it died so we don't have to turn on the whole oven. I wish it were quieter but it's pretty perfect and definitely will be replaced if something happens.

Unfortunately, there are many recent buyers who have had terrible issues with this exact air fryer. Apparently, InstantPot was purchased by a private equity firm, so their current models are not living up to their past reputation. We actually bought that air fryer a few years ago due to an America's Test Kitchen recommendation, and it's been great. If (when) it ever dies, we won't be replacing it with another InstantPot.

The instant pot vortex one is quite on sale right now and works well. I would also get a small microwave if you do lots of little things that require that.

The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer is a great choice. If you want other options, Ninja and Cosori are solid picks, with Philips being top-tier for crispiness. Instant Vortex Plus is user-friendly.

I hate my Xiaomi the Teflon is utter trash which makes cleaning it a chore. Owned a Cosori before it and now bought a Insta Vortex Plus. They use good Teflon unlike the Xiaomi

I purchased the same Vortex Plus with front window from a thrift store with the "Close Basket" error. The only solution for me was to open the unit and replace the micro switch. When you close the door, a cone shaped extension, visible on the top front center housing, gets pushed up to the micro switch. If the micro switch is faulty, you'll always get the "Close Basket" error. This used unit has been working for close to 2 years.

I know Instant Pot people troll and monitor this subreddit, so I expect to get botted to hell and back as well as attacked for this. That being said, I ordered the Instant Pot Vortex with Window due to the America's Test Kitchen recommendation and people here saying it is good due to that review. I had it for 2 years almost. In that time, the light for the window died, and the LED display also died. Luckily, Amazon let me get my money back. That being said, these defects weren't showstoppers, and it didn't fully die ever. Great right? Well, after the second death I got my money back and got a Ninja Foodi FlexDrawer. I have to say, having now used it for 1 month, using the Instant Pot was like living in the dark ages. Food comes out crispier faster. Max Crisp 240 C is a game changer. My wings went from mid and barely decent to as good as oil fried. I am truly amazed at how much better it is and wanna spread the gospel to avoid the Instant Pot one. To prove I am not a bot or have an agenda benefitting either company, I will say the Instant Pot itself is hands down the best electric pressure cooker system in existence, and I'd fully recommend you buy that over any other one. Also on the flipside, I'd say Ninja devices aren't always amazing because I had their blender / food processor combo and that thing died from normal use after 1.5 years. If you have trouble deciding on your Air Fryer go for any of the Max Crisp Ninja ones. It's a game changer truly. Will post pictures of my wings next time I make them.

Instant Pot Vortex Plus! I just bought the version with a window and it's pretty fantastic. Very noticeable upgrade over the one I had previously (Bella) which was actually great, but I couldn't find replacement parts for it.

I have the same one and the same issue. I managed to figure out the trick to use it. After you put the basket back in keep your hand on the handle then put your thumb on the top of the air fryer just below the button/knob and press down with it while pulling the basket handle up. Works for me every time. Still not great it happens but at least it becomes usable.

I have a smaller one similar to the Instant Vortex Plus. I love it and have had it for around 5 years(?). Any ways, I've never tried the basket air fryers and couldn't tell anything about them. Now, I'm currently single, but it will work for two people. Any more than that and not so much. If it's munchies you're making, it'll work. Large meals for 4 or more would be an issue.

The Ninja Foodi and Cosori Pro are two of the best air fryers for even cooking, large capacity, and versatility. Instant Vortex Plus is another great choice with multiple functions like roasting and dehydrating. If you want something high-end, Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer is excellent.

The Instant Pot Vortex Plus has a pleasant low whoosh. If it didn't heat up and beep I'd darn near use it as a white noise machine to go to sleep.

You can test it by cooking something, then carefully touching the side.

I absolutely love mine. I have the instant vortex. The fry basket rotisserie attachment alone is worth it to me. However. Look at multiple UNBIASED reviews. They are not all created equal. But if you don't want to do that type of research. You want one that is an air fryer first that also has other settings and NOT a convection oven that also has an air fryer setting. They are not the same.

How long does it take for the plastic smell to go away? I just got one and can't handle the smell 😩

I did some research and a few people who's opinion I trust seem to prefer the basket type. I'm now on my 3rd one. We are a family of 3 and the 6 quart size fits us best. Somebody said that if you buy one to big, it still works. If you buy one to small, you can't make it bigger. I had a bad experience with zero support from my last one. It was a brand called Bella. I would avoid them like the plague Just got an Instant brand Vortex Plus (same folks who made my Instant Pot) and I love it. It has better circulation than either of my other two. It is fun to use, and beautifully engineered. I got it on Amazon for $79, I think the regular price was $99

I have the Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Oven 13 L £119 normal price, £95 at Argos and Amazon, but Costco UK had it for £84. It has two shelves and a drip tray, but I want to buy a 3rd shelf. It has the grooves for it. I don't like having to turn food over though. It has rotisserie function, comes with skewers, and a wire mesh basket cylinder, which has not been used yet.

We had an Instant Brand Vortex that the display started failing 1 year in. I replaced it with a Gourmia and its performed perfectly for 13 months. It cost less than 1/2 what the vortex did.

Sorry for your expensive. I've had 4 different types and brands of air fryer. My instant vortex is my favorite by a large margin, and been going strong for over 2 years.

We have an Instant Vortex. It's good. Even with a convection oven it's handy. With no oven I'd definitely get one.

Right? It's so bad and the plastic smell gets into the food. Granted I've only had it for a day but I'm going to return mine if it doesn't go away. I don't know any alternatives that don't do that though! I was considering the Ninja AF101 but there were reviews about it smoking and catching on fire so now I'm paranoid about even getting a new one 🥲
