I would avoid GoPro Hero 10 or beyond. Those are the only Hero cameras I have experience with and they're a huge PITA especially for motorcycling. It either doesn't turn on, doesn't record, or records with no audio ALL THE TIME. If you happen to notice it's not turning on, then you get to pull over, take your helmet off, unmount the camera, and fiddle with it until you figure out what's not working. Usually requiring you to remove and reinsert the battery. It's the most frustrating thing ever on a bike and I'd argue dangerous since you're preoccupied with the camera instead of your ride. I tried working with a Hero 10 and 11 for over 2 years before I swore them off forever. I recently switched to Insta360 and couldn't be happier. The Insta has literally not one time malfunctioned or not recorded when I pressed the button. I also have an old DJI Osmo Action that never had reliability issues. I would say any Osmo Action gen or the previous gen Insta360 (R One or something like that I cant' remember the name) would do the job well. If part of its job is dashcam you might also consider a 360 camera. You'll have way butter luck catching incidents with it than a regular action cam. I also have a GoPro 360 MAX camera. Unlike the Hero cameras, it's been great. It's still glitchy at times but nowhere near the regularity of the Hero cameras. It's kind long in the tooth now too so you may be able to find them on a good deal somewhere.

Casual user here too. - OA5P - More affordable - OA6 - More expensive, a "little bit" better in low light but still inferior to the Pocket 3 Based on what I've watched so far, the quality difference is honestly negligible aside from a little low light boost. Personally, I always have a cold shoe light attached to my OA5P since it's pretty underexposed in certain scenes, like walking around a dimly lit park at night. I like shooting in low light, so the OA6 kind of piques my interest a bit. I imagine I'll still have the cold shoe light on for the OA6 though. I bought the OA5P a month ago and didn't wait for the OA6 since I had some vacation trips I wanted to capture. If I wanted to upgrade, I can sell my OA5P later and just top up a little for the OA6 once it's available here. TL;DR: OA6 if you're willing to pay more for a low light boost

If you are a videographer you of course know that you can totally get away with using actioncams for BTS. Done that a lot of times for online and TV productions, and is is pretty common to do that. Not of all of us are Ridley Scott. Personally I reall like the nano for its form factor. you can mount it pretty much anywhere and is is quite unobstrusive. Which is a big plus for behind the scene footage. You have to keep in mind that the runtime of the nano owthout the vision dojc is significantly shorter and it does have to get recharged on the dock pretty much every hour or so if you dont want to risk it shutting down in wrong moment. Also it does get pretty warm over time if you set it to record in the max bitrate. Real life performances of the nano: 1.5 hours, body mounted, indoors, low light mode (blacklighted room), no problems at all 1 hour, 240fps / 1080p, body mounted outdoors, no problem In terms of quality I can only compare it to my action 5 pro, and they are both on par under all conditions. And that is still pretty much comparable with the Action 6. The 6 has of course a better performance in low light which might be a key factor in BTS applications. In conclusion the nano is fine if you use it in a way and for a purpose that it is fit for. Like POV mount, fire and forget. For point and shoot I'd opt for the Action 5/6.

I mean you can't really compare the two. The Sony will absolutley beat any action cam. However, the new DJI Action cam do have a bigger sensor vs the newest GoPro. Both of which are micro sized vs the APS-C sensor in the Sony. Action cams work better when you have video lights vs relying on natural lighting. They work great for caves when you can really lighten the whole place up.

Man, thats not what one wants to hear but I understand it. I have a side by side comparison coming out on Friday between the Ace Pro 2 and the Action 6. I've been looking over the footage captured from both of them (side by side on my camera tray) and you can clearly see that the action 6 is way way brighter. I guess that a lot of this is personal preference when you arent a professional but honestly, I cant see how DJI puts out a camera that isn't considerably better than 2 year old tech from Insta. Overall, I'm not unhappy with it though. I really wanted to be blown away but that didnt happen. I know the challenges and issues with designing it but I wish that a company would come out with an "action cam style" camera with a larger sensor even if it meant that it got a little bit bigger.

They are for different uses, but a static shot from the 6 should be similar. We will know soon enough, I have bought one but have to wait. I do not think it replaces the pocket, but it does some jobs better, like POV, water and sports of course. The 5 is fine in good light, the 6 should perform similar in low light to pocket 3

For simplicity, if you only need to record for a couple hours. I tend to recommend something like a GoPro Hero / DJI Osmo Action / Insta360 Ace Pro. If you need to go over a couple hours consider adding a USB power bank. If you need to go for multiple days, there are dedicated construction Timelapse cameras like Brinno. Small, weather proof, can take it a little rough, and they tend to have lots of different mounting attachment options. There are some decent spring-clamp options.

I'm a gear head, I own a ton of camera equipment. You don't need the latest to document you trips. I'm still using an older GoPro hero 9 and it takes fantastic 4k 60FPS video. Look into the older generations. The processing power jumped between the 9 and 10th generation GoPro. Recommendation **If you can find a GoPro hero 10 that would be the best value.** The hero12 didn't have gps, so I'd avoid that generation if that feature is important to you. *Go pro alternatives:* I own a insta360 go3s. It's great for POV, ultra small. I clip it to my hat. Max resolution is 4k 30FPS. If you're going to do fast paced activities like racing you may find the framerate at the max resolution to be too slow. Insta360 X5 is a 360 camera. Theres a learning curve to the software. But provides the ability to reframe footage. Quality of the video will not be as good as a standard action camera. DJI osmo action, it's a solid choice as well. Bit rate is lower then a GoPro, but if you're not a professional you won't know the difference

Ace pro has more pixels, action 6 doesn't shoot square photos. They both shoot raw and have 155° FOV, macro, and ultra wide options. The tilt screen on the ace pro is invaluable, for me, and helps shoot from the waist without cropping if your framing was off. Each one has strengths but for photographs I think there's no contest - the ace pro 2

right, well.... they're almost all the same. 4 has better color, 5 has better lighting in dark environments and bluetooth microphone ability. 6 has open gate so you can crop horizontal or vertical and automatically adjusts aperture (according to a hands on video I saw just 10 minutes ago). But you can film horizontally or vertically anyway with the Action 4 by just turning the camera horizontal or vertical. Each one goes up in price with minor improvements. If you're going to use it mainly for surfing just get the 4 it's quite inexpensive and can take a beating. It just depends on how much you want to spend. Get the 6 and it does everything. If you only care about filming surfing then get the 4 and save your money for accessories. If you can afford the 6 then get the 6. no doubt it will do additional things but you're probably never going to use them. If you have absolutely no idea just get the latest and the greatest. On the other hand the price will probably be twice that of the 4. Black Friday sales are very soon don't forget.

I sold my Ace Pro 2 and bought an Action 6. Reasoning was partly due to the Osmo Audio, I already have DJI Mic Mini and not having to use a transmitter w/ cable is pretty cool. The Ace Pro 2 usb-c connector was kinda recessed and to use a Hollyland usb-c transmitter, I needed to get a USB-C extender. So basically I can lose that extender + transmitter. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in image quality.

Comparing to Pixel 8, the Action 6 is much better than it. Wider field of view in all stabilization modes and better low light and more control of exposure triangle. Comparing to Action 5 Pro, I never had the 5 but judging from YouTube videos, the quality is essentially the same. The F2 aperture is only usable in SuperNight mode with added smoothing and an extended ISO range up to 51200 from the normal limit of 12800, F2 is not available in Auto nor Manual. Otherwise the largest aperture is F2.6 or F2.8 depending on your settings, the Action 5 Pro has a fixed aperture of F2.8. I hope a firmware update unlocks F2 to all modes. In other words, Action 6 is just a Action 5 Pro with the ability to crop horizontal and vertical videos at the same time and F2 only in SuperNight mode EDIT: A new firmware on November 26 was released. This now actually goes to f2 when f2-f4 range is selected!

Worth looking for second hand DJI also - I got a DJI osmo action off ebay for £50 (with a voucher, theyre normally about £100) and it's been really good. Like all others, it suffers a bit at night, but is still usually good enough to pick out number plates. I have it secured to my helmet with a couple of 3M adhesive pads; it's nice to be able to look at things (eg drivers on their phones) and know it's being recorded vs the static angle of a handlebar mount. I originally bought a GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini - do not make this mistake, the battery isnt removable and it was dead on arrival!

you want to do POV shots and you also want to vlog. so get a Nano for POV and an Action 6 Pro for vlogging. yes it's true that the sensor of the Nano matches the current Action Pro 5. But the Action 6 Pro which will be released in less than a month is going to match the "Pocket 3's" 1 inch sensor and it will come with 2 screens. they are not going to cannibalize their flagship Action series by putting 2 screens on the Nano plus you are now significantly increasing the cost when the point is to compete against the insta360 GO Ultra for market share.

Ive had both. I'd lean slightly to the osmo. The big diffrence is down to gps imo. The osmo doesn't have it built in. You need the remote for it. The gopro does. Otherwise they're both fine. Overheating isn't an issue when driving.

Not sure if they can ship to America. The Diving Kit is sold out on the DJI Store Website already or they didn't get enough stock of the Underwater Case in time. Your phone is often the best, it's just a psychological barrier to take it out and film without doing other stuff on it. You could always go for a gopro, osmo action or insta360 x5, all the latest ones have great features. The 360 cam is especially nice if you want to hit record and go, and spend a little more time in the editing to make the shots. Gopro or osmo action are just simple quick video devices. But if you want to take your time filming stuff everywhere you might like the sony zv e10 mark ii.

I've been a GoPro user ever since. It's a great choice for action-packed activities-built like a tank and made for hardcore conditions. However, my main issue with the GoPro, especially the Hero 12, is the overheating. It tends to get very hot, particularly in warm climates. For these conditions, the Osmo is a great alternative for me.

We use GoPros at work for in car spiels, and we have found the latest ones annoyingly buggy. Sometimes (not often) shutting down randomly and sometimes not saving a video and throwing up an error. It also tends to overheat when mounted on the windshield since we live in a hot country (happens often). Image quality is great, to be fair, but we shifted to osmo actions because of the more reliable software, more reliable heat dissipation and longer battery life. Transfer by files is also easier on the DJI with a better iPhone app. Overall, go pro has really good video quality, but the few times it failed, they were mission critical shots, and we just can't afford to have that gap in our workflow.
