Good luck on your ski trip with your Hero3! I still have my Hero2 and had to purchase new (aftermarket) batteries on Amazon last year as the original ones wouldn’t charge anymore. Glad I never got rid of it. Last year I purchased a Hero13 Black for motovlogging on my motorcycle. Now I have 2 GoPros to film forward and what’s behind me. I just wish GoPro would make a Windows compatible editor like they had in the old days.

I still have a soft spot for the HERO 2. Couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. There was something special about it.

I have gone 4 generations between upgrades so far and it has always been a major improvement. 2-6-10-14 is my current plan unless someone convinces me I need to go 10-13

They forgot half of them😥 At the time I really liked the Hero 2. I have so many great memories and clips.

GoPro is really good for accessories historically but that's kind of fallen off. Now DJI I find has the best accessories availability. Insta360 Is my overall favorite brand. There 360 cameras are really cool. My primary use case has been the GO 3S Which is their smallest camera because I have been using them to attach them to animals and that's been really cool. But it also means I've got quite a bit of experience dealing with the videos and the output even I'm not the one wearing the camera. Their system is definitely the best overall for just ease of dealing with it. If you don't need anything super high-end that camera is also just fantastic as kind of a attach it and forget it situation like if you're on vacation walking around and you never know what you might want to record. Kind of like meta glasses it's really good for a camera that you just forget you're wearing which is a huge reason I think that's probably the best camera for most people. There is an old saying that the best camera is the one that you have on you, that's kind of why it's so good because you're more likely to actually bring it and use it for small things. I know you're asking about cameras but for example I also have the Rode wireless micro microphones which is the same concept. If it's small and stays out of your way you're more likely to use it. When it comes to small cameras insta360 is absolutely dominant no one has anything even equivalent DJI has the best system if you're wanting to do slowmo because it can do 4K120. DJI is also more rugged in their design. Their action 6 camera is what I would recommend if you're doing diving or any sort of really intense sport where it's going to get banged around a lot. If you're just a generic tourist walking around, especially if you ever want to attach a camera to your cat or dog insta is the way to go. Also the way to go if you're ever thinking about how you wish you had your camera already set up at a moment but didn't for some reason like it's too bulky or the battery life, or it just wouldn't have been easy to mount. That's where it really excels. The GO 3S has a ton of accessories for mounting it on weird locations. RC cars, walls, pet toys, etc.

I can't help specifically with the GoPro Hero 11 Black but I have a couple 12's along with a couple Osmo Action 5's and a Pocket 3, and I think they all have good features that would work for your boyfriend. Assuming you are asking about the GoPro because that brand name gets used a lot in a generic way to refer to action cameras, any of the three would serve him well, but if he is focused on vlogging you might find the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the best choice. It's ready to go right out of the box (especially if you get the Creator Combo package) so he'd need very few accessories. If you opt for a used GoPro 11, just be mindful of what you are buying because action cams often take a beating in use, and you want to make certain you are not buying a worn out piece of gear. Good luck and I hope your boyfriend thoroughly enjoys whatever model you end up buying for him.

Are you using it for safety purposes or to record footage? Also do you have a bag to spend on a camera lol. I use a 2nd gen go pro mounted to my helmet. A used one is $20 and you'll need an extra battery if you're using it for longer than 2 hours. I think berm peak on YouTube does a camera review video [camera](https://youtu.be/xguUEFngK2E?si=exeZJgKNKHmStjBQ)

I've had a GoPro Hero 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10, as well as the Max. I've go over 2,000 skydives with GoPros on my helmet, including world records and jumps into the Blue Hole in Belize. I've taken them to every continent (including Antarctica) for running and scuba diving and overall travel. So I use GoPros a lot, and I use them in environments that are pretty tough on them. One thing that's been annoying is the heavy push to GoPro subscription. Their cloud storage is just awful. The money is better spent on something like Dropbox or Box. Their software has been pretty terrible too. Hardware wise, they've been hit or miss. Sometimes it's software, sometimes it's hardware. They can corrupt video files, do a weird "gets hot after charging and locks up so that you have to pull the batteries", they can stop mid recording. All of that with the proper recommended cards. Some have just been lemons, probably a bad solder or heatsink contact. Sometimes it's fixed in a firmware upgrade. They're notorious in the skydiving community. "Did you get it?" "No, it stopped recording 5 seconds in." "It froze up". That kind of thing. Not all the time, not even frequent, but enough that it's annoying. And each model seems to have their own little quirks. My Hero 7 and 10 has been solid for the most part. My 9.. not as much. My Max is a piece of shit. My next 360 camera will absolutely not be a Max, and probably won't be whatever they come out with next. My next action camera probably won't be a GoPro.

It's simple to me. GoPro Hero cameras are a huge PITA to use. They're horribly unreliable and nowadays DJI/Insta look just as good. It's been like this since at least Hero 10. They have done nothing to fix the Hero line and continue to push out a new model every year. It's corporate greed and it's killing the company. I've spent a lot of money on GoPro gear only to be burned by them over and over again. I go out of my way to recommend against GoPro any time some asks. I will give credit where it's due though. The MAX 360 has been a great camera for me. I don't have any of the issues that are so abundant on Hero cameras. It's the only GoPro product I've had a good experience with but I still can't recommend it because of the culture at GoPro. I know if anything comes up that requires them to lift a finger to fix, it will remain broken forever while they work on the next yearly model release.
